block of V ANDAL GANG

edit

When undoing the edits of that account I was blocked automatically at ru:wiki for mass edits when I triggered one of their filters. Where is the place to ask for a "global rollbacker" tag ore something similar? --Pentachlorphenol (talk) 07:59, 3 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

The page for requesting Global Rollback is at Steward requests/Global permissions, but I don't think it would have helped in this particular case. -- Tegel (Talk) 08:35, 3 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Meta:Open proxy detection reports the IP address as OP since 2017, and we have had a global block for a year that expires today on that IP. Could you please consider extending your block until 2021-01-21, and also making it global. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth

Song

edit

Hi,

If I understand correctly, you made Special:AbuseFilter/118, which blocks pages by new users with the word "song". Are you sure it's necessary? It appears to block a new user who is trying to write something about the Songhay language, the name of which includes the word "song".

Also tagging User:MarcoAurelio and User:Billinghurst, who made significant edits to the rules. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 21:18, 26 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Good day Amir. If the user has more than 2 edits, it shouldn't trigger the filter. Unfortunatelly we've had lots of spamming with the patterns covered by that filter. That said, if the user is having problems with the abuse filter I am willing to tweak it a bit so they're able to edit without problems. Which is/are the user(s) we're talking about? Thanks. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 21:24, 26 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Silly me, I can find out who the user is via the AbuseLog. Done that. It's Gazuma. I've left the user a message. Hope that it helps. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 21:28, 26 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the reply! You identified correctly :)
Are you sure that this is actually spamming? And are you sure that this particular word is needed? I can think of a few others there that may be too strict, such as "high quality". --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 21:34, 26 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
My pleasure. I could fetch recent spam logs but I guess Billinghurst will know better as he's our tireless spam expert. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 21:40, 26 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
If it is a steward's global filter I am more likely to tweak it if there are reports of false positives, rather than follow it. I generally find it hard to follow a single filter in the current morass of spambots, which is why I am again pushing for the "last edited" (phab:T93564), and why I have asked for an ability to exclusion filter phab:T212695. As meta admins are more recent add-ins to global filters, I am reticent to override a global filter, except those that I implemented. Maybe we need a better space to manage and discuss meta/global filters, especially since their ability to edit has been extended.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:39, 27 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Comment after having a quick look at hits for /118, I think that we can probably limit it to new pages, rather than existing pages. This would not exclude the LTA hits that I am seeing, though it is probable that they are caught by other filters, so we could further tweak after that change, either this or another filter.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:45, 27 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Userpage

edit

Please, delete my userpage on en.wiktionary [1]. I want the content from my Meta userpage to be there. Kubura (talk) 22:24, 21 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi. En.wiktionary has 24 admins that has been active the last week, so I can't take any admin action over there. You need to contact a local admin. -- Tegel (Talk) 22:27, 21 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Problem is that I am blocked there permanently. Personal vendetta by an admin who was blocked on hr.wiki by the decision of community (!); several admins wanted there to unblock me, but the blocker has a pick on me... he "owns that block". I asked the unblocking. First via admin's usertalk page on hr.wiki, but with no reaction from his side, then I created the secondary account [2] made just for communication (with such name) and openly said that to the admin whom I wrote openly who is behind that account - me, I asked the unblocking, since there was no vandalism, no trolling (we do not block for such edits on our wiktionary), just that admin has his political agenda... To no avail. They even blocked me that communication channel ("Because of block evasion"??? I was not editing the mainspace, but talking. How can I communicate with them if they ignore me on other project or keep blocking my communication channels?). Anyway, since I am unable to write there, I'm asking You to do delete my userpage on that project. Kubura (talk) 22:40, 21 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I would like your help in locking an IP address globally. (185.46.77.9)

User:יעל י pings me with a lot of addresses and cancels my edits in many wikipedia.

