Thank youEdit

Thank you for translating my election statement into Japanese, and for all your work on organising the other translations. It is very appreciated. :) Angela 22:07, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The anonymous user you blocked earlier for editing my pages was me. You said that Wikimedia's Meta-Wiki is not a free webspace, well, i link my other user pages and websites of my interest to my user pages on Wikimedia's Meta-Wiki in order for them to be together in one page. What's wrong with that? --Eddy 15:52, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Read Meta:About. Your usage doens't match any of four purposes of Meta. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 19:07, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Template : EdMlEdit

I apologise, my Template doesn't work yet; but I try to let it work. It's a bit complicated, but if it works it would be good, isn'it ? Now I am just testing. I didn't put it in the pages. --Arno Lagrange  09:33, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Now Template:Election candidates 2005/quickview ML works. I made en eo fr. If you agree we can put them instead of Template:Election_candidates_2005/quickview and ask the translators make a version in their own languages. We must not use two different in the same time becaŭse we could'nt be sure all information are up to date. --Arno Lagrange  10:59, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Don't worry, I was confused and just upset. There was not so much worse as I was afraid. And your template is really a nice idea. Yes, please put in in other languages too, and how do you think we will use same techniq for Template:Edit? Some people like Patrick are eager to promote such multilingualism with templates, and I assume you will be able to coordinate. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 22:07, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
so I did the stuff. It's ready. I put the templates in the Translation_requests#Current_requests. --Arno Lagrange  07:04, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I changed Template:QvEdMl to Template:QvEditMl with only one variable. Please check the Template:QvEditMl/Ja whether now it is right. The reason why I tryed with two variables is that originally I wanted to make a generic EdMl template (multilingual edit template) with a variable that means "edit" and one for the shown name of the page to edit, and another for the page to edit real name. But because it didn't work (I guess we have to create a new class (called "editml" similar to the class "edit" used in the template:ed ) I created QvEdMl (Quick view multilingual edit template) that is specific for quickview. A generic edml is to be created. --Arno Lagrange  05:54, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for your notice, as for Ja, it seems okay. ;-) --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 15:31, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Georgio-Armenian WikipediaEdit

Can you fix problem whit interwiki of this Wikipedia? Serbo-Croatian is Srpskohrvatski on Latin or Српскохрватски on Cyrillic. I suppose that name Srpskohrvatski/Српскохрватски is to long. Can you put Srpskoхрватски or Српскоhrvatski? Thank you. --Pokrajac 00:14, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

You mean to the language box? If so, you need to ask devs to fix it. You can ask them at Bugzilla. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 23:23, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Yes, to the left interwiki language box on any Wikipedia. I shall ask them. Thank you. --Pokrajac 23:26, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I put a question to you at sv:Användardiskussion:RaSten#Election RaSten 05:35, 27 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the answer. Now another question:

Shouldn't the first screens of Election candidates 2005 be removed by now, as the nominations are ended and voting has started? RaSten 00:39, 28 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Stripped, thank you. But I don't think personally it should be, because it is obvious no furtehr candidate will be accepted thanks to deadline, though would be better. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 01:14, 28 Jun 2005 (UTC)
OK, they are stripped from the quick view, but I find the first screen hiding the presentations. The procedure for entering isn't important any more, is it? RaSten 07:14, 28 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Sorry I can't figure what you mean. Would you explain in different wordings? Thanks. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 08:00, 28 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I mean, that the text before Quick view of candidates should be removed, so as to get the reader straight to the candidate presentations. That text is obsolete now that noone can enter any more. RaSten 08:30, 28 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Btw, how do I vote? I translated the UI texts and put them in place at the Swedish Wikipedia, but how do I start the UI? RaSten 08:30, 28 Jun 2005 (UTC)
As for the text on candidates page, I have a different opinion. I don't think it should be removed; there is no confusion, see also last year page. and in my opinion it is useful information how they have been accepted. Moreover, if we get rid of it, it isn't clear we will accept no candidate. So I prefer to keep them during the election. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 09:11, 28 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Thank you for your work. Now dev(s) are working. Thank you for your patience. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 09:08, 28 Jun 2005 (UTC)
OK, thanks for your answer. I couldn't find the information anywhere, and the texts say that votings started at midnight UTC. RaSten 09:29, 28 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Why did you add a line in the Template:Election not respecting the multilinguism as in the other lines? We try to have multilingal pages and are appearing again english words in non-english pages. Instead "Interface" you should put {Interface} --Arno Lagrange  11:23, 28 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I don't think it is a good idea; without variable, nothing will display and it is very urgent. It would seem okay, at least for en, but most of template would have no information. And we have many thing to deal with. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 11:28, 28 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I am sorry disturbing with my {interface}. In the moment I have no time enough to assume it in all languages (editing take me very lot of time, very often it doesn't and I must try again several times till my edit is saved). But it's a pitty that because we have no time, multilinguism is no more applied !!! --Arno Lagrange  06:17, 29 Jun 2005 (UTC)

