Admin Abuse
editYann, A group of editors and admins refuse to allow a balance of material and links. Gamaliel, Robert McClenon, Jpgordon, JamesMLane, and a few others now own the pages. Any attempts to modify the page is met by thier gang edits. They allow only links to pro kennedy sites, none to negative sites regardless of the wealth of content they may provide. They push their pov on all of the Kennedy pages. It's because of editors and admins like these that Wikipedia is doubted as a source. ie; the New York Times published policy against Wiki as a source. The group refuses to agree to consensus when it is against them. I've now been blocked by Jpgordon in an abuse of admin priv. My act was not vandalism, it's simply not agreeing with their one sided pov. I am not willing to endure any more arb or mediation. These guys are out of control. 24.147.103.146 05:45, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

Deuxième version du contrat à Wikimedia and Mandrakesoft (2nd draft agreement), plus élaborée. La question DVD/CD n'est pas à la charge de Foundation dans cette version. villy 19:42, 13 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Hi,
I'm sorry to say so, but I'm currently in the process of completely rewriting the Wikinews page as outlined in this mailing list post. I'm afraid the translation will have to be updated after that is finished.--Eloquence 21:54, 14 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Wiktionary stats
editHi, thank you for your updating of Wiktionary. Could you make a sum of words on all Wiktionary? I think we need to update details in Wikimedia:Our projects on WMF site too, and the number of total words is required for this purpose. If you update WMF sites Translation requests/WMF/Our projects/En:, you will be very appliciated. --Aphaia 08:45, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Macedonian wiki on start page
edit- Could you add Macedonian wiki on Www.wikipedia.org_template which is mk:, its been a time that it has enough articles to be there. Lincher 22:33, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Because i don't know who i should ask for that, i ask you. Could you make changes to the front Www.wikipedia.org_template so it reflects the Complete list of language Wikipedias available page. Meaning that both pages have approximately the same number of articles and reflect the same order of wikipedia (1st to 10th). Thank you in advance Lincher 04:27, 12 May 2005 (UTC)

Permissions
editHi Yann, i de-sysopped Robin Patterson from sm.wiki. Seems there's some objection from another user. I think is better if we try to understand what's happening. See here. Also take a look at this. Do you think is better to remove his rights also on mi.wiktionary?
Regards, --Snowdog 21:45, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Seems Node is indeed a bit trollish, on the other hand seems to me (judging from his contributions) that Robin has a limited knowledge of that language. I don't understand why he wants to be an admin there. I left him a message anyway, hope this won't start a flame. --Snowdog 23:44, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Slightly active
editTo be inactive means that nobody ever does changes to the wiki, but wikis that have articles even if it is only 1, might have been created in a not so long future as rendering this wiki inactive that is why these wikipedias are slightly active. Plus, when updating the wikis, it is easier to do the list of slightly active than the inactive one which is updated once a month or so. I think it is better the way it is because if a wiki seems to be active people come to it. Just a little remark to wikis with big numbers that aren't modified anymore like bengali, souldn't they be put to the inactive wikipedias, no, because somebody was once active in it. Wiktionary template
editHi, I left a note on the www.wiktionary.org template a while back after the Ido wiktionary reached 10000 articles asking to put it into the search box; now it's nearing 20000 and still not there. Multilingual portal
editHi Yann. When you update Www.wikipedia.org template, could you do it by copying across from Www.wikipedia.org template/temp, as that page is generally kept up to date and checked regularly to see which languages are missing or need promoting etc, whereas the protected one is updated a bit at a time when someone notices part of it needs changing. There are also a few other fixes on the temp page, such as the markup conforming to XHTML 1.0 strict. Thanks in advance. Trilobite 20:30, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

Wikizine
editHi, I am w:nl:gebruiker:Walter of the dutch Wikipedia. I am writing you because your are listed as ambassador of your wiki (Wiktionary FR, GU, HI). I have something to say that I think you will find useful and possibly others of your wiki also.
You know it is not easy for the members of a local wiki to be informed about what is going on in the higher levels of the Wikimedia family. This because of the language problem and the high level of fragmentation of places where you can find information.
I am now making a weekly news letter (Wikizine) that attempts to provide the news of the Wikimedia projects. The concept is to list only a very short description of the news an give the relevant url to the subject. I want it to be short, only give the news that is important for all projects. The target audience include the ambassadors. It is for people who are interested in what it going on outside there own wiki. I emphasize on the news that is practical-technical. The information comes form several "news"-pages on several wikis, the mailinglists and IRC. There will be news I can not discover. If you have news found somewhere or from you own wiki please let my know. wikizine AT wikipedia.be
I can only create one version in something that supposed to be English. I count on the readers to inform there local wiki about the news in there own language.
Wikizine is send by use of the mailinglist Announce-l. It is only used for this. So people can subscribe without being swamped by emails like the lists.
http://mail.wikipedia.org/mailman/listinfo/announce-l
I hope that you and others of your wiki will subscribe to Wikizine and give feedback. So that Wikizine can become really a source where Wikimedians can find out what is going on. Greetings, w:nl:gebruiker:Walter PS: do not repond here. I will not see it.

