Description - This campaign aims to promote the Wikidata Community Survey by the Wikidata Development Team at Wikimedia Deutschland. The survey explores contributor demographics and experiences to better understand community diversity and the various ways to support their needs.

Metrics - We conducted a shorter version of the survey in 2021, which received about 900 responses. For this survey, we don't have specific metrics but are aiming for 500 responses.

What banner(s) will you use? What will be your landing page?

edit
Banners - The banner (currently in development) will include a brief survey description, links to different language versions of the survey, and a privacy statement wiki page link.

Demographics

edit

Can someone describe what categories or levels of demographics will be collected in the survey, if any? (Country, Job Role, etc.) or maybe better yet, provide the privacy page link now that describes what demographics are being proposed to collect? --Thadguidry (talk) 15:25, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your feedback @Thadguidry. The privacy statement page text, which includes background information about the questions, is currently under review. We will publish it soon at Wikidata:Usability and usefulness/2024-Community-Survey and send a notification to the Wikidata mailing list.
In the meantime, I can share that we plan to ask for the following information: country, native language/language most fluent in, age group (in 10-year increments), gender identity, employment status, and highest level of formal education completed.
All questions, including demographic ones, are optional, and the survey is anonymous by default. Results will only be published in aggregated form. Details about data handling will be included on the privacy statement page and in the survey's introductory text on the survey platform. - Mohammed Abdulai (WMDE) (talk) 16:23, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Astinson (WMF): @Astinson (WMF):, the image I provided was just for visual purpose, the code was also shared in the request and I also provided links to images used (uploaded on commons already). Additionally, the alternative is to change the landing page to the Bootcamp metapage and then participants can follow the process to apply on there.

Please if the banner code I shared won't work, we are very okay with a simple banner. Edriiic (talk) 13:54, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Description -

WLS logo

The sixth edition of Wiki Loves Sport (July 17th - September 22th) is organized to improve and extend content related to diversity in sport in the Wikimedia projects, and for this year event it covers in particular:

  • Euro Games Vienna (from 17 to 20 July).
  • Paris 2024 Olympic games (from 26 July to 11 August).
  • Paris 2024 Paralympic games (from 28 August to 8 September).

Given the gaps which is our topic of interest, the campaign is mainly focused on content concerning missing or underrepresented groups in sport (so a special focus on women's sport, LGBTQIA+ communities, para athletics, indigeneous and minorities etc), but as Wikimedians, we appreciate any sports-related content in any language you want to add.

Seeing the affiliate's goal of increasing the diversity, whoever writes +5 articles about female & non-binary athletes and/or binary & non-binary para-athletes, will receive a barnstar and a digital certificate from the main organizer WikiDonne.

  • @Pyb, Luc Hervier WMFr, and VIGNERON: I've created the campaign and banner (preview). I'm a little bit confused by the long campaign duration; usually we only approve campaigns for two to four weeks. In the banner text, I can also read about the contest time between 15 August and 27 September—why is it necessary to start the campaign on 1 July? I've reduced the diet to 5 displays every two weeks at max. Please clarify, take a look at everything and ping me for activation. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 09:48, 9 May 2024 (UTC) PS: Nice to see that you my massmail system was mentioned in one of the PDFs. There is another new tool available now, maybe take a look at this one too.[reply]
@DerHexer: yes, the campaign for the banner is long because the contest is long. We also would like to let people know in advance ; especially as with summer vacation the traffic is a bit lower and also to give the opportunity for people to take pictures in advance (some events that are in the scope of the contest happens only during summer).
Displaying it less often could be a solution, maybe we can also start a bit later (July 15 for instance ?) and ends a bit earlier (20 September) and increase a bit the diet?
Feel free to ask all the questions you need. Cheers, VIGNERON * discut. 10:39, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with DerHexer that such a long campaign period is not ideal – especially as the campaign targets both logged in users and readers (who cannot opt out of banners). Running it with a reduced diet might be ok though. Note that per CentralNotice/Usage guidelines#Campaign implementation long campaigns usually require community consensus. Johannnes89 (talk) 11:02, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@VIGNERON: I've changed the duration accordingly. Are you okay with the white background? I had to change it because the white background of the logo didn't look good on the general grey background of the banner. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 16:31, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Banners - Hello, @DerHexer:! How are you? Here's the information for the Mais Diversidade campaign banner.

The overall design could mirror that of the Mais Povos originários banner, which looked great! There are just a few changes:

Instead of the logo, we'd like to use an image of the wikicontest's prizes, which you can find here. Do you think it's possible? Additionally, the background color should be changed to #8153D6.

Text1: Participe do Concurso de Edição Mais Diversidade em Teoria da História na Wiki, entre os dias 11 de outubro e 11 de novembro de 2024, e contribua para visibilizar conhecimentos dissidentes. Font: Open Sans Light, size 24, black.

Text2: Inscreva-se aqui. Font: Open Sans Light, size 29, white. For the box, the color is #5ED5ED.

As you probably noticed, the instructions are pretty similar to the Mais Mulheres' banner, just different background colors, image and text. Maybe using that one as reference when it's done would make the work easier! Again, thanks a lot for the help! If you have any doubts, please contact me.

