@Matiia: & @Syum90: Sorry, I've missed to give link with local page where it is main page of the competition. Would you mind changing the text2 link i.e., (link=https://mai.wikipedia.org/wiki/विकिपिडिया:महिला_सम्पादनथन_२०१६)? Thanks in advance, TBhagat (talk) 01:59, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

Enable again local upload of files on swwiki

I request to open again the possibility to upload media files on swwiki. I am one of the 5 steady contributors (plus admin, bureaucrat) on swwiki. Some years ago someone redid the surface of our wiki (guess it was a general action for many wikis) -without ever asking us- and our option to upload files to swwiki disappeared, leaving only the option to upload to commons. I ask to revise this for the following reasons

  • I often cannot access commons as commons is blocked in iran where I work mostly
  • as user:billinghurst was kind enough to change my settings I can upload sometimes when i enter by proxy circumventing the local blockade
  • but very often I cannot because the holy censor brigade here again and again manages to block the diverse proxies.
  • much of what i want to upload are maps and graphics where i change the descriptions in the map from some language to Swahili

I see that a number of large wikipedias still have the local upload (dewiki, enwiki) and so I kindly request that we have it, too, especially as we were never asked about taking it away. Kipala (talk) 08:47, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

Nobody at this page can make that configuration change, and in fact this page can only deal with metawiki issues. You should seek assistance of stewards at Steward requests/Miscellaneous and they will guide you through the process for seeking a local consensus, submitting a phabricator request, etc. The small wikis had their rights to upload due to copyright issues, and that they had the ability to upload to Commons, so you would do well to request links to that history when talking to stewards.  — billinghurst sDrewth 09:03, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
@Kipala: The option to upload files locally has never been removed. As sw:Special:UserGroupRights suggests, it is still possible for local swwiki administrators. Yet, I suppose uploading all kind of free content to commons instead is the way better option, though I can see censorship in Iran is making this more difficult. --Vogone (talk) 10:55, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
@Vogone:Wonderful - but how to? Even it was not removed it disappeared from the menue option.Any advice? Thx, Kipala (talk) 20:05, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
OK, got it. Though gone from menue, playing with commands copied from dewiki I found the right command line. OK, my personal problem is solved. Still not ideal. Kipala (talk) 20:13, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi all! I would like someone to please create a CentralNotice banner for a contest sponsored by Iberocoop network.

Thanks. --Giselle Bordoy WMAR (talk) 17:16, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

Done. Matiia (talk) 04:04, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

Muchas gracias. --Giselle Bordoy WMAR (talk) 19:50, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

Done. Matiia (talk) 23:33, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi Matiia, it would be possible between April 4th - April 12th to limit the campaign in Spain only to just logged in users? --Giselle Bordoy WMAR (talk) 16:23, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Matiia (talk) 16:43, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Troll

Hi! Here is the already blocked troll - 80.187.112.112 (talk · contribs · page moves · block user · block log). He continues trolling under 80.187.99.56 (talk · contribs · page moves · block user · block log) and 2A02:908:1A2:A160:20D4:5E49:59C0:5666 (talk · contribs · page moves · block user · block log). Please block his another IPs as well. Thanks in advance. --Ochilov (talk) 07:02, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

Removal of Autopatrolled user right

Hi, anyone please remove autopatrolled user right. I no need this any longer. Thanks, TBhagat (talk) 09:08, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

This "right" is not being added or removed on request. Its mere purpose is to allow administrators filter past changes more effectively. --Vogone (talk) 09:54, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

Renewed "Wikinger" disruption

For background, compare Global block of Orange ranges (2015). As far as I know, Wikinger actually lost his "Orange" ISP access shortly after that measure was taken, and he was relatively quiet for a few months. He's recently returned to heavy and frequent vandalism, this time using ranges from P4/Play Poland (31.174.0.0/16 and 31.175.0.0/16). Can we start considering a new round of global range blocks? Fut.Perf. 07:35, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

I've globally blocked both for a day, and am reverting some current xwiki vandalism by him, but I don't have time to look much into this right now. Those are big ranges but I've made it anon. only, and I'll give it a better look in the morning. Ajraddatz (talk) 07:56, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

Ongoing new vandalism from P4/Play w:pl:Special:Contribs/164.127.115.224.

Seems to be confined to plwiki for now, from the 164.127.0.0/16 range. Will monitor. Ajraddatz (talk) 17:42, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

Central notice request

Hi, would it be possible to schedule a central notice with this [1] content (congrats to our wikiproject chemistry for receiving an external award)? It should appear only on de.wp, all readers, Mar 22-23th. If possible, restrict it to articles in de:Kategorie:Chemie and subcategories. I'll have to apologize for this last-minute request... learned about this possibility few ours ago. Thanks to DerHexer for pointing it out to us. [Original request on de.wp was [2]. Best regards, --MBq (talk) 06:33, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

CentralNotice banner help please

Hi all! I would like someone to please create a CentralNotice banner for a contest sponsored by Wikimedia UK:

  • Campaign:
  • link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Wales/Awaken_the_Dragon
  • from March 24th to April 2nd, 2016.
  • logged-in and anonymous users.
  • projects: all
  • languages: en.
  • geolocalet to: CY, GD, AR, BO, CL, CO, CR, EC, ES, MX, UY, VE,
  • text1: Throughout April, you can take part in 'Awaken the Dragon!' competition.
  • text2: Improve the quality of articles on Wales...

Many thanks!