About chessEdit

Sorry for play the chess in meta. I just curious about this because it uses the simple mediawiki grammar makes fantastic thing. should we start a new project to do some research of the mediawiki grammar. everybody can use their imaggination to creat the interesting things. may be we can call it "wikimagination" or something like that. I have made some experiment on the edit tools chinese wikipedia, it will be very convinece to the editers. It's here, there are four columns for different types edit tools and maintance template. so what do you think about this, waiting for your reply!--Vipuser 05:17, 2005 Jun 29 (UTC)

Your opinion sounds good but why you didn't use sandbox, page for experimental. and it sounds not a good reason for you to remove rfd tag entirely: you deprive the chance from other editors to advocate this page on RfD. I unprotected the page so you can make experiment on that page (perhaps with preview, and please keep rfd tag when you ended your experiment!) Thank you for your consideration. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 05:22, 29 Jun 2005 (UTC)
As for chinese tools ;-) I would like to have a time of experiment later. It seems interesting. On my preferences, I prefer to have generic tools like "basic template table" in other window (I was an emacs user formerly and window division is familiar gimick for me), but currently it seems to be hard on MediaWiki. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 05:27, 29 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Sorry I can't understand what you mean. If you find any wrong point on my answer, please submit your own question to the FAQ page. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 22:57, 29 Jun 2005 (UTC)
If you follow the link, you'll see two differences; one is certainly correct, where you entered "Submit your question at the bottom", but there is also a difference, where you put something right into the word "replaced". I dont know if you actually meant to paste anything there or it was just a mistake to paste "ard itself (see Article IV" there. As it is now, it doesn't make sense. Icould of course correct it myself, but as I don't know if you wanted more than one edit in that diff, I thought it best to let you know about the mistake. Sorry to bother. Thx for your concern. ^__^ I am moved.

Back to the topic, I actually need some help. There is a new user who posted nearly 40 new articles, which all violated copyrights. I was thinking about if I can delete them all by some sort of SQL commands. Do you have any idea? ;-)

Once again, thx for your message. ^__^ I am still rushing for my assignment. Talk to you later.-- Tomchiukc 02:41, 30 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for thanks. Wow, it's a bit reckless ... have you blocked him or her already? If so, I recommend to do so even within one week. It is a good way to have this editor promise that he or she will not submit any new article until past his or her edits would be proved if they are copyvios or not. As for technical issues, I recommend to ask an advice developers. One of sure ways is in my opinon to post this question the above to wikipedia-l or just Meta:Babel. Request on Bugzilla would be helpful.

I hope you enjoy your new residence. Cheers, --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 03:20, 30 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Why be bored ;-) It will certainly. Already two Wikipedias are born from test wiki. By the way do you know any friends who speak Banyumasan too? How about inviting them to test wiki? Editing by two is more fun than editing alone, as you know. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 05:05, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)

They're many and indeed they helped me, but the problem is how to understand Wikipedia system or program, it's not as simple as reading and typing. Other problem is my English better then my Banyumasan friends, me in basic level so what about them ?. I'll never give up, even it will take a long time I'll finish it User:Slamet Serayu. If I give you my password would it usefull ? at least to do with the system, how about that ?