See CentralNotice/Request/Mais Mulheres em Teoria da História na Wiki/2024#Discussion, the requested font size / amount of text / image size is likely too large for this request as well. --Johannnes89 (talk) 14:44, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, @Johannnes89:. Can we shorten the main sentence to “Participe do Concurso de Edição Mais Diversidade em Teoria da História na Wiki e contribua para visibilizar conhecimentos dissidentes.” What do you think? I'd like to point out that we're also going to include a MetaWiki landing page in this banner, but we haven't created the page yet. I'll post it here soon. Thanks in advance. Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+) (talk) 18:15, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+): yes of course we can change the landing page link at a later point. I've created the campaign [1] and the preliminary banner [2] (Preview [3]). Please review everything to make sure it's alright. Looking at the mobile version [4] on a smartphone I think this banner should use less text. --Johannnes89 (talk) 06:25, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Ammarpad and T Cells: Global campaigns are a nightmare to program for us. The table on Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos 2024/Participating Communities is a good first step, but it consumed a lot of my time to find out the “Philippine languages”, find the right language codes for a couple of languages (Setswana -> Tswana -> tn.wikipedia.org), etc. All in all, I tried my best so please check everything with care!
Some further remarks: We cannot enable the campaign globally as requested because that could make trouble with unaffected countries (e.g., a German campaign organized by the Austrian chapter should only target German-language Wikipedia in Austria because Wikimedia Austria might not be able or interested in covering activities in Germany, Switzerland, etc. as well). For that reason, I have limited the campaign to the participating countries (except for Czechia who requested their own campaign).
Another problem is that we neither have translations available for the banner text (except for Italian which I've included although a two-sentence translation causes some problems with a one-sentence original text) and landing page (about 5 out of 48 languages). I have added a note to the banner that people should help with translations, but usually we only enable campaigns when translations are ready (I'd say at least 50 % should be available). Please reach out to your contacts as soon as possible and have them provided translations at least for the banner and also as fast as possible for the landing page. Until I will see some progress here, I cannot enable the campaign.
Here you can find the campaign, banner and preview. As said, please check everything, approve it and ping me about the progress with translations so that I can enable the campaign. Do the same when new languages or countries show up. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 18:04, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your help, DerHexer. It's much appreciated. Could you please provide a direct translation link of the CentralNotice banner? Something like this in 2021. Thank you. T CellsTalk 18:25, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DerHexer, Just a quick update: translations for the banner have been completed, and the landing page is being translated. Thank you for your help. T CellsTalk 20:50, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@T Cells: Thanks, I have marked the trainslations as published. Please check the campaign and banner (preview) and let me know when I can enable the campaign. I think that it makes sense to wait some more hours so that work on the translations of the landing page can progress, but it could be enabled now, in my opinion. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 21:11, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Everything looks fine. I trust your judgement. We should wait for more hours and it could be enabled tomorrow. Thank you so much. T CellsTalk 21:32, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

:) --Johannnes89 (talk) 11:24, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Wnme: Kurzfristige Anfragen, tsts. Und dann auch noch ohne korrekten Ping. ;)

// Martin Kraft (talk) 20:27, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ab eurem GO. :) Grüße, Martin Rulsch (WMDE) (talk) 09:10, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bruna Grando (Projeto Mais+) I've created the campaign [15] and the banner [16] (preview [17]). As you can see the requested font size is way too large (and/or it's too much text). The problem gets worse if the banner is displayed on mobile devices. Using an image that doesn't take so much space (e.g. square shaped) would probably help as well. --Johannnes89 (talk) 14:41, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Olá,@Johannnes89:. Thank you for your feedback, but for some reason I can't see the preview. Can you check, please?--Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+) (talk) 09:54, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+) perhaps try this one [18]? --Johannnes89 (talk) 16:55, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, @Johannnes89:. Can you make the letters smaller so we can see them better? I think maybe size 22 for the larger text and 27 for “Inscreva-se” might work. Please feel free to make them smaller if you see the need. Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+) (talk) 14:50, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+) and Bruna Grando (Projeto Mais+): that doesn't help much. It's ok when changed to 19px for both the larger text & button text [19], but still pretty bad if you open the banner on mobile [20] (and the majority of readers uses mobile devices). The banner text should contain less characters and/or the text size should be reduced even more (like your banner from 2022 [21]). Alternatively you should consider using an image that doesn't take as much space (e.g. like this banner [22]) which would allow for more text to be used. --Johannnes89 (talk) 15:52, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, @Johannnes89:. If you shorten the sentence to: “Participe do Concurso de Edição Mais Mulheres em Teoria da História na Wiki e contribua para fechar lacunas!” is that better? I think that should solve the problem. Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+) (talk) 16:37, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Should be ok (preview [23], mobile version [24]). Mobile version is not ideal yet (depending on the device) but probably acceptable. --Johannnes89 (talk) 10:58, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, @Johannnes89:! I think it's good now. I've made a small change to the request by changing the Landing Page link to the event page in Meta. Can you make this adjustment? Thanks again for all your help! Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+) (talk) 15:34, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+): done [25]. I assume we can basically take the same banner for CentralNotice/Request/Mais Diversidade em Teoria da História na Wiki/2024? Please check the second banner request if you can provide a shorter sentence for the first line of text, just like you shortened it for this banner as well. --Johannnes89 (talk) 17:38, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, @Johannnes89:. Perfect! Yes, we can use the same logic for Mais Diversidade. I'll get back to you soon. Thank you very much! Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+) (talk) 18:11, 6 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I've enabled the campaign, starting on the 26th of June as requested. --Johannnes89 (talk) 06:03, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, @Johannnes89:. Would it be possible to change the start of the banner to June 20th? Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+) (talk) 10:18, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We'd like to continue the campaign from last year (request). The banner will only be running for two days before the first Wednesday of each month, and will be targeted to users with less than 100 edits. Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 08:24, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@DerHexer you handled this last year right? Do you have time to coordinate again? Ciell (talk) 18:51, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, Jon organized it himself. I hope that he will do it for this year again. ;) And as far as I know, they want to reuse the campaign of last year. —DerHexer (Talk) 19:13, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, missed these messages. Yes, I can handle it myself. :-) Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 15:33, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
