Bot blocked in no.Wikipedia edit

Hi!

I blocked your bot and Béria's bot for two hours. I was removing some wrong interwikis from the article no:Liste over ramsarområder i Norge with my bot, but before my bot was done editing, your bot and Béria's bot kept re-adding them to the same pages. I reverted countless times (see here for an example), but every time I was done reverting in all languages, one of your bots had added the links again.

I don't know what mode you're operating the bot in, but you should have a time buffer before the bot adds links. I think a limit should be one hour between something is removed before it is added again – I was using my bot to remove those links, with 1 second throttle, but that still was not fast enough, so imagine someone trying to do that by hand.

I don't know if a time buffer is part of the Pywikipedia code, but I will post to the mailing list to require about it. Jon Harald Søby 04:12, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Mailing the list for this feature is a good idea. Time buffer is not a part of Pywiki if I remember correctly. But there is a solution rather than blocking bots! You could use nobots for 2 hours. :P ‍‍‍‍Investigating the problem.. — Tanvir | Talk ] 04:41, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I've done that now, let's hope it helps. The really annoying thing is that several times all interwikis were correct (at the same time), so there was nothing tying these articles together. It seems like the bots were working from what was removed instead of what was there. Which is really fornicating annoying when you intentionally remove something. Jon Harald Søby 04:49, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I agree that it is very annoying. Well, machine comes with both helps and trouble. :P But I am afraid, something you did which is not going to help. You removed the nowiki link from all article, that's okay. But you kept only the svwiki link on the dewiki article, but you see as the both of sv and dewiki links are on the other wiki pages, one way or another any of the bots are going to push all the links left, to that dewiki article (when someone remove the nobots tag. :S — Tanvir | Talk ] 04:56, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
No, what I did was remove de,no,sv from all articles, and leave no with no links to other articles, and de,sv with links to each other but nothing else (because those two are about the same subject, no is about a different subject, and all other are about the same subject). So even though those two were linking to each other, there was nothing linking either of them to anything else, and nothing linking to no at all. Jon Harald Søby 05:00, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Orwellian erasing of Submissions edit

You have deleted rejected submissions [1], and cited G4, there is nothing in G4 tht justifies the deletion. The rejected submissions are an important historical record of the conference. Why this Orwellian erasing of records? Yogesh Khandke 03:13, 27 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have deleted these submissions with the consent of the WCI organizers and other Meta-Wiki sysops. Organizers and people related to the submission process said they won't be needing those anymore. See Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat#WCI submission pages for relative discussions. Although most of them are junk, but I agree few can be kept. As I see your submission is worth keeping therefore I restored it. :-) — Tanvir | Talk ] 06:18, 27 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

—Mayeenul Islam (TALK) 17:49, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Translations, links and explanations, who shall vote and who shall not? edit

