Hi all,

We're starting a new Wikimedia digest that will be a globally focused hub for important Wikimedia movement and Foundation initiatives. We aim to supplement existing community news outlets while also filling a void left by inactive outlets like the Portuguese Wikipedia's Correio da Wikipédia, for example.

The first article in this series is now ready for translation, and we appreciate help in getting it out to your communities (along with any suggestions you have to improve future posts). I'm looking to publish this late tomorrow in as many languages as possible.

Thank you all very much!

Request

Hi, dear Taketa. Look this page - [1]. New application - 22 october - 29 october. If it is possible to extend for one year. Thank you in advance.--6AND5 (talk) 15:26, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi 6AND5, looks good. I see sufficient support for temporary adminship, and considering the last was 3 months, this can be for 6 months. Next time can be for one year. To keep it official I will post a log at Steward requests/Permissions. All the best, Taketa (talk) 15:38, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
Thanks.--6AND5 (talk) 16:01, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Yejianfei@cdowiki

Hi, you gave adminship to this user with a link to SRP in the summary. However, I don't see any request for that user on the given revision of SRP. Did you maybe link to the wrong one? --MF-W 13:46, 16 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi MF-Warburg, there was a local vote for two admins. One of them found meta after two and half months and requested the community vote be applied on his own request. I checked the local page and found both votes good. Yejianfei also voted himself, confirming he accepted the vote. As such I decided to close both of the votes and grand the right. The link I posted is to the only request on meta. The link in that request links to the request on the local wiki. But you are right that it is in fact a wrong link. I will make sure it does not happen in the future and link directly to the local election instead. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 13:53, 16 December 2015 (UTC)

Bot status

Hi! Can you take a look at this request, please? --Ochilov (talk) 10:43, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi Ochilov, I have replied there. Since it is not an emergency we cannot act when there is a local bureaucrat, unless he is inactive. He might watch his talk page or email, so please ask him first. If he does not respond in the next week, we can add the bot flag. All the best, Taketa (talk) 11:08, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Can you also close this request of mine? Thanks) --Ochilov (talk) 11:34, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Might be better if a bureaucrat does this, you can ask MF-Warburg, he is pretty active. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 12:07, 17 December 2015 (UTC) PS: I see Syum90 has taken the initiative to close. That is fine too :).

@Taketa:, Thanks, I have been granted admin (sysop) rights on SdWiki, thanks for this I will now work more better way for SDWiki, Thanks again, Kindly let me know where and how can I find my admin rights on SdWiki,,--Jogi don (talk) 04:26, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
I have replied on your local talk page. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 07:47, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
@Taketa:, I still can't Find Admin button , yet I have been able now to perform task specific to Admin such as to delte pages, reverts Protect pages etc on Sindhi Wikipedia.--Jogi don (talk) 16:54, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
Go to a random page on sd.wikipedia.org. The button to delete is on the top of the page, left of the search bar and to the right of the little star, click on the button called "More". It gives you the option "Delete", "Move", "Protect". The delete button is the delete button, etc. To block a user, go to the user's userpage. Look on the left of the screen (note that left and right may be different on your project). Under "Tools" it says "Block user". Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 17:00, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
@Taketa: Hey dear , hope you are fine, its requested you kindly extend or grant me permanent rights of Adminship (SYSOP) on SDWIKI, So that I could continue my tasks on SDwiki. Thanks...--Jogi don (talk) 07:37, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

Hello

Can you take adminship her status at here? Thanks Krisplumutan (talk) 12:23, 25 December 2015 (UTC)

Hello Taketa, He not active ± 1 year. can you take adminship her status.