As for telling Wikipedia system or program, basic documentations on the site and some printed blurbs might be helpful. And to start the project, you have to translate some basic documents like Copyright (and brief explanation what is GFDL), NPOV and so on.
Sharing passward isn't generally not a good idea, and in this moment, unnecessary perhaps. Without sharing password we can work together - that is wikipedia. ;-) --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 06:56, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Transleting them all not a big problem to me (sorry not to be conceited), the big problem is to understand the program but I'll do it. Okey Naoko, please keep control on my works. Best regard, Slamet Serayu.

I've read your message, please do anything you need to do, you know it better then me and I appreciated it. I've done many things, if it made something wrong (I'm sure it was) please tell me. Slamet Serayu 8 July 2005 01:03 (UTC)

Hello Naoko, I've asked one of my best friend (a native Banyumasan) to accompanying me so that Banyumasan Wikipedia will be sooner to past by its test phase. Please remind him freely if he've done something wrong. Hei, I lost your User Page in the past few days, why ? Slamet Serayu 02:12, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

Dear Naoko, why there is no progress in Banyumasan Wikipedia? who can solving Banyumasan ISO-Code problem? Slamet Serayu 07:28, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

Is it not yet set up? The proper discussion place would be Template:Requests for new languages/Banyumasan. Discuss which language code is preferable with other supporters - and then ask a developer to set it up as like other Wikipedias. Like your friend, who got recently his own language wiki. --Aphaia 10:48, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

I assume you're talking about my edit to User:Aphaia/WMF/Our projects/Wikisource? Sorry if I broke the formatting. Apparently my improvement wasn't welcome after all. Anyway, note that Image:Wikisource.jpg was deleted from the Commons, as it was redundant to Image:Wikisource-logo.jpg. That's why I made the change. Dbenbenn 21:37, 5 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Thank you for your notice, but it doens't affect those files. I mean all your changes including my subpages. They are drafts of WMF content, and WMF has the images used by itself, and don't rely on ones on Commons without few exceptions. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 22:45, 5 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Could you do me a favour?Edit

Could you look at my comments here and tell me if I'm out of line? I understand that Eloquence is opposed to the Open English edition I'm proposing, and he keeps editing the pre-launch documents to present his arguments [1] [2] [3]. While I'm not opposed to giving space to the arguments against creation of the edition, I don't think the prelaunch documents are the right venue for it.

I'd appreciate if you could tell me if I should include arguements against the edition in the organization page for the pre-launch. - Amgine 6 July 2005 08:40 (UTC)

I would like to say I could be help, but sorry to say I am currently not sure how much I could be help for you. There seems to be some arguments you would be better to solve to proceed your ideas.
Your concern about openness is appreciated and great. I confess even I hesitate to submit a new article to the current English Wikinews; it seems not so casual as other Wikimedia projects. But please consider, "new edition" means generally a new language edition and most of us editors aren't familiar with a situation multiple projects are running in the one same language except English and Simple one. And in this case it is obvious their differences - linguistic ones and its target. On the other hand, I presume things appear not so clear in the case you are conceaving. You have already noticed some editors asked you why you couldn't just improve the current Wikinews (as an insider, perhaps, not on another project). I was blunt to you when I asked you if it would be a fork. And now I feel although your idea could be a reasonable alternative, I wonder however still why it woulnd't be possible within the current Wikinews - sometimes newspapers have multiple sets of editions --- focusing particular topics --- I am sorry if my words sound criticism, I don't intend so, but we would be happier with much clearer perspective, specially the relation between the Open English edition and the exsiting English Wikinews.
As for the venue, I am afraid it would be difficult for us to understand why the page for "new editions" is the best place without such information. Some editors might doubt if it could be a legitimate "new edition" and accepted by the rest of grobal Wikinews community. If not, it would be really sad and discouraged. So even people who wouldn't oppose, they might hesitate to show their support or interest under the current situation. And if I recall correctly, though your has been supported by several editors, but it would be problematic it have got enough number of supporters. Perhaps, you would be better to explain your idea much clear or in a different approach you have attempted ever. I know you are ever a good editor on a good faith but currently, your initiative to the proposed project seems to me a bit adventurous and need to provide more information to the potential contributors. (See GeraldM's concern for example).
As for Erik's opposition, his attitude hasn't been perfect as for argment on this page (I should say I don't know what happend on the Wikinews, as you know, I am not active there), and seems a bit harsh, but I think you needn't mention his name as Wikinews bureaucrat in your statement. As you know, introduction of new extention, it isn't capable for bureacrat at any rate, so in my opinion there is no relevance between his bureaucracy and introduction of new features. (It might belong to developers' task, thought here it is the same person ... ) Moreover, "newbie-unfriendly" formatting tendency and bureaucrat unilaterality (if exists) seems to me irrelevant, and you mightn't need to mention the latter. I don't know what Erik did, but at any rate, sysop unilaterality could be a problem on every project, even on your own, and it doesn't sound no good reason to set up a new project (because it could be repeated in the newer circumstance too). So besides what Erik did and is doing, in my opinion, you would be nice to modify that part and try to make your statement clear and concentrate the neceesity of new approach to achive openess you would pursuit here.
I hope you would find something helpful on my words, though I am not sure to how extent. Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 6 July 2005 11:05 (UTC)
Thank you very much, Aphaia! Your comments are excellent, and are showing me I'm too close to this for good judgement. I will take them into consideration, and see how I can integrate them into the proposal after getting a bit of rest.
Warm thanks! - Amgine 6 July 2005 11:11 (UTC)