Semi-protection
editI'll leave this message on Wikipedia as well, but I wanted to make sure you got this. At Wikipedia:Semi-protection policy, a couple users and myself are attempting to gather consensus about a possible change in editing. So as not to keep the community out of the loop, we've been posting to user talk pages, which seems to have worked. If you can add your thoughts to the talk page, it would be greatly appreciated. We've gone over a few issues, ranging from perception of anti-wiki to time limits, and recycling pagemove code, so you might want to check out #Rehashing to get up to speed. Thanks in advance, Mysekurity 21:58, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

kl.wikipedia.org
editHi Angela, there has been some vandalism on the Main Page for kl.wikipedia.org, there is only one sysop there (Danny) and he does not seem to response. Could you lock the main page? It would still be possible to edit the page because it only contains a Template:Main Page. b. regards Quackor 15:08, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- I'm not too keen on protecting it since there are no active admins, and it would be off-putting to anyone who wants to develop this wiki. I've asked Danny to keep an eye on it since he's an admin there. I'll also ask Node-ue to watch it since he tries to monitor the inactive wikis. Angela 09:36, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
Protection of the page of Bulgarian user The Engineer
editHello Angela, I saw your explanation on the talk page of user The Engineer in Bulgarian Wiki. Sorry if it is rude but you've used a weasel term in it: "... number of members ...". How big this number is and of which users you've got a complaint. There is the user Emil in a personal conflict with him, and The Engineer is accusing him in being backed by an administrator and a founder of Bulgarian Wiki - Petko (admin ID Потребител:5ko, "pet" means five in Bulgarian). While I cannot accuse user Petko, I can assure you that user Emil is having conflicts not only with The Engineer (even I had to recall my ambassador).
Please make clear statement based on what you went for removal of adminship of The Engineer, and protection of his pages. The Bulgarian Wiki community is too small to waste any editor, and is among those who lost editors instead of getting more onboard. Bulgarian Wiki also is decreasing its pace. Right now I am not asking to reinstate the admin access but protection without clear, verifyable explanation is not good.

Requested check of use of checkuser rights
editAngela, Today I was kicked off and banned from the #Wikipedia IRC channel by Kelly Martin. If you want the details of why, I am quite willing to explain, but I don't believe it is central to the point at hand. I have reason to suspect that Kelly Martin may have used her checkuser rights in order to identify what account I was using on IRC #Wikipedia, as no one else was booted off the channel prior to my being booted. I've never identified my IRC nick with my Wikipedia nick prior to this incident. With 200+ users on the channel, such accuracy in booting me seems...suspect. I would like a check to be done to determine if Kelly Martin ran a checkuser request against my en.wikipedia.org ID "Durin". I believe in your role as a steward you are capable of running such a check. Thanks in advance, --Durin 21:22, 5 December 2005 (UTC) (cc: Daniel Mayer, Anthere)
- You may ignore this request. It has been clarified to my satisfaction. --Durin 23:45, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