Hei Wikitanvir, why do you think a link to the meaning of "Wikimedia Foundation" is not needed? That's not explained in Stewards/Elections 2012, where I think the only link in the central message will link to. I also don't find a page with an explanation of what a "steward" is and does – not in German. Perhaps a link to de:Wikipedia:Steward would be good, too. A de:wikt:Steward is something completely different than the meaning for "steward" here. Normally you use it in German language with the meaning „Betreuer von Gästen, vor allem in Flugzeugen und auf Schiffen“ which is the 2nd and 3rd meaning in wikt:steward. I think most of the people who see the CentralNotice don't know what "Steward" in Wikimedian language means and I also think it needs a long time of editing to understand what the term "steward" means. That's not what you learn within the first 600 edits. Perhaps it would be more likely to get people to vote if they understand on first sight what the election is about. Why should they vote if they don't even understand the central notice with 2 not explained and unclear words in it? But maybe it's better that only those persons vote who know yet what the whole thing is about? I don't know. Not so easy. And who sees the central notice? Will it also be shown to IP users (or other users) who even may not vote? Greetings --Geitost diskusjon 15:22, 15 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Will the central notice also be shown to anon users or is there a possibility that only logged-in users see that message? (I don't know how it has been in the past.) Personally, I think it would be best if this message would only be shown on the watch lists, so that not every anon user also sees it. We've done it this way with the arbcom and cu elections on German WP. --Geitost diskusjon 15:59, 15 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I published your changes. But there is no need as the central notice will be visible only to eligible users, that means only to stewards will see those notices. And most likely they all know what Wikimedia steward is. Thanks! — Tanvir | Talk ] 16:10, 15 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ah ok, then it's not as I thought. (I had in mind that I've seen this notice in previous elections. Strange.) So it's live now and I just don't see it. But most of the admins should also be eligible (except almost inactive ones), so they have to see the notice also, haven't they? (They should also know enough about stewards and Wikimedia.) ;-) --Geitost diskusjon 16:30, 15 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes, you are right. In previous years it was visible to all users, that's why we received a lot of nominations from ineligible users. To prevent those unwanted nominations we modified our central notice to be visible only to eligible users. Assuming admins in projects are eligible, we didn't put edit limit there, but vote central notice (you will see when the voting starts) checks edit limits and that will be visible only to eligible users. — Tanvir | Talk ] 07:11, 16 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for explaining. In German Wikipedia, several admins may not even vote in admin elections and „Meinungsbildern“ cause they don't have 50 edits in the German article namespace within one year. So there will also be a few who may not vote here where 50 edits within half a year are needed (all SUL accounts together), and there also are many who don't have a SUL-account at all, and if they have an account here, I don't know. But never mind, I don't think there will be as many nominations from ineligible users as in the past. But we'll see. ;-) Surely, it's better this way. --Geitost diskusjon 21:03, 16 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
One more question: Do previous admins in projects also see this central notice? They would also be eligible as candidates if they are active enough and have a SUL and a Meta account, and there are quite a lot of those previous, eligible admins. --Geitost diskusjon 21:23, 16 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I just want to thank you and give you this barnstar for your help with the translation of the 2011 fundraiser! The fundraiser was the best we ever had, both in terms of the amount we collected and in terms of number of translations. We couldn't have done either one without the help we got from you and other translators. If you are interested, we made a report, which has some statistics about the translations.

And: I have one more request, and that is that you take this survey. You may have got an e-mail about it, and if you did, please ignore this. But if you didn't it would be great if you would take this survey too, so we can learn to improve the translation experience.

# -*- coding: utf-8 -*- #

mylang = 'ar'

usernames['wikipedia']['ar'] = u'GedawyBot'
sysopnames['wikipedia']['ar'] = 'محمد الجداوي'

I always find an error message. Can you please tell me what's wrong? Note: I have the same problem with "redirect.py broken -api".--M.Gedawy Talk 14:48, 6 February 2012 (UTC) Reply

I don't know, but I think username and sysop name should be the same, my configuration is like:
# -*- coding: utf-8 -*- #
family = 'wikipedia'
mylang = 'bn'

usernames['wikipedia']['bn'] = 'Wikitanvir'
sysopnames['wikipedia']['bn'] = 'Wikitanvir'

But I don't use the "u" at first, I mean, "['ar'] = u'GedawyBot'" should be "['ar'] = 'GedawyBot'". Sorry I am no tech guy, I just told you how I deal with it. Hope that helps. — Tanvir | Talk ] 05:26, 7 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Broken Central Notice for Steward Elections (de-WP) edit

Hi, in de-WP, there’s a Central Notice regarding Steward Elections. Unfortunately, there’s a broken link: Wikimedia Foundation doesn’t work (= it’s seen there in exact this way). Could you please fix it (the latest revision is from you, hence I ask you)? Regards --Schniggendiller 00:26, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

It’s me again. This revision worked well, but the latest revision is again broken (Wikimedia Foundation). Perhaps it’s because of the first colon? I presume, that Wikimedia Foundation in a central notice could not create an interlanguage link. I don’t know, but I should take some hours of sleep now ... Regards --Schniggendiller 01:18, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
The link is still broken, see de:Wikipedia:Administratoren/Anfragen#CentralNotice_Stewardwahlen. --194.9.121.101 08:17, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I removed the link. It will be plain text. Interwiki links seem having problem with central notice. Thanks for informing, and sorry for your problem. — Tanvir | Talk ] 08:38, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
That’s odd: Before I left to work early at the morning, I had 8 seconds left, so I checked it again and it seemed to work (with link). At work I can’t see any Central Notices (because of JavaScript-Blocking?), now I’m surprised to read (here and at german sysops board) that some people still have had problems with it. Was I wrong with what I imagined to see very early in the morning or was it a cache problem, browser problem, ...? Whatever, now it works. Thank you very much. bye --Schniggendiller 17:13, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Now that you are a steward edit

