Ratification of the Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement GuidelinesEdit

Dear Wikimedians for offline wikis,

The drafting period of the Universal Code of Conduct project is coming to a close. Thank you for your interest and for the valuable participation during the entire process.

After working with community members to develop a set of enforcement recommendations and receiving approval from the Wikimedia Board of Trustees, the UCoC enforcement guidelines will be up for ratification, in March, with voting running from Monday, 7 March 2022 to Monday, 21 March 2022. Everyone in the movement, including affiliates’ staff, are invited to participate.

Voting will be done using SecurePoll. We would like to kindly ask you to encourage your staff members to vote. Voting is important to capture thoughts about the enforcement of the UCoC policy and to help find a way forward with the UCoC. Anyone can refer to the following guidelines to make sure they can understand the proposed enforcement structures. Everyone is of course encouraged to vote as they choose.

Every vote makes a difference, and the results will help decide how to proceed, so please consider participating.

We will send a reminder when the voting is starting.

Regards --TCappelletto (WMF) (talk) 21:22, 21 February 2022 (UTC)

Invitation to Hubs event: Global Conversation on 2022-03-12 at 13:00 UTCEdit

Hello!

The Movement Strategy and Governance team of the Wikimedia Foundation would like to invite you to the next event about "Regional and Thematic Hubs". The Wikimedia Movement is in the process of understanding what Regional and Thematic Hubs should be. Our workshop in November was a good start (read the report), but we're not finished yet.

Over the last weeks we conducted about 16 interviews with groups working on establishing a Hub in their context (see Hubs Dialogue). These interviews informed a report that will serve as a foundation for discussion on March 12. The report is planned to be published on March 9.

The event will take place on March 12, 13:00 to 16:00 UTC on Zoom. Interpretation will be provided in French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, and Portuguese. Registration is open, and will close on March 10. Anyone interested in the topic is invited to join us. More information on the event on Meta-wiki.

Best regards,

Kaarel Vaidla
Movement Strategy

Discussion in the frame of my board member candidacy.Edit

Hello Wikimedians for offline wikis, I'm here to start a conversation with your group concerning my board candidacy. Lionel Scheepmans Contact (Fr-N, En-3, Pt-3) 19:01, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

Farah Jack Mustaklem (Fjmustak) Board CandidacyEdit

Thanks to the Wikimedian for Offline Wikis UserGroup for reaching out to me about my board candidacy. As mentioned in my candidate page, I’m a Wikimedian from Palestine, mainly contributing to the Arabic and English Wikipedias and Wikimedia Commons since 2005. I am a founding member and former treasurer of the Wikimedians of the Levant User Group, and a member of the Arabic Wikimedians User Group. I’m a former Affiliations Committee and was Wikimedia Strategy Steering Committee member and currently on the Regional Grants Committee for Africa and the Middle East. Professionally, I am a software engineer working in the field of data analytics. I’m also an advocate for digital rights and open knowledge. Coming from the Global South and living there for most of my life, while also being educated and living in the Global North for a considerable period of time, as well as being bilingual at a native level in Arabic and English, gives me the unique position of understanding issues pertaining to underrepresented regions and having a global worldview.

While I have not been greatly involved with offline wikis myself, I am supportive of the work your group is undertaking to coordinate the efforts to ensure free knowledge is easily accessible to as many people as possible, and which especially benefits those with no or limited connectivity to the Internet.

I will be glad to answer any questions you may have regarding my candidacy. --Fjmustak (talk) 13:37, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

THOUGHTS FOR BOARD ELECTIONS ( WIKIMEDIA BOARD OF TRUSTEES)Edit

Thanks a lot to the Wikimedians for offline wikis for reaching out to me concerning my Board Candidacy. I have served as a mentor, facilitator, and community lead and also provided technical support to multiple Wikimedia underrepresented communities and volunteers specifically in Africa. I do look forward to extending a helping hand to other underrepresented communities globally.

For the past few months, my main focus has been on localizing Wikimedia tools and projects in other to contribute to resolving some of the demanding issues related to underrepresented communities globally. One of my objectives is to collaborate with technical communities and Wikimedia affiliates in other to come up with better tools to support multilingual free knowledge across all Wikimedia projects and contribute to the resolution of Wikimedia global issues.

Based on my past experience in public policy and the law, my purpose in applying for this candidacy is to contribute to the implementation of policies that are in-line with the movement strategy implementation and the global council in other to ensure there's equality for all.

Please do feel free to reach out to me via my talk page regarding any questions or clarifications.

Best, Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk). 00:10, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