editThis user made a request at the English Wikibooks about becoming an Admin on the Maori WB. Someone made the suggestion of forwarding this to a steward, so I thought I'd just let you know (if someone already hasn't). There doesn't seem to be much happening over at mi.WB, so I'm not sure what you can do. --Lord Voldemort 15:15, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- Asking on Requests for permissions would be better than asking any steward directly. --Angela 00:08, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Translation of Interface into Bahasa Melayu (Malay Language)
editHi Angela, I have just translated fully the interface for the Malay language Wikipedia. Although the language was started on 12 August 2003, the interface was only partially translated.
I am unable to understand the guidelines given in MediaWiki localization. How do I go about making a patch and then submit? — PM Poon 21:04, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
- Are you an admin on that wiki? If so, translating using the MediaWiki namespace would be a quicker way of doing this. Do you have a way of getting files from CVS? It's hard to explain how to do this when I don't know what system you're using. Angela 00:08, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
test links regarding Interwiki map
edit- Hallo Angela! I found the following prefixes for wiki's at Wikicities at Interwiki map:
- If bugzilla:04285 – "provide accessibility of Wikipedia's sister projects trough wikipedia: interwiki prefix"
- would be implemented one could reach wikicities:furry: (or at least with wikicities:furry:Main Page), wikicities:games: (or at least with wikicities:games:Main Page) and all other Wikicities wiki's. Now these links generate "Bad title's". The only need to add Interwiki's would be to make them shorter. Bests regards Gangleri | Th | T 23:53, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
Please, Mega Troll possibility needs to be looked at here
editI am coming to you because there is nowhere else to go with this. I fear a mega troll has been able to so firmly entrench himself within wikinews with meatpuppets and sockpuppets that he has obtained virtual control of the site. Now he is attempting to expand his power into Wiktionary. [2]. He simply uses his authority and extreme time availability to wear down and force contributors who are in his way off the site. He has also managed to drive a wedge between Admins and non-admins (basically forming a club-like clique among admins) to the point where a reasonable Rfda; [3] fails with 6 admins opposing and 9 non-admins supporting the Rfda. Amgine's dedication toward prioritizing group loyalty is manifest with this edit of his; "Your approach to Wikinews, in my opinion, is focused on articles. This is a common approach, but probably not the most valuable. I suggest you reconsider that Wikinews is not about articles, but about developing and maintaining an online community; the articles are secondary. - Amgine / talk 14:53, 23 October 2005 (UTC)". Amgine also uses multiple signatures leading to different sites and one that leads nowhere.
The administrative abuses are historical fact and are listed below and although the "troll" accusation is based on circumstantial evidence; I am also showing it at the bottom. The section below is from [4]
- Here are the examples of administrative abuse. Amgine has had multiple long lasting disputes with many editors with Neutralizer being the most recent and intense. Amgine has not hesitated to abuse his admin powers by blocking/punishing editors like Neutralizer who disagree with him; even though wikinews guidelines clearly state that an admin should NOT block an editor with whom they are having a dispute (they should, instead, allow a different admin. to apply any necessary blocks to that editor). It now seems that the wikinews contributors can not get rid of Amgine no matter how hard they try; Amgine is able to deflect and explain away his misdeeds in a fashion that puts Shakespeare's "Artful Dodger" to shame. You may expect that he will become increasingly accusatory and employ vicious attack methods to get what he wants. Re Amgine; its a lot easier to get him in power than to get him out of power. Fair Warning !
- Amgine displayed his arrogance by summarily rejecting the resolution, suggestions of a mediator, Ilya (a wikinews Bureaucrat) after a mediation. "I do not accept your suggestion that I limit my administrative privilege use either to "vandalism or very clear violations of objective policies only, and to explicitly let some other admin deal with Neutralizer" or "submit a self-de-admin request." [7]
- Dan100's list.[8] of Amgine's "bullying and poor behaviour" (Dan100 is an admin.[9] in good standing at wikinews).
- Apparent vendetta blocks:
- A shows 4 of the spurious blocks Amgine levied against Neutralizer which were all later rescinded when other admins got involved [10].
- B shows the last block against Neutralizer done after Amgine and he clearly were in conflict
- 02:13, 6 November 2005 Amgine blocked "User:Neutralizer" with an expiry time of 6 months
- Admin abuse; blocking Ed Brown for 1 month [11] 04:27, 11 December 2005 Amgine blocked "User:Edbrown05" with an expiry time of 1 month ; Amgine soon withdrew that block as he claimed a "software problem" had been the cause of the unjustified block. This time selection of 1 month for a long standing good contributor like Edbrown shows an abusive use of blocking
- talk page blanked and frozen by Amgine ( in the middle of ongoing disputes with this same person) [12] This is especially interesting as he did it just one hour after the talk page was made to prioritize the question of whether Amgine and another admin. are the same person.[13] As you can see below (6); Amgine has no problem accusing others of being sockpuppets but when he stands accused? Hell; just delete the evidence.
- More Disruption by Amgine; not assuming good faith:
- Amgine accused vonbergm of being a sockpuppet; "I do not have reason to believe you are not a sockpuppet."[14]
- Just a few days ago he accused Edbrown of being a sockpuppet[15]
- Additional "Troll" indicators
- 1. Enigma = Amgine backwards
- 2. http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/User:Amgine says “left the project”
Help for Malayalam
editHi Yann,
I don't know if it is the best place to ask this doubt. I am a Bureaucrat with Malayalam Wikipedia. Numbers displayed in Malayalam Wikipedia are not understood by most of the people who use it eventhough it is in Malayalam itself. The sad irony is that no one in Malayalam uses Malayalam digits at present(൦, ൧, ൨, ൩, ൪). They insted use Arabic digits ( 1,2,3...). Hence most of the users need the numbers to be displayed in Arabic or universal digit system (1,2,3,,,,.)
When we use number of articles temp the result displayed cannot be understood by the readers!. I tried to find out from where these digtis come?. Is there any way to change the default settings. I thought you could help me....