Please familiarize yourself with all applicable policies and do not act or make proposals contrary to them. Thanks. Seb az86556 (talk) 07:04, 9 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Excuse me, but what are you referring to? — Tanvir | Talk ] 07:43, 9 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
This is against policy. read it. Regular users can make such mistakes, stewards must know better. Seb az86556 (talk) 18:06, 9 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Answering edit

Hi, Thanks for the advice. I made a mistake and take charge of it. Earlier, I apologized in IRC, however as it's difficult to remember if you were there, I need to apologize to you now, a true sorry. --Luckas msg 16:08, 9 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Any time :) edit

It seems to be a trend this month. if you keep up the good work, you may have to semipro your userpage... or we need better countervandal mechanisms and detection. SJ talk   08:04, 18 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

A gentle reminder for Wikipatrika template edit

Dear Tanvir, As per our conversation earlier, this is to remind you about setting up the new template for Wikipatrika that we hope to bring out by the end of April. I was about to leave you a message on the chapter Wiki talkpage but I realized this might reach you faster. Do let me know how we can take this forward. Thanks! :) Noopur28 (talk) 09:03, 3 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Special:Import edit

I am an administrator on Odia (or) Wikipedia. But Admins are not granted "Special:Import" rights or its a bug I do not know. Its been several months I have repoted a bug at bugzilla here. Can you please look into it. And If it is a bug, can't be resolved soon, can I get Import rights on or.wiki please. If you are replying late, whisper me back on my talk page please. Thank You in advance :-) -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 13:49, 6 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Dear Wikitanvir, I've applied to change my name in the Meta-wiki but in many projects it is not done yet. Could you please help me in some wikies where you can change usernames? With Best Regards. --Ganesh Paudel (talk) 10:36, 27 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Unblock edit

Hello Wikitanvir,

Sorry for asking this, it may seem stupid but my account was blocked because of a vandalizing IP (81.185.159.144). This is not the first time I have this kind of problem : I think a spambot is using the same IP adresses as me (or more probably the same range), but only from time to time so I couldn't fix this problem. Could you just make unblock my account (not the IP) so that I could contribute normally ? Thanks Nebogipfel (talk) 16:54, 26 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

IP edit

Hi, I'm an autoconfirmed user. I can not edit because the IP 195.57.19.102 is blocked. Is possible to solve this problem? Thanks. Ferbr1 (talk) 08:00, 29 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sure. You can ask for a global IP block exemption. :-) — T. 14:13, 29 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

That's ok? Ferbr1 (talk) 20:08, 29 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sure, just taken care-off that request. Let me know if you have further problem. :-) — T. 02:29, 30 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi, my IP address has been blocked on all wikis. The block was made by Wikitanvir (meta.wikimedia.org). The reason given is Open proxy. Is possible to solve this problem? Thanks Sanjay Balotiya (talk) 08:15, 8 July 2012 (UTC)Sanjay BalotiyaReply

Your edit on Tamil Wikipedia edit

I have rollbacked the change you made here. User:Hisham might need to WP:USURP and claim his ID across wikis should he want to you use the account. Cheers. Logicwiki (talk) 08:37, 1 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for reverting that. I contacted the person who made the request. I hope he will take that to involved user. Thanks for notifying me and I am going to revert my edits in those non-unified wikis. :-) — T. 10:05, 1 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Magister edit

Why you removed the steward access of Magister Mathematicae without his indication in Stewards requests?. Xt103 (talk) 19:03, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Not all self-requested rights removals need to be listed on-wiki. Magister requested his removal in a proper place which has been documented and verified, and also had legitimate reasons. So I removed his rights based on that. Just a note, other stewards are acknowledged about the details of this. Thanks! — T. 02:42, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