Thanks Krisplumutan (talk) 08:15, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Dear Krisplumutan, as far as I know map-bms.wikipedia does not have a local inactivity policy. I cannot remove this admin. Their admin activity will be reviewed during the yearly Admin activity review. At that review, admins are considered inactive if they have no edits or log actions for 2 years. If you want to remove the admin sooner, you will have to ask the local map-bms community to have a vote. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 08:19, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Dear Ochilov, I have responded there. Since this is the first request and there are no votes I gave temporary adminship for 3 months. Good luck keeping eo.wikiquote clean. If you want to prolong this coming March, you can post a new local request and a new request here. We can then evaluate and the second time we can grant for a longer period, third time longer again, etc. All the best, Taketa (talk) 08:05, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Immediate help on SDWiki

Immediate help required on SDWIKI, I searched possible Wikipedia IRC channel but no online admin or any help was there , I am Admin on Sindhi Wikipedia, I created a Category with English text name then I renamed/moved that category to a new name (alternative name of those English words in Sindhi) the Problem is that all the relevant articles , templates in which there is a English named category does not appear with Sindhi named category , SO I decided to Undo/revert it but reverts does not happens, can you or any one else can do this for me and tell me why my reverts/undo not works however I am Admin as well. Here is the Category on Sindhi Wikipedia Which I want reverts/undo (Moved its name) Moved name Undo plz.--Jogi don (talk) 14:45, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi Jogi don, I will have a look. All the best, Taketa (talk) 15:07, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
First off, do not worry. There is no emergency. This category is not part of the normal Wikipedia pages. It is a list that is automatically filled by the Mediawiki software. If I am correct it is this one sd:ذريعات وڪي:Duplicate-args-category. I think it is best to not touch this type of category unless you know what you are doing. Before you rename a category, check if you can find any articles that link to it. If you don't know how the articles are being added to the category, don't move the category. All the best, Taketa (talk) 15:15, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
@Taketa:, Thanks this Category is restored by you with its previous English name (sd:زمرو:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls) and now all pages in which this category is placed are shown in it. previously it showed all the pages in it when it was with its English name like its present name but when I renamed/moved it with its Sindhi name all pages were not appearing in it, but now all pages in that category are shown again after your deletion of its Sindhi name, Thanks , now I want to know how to change the name of such type of categories into their Sindhi names....--Jogi don (talk) 03:37, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
I don't think you should. But if you insist, you can go to translatewiki and ask there. Ask them to translate "Mediawiki:Duplicate-args-category" for the sd language. All the best, Taketa (talk) 07:46, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
@Taketa: ,I can also translate "Mediawiki:Duplicate-args-category" for the sd(Sindhi), but dear I am again struck-ed in same above condition which I resolved previously by you, I Created "(sd:زمرو:Lua-based templates)" all its respective pages, templates populated were automatically populated in it after I created it, then I did same as I asked the help for as mentioned above issue, I renamed/moved "(sd:زمرو:Lua-based templates)" into "(sd:زمرو:لُووا-تي مبني سانچا)", now all its previous pages, templates are disappeared in it, when I went in its History and tried to revert my own rename/moved name of it it didn't happened, Why I can't revert/Undo my own edits, moved, renamed categories, templates in SDWiki however iam a admin on Sdwiki, I here by request you again Kindly revert/undo "(sd:زمرو:لُووا-تي مبني سانچا) and restore it as (sd:زمرو:Lua-based templates) ([HERE ]) so that the pages and templates in its English name can again be shown in it. Thanks for inconvenience and asking for help again , If I could do this myself I wouldn't have put you into extra efforts for Sindhi Wikipedia, anyway kindly do it as you previously did actions on (sd:زمرو:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls) for SdWiki. expecting a positive and dignified role from you , thanks ........--Jogi don (talk) 12:09, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
@Taketa: , I did resolved it myself by renaming/moving category's Sindhi name "زمرو:لُووا-تي مبني سانچا" to its previous English name "زمرو:Lua-based templates" and now all its corrsponding templates and pages are shown in it, but I want to avoid such trouble in future.....Thanks....--Jogi don (talk) 12:21, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

If you think it is a problem and want to resign, now or in the future, you can do this at Steward_requests/Permissions#Removal_of_access. I hope this answer your question. About a local request for adminship