Permissions
editHi Yann
I saw you removed my sysop permissions at mo.wikipedia citing a complaint, but I didn't see a link to a complaint. May I request a reference to the complaint against me?
Also, for what it's worth, despite what you may have heard, I was elected by a majority mo:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/Node_ue.
Cheers. --Node ue 19:15, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, Yann, I'm well aware that I can't block users just because they disagree with me. Believe me -- there have been plenty of people on mo.wiki who disagreed with me, and I didn't block them.
- This particular user had just registered 2 or 3 days ago, and had been moving dozens and dozens of pages, and replacing their entire content with copy of articles from another Wikipedia.
- [16] - uhm, is your name Mark Williamson by any chance ? --KappaXi 02:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- What is your point? He had no regard for wikisyntax -- tags such as [[imagine:...]] don't work at mo.wp, so he broke all images. --Node ue 20:40, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- My point ? You said the user was copying pages from "another wikipedia", that's what you've been doing all along, your own words, not mine. --KappaXi 21:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- What is your point? He had no regard for wikisyntax -- tags such as [[imagine:...]] don't work at mo.wp, so he broke all images. --Node ue 20:40, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- [16] - uhm, is your name Mark Williamson by any chance ? --KappaXi 02:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- He didn't discuss it beforehand. When confronted, he did not stop to discuss it.
- AFAICS, you were the one being contacted, and you were the one not replying. --KappaXi 02:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- What? I responded to him. Apparently you don't see it? He never responded to confrontation about moving pages. --Node ue 20:40, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- AFAICS, you were the one being contacted, and you were the one not replying. --KappaXi 02:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- He was also very rude, and the reason I put for blocking him was "repeated personal attacks".
- Where ? I see about 4 of his messages on your talk pages, all unreplied. And when you accuse people, be specific, saying "He..., I..." means nothing if you don't prove it with facts. --KappaXi 21:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- I can see you saying to him "You're improper", two times, you were asked to appologize, instead of doing that, you repeated your insult. I can't help but notice you accusing him of suckpuppetry with continuous harassment on that matter. Unfortunately, attacks (not even mentioning "repeated") on you are nowhere to be seen, would you mind being an ounce more explicit ? --KappaXi 02:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- And who are you, "KappaXi"? I told him he was mistaken, why should I apologise when he said the exact same thing to me??? He personally attacked User:Russ when he told him he had no right to edit on mo.wiki. I never directly accused anybody of sockpuppetry and even if I did, it's hardly a personal attack.--Node ue 20:40, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- And surely since you know moldovan(romanian) so well you must know the difference between "Tu te gresesti" and "Tu esti gresit", don't you ? As for sockpuppetry, see [17] and [18] with your continuous implies "I know who the sockpuppeteer is but I won't tell you who", even though it has been later checked with a negative result. --KappaXi 21:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- And who are you, "KappaXi"? I told him he was mistaken, why should I apologise when he said the exact same thing to me??? I never directly accused anybody of sockpuppetry and even if I did, it's hardly a personal attack.--Node ue 20:40, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- Despite such bad behaviour, I only blocked him for a duration of 3 days. I would not block a logged-in user for any longer than that because the issue of blocking on mo.wiki and apperance of impropriety has been discussed before. Also, I value free speech, and prefer to block somebody only for small times as a warning, so that they can still come back and discuss the issue at hand.
- Really ? So now the blockings can be done with no replies, no comments, no nothing, just because you think so ? Sounds sort of, you know, undemocratic ? --KappaXi 02:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

- Hold on, let me have a look. Ok, just had a look at the conversation, the user told you that in constitution of RM it says that moldovan language is written using latin script, you replied (in your usual "proper" language) that yes, in the constitution of RM, but not in the "Constitution of Moldovan People" (what is that, by the way ?). There's absolutely nothing that I can see on his or your talk page with you warning about moving pages before you banned him, if you disagree, give a direct paste, I want to see that. --KappaXi 21:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

- Really ? So now the blockings can be done with no replies, no comments, no nothing, just because you think so ? Sounds sort of, you know, undemocratic ? --KappaXi 02:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- Anittas (guy who voted against my adminship) is not, nor has he ever been, a contributor to mo.wiki. He said a few things on talk pages, and voted there. And his reason for voting against me was xenophobic in addition to incorrect (he voted against me because he thought I was Russian, which I am not). His history on the English Wikipedia is less than exemplary. --Node ue 01:25, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
- And since you keep that pretence of being democratically elected, would you mind elucidating us as to what is with this page: [19] and why is Jeorjika and not you, clearly the winner there ? As for Annitas, well, Chris's vote shouldn't count either, he did not make any contributions except the vote. So it's merely Ronline who voted for you (and see the previous link on wikipedia-l, Ronline saying that although he supported it, the whole project is a failure now). So far how many votes, one, democratic elections you say, hardly. Judging by your talk pages on other wikis I'd say your behaviour is intolerable, you've been told many times, wikimedia is not a playground for inventing languages. I particularily like AdiJapan's response to your personal attacks on your en.wiki talk page, read that again. --KappaXi 02:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

- What an answer, so much attention to all the details. Don't forget the other wikipedia you got desysopped from, that's what happens when you claim to know a language without knowing it. Better move this conversation to your meta page, no point in cluttering Yann's. --KappaXi 21:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

How to nominate a user for sysophood?
editHello Yann,
- I am Harshal from Marathi Wikipedia. Currently I am sysop for the site. However I am unable to give my time regularly and hence I would like to nominate अभय नातू (Abhay Natu) as admin. Can you please guide me through this process?
- Thanks.

Harshalhayat, I already granted yesterday permissions for that user after his request at RfP and "community approval". --Romihaitza 18:19, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
desysoped
editSysop en:Mikkalai had used his admin power to block a contributor in an outrageous attempt. Sysop en:Mikkalai engaged in an edit war, then he blocked the opponents. The blocked user made only a single edit [[20]]. Still en:Mikkalai didn't reached consensus and was asked to stop the edit war [[21]] by two other users. Still he blocked the user en:user:86.106.51.95. There was also posted a notice on http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia%3AAdministrators%27_noticeboard&diff=36558375&oldid=36557182 Wikipedia Administrator's noticeboard a message that concludes very good the bad behaviour of sysop en:Mikkalai. The reason given by mikka is "blocking with an expiry time of 24 hours (offense)". Still there is not an offense in the edit [[[[22]]. Why didn't explain sysop en:Mikkalai what is the offense that he thinks it is?
There is one more important aspect: en:Mikkalai is well known for having Anti-Romanian feelings, he was even blocked once for that reason: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=block&user=&page=User%3AMikkalai.
A desysoped should be just fine. Let the people free of this en:Anti-Romanian contributor.
Admin abuse
editI was blocked indefinitelly on false accusations that I am user:Bonaparte. Please check and do the proper measures against Sysop en:Mikkalai. I see that is not the first case in which users are blocked by this sysop and no measure have been taken to stop his abuse of power. He uses his sysop power to block innocent people. editHello Yann, we need your powers once again to de-sysop three admins on our wikipedia, I hope you don't mind :) Two of them are burocrats (Is this a problem actually?) There was a long vote since more than one month about this matter and most of the active people were with de-sysoping them. The vote took place because they were absent for a long time and rarely used their powers. You will find the vote here. I wrote an extra note in English "De-sysoping the admin" to make it easier for you. Another question: Isn't there any possibilty to give the diffrent wikipedias these de-sysoping rights locally?