Amended as per Dr. Blofeld's suggestions. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 19:50, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Comment from Dr. Blofeld Yes, I would like to see this publicized as soon as possible over the central page notices on wikipedia. For instance when you click watchlist you currently have:

Interested in having a chat with fellow Wikipedians? There are forthcoming meetups in: East London, 29 March; and London, 10 April!

  • There is currently a request for adminship open for discussion. [dismiss]
  • New Wikipedia Library free research access: Cambridge University Press (scholarly journals and ebooks), Alexander Street (educational and news videos and documentaries), Baylor University Press (religion and humanities ebooks), Future Science Group (science and medicine journals), Annual Reviews (biomedical review articles), and Miramar (ships database). Also expansions of Gale and ScienceDirect, and new sources in Arabic and Farsi. Many other resources have available accounts. Sign up! [dismiss]
  • Interested in winning up to £200 in Amazon vouchers and books for writing about Wales in April? "Awaken the Dragon" in a national contest/editathon by improving the quality of articles..!

I'd like to see something like that added. I think mentioning the prizes for it is crucial. Only a week to go so hope we're not too late in requesting this. It does need a good week I think to give people a chance to sign up.Dr. Blofeld (talk) 12:32, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

MassMessage senders for Максим Підліснюк

Hi. I am bureaucrat of Ukrainian Wikipedia, and now we are preparing a mass mailing to owners of inactive bots in our project, so please provide me with temporary status MassMessages sender to 3 weeks. Thanks, --Максим Підліснюк (talk) 01:47, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

Hello @Максим Підліснюк: you're a local sysop on ukwiki, which means that you can already send massmessages there. Just go to w:uk:Спеціальна:MassMessage, and you can ask me if you need any help. Regards, Ajraddatz (talk) 05:00, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
@Ajraddatz: The problem is that many owners of bots have never been active in ukwiki, and the message should be sent to their home wiki --Максим Підліснюк (talk) 12:09, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
Please give us a list of targets ({{#target:User talk:<username>|<xx>.<project>.org}}) and the message you want to send to them and we will do it for you, then. —MarcoAurelio 12:20, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
Ok. --Максим Підліснюк (talk) 12:40, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

MassMesage

Hi! Please, send to User:Максим Підліснюк/Targets User:Максим Підліснюк/MassMesage. Thanks! --Максим Підліснюк (talk) 23:48, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Please note that Ukrainian community is currently discussing this issue at uk:Вікіпедія:Кнайпа (адміністрування)#Неактивні боти and there is no policy on removal of these rights within 7 days upon receiving the message. In addition, the list is messy and contains a lot of Ukrainian bot owners who are likely to be surprised to receive a message in English about their bot in Ukrainian Wikipedia — NickK (talk) 00:58, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
By the way, in any case the message should be rewritten, as the status will be removed without wasting time sounds really rude — NickK (talk) 01:00, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
Well, the message does not say that the rights will be automatically removed in a week. The message could be made translatable, and be sent multilingual after getting some translations. Shall we go this way? --Base (talk) 01:06, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

Details of this request were discussedin the Ukrainian Wikipedia, changes were made.

As the part which has caused real opposition was removed, I have sent it all out. The message does look harmless as it just calls to voice it whether the masters still need the bots rather than suggesting that there is some procedure or policy which actually does not. --Base (talk) 19:38, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

New User:Jsalsman

James Salsman is indefinitely blocked on meta for abusing multiple accounts. 69.46.0.196 14:33, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

If this block from 2012 for surveys which were considered unapproved, until the approval process was found to have never been adopted, is still in effect, then I would like to appeal, or at least request permission to edit for the duration of the Google Summer of Code and 2016 IEG Round 1. I do not, however, understand the process by which I can do so. Jsalsman (talk) 03:52, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

: Perhaps you could provide a bit more context about what happened, and why you believe it is not (or should not be) in effect any longer? I'd be happy to look into it, but I don't want to go rummaging around for old diffs myself. -Pete F (talk) 18:47, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Actually, this is a very straightforward case, as a quick look at User:James Salsman and w:en:User:James Salsman reveals. I am blocking this user. The history involves extensive use of sockpuppet accounts, on English Wikipedia (dating back at least 10 years) and here on Meta; the only contents of the user page is a cavalier comment about evading bans. Coming back by evading a ban, but leaving it to an anonymous IP to point that out (rather than mentioning it in a grant request) is not a good approach. I don't see much likelihood of this going well, but to be on the safe side, for the moment I will permit user talk page comments at User talk:Jsalsman, and I'll keep an eye on that for the next few days. -Pete F (talk) 18:58, 6 April 2016 (UTC)   Done

WMES needs two banners

Hi. During the next month WMES will conduct two photography challenges: Wiki Loves Folk and Concurso de la Guerra Civil Española (about the Spanish Civil War locations). We would like two centralnotice banners to publicize both activities. The details about the banners are:

Wiki Loves Folk
  • link: wikilov.es/folk
  • dates: For the entire month of April
  • logged-in and anonymous users
  • destined for Spanish users only. To be shown in all projects in Spanish (es.)
  • Test code here
Concurso de la Guerra Civil
  • link: es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiproyecto:Historia_militar/Guerra_Civil_Espa%C3%B1ola#Concurso_fotogr.C3.A1fico_GCE
  • dates: For the entire month of April
  • logged-in and anonymous users
  • destined for Spanish users only. To be shown in all projects in Spanish (es.)
  • Test code

Thanks in advance. Montgomery (talk) 19:44, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

Doing...