Request to AphaiaEdit

Dear Aphaia, please take a look at [4] and Response on Derek Ross talk. Derek Ross (and you) mistakenly started the full names article. Witkacy =[5]. Older version (seems to be Caius2ga plus others) has picked this up (see Witkacy /talk 'Helga Boska' and multiply slandered H.J., who had stopped submitting to wikipedia a long time ago. 67.. changed all the 83.. #, who Wikacy had connected to full H.J. name and where he posted this Meta Wiki article( see histories).(Please look up the urls, the 83.. people, who are trying to revert Witkacies vandalisms are nowhere near California. Yet he posts them all as vandals on his page (see edit) and claims that they are H.J. (in his older version and on different talk pages. H.J. is the only version authorized by Jimbo Wales. 67.. changed the Meta article to H.J., posted the response to Derek after emailing JWales, but he is on a trip and Derek is gone since June. Therefore the request to you, please change the title of the article and the category from full names to initials. Thank You from 67.. Calif.

Hello Calif, thank you for your message. I was first surprised and wondered if such article could be allowed here, even if it was not on the exact project H.J. was banned from. Your information helps me to understand that situation. Just now I moved it and ... ah by accident deleted all revisions including yours ... I can't figure what happened. It was possibly from my carelessness. Or not. A Mediawiki bug perhaps. Or not. Please let me explain:
 • Fisrt I tried to move the article to H.J.saga. Then the server was very slow, and I got "sorry- we have a problem", so I used the browser "back" botton and tried to move it again. But the page was moved --- only it didn't appear on my browser, and I failed to find it in my second trial and "made a way to move" in the second move. It appeared .. because I am here an admin.
 • Then I got a self-redirect from H.J.sage to H.J.saga. In history there were 11 deleted revisions. I tried to undelete them. I made my second mistake perhaps then. The latest revision was my moving:
The page H.J.saga has been successfully restored. See meta:Deletion_log for a record of recent deletions and restorations.(The Hxxxx Jxxxx saga moved to H.J.saga). Prausibly I should have leave this revision and only should restore the rest 10 revisions. But then I tried to undelete all 11 revisions ... As a result I got a message
The page H.J.saga has been successfully restored. See meta:Deletion_log for a record of recent deletions and :*:restorations.
 • But none of them were restored. I got a self-redirect. And all. Still there is a message on its history "View or restore 11 deleted edits?" But they can't be accessed now. Instead of deleted revisions, now I get a message "There is no edit history for this page.". On deletion log, there is a message
20:28, 19 July 2005 Aphaia restored "H.J.saga" (11 revisions restored)
 • However, in fact there is only one self-redirect. I am ashamed and feel very sorry for all involved parties. Sorry for lost. --Aphaia++ 20:46, 19 July 2005 (UTC)
I found right now the version you had linked on my talk has been alive, and put it again as the current version. Other revisions can't be seen even as "older version" from diff. Thank you for giving a link. And sorry for deletion of your edits from history. --Aphaia++ 20:53, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

Hello Aphaia, this is fine now ( I just changed the name in the beginning to initials. I will add the Rerek discussion again at the top. Perhaps that is what got you confused, that I linked to Derek up front? But thank you so much, this is fine. Calif. 3:48 pm 19 July 2005

Professor Ishiguro interviewEdit

Yeah, I already saw the translation. If you could thank Morita42 in my name, I'd be really grateful.