Stewards on IRC
editHi, I am posting this to the talk page of all stewards. I am user:Walter, steward. It came to the attention that it is for users who urgently need the assistance of a steward it is not always easy to find one. I am posting this to ask your help to try to improve our service to the community.
The best hope I believe for a user to find a steward is IRC I think. There is a channel for the stewards , #wikimedia-stewards but there very few stewards there mostly if any.
So my first request is that when you are online and have time to also open the channel #wikimedia-stewards That can easy and even automatically depending of your IRC-client. Two suggestions; Gaim, you can add IRC-channels and users between your MSN, Jabber and other contacts. Very easy to use. Or chatZilla, more a real IRC program.
You can also use a webbased solution. Can also be useful when you are not at home. The IRC gateway I have setup will do its work for this purpose. http://chat.wikizine.org.
Finaly; You have your real name, your wikimedia user name and some have a totally different IRC name. I have created a new column on Stewards#Active_stewards to fill in your IRC-nick , if you are on IRC offcource. I have already filled it in for some who I know.
This request is not personally direct to you but to all stewards in general. Not everybody needs to be in that IRC -channel. If you know the channel exists that is already a very good start. Greetings, --Walter 20:53, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Yann,
I don't know whether you remember or not, but i was the one who asked for your help about this issue. Whatever, i'm gonna cut chase. Since that day you're listed as a sysop over there (as can be seen here). It's not a big deal of course, but i thought you'd want to know.

who will check it?
editHi Yann. I am -jkb- from wikisource.org and cs.wikisource etc. etc. as you know. My question: the cs.wikipedia had (and has) some troubles with some very active spammers and trolls but also people, who try to make damage to it. Wikisource is surely not the place, where such people normally try to do so, but as I was involved in these discussions in the past, so I think sooner or later they could feel to visit also the Czech wikisource. In this case: If there is a need to judge some IP addresses etc., who is the check user in the cs.wikisource? I think I would need a name of somebody, who is responsible for it here, or, if there is nobody yet, so I would like to apply for it. What do you think about this problem, and what do you suggest? thx for your answer (here is OK), -jkb- 22:09, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

"Your user name or IP address has been blocked by Deprifry.

You may be able to contact Deprifry or one of the other administrators [23] to discuss the block, or e-mail the admin who blocked you using the "e-mail user" link on their user page. Cspurrier; Wikinews Bureaucrat; misusing Bureaucrat and Checkuser authority
editIt's impossible to RfDA him because he has hijacked the RfDA process on Wikinews with unilateral striking of RfDA's and striking of votes.
Cspurrier has systematically been pushing anglo-american pov on wikinews and systematically pushing away editors who do not share that pov.
Infractions;
1; Reinstating an RfDA against User:PVJ59 unilaterally (no consensus) after the nominator of the RfDA withdrew the RfDA.[24]
2; Misused Checkuser against Blueliner who was accused of no misbehavior and then PERMANENTLY banned her and struck out her vote based upon circumstantial checkuser evidence(same IP range).[25]
3; Falsely accused Tohstsalstuen of being a sockpuppet and struck out his vote.[26]

Moderator requests help
edithi, I'm one of the three moderators on the breton language wikipedia (you can reach me here[27] or via e-mail: jstefanlari@yahoo.com) and we've got a bit of a problem at the moment. I'm sorry to bother you but I'm not really sure who else to turn to - we have no stewards on our language. I highly suspect that one of the users who has recently been actively trolling is the holder of two accounts. This in itself is not a problem, what is a problem is the fact that both account holders have now taken part in a vote and, given the small number of active wikipedians active on the project, this could actually tip the balance of the result. The actual result itself is unimportant, however, it would not be fair for one person to vote more than once. so my question is:
- is there anyway for a moderator to be able to compare the IP's for separate user accounts?.
I would really appreciate a swift reply, because the trolling situation is really getting out of hand and if I could demonstate ill practice in voting I could safely put a stop to the trolling by blocking both user accounts.
Thank you for your time (I can read French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan and, of course, Breton)--Neal (Breton wiki moderator)

Request for Montenegro wiki
editHey Yann,
Just wanted to see if there's another way to see if these votes don't count, besides checking their IP. I mean, I could call all of my friends in the city and tell them to vote there and then, but the votes don't count, do they? I mean, all of the accounts were made in a very short period of time, and they all voted within a short period of time, on the same request, in the same way. Coincidence? I think not :)
Well, if there's anything you can do to shed some light on this mystery, please do contact me :)

FYI steward-status
edit- [Stewards] - a new steward election will be held soon. The most likely date for the election to start is 25th of November. This date can still change. Like it is now all existing stewards will need to reapply if they wish to remain steward. The rules of this procedure are still under discussion. All existing stewards and interested users for the function of steward can best apply as soon as possible.