Hi. We have a request for adminship at ro.wikinews (see here). Now, due to the fact that the only bureaucrat has been inactive for several months and so is the other admin, after more than a month since the last comment there, I requested to an experienced user (admin within another project) to establish whether there is consensus or not in giving admin rights to the candidate. He managed to do so, stating that the pro arguments beat by far the arguments against. Personally, I expected him to do a more elaborate analysis, including the candidate's activity. Also, from his comment it is not clear what exactly did he found irrelevant or not so important regarding the arguments against and what exactly did he find positive in the candidate's activity so far. The main pro arguments were that there isn't any active admin on ro.wikinews, which is true. But in my opinion it's not enough to give someone admin rights. Anyway, until someone notifies at Meta, things will just be on "stand-by". Any ideas? Regards, Wintereu 17:38, 10 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi Wintereu, it does not matter what conclusion someone takes from the election. It is up to the local bureaucrat to decide whether there is consensus. Or if the bureaucrat is inactive, and if the request is taken to meta, a steward will decide. Until a request is posted on meta, the stewards are not involved, and I suggest you simply do nothing and wait. A 5-4 vote would in general be not enough support. I see two irregularities, namely that most of the people at "Pentru" are not members of the wikinews community, but seem to come from Wikipedia, and secondly that one of the "Împotrivă" voters is banned on at least 5 other projects. If someone says there is enough support, they can ask the bureaucrat or come to meta and post a request. Until such time, no action is needed. So again, I suggest you simply wait. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 20:37, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
I don't know why I had the impression that I already replied to you. Better later than never, I guess. Thank you (once again) for your (very) quick feedback and good advice. All the best, Wintereu 07:39, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

Translation notification: Template:StrategyButton2016/editintro/Communities

Hello Taketa,

You are receiving this notification because you signed up as a translator to Dutch on Meta. The page Template:StrategyButton2016/editintro/Communities is available for translation. You can translate it here:

The priority of this page is high. The deadline for translating this page is 2016-01-18.

- This is the part of a series of community consultation pages. The WMF Community Advocacy team has put together a list at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/2016_Strategy/Translations. We're hoping to launch the consultation on January 18th. Realizing getting all translations in place before the launch of the consultation may not be possible (and that people will likely help with translations after the launch), I'd be really grateful for any assistance especially that you can give in translating the templates at that Meta page link, like this one. It'll probably be harder for casual translators to help out with those!

- Text should be stable at this point. I've just made what I hope will be the last modification to those pages!

- Thank you for all you do, and I hope you will not only assist in translation (if you are able) but also take part in the consultation. Your input will be very welcome.

- Questions or concerns? Please let me know at mdennis@wikimedia.org. Thanks! Maggie

MassMessage permission request

Could you tell me where should I request MassMessage permission for myself? Is it [[[SRP]]?<r/>Almost regularly I need to contact many users on Meta and 5-6 other Indian Wikis, this right should be very helpful. -- -- Tito Dutta (talk) 05:44, 14 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi Tito Dutta, those requests are handled by local admins. If you want this right on meta you can ask at Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 05:53, 14 January 2016 (UTC)

Your response in the Consultation

Just wanted to say that I think you're spot on and I really like your suggestions re improving the public image of Wikipedia through collaboration with governments and organisations. --SSneg (talk) 08:17, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

Dear SSneg, thank you for your kind words. I appreciate it. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 08:35, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

In regards to my request to reclaim my old username

You replied to my request to change my user back to the original username "aphex" on December 19th:

"Hi Aphex, other people across the world used the name Aphex just like you, only in different language versions of Wikipedia. Half a year ago all accounts became global. There is a Korean editor who also uses the name and has more edits then you. As such he got the global name and you were renamed. You will have to pick a new name for your acount. - Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 06:16, 10 December 2015 (UTC)"

Are you serious? How is that relevant that this user has more edits than me? My account is older (from 2005). Isn't there some rule stating that the first one to claim a username gets to keep it?