In addition, I would like you to give me the global rollback permission, I never know which wiki it will bother me with.

thanks, דגש חזק (talk) 12:23, 3 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi. The block is done.
Regarding the Global Rollback permission. You have to place an application at Steward requests/Global permissions, but right now I see the chance for you to receive the GR-tool as low due to lack of cross-wiki activity. -- Tegel (Talk) 12:39, 3 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Board election

edit

Dear steward, I wonder what procedures are there to select members of board of individual Wikimedia (e.g. Wikimedia Armenia). გიო ოქრო (talk) 20:54, 13 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia Armenia and the other supporting organizations is independent organizations, so it's up to the individual organization to set the procedure in their bylaws. Have you looked at their web site, or asked one of the board member or staff? -- Tegel (Talk) 22:16, 13 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
In this case I mean Wikimedia UG Georgia. When one of the editors of kawiki asked the board member, he answered nothing. გიო ოქრო (talk) 20:23, 14 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
If one of the board members don't answer your question you just have to ask someone else. I can't help you with information regarding an organization where I'm not a member. I just don't have the information. -- Tegel (Talk) 21:30, 16 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

The Affiliate-selected Board seats process welcomes your support

edit

Hello. You are receiving this message because you are active in the field of translations <3 The movement needs you! The Nominations phase has started for the ongoing selection process of two Board members, and the timeline is quite tight.

A Translation Central is available to help translators figure out what's been covered and what's left to do. Over the course of the next few weeks, your attention on candidates' profiles is particularly welcome.

While there are four languages that are especially relevant for multiple affiliates (namely Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish), we are asking your help for Chinese, Ukrainian, Bengali, Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Polish, Farsi, German, Cantonese, Finnish, Hindi, Thai, Dutch, and Greek, as these also matter to affiliates! If you can't help: please see if you know anyone in your circle who could, and spread the word :) Thank you! Elitre (WMF) and Facilitators of ASBS 2019, 21:35, 24 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Blocked-IP contribs at abwiki

edit

Since you just blocked some IP addresses that have recently been used to push the Abkhazian Wikipedia over 5,000 articles, I wanted to point you to the discussion at ab:User talk:Surprizi#More year stubs (this is the wiki's sole admin). Looks like Surprizi is interested in improving the pages just created there by those IPs. Is it possible (and if so, what's the best way) to prevent stewards from dropping in and mass-deleting those pages? It is my understanding (based on past experience) that "nothing" will reliably prevent deletions of pages that have been identified as the work of a long-term abuser, but maybe you know otherwise? Please "reply" on Surprizi's talk page (if you don't mind). - dcljr (talk) 11:01, 24 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hey, Tegel, you think you can give me sysop rights? IPad365 (talk) 14:57, 27 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

No. -- Tegel (Talk) 15:35, 27 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
But I saw on your user page that you are a steward, I learned that stewards can promote rights, and always wanted to be an administrator. IPad365 (talk) 04:29, 28 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Stewards can change user rights where there is a local consensus to do so, such after an election, and if there is no local Bureaucrats. I can't see that there has been an election, and Meta has it's own Bureaucrats that will handle the user right changes. -- Tegel (Talk) 08:10, 28 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
I know there are bureaucrats.

I’d have to like being autopatrolled. Can you give me those rights? Please? I found you were a steward and many people are autopatrolled. IPad365 (talk) 23:17, 6 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

It's not the task of the Stewards to give out Autopatrolled rights locally. No, I don't see the need for such a right at the moment. -- Tegel (Talk) 13:08, 7 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Community Wishlist Survey 2020 needs translations

edit

Hello!

I'm contacting you because you've already translated some messages for the Community Wishlist Survey. We need more translations for the 2020 edition, to create a survey that would serve as many users as we know.

The list below shows our needs by order of importance (most important first):

  1. The invitation sent to communities. It summarizes the process. We plan to distribute it soon on this year target wikis. The more translations we have, the better!
  2. The form for non-English speakers. Anyone should be able to add their wish, no matter which language they speak. Translating this short form is very important to encourage diversity and equity.
  3. The survey itself, where the entire process is described.
  4. The preload form, that provides more context on existing wishes.

Some languages are already covered (maybe by you), but some messages have been updated, and there is always some room for reviewing and polishing messages.

Thank you in advance for your help! This survey can't be successful without your assistance. :)