In any case - NGerda (he has put the information about WNN, from what I know) didn't know we're talking about an email interview. Well, if professor Ishiguro would spare some time and agree for a spoken interview, by someone from the Japanese community, this could be arranged - but I can't do anything here.

Right now, we're conducting an email interview - nothing more. Datrio 13:24, 1 August 2005 (UTC)

Asking For AdviceEdit

Hi Aphia >> thanks for ur Reply ... i want to ask u which procedure i have to gp through to get the Buroearat on the Arabic Projects . Best Regards --Chaos 18:45, 28 August 2005 (UTC)

It is desribed at the top of the request page. You need to 1) specify the project (already done), 2) create the request page on the local project (like that page, even there is no other user than you) 3) and link it from the page on meta (there is a list of such request pages on that page); if I recall correctly, at least ar Wikiquote has such a page. My name is Joan Touzet, and I have been organizing the wiki for information distribution from New Orleans, Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Right now, I am in Tokyo on "vacation" but am assisting in the effort anyway. Does wish to cover any of our work, or help translate any resources into 日本語? We need resources who can help when people in North America need to sleep. Those who can speak fluent English would be most welcome.

Thank you for your consideration. よろしくお願い対します。

Babel templatesEdit

Hi Aphaia!
Say, have you created the design of the Babel templates? (I mean, in general)

Best regards, Mg22 18:04, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi, Mg22. Welcome to meta. It came from Commons to meta, I just brought them into here. It was my idea to separate colour between mother tongue and "foreign" ones basically, but their colours (blue and green) were tuned by ja:User:Kzhr. And it is used on meta. There is another trend which loves to distinguish each level in dirrent colours derived from English Wikipedia suppoosedly. Cheers --Aphaia++ 01:51, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
Hello! Thanks for your fast response!

Greetings, Mg22 10:41, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

p.s:Only to ensure that I have understood you correctly: the templates came originally from Commons? (because the version history of Template:User en in Commons says: "(copied from Meta)")

Best regards, Mg22 15:07, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

Ah ;-) The Babel system was invented on Commons, there were three templates for each language. Later I imported it into Meta. Then I added the forth template which represented mother tongue (hence different color from all three). So the template you mentioned had been actually created on meta and later copyed to Commons. --Aphaia++ 10:16, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed that you update MediaWiki:Recentchangestext. It is missing the NN Wikipedia link nn:Spesial:Recentchanges. It maybe missing more, this is the only one I noticed right away. If I remember, I will compare the links on it to the active projects list. Thanks. Who?¿? 10:35, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for your notice, the list had been created before Norsk project was divided into two. I'll list NN WP on that.
As for listing active projects, there are many projects not listed there, so I am afriad ]it is practically impossible for us to list all active projects in my opinion. But if not, your proposal would be very helpful. Cheers, --Aphaia++ 08:52, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for the update. I tend to agree that they may not all fit. I had planned to go through many of the interwiki projects where I think they may need to be updated and make a list. More of a personal project that I think needs attention. Thanks again for the update and reply. Who?¿? 09:46, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
You are welcome ;-) I suppose periodical updating "all wikipedia projects" list (link is available on RC). Perhaps we have both quick links and systematic list of all active projects - or it would be helpful only to maintain "all projects of Wikimedia". Anyway I would love to see your improvement ;-) --Aphaia++ 10:07, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

confusing procedureEdit

I know this is rude, but I kind of confused with the procedures to start a wikipedia. as you notice in starting a new wikipedia page, the buginese proposal hasn't got any oppose yet receives many support (cosensus) and me and my friends riyanz, agree to work together (both of us are native to this lang.). therefore, my proposal already meets the requirement rite? here comes the confusing part, the procedure said that i should contact one of the wikitech-I. so I follow the mailing list and found out there're like a hundred of names. therefore, which one should i pick? and since this lang. will be using unicode, which developer should i contact? and if i want to start the test wikipedia first, i don't think i wouldn't be able since (i think) wikimedia did not support lontara unicode. I'm really-really sorry if my inquires bothering you but I think you're the right person to ask these questions. Zaid 12.10am 21 October 2005 (UTC)