Dear Aphex, everyone was the first person in their respective project to choose that name. It was decided that the amount of edits was to be more important than picking it first and not using the account. If there was some extremely wrong result the stewards would decide. However in all cases where the result was not completely unlogical it was decided by amount of edits. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 19:22, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
IMHO, this doesn't sound right. I did some edits during the first years, and created some articles. Haven't been much active since then but still, I login from time to time. The other guy has some activity in 2008-2009, and then nothing. My last edit is from 2008, so I can't really see how you can seriously consider giving him the username with my account being 3 years older than his. Can't you just admit a mistake was made and fix it?
Age of the account is not a deciding factor. Please choose a different name or ask another steward for a second opinion. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 05:43, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

Request (2)

Hi dear Taketa. In armenian Wikipedia is the law, by which the can't block the user if there is a conflict with him. In jule 2015 user Arman musikyan blocked indefinitely my account. He had a conflict with me in 3 wikiproject. Sysop user:Lilitik22 said support unblock. Her support users - user:El-ßäbrega, user:Vahram Mekhitarian and others. Sysop user:David Saroyan said don't want to comment this conflict/block. Sysops User:Beko, User:23artashes and others don't want to comment my block, except one. User Arman musikyan said will leave (go away) from Wikipedia, if they unblock me. In armenian Wikipedia don't had Arbitration Committee. What can I do? I have more than 15000 edits in armenian Wikipedia. I do several times asked the reconciled, but he don't agree.--6AND5 (talk) 13:12, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

Dear 6AND5, I do not think the stewards can help in this matter. This should be handled locally. I recommend you ask someone who is neutral to start a new local discussion or a vote. As I understand the situation, you were an admin. You had trouble in January 2015. Blocked yourself indefinite, resigned and left in February 2015. Wanted to return on 20 June 2015. And in the next two weeks you were blocked for 3 months and eventually indefinite by 3 admins, who disagreed on the duration. Reason noted is disruption, insults and threats. There was a discussion. And the last blocking admin was a participant. Tell me if I said something wrong or missed anything. That an involved admin blocks is not good, but it is not uncommon on a small project, and it is up to the local community to adres the issue. Since 3 seperate admins believed a block was in order, I will assume there was a cause and the block was not completely unprovoked or without cause. As such, I do not believe steward intervention would be the right course to take. I believe there is a large enough community that this can be decided locally. I suggest you ask a neutral user to start a new discussion. Or if this will not come to any consensus, ask them to start a local vote pro- or against- the block. This will force the matter and you can see if the block has the support of the community yes or no. Either way you will have an answer and the block will not simply be because of any personal reasons, but will be either lifted or supported by the community. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 15:53, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
Users Vacio and Erjanik already former sysops. In armenian Wikipedia it is not possible to hold a vote, attacks begin against those who want to support me. Erjanik in august said that if I want to return to the аrmenian Wikipedia, I have to go to the headquarters of the organization Wikimedia Armenia. I do not know what to do. If you let the stewards will open the voting here and give the result here?--6AND5 (talk) 16:42, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
I really think you need to handle this locally. I do not see a reason why you cannot hold a vote on hy.wiki. There is no rule stopping a vote, and people giving their opinion is also no reason not to vote. User Lilitik22 is still an admin and you say they are in favor of an unblock. They could start a vote. I see no reason why a vote on meta would result in anything different from a vote on hy.wiki. Wikimedia Armenia has no say on online matters. So that is not an option. If you think a vote would result in the block being supported, then it is a community supported block, and I do not think anything could be done to undo this. If the community feels you should be blocked, even if you disagree with the block, we cannot undo this. I can only suggest you start a vote. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 16:53, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
I don't think so. I have several times offered to open official vote, which it will not discuss, but only to vote for or against. But never opened, or rather not allowed a vote. How can you vote if someone writes 10 KB of text threatening that he'll leave if my block will be removed.--6AND5 (talk) 17:21, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
A threat to leave is no reason not to vote. Alot of text can be moved to the talk page or a discussion section on the bottom of the vote page. This is a local problem. Someone threatening to leave does not change if you hold a vote anywhere else. If his threat to leave influences the voters, so be it. That is their right. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 17:24, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
(As requested) I agree with Taketa. Stewards are no arbitrators and this needs to be solved locally IMHO. This is different from the situation of map-bms, where there was a blatant misuse of admin tools granted temporary by us, for example. I am sorry, but I think you'll have to sort this out locally. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio 12:00, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
Marco, If there are not working laws, how to resolve the conflict. If everything is decided at the headquarters of the organization of Wikimedia Armenia, and I refuse to go to the headquarters, how to solve it? I have several times said let's make peace, but they themselves say that Wikipedia is a platform war, where I am their enemy...--6AND5 (talk) 13:25, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
This is the law by which it was decided that the administrator having a conflict with the user, can't block it -(Wikipedia/Poll/Block)--6AND5 (talk) 13:25, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
One of the reasons for my problems, therefore blockings, I on February 13 2015 voted neitralno (change my voice) for Azerbaijan's user Cekli829 (Stewards/Elections 2015/Votes/Cekli829). --6AND5 (talk) 13:43, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

