Please correct MediaWiki:Centralnotice-template-wmftou2023

Hi! You've published a message that reads "The Wikimedia Foundation is updating our Terms of Use". Please change 'our' to 'its' so that the pronoun agrees in number and person with the antecedent compound noun 'Wikimedia Foundation', which is third-person singular. If you're determined to use 'our', please find a way of making the subject of the sentence first-person plural – something like "We, the Wikimedia Foundation, are changing ...' might work, but it is not better. This is stuff that a six-year-old should have no difficulty with. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:16, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

@Justlettersandnumbers suggest you bring this up at CentralNotice/Request/Wikimedia Terms of Use update 2023 - ping in User:RStallman (WMF). — xaosflux Talk 21:24, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

How to edit global.js?

Hi!
I told a user (from dewiki) a small javascript snippet which he could use in his global.js.
But to my surprise he's not able to edit his own global.js.
I could not find any information about this: When is a user allowed to edit their own global.js?
I'm able to edit my own global.js, but I don't remember whether I had to do anything before that.
(Additionally I thought: Hey, ok, no problem, I can do that for you, because I'm admin at meta. But it seems that's not enough. Probably one has to be interface admin.) -- seth (talk) 20:54, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

What error message (if any..) do they see when they try to edit m:Special:MyPage/global.js? — TheresNoTime (talk • they/them) 23:24, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
"There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, or search the related logs, but you do not have permission to create this page."
-- seth (talk) 23:35, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
!? what's their username? — TheresNoTime (talk • they/them) 00:10, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
Hi!
Ok, i asked the person to try it again. Now it works. Maybe there was some kind of SUL problem, because the user was not logged in correctly. So: problem solved.
Your first question helped, because it suggested that normally there should not be a problem.
Thanks for your time! :-) -- seth (talk) 10:01, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

I'm requesting for importer rights on meta to enable me import articles from Wikipedia for WRN letter. I would be glad if given the rights Sir Amugi (talk) 15:11, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

For reference: this comes from Steward requests/Permissions § transwiki for Sir Amugi@Meta for transwiki import (not xml import) rights. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 15:17, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

  • What is "WRN letter" and what articles need to be imported for it from where and why? --MF-W 22:46, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
The Wikimedia Research Newsletter (WRN) covers research of relevance to the Wikimedia community. It has been appearing generally monthly since 2011, and features both academic research publications and internal research done at the Wikimedia Foundation. The Wikimedia Research Newsletter provides monthly updates on recent academic research about Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.I am happy to be a volunteer for that if given the transwiki right. @Masssly @Dnshitobu @Musahfm Sir Amugi (talk) 05:01, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
  •   Support @MF-W: The WRN is drafted on Wikipedia as a section in The Signpost, then moved to Meta and cleaned up for the Newsletter. -—M@sssly 05:29, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
Strong support @Sir Amugi is an experienced social media manager and will be a best fit for this. Dnshitobu (talk) 09:15, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
Strong support I can vouch for his hard work and commitment to assigned tasks. Granting @Sir Amugi transwiki import rights would therefore be a beneficial addition to the work of WRN in particular, and WMF in general. Musahfm (talk) 08:51, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

FYI: RfC filled about making global abuse filters more global

Hello!

There is a set of global AbuseFilters maintained by Meta-Wiki's administrators and the Stewards. Global abuse filters are a powerful tool designed to fight against long-term abusers that operate cross-wiki. It is especially useful (and often irreplaceable by other means) when a cross-wiki LTA starts to rapidly change IP addresses (when that happens, regular blocks are significantly limited due to the IP hopping).

As of today, all small/medium Wikimedia projects (as-determined by number of articles) are automatically subscribed to global abuse filters. They are not, however, enabled on several Wikimedia projects classified as large (except several large Wikimedia projects who opted-in, such as Wikidata). This makes it possible for global long-term abusers to vandalize a project with no global filters enabled, which makes it significantly more difficult for the Stewards to fight against the abuse.

By this message, I'd like to let you know I submitted a global RfC, where propose enabling global abuse filters on large Wikimedia projects as an opt-out feature. This change will make global abuse filters an even more effective tool for combating long-term abuse at the global level. Please feel free to participate in the RfC.

Thank you for your time,

{{$wg}}

Should this template be renamed to a proper name? The current title show for me:

400 Bad Request

nginx/1.16.1

I have to visit https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:$wg to see the correct template which looks like unfriendly. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 04:54, 21 March 2023 (UTC)

Migrating to the new version of AddMe

If you participated in the Community Wishlist Survey 2023, you were a tester of the new version of AddMe! There were some notable hiccups during the survey, but with all of that fixed, I'm ready to take this to the next level and replace the old version of AddMe with the new one. I am formally proposing this here. It looks like several wikis have copied this gadget, as part of the replacement I was going to encourage those communities to source the new version directly from here. This will be similar to what I did for MoreMenu/Migration. Locally, the only thing really effected is the Wishlist Survey and uses of {{Probox}}, namely the grants program and pages under Learning patterns. No functionality will be changed, just a fresh new gadget to serve the same purpose (that is, simply clicking a button to add your signature to something).

The gadget is available for testing now if you'd like. Look for "AddMe-v2" in your gadget preferences, and refer to Meta:AddMe/v2 for documentation.

Are there any objections or concerns? If not, I plan to tackle this migration over the course of the coming weeks. Thanks and warm regards, MusikAnimal talk 21:07, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

@MusikAnimal: Thank you for your note. No objections from me as long as the issues identified are fixed. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 22:57, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
