Science Photo Competition
editHi,
were I can learn more about Science Photo Competition?--Juandev (talk) 19:08, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
- Dear Juandev,
- I apologize for the delay in replying to this post. At the moment there is very little information about the competition available in English (see the page on English Wikipedia). For further information please contact Ivo Kruusamägi, who is the organizer of the event! Best regards, --Kaarel Vaidla (WM EE) (talk) 11:30, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
WMCEE Spring Menu
editHi, I'm glad that you have done tempalte WMCEE Spring Menu. And can I ask you to make this motley parts of WMCEE Spring Menu in only one color? For instance, #ffd700 could be fine and it would be fit in with background behind header. What do you think? Marycha80 (talk) 23:47, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
Dear Marycha80, thank You for being engaged with WMCEE Spring event! Providing article lists about Poland has been most helpful! Thank You!
On the other side I do not completely understand the idea of having less colors on the project page. I personally think that colors used on the page are not disturbing reception of contents and are making the page look more attractive. Nevertheless, I will start a discussion on the talk page of the project and am looking forward to further opinions about page colors. If different formatting of the menu will increase the usability of the page, I am certainly for the needed changes (and I also do not mind others changing the menu template).
Thank You for sharing Your opinion and for trying to make the project page better! --Kaarel Vaidla (WM EE) (talk) 12:36, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
- IMO the grey in the menu is too boring. But something soft could be nice. Marycha80 (talk) 17:33, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- Thank You Marycha80 for Your opinion! Do You have any concrete hex code in mind? Best regards, --Kaarel Vaidla (WM EE) (talk) 17:37, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah, could you look at this: [1] and tell me what do you think? Marycha80 (talk) 17:40, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- But highlighting in gold is IMO very good option :) Marycha80 (talk) 17:42, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- Dear Marycha80, thank You for sharing Your menu template! I agree that the color used is more interesting than the grey one. Nevertheless, it seemed that white text is not readable on light yellow and thus I changed the text color to black. What do You think? Best regards, --Kaarel Vaidla (WM EE) (talk) 17:52, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- And try instead of black use that previous grey to letters and "Idea" field...? Marycha80 (talk) 18:09, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- Not bad. It also seems more reasonable to have such discussion on the talk page of the template, so maybe we will continue there? :) Best regards, --Kaarel Vaidla (WM EE) (talk) 18:17, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Grants panel
editHi Kaarel. Would you be interested in participating in the Grants panel at the CEE conference as a panelist? --FiliP ██ 04:17, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- Dear FiliP, as the funding session was one of the sessions I planned to attend anyway, I can join the panel if You think it would be appropriate. Is there anything I should prepare for participating on the panel? Best regards, --Kaarel Vaidla (WM EE) (talk) 07:20, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
- I don't think there's need to prepare in any sort of official way. Just bring your experiences with you :) See you soon --FiliP ██ 12:11, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
Inspire Campaign on content curation & review
editI've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.
All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:39, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

Translation
editHello. Sorry to bother you, but I don't know who to contact. I need to address an important message to et.wikipedia, with regards to Admin activity review/2015. But the messages on Admin activity review/Notice to communities and Admin activity review/Notice to inactive right holders are not translated to estonian. I've tried to contact translators, but there's none subscribed via Special:TranslatorSignup for estonian. Could you please help translating those simple messages into Estonian, or have anyone you know do it? Best regards. —MarcoAurelio 11:17, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
- Dear MarcoAurelio, thank you for reaching out! I have provided a quick translation and will see if there are people interested in proofreading and/or signing up for future translations. Thank you once more for your kind attention! Best regards, --Kaarel Vaidla (WM EE) (talk) 12:08, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for participating in Learning Day, Wikimedia Conference 2016
edit
Thank you for engaging at Wikimedia Conference 2016 Learning Days!
editThrough June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.
Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,
I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 17:47, 31 May 2016 (UTC) (Opt-out instructions)

editHello! The Wikimedia Foundation is asking for your feedback in a survey. We want to know how well we are supporting your work on and off wiki, and how we can change or improve things in the future.[survey 1] The opinions you share will directly affect the current and future work of the Wikimedia Foundation. The Afrikaans Wikipedia
editHi Kaarel. I trust that you are well. I have been active on the Afrikaans Wikipedia since 2009 and have created 10418 articles and done 181000+ edits since then! The Afrikaans Wikipedia is the biggest African Wikipedia currently with 104662 articles and 69th biggest of all the Wikipedias. In short, we are a giant on the African continent! I have done some pioneer work for the Afrikaans Wikipedia: the first Afrikaans speaking person to attend a Wikimania Conference 2016 in Mexico City and the first Afrikaans speaking person to a German Conference as well: 2016 in Berlin.
The Afrikaans Wikipedia, grammer wise, has nothing in common with other African Wikipedia's. The Afrikaans language is a deravitive from Dutch, Flemish and to a lessor extend German. Politically the Afrikaans Wikipedia is ignored by the rest of Africa, you will not see our Wikipedia been mentioned on any of the African FB groups, not invited or involved by them or given any recognition. The situation is aggrivated by the South African politcal history, 99% of Afrikaans editors are white. We have now reached a stage were we cannot worry about this anymore, we are moving on by ourselves - creationg content (articles) day by day! Nobody can stop us.
I do serve on the WikimediaZA chapter but is up against all the other South African language Wikipedia's. They are simply is not growing.
Why I am writing to you: the Afrikaans Wikipedia would like to build relationships with the German and Dutch Wikipedia - the Afrikaans Wikipedia has requirements as well! I would have loved to attend your 2022 Summit, only learned of it today and watch you video on YouTube!
For the record: Ich sprechen ein kleinen bichen Deutch! I had German as a third language for 2 years at school and it helps me to get around your country with ease. Remember Afrikaans is close to German.
I would like to get an answer from you.
PS Good luck with the Summit. Oesjaar (talk) 07:18, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