Hello Zaid, I appreciate your efforts to launch a new wiki. As I wrote on request page, my recommendation is to start a test wiki here on meta.
Perhaps you have to solve the problem which script you will use ... but I would like you to know you can switch the script (or convert) from one to another ... Serbian Wikipedia did it once. You can start your (test) wiki with the more convenient script, and later rewrite or just convert it to the more preferable one.
Though perhaps it is not the time yet to ask those developers to set up your wiki, as for technical stuffs including encoding, I recommend User:Tim Starling and User:Brion VIBBER as contact person. There are other many good guys of course, but those two guys are very frequently available and very friendly.
Good luck!
(By the way, could you please kindly let me know what "exco" stands for in "UNMO Youth Exco"?) --Aphaia++ 04:07, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
exco is like the head of a department. it's also been used in state department like the exco of state housing. This is one of the term we get from british Zaid 16.16 23 OCtober 2005 (UTC)
what do you mean by input method? Can you explain it to me. I got a problem, in the edit box, I can't type in the lontara. How other languages which didn't use roman, type their unicode? and at the same time has roman alphabet side by side. I already contacted tim starling, but he hasn't replied. Should I contact the wikitech as well asking about my problem? I couldn't connect to the irc freenode because my software abort the connection Zaid, 1.05 24 October 2005 (UTC)
Input method is a software which has you possible to type anything (even when you are using latin alphabet). If you use MS Windows, MS-IME is available free. Perhaps w:Input method helps you understanding. As for your problem, I don't know if such program is available for your language. Anyway it is not a problem of MediaWiki so I am not sure how MediaWiki developers can help you. Maybe your friends in the same language helps you ... or you would like to start with latin alphabet. --Aphaia++ 16:08, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
Oh gosh, we're having problem with writng, all we could see are blocks. therefore, we decided not to use our script instead change it to roman. I already email wikitech requesting this change. Btw, do you know who's incharge with changing the title of important pages like main page and special page? Currently, it's all in english (when I say english, not just the body, but the title as well like I don't want the title 'main page' , I want to change it to Laman utama - buginese like malay and indonesian.) I wish to change all of them to buginese. Surely step by step. Starting with category/categories. Most of our future contributors will be usig buginese/ indonesian and they aren't familiar with english. One of my friends told me that I should be a sysop so that I could do that kind of stuff. Do you know what's criteria needed to be a sysop? And whom should I forward my application? And I read an article when browsing the help page. It said that if I'm not a sysop (and not elligible for it:( ), I have to ask other sysop. Are you a sysop? If you are, can you help me then? And if you aren't, can you recomend me the best sysop? Zaid 0.42 25 October 2005 (UTC)

Please let me confirm what you meant; already your wiki is set up and you need to fix it. I understand right? So you don't need to start with test wiki.

To fix such messages you need sysopship as your friends said. You would like to request sysopship on Request for permissions. There you find instruction you needed. After you are granted sysopship, you find what you should do at Special:Allmessages on your wiki (this link is to meta version), a list of all MediaWiki messages. --Aphaia++ 12:01, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