Confirmation discussions

Dear Taketa,

As you probably know, the confirmation discussions for Stewards have been closed. In order to determine the outcome of these discussions, you are invited to comment on Talk:Stewards/Confirm/2016 before scheduled closure of the confirmation section "one week after the appointment of the newly elected stewards" (Sunday 6th of March, 17:22 UTC), though the closing time might be extended at the ElectCom's discretion for an extra week if it is believed "further input is required before concluding". All stewards are welcome to comment, including those newly elected.

For those who ran for confirmation, consider revising comments regarding you, and replying to those where appropriate. Savhñ 08:01, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your work as a steward

Hi Taketa, I'm regretful to inform you that after the stewards' confirmations your steward rights have been removed. I want to thank you for your work you have done as a steward during the year and I hope you will still stay active and maybe become a steward again in the future, if you want of course. :) --Stryn (talk) 18:01, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

Dear Stryn, thank you for your message. The past year was a great learning experience. It was nice working with everyone as a steward. It is too bad that there was insufficient community support. I am glad with all the support that people expressed and also the nice words from all the other stewards. See you around. All the best, Taketa (talk) 08:20, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Wikimania 2016: IdeaLab Workshops

Wikimania 2016 is almost here! Mjohnson (WMF) and I are running two workshops for IdeaLab during the conference, and you are invited to join us for either (or both!)

If you have a proposal or idea you are thinking about, and would like a space to work on it on your own or with others, please consider joining us for either the Thursday or Saturday sessions. We'll discuss a little about IdeaLab and how it works, and the rest of the time is space for idea building. You can also use this session to ask questions about Wikimedia Foundation grants that are available if your proposal or idea may need funding. Thanks, and see you at the conference! Dear Taketa Thanks for responding on my talk page.I am trying to create few articles on Cultural Haritage but in my native language and about my country's haritage. Please see whether they are in line of your requirement or not? secondly I want one more information , Do you have some experience of carrying a GLAM project. I am interested to take up such project with Archive dapartment of my state. Regards

--Harvinder Chandigarh (talk) 14:45, 4 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi Harvinder Chandigarh, I am a bit busy this week but will have a look soon. Feel free to add links to your own language and if you want we can help add a sitenotice on the wiki to attract more attention. I do some GLAM cooperation with universities and musea but I am not that experienced. I simply cooperate and see how it goes. In the Netherland we do cooperate with the National Archives but I am not involved in this cooperation. Is there any specific thing you would like to know? You probabaly meet User:Romaine at Wikimania. He knows more about GLAM cooperations with the Dutch archives. All the best, Taketa (talk) 15:23, 4 July 2016 (UTC)

Awarding

I would like to award you with this star for your idea for the writing week on Cultural Heritage. Thank you :) --Ανώνυμος Βικιπαιδιστής 23:19, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi Ανώνυμος Βικιπαιδιστής, thank you for the nice barnstar! Great work on the Greek Wikipedia. I hope you will join again for the next writing project. Probably in January about Canada. I will see if I can spread the barnstar around the international editors as well. All the best, Taketa (talk) 08:36, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Of course we will join in the next writing project with great joy. Thank you--Ανώνυμος Βικιπαιδιστής (talk) 22:56, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Writing weeks about Bullying on Greek Wikipedia

