Steward requests/Permissions

Requests and proposals Steward requests (Permissions) latest archive
This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.

Old sections are archived by a bot. Click here for a list of archives.

  • If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
  • For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Using this pageEdit

1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:

==== User name@xxproject ====
 |status    = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain    = <!-- such as en.wikibooks -->
 |user name =
(your remarks) ~~~~

2. Fill in the values:

  • domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
  • user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
  • discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser]]").

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreementEdit

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

COPY THE FOLLOWING CODE to the bottom of the appropriate section below:

==== User name@xxproject ====
 |status    = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain =
 |user name =

Administrator accessEdit

See administrator for information about this user group.

  • MediaWiki interface translations are done at Please do not request administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.

  • Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

For permanent adminship, please provide a link to the local community approval. For temporary adminship please state for how long and for which tasks you need it, and link to a local announcement.

We need an admin in Zazaki Wikipedia, who will hep us. Mirzali is cut out for this job, he helps a lot and he is doing a very good job. Vuzorg (talk) 19:28, 6 October 2019 (UTC)

Mirzali is editing the articles of Zazaki Wikipedia for years with diligence and accuracy. As an admin he would be a great help for us other admins. --Asmeno (talk) 20:52, 7 October 2019 (UTC)

Please, start a local discussion and place a link to it here. Ruslik (talk) 08:48, 9 October 2019 (UTC)
Vuzorg, do you have an explanation on what is going on in that discussion? While I think it is valid in general, as there are genuine contributors voting, I also see it being overwhelmed by people who seem to have specifically registered to leave their vote on that page. Was there some call on social media given? In general it is a very discouraged practice. It is absolutely fine if there are few voters, but those voters should be community members. --Base (talk) 02:10, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
Dear Base! This is a new kind of sabotage. Some people don't seem to want to grow up. Where they once used to attack directly and to accuse wrongly, now they apply a new tactic. Unfortunately, this is our dilema for years in this project. I don't want to do any dirty laundry, but to clarify the matter, I have to mention some incidents of the past.
First, there is an admin who has not contributed for years. That's why he was once disempowered by the administration. However, he regained his administrative rights by lying and cheating, addressing the Kurds who supported him.
Second, there is someone who is constantly on riots with us. He uses multiple usernames and makes a mess, though he's not nearly proficient in that language. For that reason, he was also permanently blocked, which ultimately had no effect. Because he still interferes under different names.
Now a few things to me, I am one of the founders who has been involved in this project since 2006. I was also one of the administrators at the beginning. However, I was banished by the administration because I had to deal with the above mentioned persons all the time. Again, they have taken advantage of the support of the Kurds. Not to mention whether the supporters were members or not, was not important to them. The main thing is that they have reached their goal with lies and deception.
I don't know exactly who is hiding among the non-members of the community. Whether this is a game of the above mentioned persons, or even again a participation of the Kurds, I don't know as I said. However, one thing is clear, that they are at work again with their craftiness.
I hope that under these circumstances you will still make a positive decision for me. It's not about my own person, but the project is even more important to me to get on with it. With best regards! -- Mirzali (talk) 10:54, 25 October 2019 (UTC)
The main reason why you was desysoped in the past was the abuse of adminship by you. What have you done to address those concerns? Ruslik (talk) 19:07, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
Dear Ruslik! The duty of an administrator is also the protection of the project. Should I have the project stopped by incompetent people of the language? Not to mention all slander, accusations and insults. I still have not taken it personally. It's just about the further development of the project. Every useful contribution must be considered and used. Nevertheless, each language has its own spelling and grammar. We also have the right to correct the mistakes. This can't be done by alleged Zazas who don't speak the language, nor by the Kurds. And when I made corrections every time, they accused me of abusing my adminship. If this is considered a personal insult or rejection, I do not know how to proceed. With best regards! -- Mirzali (talk) 14:45, 15 November 2019 (UTC)

Greetings, there are no active contributors on the both projects and lots of maintenance work is pending on these two projects. Additionally, to import new pages and block vandal IPs, these rights are required. These projects are flagship projects of Gujarati Wikipedia and RfA was held. Out of 7 active contributors, 5 supported me. Regards,--Harshil169 (talk) 07:20, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

The rights are requested in gu.wikiquote but the link is to gu.wikipedia? Ruslik (talk) 20:25, 26 November 2019 (UTC)
@Ruslik0: There’re no active contributors at both gu.wikiquote and gu.wiktionary. Also for administrator access of gu.wikisource, requests are being done here because gu.wikipedia is parent project. —Harshil169 (talk) 02:40, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
Requests must be always made on the projects where the permissions are requested. Ruslik (talk) 12:48, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
@Ruslik0: Main problem is there are no active contributors who can vote. Here was my request which gained zero votes in 7 days. Also, Sushant savla has requested on gu.wikipedia for interface rights of gu.wikisource and it got approved even. Check and coincidentally you had approved request. Now, if this can't proceed then please tell alternative way to get community consensus.--Harshil169 (talk) 13:32, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
I made an error and probably the permission should be removed. Ruslik (talk) 19:46, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
  • I have some serious concerns about both of these requests. For starters, the lack of edits by the requestor and second, they are fresh off a block (with TPA revoked) elsewhere for personal attacks, misconduct and an inability to resolve disputes in a collaborative manner. This is not what we expect from editors who seek adminship on any project. Praxidicae (talk) 13:54, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
English is my third language and indeed I am bad of communicating in that language. The issue was solved and Gujarati wiki community has voted in favor of me.--Harshil169 (talk) 14:23, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
It is disingenuous to present your block as a language issue. Praxidicae (talk) 14:28, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
With that recent history I don't believe it is appropriate to grant you what could be mis-exercised as sole editorial authority on a project. Vermont (talk) 15:03, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