I don't know the right term for this, maybe re-set up the wiki, because everything is in english. Thank you btw for the links. about the technical problem, it's feaking me out first but wikitech told me to use mozilla (before that, I'm using IE), and it's fixed. Zaid 14.29 25 Oktober 2005 (UTC)

requests for permissionsEdit

Aphaia, I just woder, why my adminship request's been pending? according to the request for adminship page, a person can reply for sysop for a wikipedia that doesn't have any sysop yet, just like buginese. Is there any special requirements other than that? Thank you Zaidpjd 06:50, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
I have no idea; you could ask them on that page - by the way did you put a link to your user page on the local wiki? I couldn't find it at meta. --Aphaia++ 08:34, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
It's under the code bug Zaidpjd 03:34, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
What I mean is that why it's taking so long to get the approval? (maybe because I'm not a patient person :P) However, if I'm not mistaken, Afrikaans request didn't take this long. Did I miss anything in my request? sorry for bothering you with this kind of question Zaidpjd 03:51, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
Ah, you mean your user page is on bug:User:Zaidpjd, but you need to put this link on the request page, then a steward can verify who he or she grants the permission. --Aphaia++ 20:30, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
I visited now Bug Wikipedia. The request page contains only ? for me but supposedly there is no discussion. Perhaps you are only one active contributor and that is the reason the page is almost vacant. If you don't mind, please use my note which content that page would have in the future. If I were you, I would ask for sysopship on that page or link another page where the contributors discussed this request. Or I would request for temporal sysopship until the Wikipedia community grows large enough discuss such matters. --Aphaia++ 21:10, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
I've been thinking about the second option. Sorry for the late reply. Been away because of Eid celebration. Currently, I'm looking for contributors and other people who're willing to be sysops. And actually, it's kind of inactive because of eid celebration. Zaidpjd 00:00, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
I was aware you had been granted sysopship and away due to Eid. Congrats and hope you spent a happy Eid! --Aphaia++ 10:13, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

Searching for romanized transcriptionEdit

Hi britty! I'm searching for a romanized transcriped of the japenese translation of the sentence "bread and pig" . (uuh.. confusing sentence.. i hope you understand what i mean) could you translated "bread and pig" into japanese and send me a romanized tranliteration? thx! --Louisana 19:24, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

I've tried to make a research to grasp what you really mean, but failed (or not). So I give you an literal answer - "bread and pig" (Brot und Schwein) is "pan to buta[niku]" in Japanese (niku means Fleisch), パンと豚[肉] in Kanji. Hoping it is what you want. --Aphaia 12:48, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

hi, about chinese wikinewsEdit

hi, Aphaia! Could you help me to boot the chinese wikinews? I contacted to user:Angela some days ago. but she have something to do now. So I need your help to contact the people related to launch the project. thank you ~! the vote page is --Vipuser 08:57, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Vipuser! Perhaps you might begin to work for launching new project already. If not, you will be happy to read this statement from another board member: "Do it". So now, I think you ask a developer to set a new wiki as on (or if IRC, on #wikimedia-tech) with Anthere's approval; "Do it". (Remark: No other board member show dissent on her comment within a week, though they commented to other mail(s).) Then you will be able to move the materials on New language pre-launch#Chinese(中文). --Aphaia 09:49, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Wikinews policyEdit

I saw this edit summary you left in my sand box Wikinews policy - each wikinews has their own local policy, and it isn't on meta usually. On meta you find a core set, but not all I am just wondering how there can be local policies on approving new language editions? I would think there would only be one shared policy on such a thing. But maybe you mean lnguage groups have their own local policied regarding dialects of the particular group. Please clarify, Thank you. --BirgitteSB 11:55, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your interest.
I don't understand what you mean as "dialects" (linguistic concept?). If so, it isn't the case. I meant each project prepared a core set of policies, but even then, its content could varied (we haven't been forced to synch En version policy, at all), and after the project was launched, they would add some stuffs to policies and hence there is diversity of policies, though some important policies (NPOV, CC, Cite sources, Original reports) would be consisent throughout the project.
As well other projects, each language version is in a different condition. Japanese Wikinews are strongly affected by Japanese jurisdiction, since in most cases there is a juristical-theoritical possibility which Japanese court claims Japanese law must be applied to an issue, but JA Wikinews are hardly possible to be under any other countries, except USA. Such vary local conditions affect each project. For example, En Wikinews allows editors to upload Fair Use images, others not.
In a nutshell, Wikinews pre-launched project has to prepare their policy on meta, but it doesn't mean each project' policy are completely synched.