Moldovan wikipedia
editHello Yann,
I must thank you for desysop User:Node ue on Moldovan Wikipedia one year ago. Now, regarding to your last edits on Mo:Wiki I don't agree with you. There were a valid vote here Not only that I got support for being sysop there by 6 persons but I was blocked by Epure who was sysop for only 4 hours! See here Now you made sysop a german Pill even if we have a romanian sysop Bogdan. Can you explain yourself? I want to be unblocked now on Mo:Wiki and to be sysop according to the results of the vote. You simply cannot come there and impose your POV.
Best regards,
--Fratele lui Bonaparte, il cunosti? 07:54, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- 1) You were a vandal. Userpage vandalism is well-documented.
- 2) Pill is a temporary sysop to clean up the mess you left behind and make sure you don't come back.
- 3) The vote was not valid -- all voters who voted for you were either vandals, IP votes, or had no edits in the main namespace. You had 3 votes against you. Also, users with a history like yours will never be sysop.
- 4) Yes, he can go there and impose his POV. He is a steward. --Node ue 09:34, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

editBounjour Yann. I've been asked to remove sysop rights for Pill@mowiki. This is my reply to the requester [28], just in case he will come back asking you about it. Bye. --Paginazero - Ø 09:24, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Bounjour Yann. I kindly asked mo:User:Pill to drop it. 3 times I tried to tell him is not good what he's doing. He was not nominated by community, he can't communicate with us because he does not know the language and I asked Paginazero to de-sysop Pill here[29] since Pill does not meet the criteria. He removed valid polls, he removed petition against him, he blocked innocent users that speak Moldovan. No, we don't need such an Admin. I'm now candidate to be Birocrat, Administrator and CheckUser. There is an important poll right now and I have the support of community.--Смирнов 12:17, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
What are you doing on mo.wp? http://mo.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&target=Yann You put yourself against community. How come we can't make polls? Pill blocked me on mo.wp --Смирнов 18:10, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
What do you mean here by "fair election"? So, after you it's very fair to have Pill as admin which is not 1) elected, 2) supported 3) accepted by the community , 4) does not speak the language. Good job Yann!--Смирнов 18:47, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- I was very frustated because you decided to change the rules during vote. That's not fair. It's not fair also that Pill is not a gentleman and leave for now mo.wp after he made a mess there by abusing his rights. We expect him to announce his withdrawl. He was asked politely. --Смирнов 19:50, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Mo
editHi Yann,
I see that you also became entangled in the affairs on Mo and stopped the admin vote that was taking place. I can understand why you did it, the entire situation was completely chaotic with unauthorized new requests popping up, puppets and anons ravaging the place, etc. But unfortunately that's not even an anomally on the Moldovan Wikipedia. That encyclopedia has two states: complete inactivity and brief spurts of total warfare when something of any significance takes place. So, frankly I don't see how the situation will improve to a sufficient extent to permit normal elections to take place; if there will be a drop in vandalism, that will only be due to a new lack of interest, but that will change as soon as a new vote is arranged. In the interim there will be continued destruction of whatever is left of Mo (and I have to say that not much existed in the first place). Although Pill is doing a good job with trying to keep things under control, considering the circumstances, his inability to speak the language hampers his ability to discern real vandalism and legitimate edits (and not too many of those exist) in the encyclopedia, so in most cases the edits pass by. Unfortunately Bogdan, the other admin of Mo seems to have completely given up on it, as he hasn't shown up in quite some time now. I think the best way to bring some normalcy to the situation would be to let the vote resume as quickly as possible so that there will at least be one admin who can make take into account the content of articles and edits. I am not saying that you were wrong in closing the vote or that it should be reopened immediatly, I am just saying please don't let this pause drag on for too long, just let a vote finally take place so hopefully things will change. Thanks. TSO1D 19:14, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- Don't misunderstand, it is also my opinion that there must be a sysop who understands the language, as many other small Wikis should have, too. Unfortunately, there seems to be no suitable user who wants to do the job and would be elected by the community; trolls are not good sysops, no matter whether they are native speakers. At the moment, biggest part of the community is not able to make a fair vote, but I agree with you that new elections should be made as fast as possible. If a candidate does not understand one word of the language, he is not a good sysop, but on the other hand I don't think that native language skills are required. Greetings, —Pill δ 19:41, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- You were asked politely to leave. What are you wating for? --Смирнов 19:51, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Yann, I believe your decision to stop the elections on mo.wp was appropriate. Unlike Pill and TSO1D above, I don't think there is any hurry to restart those elections any time soon. The reason is that, at least at present, there is no user on mo.wp who is active, capable and willing to contribute in any significant way. Those two candidates (Epure and Smirnov) proved countless times that their intention to provide a healthy environment on that Wikipedia is zero. Their interest in the project is most probably motivated politically -- one from the Russian side, and the other from the Romanian side.
I suggest we check the state of things on that wiki every now and then, and only if and when there will be an active editor (but preferably several) who proves his fairness, ability and dedication to the project, only then should we organize elections again. AdiJapan 00:44, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- That's what I meant :-) —Pill δ 14:14, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Questions for the Wikipedia Signpost
editHi! My name is Ral315, and I'm the editor-in-chief of the Wikipedia Signpost, a weekly newspaper on the English Wikipedia. I'm sending out an optional questionnaire that I hope you'll respond to. These questions will be published in next week's issue, and hopefully translated into many languages and copied to the Meta-Wiki prior to the election. (So, if you speak multiple languages, it'd be fantastic, though certainly not required, if you'd be willing to translate your answers into any languages you speak fluently.)
There's no word limit on any of these questions, but I suggest that brevity (maybe about 300-400 words per answer) is best. If at all possible, answers should be submitted by 16:00 UTC on Monday, June 25 (though late responses will also be accepted).
I'm posting these to your talk pages because they don't really fit well on question pages (since many will repeat questions you've already answered). You can reply to me by e-mail, or at my English Wikipedia, English Wikinews or Meta talk pages.
Thanks again for answering these, and good luck in the elections.

