statement (Not more than 450 words) About me:

My professional experience has always been related to management and leadership. I started by creating my own company working in the field of culture, then I was invited to work with large European retailers and multinational corporations from France and Sweden. in parallel with my personal projects in the cultural field. from 2019 I am working with cultural associations in Algeria collaborating with UNESCO to promote the material and immaterial heritage. I start an organization in Algeria the Citizen Inventory of Heritage where I am a co-founder and CFO. I have specialist degree and a Ph.D. in management from the University of St. Petersburg.

I was born in Asia, I grew up in Africa, and I live in Europe and I live between these three continents (I feel like a son of the world). I am a founding member and manager of Wikimedians of Tamazight User Group and head of communication at Wikimedia Algeria since 2014. I am an active member of the community with various contributions to Wikimedia projects since 2010. I have organized and led several Wikimedia projects in the last few years. I support all communities, mostly indigenous languages. I have organized with my group several Wikimedia contests. I presented several projects at several conferences around the world about Wikimedia, in 2018 I did a small presentation about the Wikimedia movement at a UNESCO event in Tunis.

I speak French, Arabic, Russian, Tacawit, and work in English and I'm learning German. I work for developing African and indigenous languages, in 2019 I was able to start the creation process of the Tacawit Wiktionary (the first language community to found itself on a project other than Wikipedia). I was in the organizing committees of WikiIndaba and WikiArabia. I am also a member of Wiki Indaba Steering Committee and a Former member of the Affiliations Committee.

About my goals:

  • As an active member of the community at the international level, and with my personal experience, I know that we can do better. many affiliates (especially user groups) cannot receive grants to meet their needs and struggle day and night to exist. This problem is very common in all open-source movements. The big challenge will be to find a solution to help all volunteers around the world to do their work promoting our movement, especially where access to our resources is difficult.
  • More diversity in the movement, we always say that we have a diverse movement, but in fact, we still have to work on it, especially on gender and minority groups.
  • My biggest dream is for our movement to live in non-politics so that all peoples, countries, genders, cultures, religions live with the sole purpose of promoting free knowledge. if we can accomplish this, then by doing so we will be able to fulfill several points from sustainable development.
Top 3 Board priorities 1. Guarantee equal treatment for all Wikimedia movement without exception. Initiate new activities that aim to reduce and eliminate inequalities in the movement

2. Finding a solution to the problems that have arisen with the financing of certain affiliations recognized by the Foundation

3. Сreate new partnerships where none exist and accompany people from the movement to work with them.

Top 3 Movement Strategy priorities 1. More diversity of skills and knowledge in the governance of the foundation. to solve problems that are paused or ignored.

2. Spreading the movement where it does not exist, to attract new competencies, and help those who exist to grow and develop.

3. Provide for Safety and Inclusion for all who need this.

Wikimedia experience. The candidate is a dedicated contributor to the Wikimedia movement. Eligible contributions include: contributions to the Wikimedia projects, membership in a Wikimedia organization or affiliate, activities as a Wikimedia movement organizer, or participation with a Wikimedia movement ally organization.

10+ years: I have been a Wikimedian since 2010. I was in several roles from filemover and transwiki to admin. And I am at the origin of the creation of the wiktionary in Tacawit.

Board experience. The candidate has served on the board of trustees/directors or other similar governing body of a nationally- or globally-focused organization (non-profit, for-profit, or governmental).

5-10 years: Apart from my experience as a board member of 2 Wikimedia affiliations from 2014 and 2018. I was also since 2 years the CFO of an organization in Algeria the Citizen Inventory of Heritage, which works in the sector of the preservation of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage. And I have also served as a trustee of Association Arts et Patrimoine d'Alger.

Executive experience. The candidate has worked at an executive level for an organization, department, or project of comparable (or greater) size, complexity, and scope to the Wikimedia Foundation.

5-10: for 3 years I was the Head of the department of a Swedish company established in Russia, I had about 120 employees under my supervision. My work was to analyze sales reports, financial statements, and oversee the general activities that make up the mission of the company. And being CFO of my co-organization I do the same thing, but the budget is smaller compare to the Swedish company that I have worked for.

Subject matter expertise. The candidate has worked or significantly volunteered in an area relevant to the work of the Foundation and the Board. Such areas will be determined on an annual basis and may include areas such as Global movement building and community organization, enterprise-level platform technology and/or product development, public policy and the law, knowledge sector (e.g., academia/GLAM/education), human rights and social justice, open Internet/free and open source software, organizational strategy and management, finance and financial oversight, non-profit fundraising, human resources, board governance.

5-10 years: Usually I always work in education volunteering. In Canada with the North African diaspora and with the Zerfa association, we organized courses in the indigenous North African language, which then helped us to have contributors in our Wikis projects. Then with Wikimedians in Russia, we wrote a book (Wikipedia. Introductory course), where I am a co-author, for university students in Russian. The book itself is based on the MOOC that I did in collaboration with other Wikimedians in Algeria for the Arabic-speaking community in 2018. more than 10,000 users have finished these courses. Since the beginning of this year, I co-animate and co-organize a series of conferences in Algeria in French and Arabic, which work for the promotion of the Algerian heritage (let's dream Algeria). the conferences were launched after the appeal of UNESCO against cultural terrorism.

Diversity: Background The candidate belongs or belonged to a group that has faced historical discrimination and underrepresentation in structures of power (related to, for example, gender, race, ethnicity, disability, LGBTQ+ identity, social class, economic status, or caste).

Yes: I am of Amazigh (Berber) ethnicity and during a generation, the power which was established in north Africa represses these people, especially at the level of the language and identity. It is for this that I am a minority language activist. Tamazight languages are in danger as is cultural identity.

Diversity: Geography The candidate would contribute to the overall geographic diversity of the Board of Trustees, based on the geographic regions where they have lived.

Yes: I was born in Kazakhstan (Asia), I grew up in Algeria (Africa) and I work in Russia (Europe) and in Dubai. Very often I come to Germany because I have my maternal family is there. In general, I live between Algeria and Russia.

Diversity: Language The candidate is a native speaker of a language other than English.

Yes: Classic Arabic, Algerian Arabic, French, Russian, Tacawit.

Diversity: Political system experience The candidate has substantial experience living in and/or working to share knowledge in a non-democratic, state-censoring, or repressive context.

Yes: in an Algerian non-electoral political party Mouvement Jeunesse Éveillée (Awakened Youth Movement), I served as responsible for the movement's external relations for one year.