Even shared stuff at that time will be able to be changed after its launching. So I said, Wikinews doesn't share one same policy grobally, even if it shares many parts of policy throughout the project, as a result, things are not so drastically different from other project, like Wikipedia. --Aphaia 02:07, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Ah OK. I believe you misunderstood what is in my sandbox. I am collecting all polices only about launching new language subdomains. This particular policy is only a applicable project-wide I believe. I will make my comments there more specific. If there is any discussion on about new language policy please point me at it. I did not find anything on my own.--BirgitteSB 03:18, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, nice to hear from you. PR. Checked. --Ascánder 11:54, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! --Aphaia 10:08, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Telex. Supposedly you are (only) active on English Wikipedia. I'd like to notice you this is not a subsidiary of any local project, and has its own rules; here is meta, not English Wikipedia. And here we don't have here 3RR you mentioned. It is nice to suggest other editors to behave nicely, but if you want to mention a certain rule, please mention to rules of meta, not from others which is uncertain to be applied, like 3RR on ENWP. It isn't a good strategy, because every project don't share such detailed rules and some of them, including English Wikinews has no 3RR. Such attention is helpful to keep your words appropriate to the situation, I think. Thanks. --Aphaia 10:08, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Wikimedia Privacy PolicyEdit

Hello Aphaia, sorry for being a little late, I had such busy time at home/work. I have contacted Frieda from Wikimedia Italy about updating the Privacy Policy page to inform her of my work and avoid the possibility of double translations. Thanks for your message, we'll be in touch. Ciao :-) --Mauro 21:33, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Ciao, thank you for your note.
I contacted M/ too and he made a translation, and uploaded it too the Foundation site. Assumedly it would be nice if Frieda checks the current version.
Your idea we are better to avoid the possibility of double translations, on that I agree totally. It would be nice if we establish one of a limited number of channels between the Italian community/chapter on communication, and use such constantly? How do you think which is nice, Bar or particular people? If the contact should be not public including embargoing, contacting a person or a mail address will be nice. If you don't mind, could you invite Italian people too discuss it, and give us, Communications subcommittees/PT / Comcom, which channel(s) you prefer? Ciao, --Aphaia 04:20, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Japanese assistance regarding anime related dvd covers as well as screenshotsEdit

I was wondering if you could relay a message to japanese companies who own the copyrights to dvd covers. They might be willing to release low resolution (below 2000x1000 pixel) images of dvd covers under a free license like CC-BY-SA.

謝謝. So I can leave you all on the Chinese version now ;-) --Aphaia 11:13, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
done! I have updated it on the foundation website! :-)--Vipuser 06:26, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Chapter stuffEdit

Yes, there is a reason why both of those chapters are not mentionned on the official page. At this stage, neither of them is "ocompletely fficially" a chapter. Wikimedia Netherlands still needs approval of its bylaws, Wikimedia UK needs a trademark agreement to use the name and be fully recognized a chapter.

As for the Wikipedia article, if the chapters are to be mentionned, it is definitely not in a Wikimedia Foundation article. Héhé. Chapters are completely independant from the Foundation. If anything, they probably should have their own article.

Thanks for your clarification. As for the Wikipedia articles I think they are still to be mentioned in a modest manner, that is, "Wikimedia Foundation encourage project participants to settle local chapters and work in coordination with existent ones, that is, (list of existent chapters). How do you think? Of course, we need to stress Chapters are completely independant from the Foundation, and it would be nice for them to have their own articles.
A bientôt !--Aphaia 08:16, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Yes, well, I am not a fan of vanity articles. I'd rather wait until some fan of our chapters actually writes those articles. ;-). Bises. notafish }<';> 20:09, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi! Thank you for writing in French (I may correct your sentences if you want a feedback ;). In fact, I'm now involved in the Promotion/Translate sub-commitee of comcom (not officially, though, but is it important? ^^), so I had a discussion with britty (irc) and Solensean yesterday, about what should be translated in French and how. I'm gonna translate the whole content of Home, Press releases, Site map and Contact first. I wasn't aware of, it will of course help me to have it done quicker :) After that, I will certainly translate other pages and keep the French version of up to date.

The translation of the press release about Angela resignation is ready-to-go, but I need Solensean or someone else to move it on the foundation website (really need an account there :p) jd  14:06, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