A question about adding Wikislavia to spam list
editHi, this reference indicates that you have added Russian-language site Wikislavia with close to 100,000 encyclopedic articles to the spam list. Could you please clarify this incident? Did any of the users/administrators/stewards ask you to do this? If so, who was that and what reasons did he/she provide? I appreciate your answer because we would like to improve Wikislavia's content. SA ru 20:37, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Being responsible for the Wikislavia content I am ready to get off all the articles which may be personal attacks but actually I do not know any article in Wikislavia which may contain such a things. We are preparing ask this in the Spam list talk page but firstly we have decided to ask the steward.--Yaroslav Zolotaryov 22:14, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Especially this is important when Russian academician Khutorskoy stopped his activity in Russian wikipedia because they prohibited him to have link to Wikislavia from his user page. --Yaroslav Zolotaryov 22:26, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- I am an administrator on the Russian Wikipedia. I believe that Wikislavia must be left in the spam blacklist because this project is used for hosting attack pages on Wikipedia participants. Also, some users constantly spam links to Wikislavia on the pages of Russian Wikipedia trying to raise their search rankings. You shouldn't trust Sa_ru, he has got kilometer-long block list on the Russian wiki [30], [31] --Kartmen 22:57, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- Please give links to those attack pages, and more than 30 diffs about mentioning Wikislavia in ruwiki (I think 10-15 liks are not spam, when they use it when it is necessary to mention this site). Yes, there are some people in Wikislavia who are not satisfied with ruwiki - but when such a site is added to spam list, many people think that this is attempt to exile such users from ruwiki - this would be bad for Russian Wikipedia when more and more users are persecuted. Please see hwo many articles have written Smartass for the Wikipedia, until they begin to harass him, and he leave for Wikislavia. --Yaroslav Zolotaryov 23:27, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- To make things clear: I personally (yes, me, me) requested adding Volgota (so-called "Wikislavia", a Siberian nationalistic and xenophobic site) to spam blacklist on IRC channel #wikimedia-stewards for hosting repeated and very severe personal attacks towards many ru.wikipedia users and for repeated spamming different user talks and special pages with links to "Wikislavia" promoting users to leave Wikipedia ("which is not free") ad to participate in "Wikislavia". This is the same case as with Traditio, a nationalistic site which was blocked also due to massive personal attacks towards ru.wp users. And I announced that I'll go to #wikimedia-stewards and ask for adding Volgota to spam-blacklist on our #wikipedia-ru channel, and was widely supported by our respectable admins Kartmen, Kalan, Ingwar_JR, stassats and others. And on #wikimedia-stewards I was publicly supported by Datrio (who was familiar with previous analogous case, with Traditio,ru), and Yann just technically added the link after clear consensus was demonstrated. Regarding links with personal attacks, see for example [http://ru.volgota.com/index.php/АПЭ:Юмор:Эпиграммы_на_википедистов] or [http://ru.volgota.com/index.php/Камингаут_в_Википедии], [http://ru.volgota.com/index.php/Гомоблокировка_в_Википедии], [http://ru.volgota.com/index.php/Гомодебилизм_в_Википедии] and many other articles, including those directed personally at me and Maximaximax: [http://ru.volgota.com/index.php/Вотяков,_Максим_Владимирович], [http://ru.volgota.com/index.php/Беккер,_Роман_Александрович].
For those reasons, i strongly ask to keep the Volgota in the spam-blacklist indefinitely. Rombik 07:03, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- As it is obvious from the preceding message, the initiator of the request User:Rombik is in the business of insulting other users, not us. He has been filling the discussion pages of ru.wikipedia.org with thousands of negatively charged messages similar to the one he wrote above. I will skip responding to the nonsense that Rombik wrote about Wikislavia content, just a few comments on the selected articles. Some of the articles that Rombik seleted from the total of wikislavia 100,000 articles are humoristic articles of Absurdopedia kind, others are biographical sketches about himself and another user (both significant personalities in our opinion). In fact, Wikislavia presents biographies of many participants of Wikipedia and other wiki-project based on the information available on their personal pages through GNU FDL. Wikislavia does not censor any encyclopedic additions, so User:Rombik can correct any information that he considers inaccurate. From the list of wikipedia admins that he presented, we had a conflict only with Kalan, an administrator who, in our opinion, is in the business of violating Wikipedia policies. There are other ru.wikipedia.org administrators who violate the policies, and this is exactly where the block list comes from. To give you an example of rule violation, I was recently blocked from editing ru.wikipedia.org by User:Torin for making 2 assumptions (not even statements, merely assumptions): (1) user Rombik requested that Wikislavia is added to the spam list; (2) the steward who responded t Rombik does not speak Russian. The first assuption turned to be true, and excuse me if I am wrong in the second assumption. In any way, User:Torin has been violating Wikipedia rules for quite a long time, and there are others of his kind in ru.wikipedia.org. I am not familiar with User:Kartmen, so I will not make comments on his statement. Wikislavia is a wiki-project that is free like Wikipedia, and in actuality it has more freedom because it follows inclusionist policies. (By the way, we have a collection of articles on gay rights and gay activism, including the materials from Rombik's project on wikia.com.) The statement that Wikislavia placed spam in Wikipedia is absolutely false. I know just one episode in which a user's page (this user is by the way a member of Russian Academy of education) was modified by User:Kalan for making a single reference to Wikislavia. There are absolutely no reasons for placing Wikislavia in the spam list. The steward was mislead by User:Rombik. SA ru 20:31, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- In fact, when we include Absurdopedia-like content, we mark it as "humoristic article", and those articles were marked too. By the way, Russian Absurdopedia contains hundreds of articles which may be considered as abusive by homosexuals, Ukrainians, Jews, communists, etc, etc, by many minorities. But nobody adds Absurdopedia to the spam list. I suppose that user Rombik simply want to develop atmosphere of persecutions in Russian Wikipedia, when even the largest alternative site to Ruwiki (Wikislavia will make more articles than Wikiznanie very soon, Wikiznanie is almost dead, but Wikislavia prospering, and many people support it because they see in ruwiki such activists like Rombik) is added to spam-list. --Yaroslav Zolotaryov 20:40, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- Actually personal names are removed from the page [http://ru.volgota.com/index.php/АПЭ:Юмор:Эпиграммы_на_википедистов] which contains poetry who somebody may find abusive. As to me I do not know why somebody may be harassed by poetry because in Russian culture it is definitely percieved as joke, and there are many similiar joke-poems in Russia, this is part of our life just like anecdotes. When we removed all the personal names from it, so where are personal attacks now? These are verses about some problems of Russian Wikipedia, not about persons. The other links also have not personal names. Articles about Votyakov and Bekker are neutral, without any personal attacks, info was taken from their user pages. --Yaroslav Zolotaryov 20:30, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- The steward should also be aware that User:Rombik at some point was caught in using meat puppets in voting. There is an Arbitration Committee decision about that, and there is also a rumor that similar meat puppet strategy was applied when User:MaxSem was elected a steward. It is very strange that the decision to include an 100,000-article wiki site into a spam list was made based on a complaint from a single user who does not even have credibility in his community. SA ru 00:20, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- P.S. Based on this discussion, I requested a removal of Wikislavia from the spam list. SA ru 00:58, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Bot flag on meta
editHi, I would like to get a botflag on meta for my bot User:Computer but am uncertain what process to use for this request. The bot would fix double redirects and preform commons delinking. Granted meta does not need a whole lot of bot work but I feel the bot should be flagged anyways. -- Cat chi? 12:59, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