Dear Taketa, your wonderful idea about the Cultural Heritage writing weeks - which we replicated on Greek Wikipedia as you already know - has spurred a new initiative: The Wikipedia Community Schools Association Greece is now running two weeks of writing on Bullying. This idea comes in perfect timing with the start of the new school year, as it includes school bullying and all different manifestations of bullying and harassment that are experienced in schools and learning institutions. Therefore, we in turn invite you to spread our initiative to Dutch (and other!) Wikipedias, in the direction of creating useful knowledge for all those that have been afflicted by abusive behaviors in this spectrum. The writing weeks will start tomorrow 22 August and end on 5 September. Once again, it was a pleasure to meet you in Esino Lario and thanks for the inspiration! :) Best, Mina --Saintfevrier (talk) 07:02, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

Dear Mina, this sounds like a nice idea and a good timing with the start of the school year. I will see if I have the time to start it on the Dutch Wikipedia ;). I don't think we can start anything in other languages on such short notice. Btw, some writing projects are nice to do globally and some should be done locally. In this case for example there is no reason why we shouldn't join, but at the same time there is also no added benefit besides the fun of it. I think we should only do all the added plannng of a global project, when we have some kind of extra benefit from it. For example if we can get extra media attention. Ofcourse the Dutch and Greek Wikipedia can alsways cooperate ;). All the best, Taketa (talk) 07:47, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

Media attention on writing weeks

Hi again Mike! I accidentally opened a new topic on your talk page and was about to go back and comment under the previous paragraph but maybe it is better this way: this just went live on Alfavita.gr, which is Greece's biggest portal for education-related matters. (I'm sure "it's all Greek to you" hehe so here's an explanation: I had written a post about the bullying-themed writing weeks in my personal blog and sent it to the portal for them to reblog).

The added value is that Alfavita is widely reblogged all over the country, which means even more outreach. There was also another blog mention by a colleague Computer Science teacher in his popular blog. I'll be updating here as we get more publicity.

So it seems that the Bullying and Harassment initiative on Greek Wikipedia is getting a good deal of media attention after all:) Thanks again for the inspiration! Best wishes, Mina--Saintfevrier (talk) 07:38, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

What about...

You proposed with User:Romaine a Writing week/Brussels right after the 22nd of march events. what about a writing week on Amatrice, Accumuli, Arquata del Tronto and the other areas destroyed by the earthquake? you know for some area we don't even pictures before the events, this would be our way to show how important is to preserve information on cultural heritage all the time. I've also contacted onwiki and offwiki 2 wiki-users that lives close to that area. they're shocked and I would like to show this as a gesture of virtual proximity.

I'm asking you because I saw you organizing them sometimes, just as a feedback. I am writing an email at WMI right now. citing this thread. Tell me, is it a nice gesture in your opinion?--Alexmar983 (talk) 17:59, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