My administrator access for Mon Wikipedia will be ended on 11 December 2019. I would like to request for extension. Htawmonzel (talk) 10:02, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

On hold until 11 December 2019 Ruslik (talk) 17:45, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

Greetings, User:Sintakso was elected on 03. 12. 2019 03:14 SET, but beaurocrat User:Tchoř did not apply any action for it til now, although he edited on cs.wiktionary 7. 12. 2019, 11:07 and also was pinged. Could someone help resolve this proposal? Thank you. --Kusurija (talk) 11:47, 7 December 2019 (UTC)

Wait Thank you for your initiative. However, please note that the local voting policy (section 26) allows to pass the vote to stewards only after it has not been evaluated by any bureaucrat in at least 10 days. --Sintakso (talk) 12:32, 7 December 2019 (UTC)

Interface administrator accessEdit

See Interface admin for information about this user group.

  • If you are requesting adminship and the interface admin at the same time, you can file one request in administrator section and state you want interface adminship as well.
  • MediaWiki interface translations are done at Please do not request interface administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.
  • Since the end of 2018 all interface administrators are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. Please, enable it before posting your request here.

  • Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

For permanent interface adminship, please provide a link to the local community approval. For temporary interface adminship please state for how long and for which tasks you need it, and link to a local announcement.

Bureaucrat accessEdit

See bureaucrat for information about this user group.
  • In principle, requests for temporary bureaucrat access are not granted.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

CheckUser accessEdit

See CheckUser policy for information about this user group and the policy governing the use of this tool.
  • To request CheckUser information, see Steward requests/Checkuser. This is the place to request CheckUser access.
  • Temporary CheckUser access is not permitted and temporary access is only used by stewards.

Oversight accessEdit

See Oversight policy for information about this user group and the policy governing the use of this tool.
  • To request to have content oversighted, ask for a steward in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect and contact a steward privately. This section is for requesting access to the Oversight tool.
  • For contact details about oversighters across the wikis, refer to this page.
  • Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and temporary status is only used by stewards.

  • When a new user is assigned to this group, please add them to this list.

Removal of accessEdit

  • If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
  • To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted user from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.
  • See the instructions above for adding new requests. Please post new requests at the bottom of the section.

Edgar has had admin removed from his enwiki account per Arbcom decision. Concern has arised about his admin permissions at Commons; a discussion was opened at Commons:AN and the user has agreed to have his rights removed without drama. ~riley (talk) 06:54, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

Now blocked on Commons by Krd ~riley (talk) 07:23, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
I have cublocked the user at Commons, see c:Commons:Requests for checkuser/Case/Edgar181. While desysop formally requires community consensus, I think the ongoing abuse over years on two large wikis requires a global lock. --Krd 07:24, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
I don't think this is how global locks should be used (usually global locks are used for socks, vandalism/spam-only users and any users potentially spreading issues in multiple wikis after local blocks; main accounts should not be locked unless they are ongoing disruptive xwiki that can not be handled by local blocks). A global ban may be considered if new issue occurs (but not now).--GZWDer (talk) 10:22, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
Had it been more unambiguous resignation I think it's pretty fine to act on (not that I will — Commons is one of my 'homewiki') I am honestly not sure if that is a resignation or just 'eeek screw it, do whatever you want' situation. — regards, Revi 09:22, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

Miscellaneous requestsEdit

Requests for permissions that don't fit in other sections belong here. Importer rights can be granted on most wikis by stewards only. Please gain local community consensus before posting a new section here.

Note that the following types of permissions requests belong on separate pages:

  • SRB — Local or global bot status
  • SRGP — Global permissions

Is for the Importer rights. Thanks Vorlod (talk) 12:17, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

Is it for temporary or permanent? — regards, Revi 10:30, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
@-revi: It's for permanent rights. Regards, Vorlod (talk) 11:27, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
It seems that you want to import pages from other projects: Is it within Wikimedia? Given that you are sysop, you can make use of Special:Import to import directly (called transwiki-import) from other wikis without touching XML (which is super duper hyper sensitive -- for the reason that you can change the attribution of the edit which is hard to notice) I can help you making that possible from e.g. enwikiquote, enwiki, etc etc. — regards, Revi 12:02, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
@-revi:The rights allow me immediately to import models from Wikidata while keeping the allocation of contributors, unfortunately the import tools does not support Wikidata. Otherwise, I have already used the import tool with XML files on another wiki using MediaWiki so I should get there (normally) . --Vorlod (talk) 12:16, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
It can be made to support Wikidata. Do you want me (as an individual, not a steward tho) to do that? :P — regards, Revi 12:17, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
Yes, you can. :D --Vorlod (talk) 12:24, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