2007 Steward Confirmations
editHi. This is a semi automated notice so my apologies if it seems a bit impersonal. You're listed as holding the Steward permission. As you know, Stewards get reconfirmed yearly, and it's that time again... I noticed that you haven't yet filled out your statement at Stewards/confirm. If you'd like to learn what the community thinks, please visit the page and put in your statement. Volunteers have been busily translating statements already. It would be best to do this before November 26, as that is when the page is opened for public comment, to coincide with the elections of new stewards. If you would like to not be reconfirmed and have your name removed, you can remove your section, or ask a volunteer to do it for you. I hope this information helps. If you have any questions or comments, there is ongoing discussion at Talk:Stewards/elections_2007. Oh, one last thing, if you already knew about it and just hadn't gotten round to it, apologies for the reminder! :) ++Lar: t/c 04:41, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Vandelism in hindi wikipedia
editIn Hindi wikipedia sysop hi:user:Rajeevmass had blocked a member (hi:user:vkvora2001) to prevent vandelism ,now he(the blocked member) is making new account each day with names as hi:user:Wiki123 ,hi:user:Wiki116,hi:user:Wiki120 and so on .He inserts nonsence text daily in random 20-30 articles to irritate users.Mostly his text contains abusive language against sysops .We dont know how to stop him .Kindly help. When i asked the similar question in en.wikipedia'village pump i got answer to use checkuser . I tried to understand that ,when i saw your name in the m:Stewards list with hindi language known i became happy that atleast i got somebody to get help from.
- I blocked for a week the IP range this user uses. Yann 15:49, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
one more thing from where can i request to remove those sysops from hindi wikipedia who are no more active. --hi:user:sumit sinha59.94.128.41 15:37, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Is there any policy about that on Hindi WP? I don't think so, but I am not sure. If not, I think the best is to organise a small vote about this, and then ask a steward. Yann 16:34, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

--10caart 13:21, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Cordialement. Merci bien, --10caart 07:58, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