Dear Alexmar983, I think it would be a great idea to organise a writing week with as reason the 2016 Central Italy earthquake. I suggest a writing week about "Italy", and the Italian Wikipedia might do a writing week about the region (the villages you suggested). It would have to be organised with some rapidity. I can organise on the Dutch Wikipedia, and ask around for other language. It won't be enormously big, but I am sure we can organise something nice. How active are you? Since you are blocked, you probably cannot organise on the Italian Wikipedia? Can you contact someone who can? Can we meet on IRC this evening maybe, say 20:00 West European time, and discuss? Or another evening. If we work hard, maybe we can start the writing week on Monday 5 September. Let me know. All the best, Taketa (talk) 09:52, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
Ok, I can do something but I don't have IRC (also my mails got lost since some months). Can you contact m on skype? It is the same nickname
In any case italian wikisource decided to propose a book about th history of earthquake in the area.
If you don't like a very specific title we can use "Central Italy" (see w:en:2016 Central Italy earthquake) but the lists I can produce form wikidata will be from those specific comuni, including people born there. I can also inform in German or French the local projects.--Alexmar983 (talk) 12:08, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
I contacted Gereon K. and he is willing to organise for the German Wikipedia. I am sorry, I do not have Skype. IRC is very easy. You do not need an account. Just fill in any name and you have that name temporarily. Just go to webchat.freenode.net and type in a name. Channel is #wikipedia-nl
On the bottom of the screen you can type. On the top of the screen you can switch between channels. Shall we meet on IRC? Let me know.
I would like the global community to work on "Writing Week Italy". I understand this is not logical for the Italian Wikipedia, so you can locally use "Writing Week Central Italy" or something like that.
I have btw already send an email out to the Italian embassy in the Netherlands, and they will probably reply Monday.
So let me know if and when we can meet on IRC. All the best, Taketa (talk) 12:15, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
That was a much better explenation than help pages on itwiki. Nice idea to contact the embassy. Well, I sent you a test message.--Alexmar983 (talk) 12:46, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
I have a problem. 20 minutes ago I received an emergency letter from my boss (real job). I've to cut wikistuff for a while. Now, I think the idea is good (we arranged something on itwikisource, because people liked it) but so far no direction from WMI (a clear yes or no, I mean). We discussed many option on ML but my comments, the mail I sent right after i told to you, got no reply. If I had the time, I could do a lot but I can't. This things happen, I was very motivated to arrange something, but this is a RL work emergency. I cannot express how disappointed I am that it occurred now. So I hope some other it-N user will like the idea and join in the effort, but now I just can't do anything "myself" for the next 10 days. If someone step it I'm more than welcome to provide expertise, but i really don't have time for a while. So it is. Sorry again if you lost some time, at least it was only 24 hours. But again hope someone will from WMI will like the idea and join.--Alexmar983 (talk) 01:29, 28 August 2016 (UTC)

No renaming between November 20 and November 27

Hi,

You’re getting this because you’re a steward or global renamer. The Community Tech team are working on cross-wiki watchlists. We need to add a couple of fields to the localuser table in centralauth database. In order to be able to do this, we’d need to run a script that will get in the way of renaming users. Our apologies – we realize this is getting in the way of your work.

We ask that you do not rename anyone between 00:00 November 20 (UTC) and 00:00 November 27 (UTC).

(UTC means that if you live in the Americas, it will be on the evening or afternoon of November 19 when the script starts running, and if you live in Oceania or eastern Asia, it can be closer midday on November 27 before we can be sure the script is no longer running.)

Phabricator task.

If there are any problems related to this, or you have any questions, please write me on my talk page. /Johan (WMF) (talk) via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 19:42, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

A request by a nlwiki user

Resistance in the second world war

Greetings Taketa,

Firstly thanks for your endorsement to my idea to form a user group for military historians. In the endoresement, you've mentioed that Wikimedia Nederlands is planning to do some campaign related to "resistance in the second world war". I would like to know more about this, and hopefully, this user group will be on tracks by April (at least informally), we can support the initiative. This'll help us to showcase the group's working before we propose to AffCom.

Looking forward to hear from you.

Military history user group title

Greetings, firstly thanks for your support and feedback to the proposal to form a user group for military historians of Wikipedia. As there is enough support for the proposal, it is time to choose a title, and go ahead. Please vote at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians#Group name. Proposal for writing week

Hi, i have a solid proposal for a writing week for the WikiClassics user group. It will be basically about ancient Rome and ancient Greece and related topics. I have more interested users than those shown there. Are you interested? I can also make a good social media campaign, I am in Italy now and not in China.--Alexmar983 (talk) 21:28, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

My idea is to do one about ancient Greece and one about ancient Rome. And not soon, in few months is even better. but tell me what you think.--Alexmar983 (talk) 21:31, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi Alexmar, I can join though I am a bit busy right now. A couple month preparation time would be best, specially if you want to write in several languages. I can get attention on the Dutch Wikipedia and assist in general. What do you need? All the best, Taketa (talk) 23:58, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
Just that you agree that we can do it. we will gather more users in the next month (one of the next coming is pt-N). Tell me when you think it's the best to start and... we start.--Alexmar983 (talk) 21:08, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
We are preparing automated list of missing articles too, they should be useful.--Alexmar983 (talk) 21:08, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
