Why undo i question re meta not using global blocks, no comment given on undo

I have replied on Wikimedia Forum. Keep the question in one place only. -- Tegel (Talk) 18:02, 3 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Did update re blocking, how can you request unblock from global for enwiki if enwiki is blocked. arbcom cant even be accessed either.

Proxy on brwiki

Hi,

Until now, nobody used proxies for vandalism on the breton Wikipedia (brwiki) so no one cares about them. But as you have seen, right now, someone is actually using proxies to change other people’ messages. Is there something to do to block all proxies IP on brwiki ?

Cdlt, VIGNERON * discut. 21:34, 6 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Open proxys has different IP-addresses so there is no function to block them all. They have to be blocked one by one. Often when we find Open Proxys we block the globally, so then they are blocked on brwiki as well. If you find Open Proxys you can report them on Steward requests/Global so we can plate a global block on them. -- Tegel (Talk) 21:41, 6 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

There shouldn't be a user page for a non-existing account. I put a note on this on your talk page. -- Tegel (Talk) 17:24, 28 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I understand, however, this page is mentioned in a log blocking a user, it is important to make the link for future reference. --The Photographer (talk) 17:26, 28 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
The link works from RC and other places, not just from CentralAuth. We can't create user pages for all non-existing accounts. I suggest that you create a case in Phabricator so the link from CentralAuth go to some suitable place. -- Tegel (Talk) 17:31, 28 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

IP 146.0.32.85

Hallo Tegel,

Mai 2014
   Ablauf der Sperre: 15:44, 25. Mai 2015

Deine aktuelle IP-Adresse ist 146.0.32.85. Bitte gib alle obigen Details in allen gemachten Anfragen an.

Hi. No open proxies is a policy and an IP-address can be blocked just by being an open proxy, but in this case the proxy has been used for vandalism as well. So for that reason it's been blocked. Based on the vandalism that has come from this open proxy I have no intention to remove the block. -- Tegel (Talk) 14:51, 21 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hey why did you deleted my article?????— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mehdihasan1125 (talk)

Hi. Because it is off-topic material for this wiki, Meta. This is not a wiki for articles. Check out Wikipedia instead. -- Tegel (Talk) 18:21, 2 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Tegel, especially if a user is new and poorly informed, as appears in this case, en.Wikiversity is a better place to suggest, it is far more inclusive and will support a user learning how to create articles. (We have even supported children, one user was 7 and what he was writing looked like nonsense or vandalism. He is now a WMF sysop, so it works.) The user will often be guided to do the work in their own user space, with move to mainspace later if the page becomes usable as an educational resource. Creating articles on Wikipedia without knowing the myriads of rules to be followed can be highly frustrating. Thanks. --Abd (talk) 15:51, 3 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi. You are free to recommend the user another alternative. Since the user account was created on en.wiki, and that it's the biggest and most well known wiki, it's easy to assume that it was there the user wanted to contribute. -- Tegel (Talk) 12:21, 4 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

I hope this is an acceptable place to bring this up. Let me know if somewhere else would be better. :) - Nikki (talk) 05:14, 16 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Erasing File:LRC Logo gold.jpg

Hi Tegel, yesterday I uploaded this file to use it in wikipedia. It's a development of another but now old logo which is uploaded on mediawiki too (File:Worldsymbol.gif) Please explain the deletion while worldsymbol.gif is in use. An information before erasing files would be a friendly way. Thank you Andro x

The file was uploaded to www.mediawiki.org, the wiki used to document the Mediawiki software. Images uploaded there can only be used on that wiki. If you are using Commonist to upload images, check the settings so it upload images to Wikimedia Commons. It has happen in the past that when users upgrade the software it changes the settings to upload images on www.mediawiki.org. -- Tegel (Talk) 12:18, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi. The block has nothing to do with you. The reason for the block is to stop a long time vandal from vandalising. It's related to this: Global block of Orange ranges (2015)/pl/Global block of Orange ranges (2015)/en. The user switched to your ISP so we had to place a short block for that ISP as well. I have modified the block so you can login with your account. -- Tegel (Talk) 14:48, 16 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that anyone with access to nonpublic information sign the new confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have access to nonpublic information and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy.

Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. The general confidentiality agreement is now ready, and the OTRS agreement will be ready after 22 September 2015. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign

If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnum wikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain your access to nonpublic information. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.

You need to inform yourself where you should upload the images. The Mediawiki wiki is only for documenting the Mediawiki software, and everything is off-topic. I noticed that the images that you uploaded to Wikimedia Commons where deleted as copyright violations. Before you upload any new images you need to inform yourself what type of images is OK to upload. If you promise not to upload any images on the Mediawiki wiki then I can remove the block. -- Tegel (Talk) 12:42, 3 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

What future IdeaLab campaigns would you like to see?

Hi there,

I’m Jethro, and I’m seeking your help in deciding topics for new IdeaLab campaigns that could be run starting next year. These campaigns aim to bring in proposals and solutions from communities that address a need or problem in Wikimedia projects. I'm interested in hearing your preferences and ideas for campaign topics!

Here’s how to participate:

Thank you for your help in the Mongolian Wikipedia! In our section we have surprisingly fewer admins and surprisingly local sleepy ones operate there but you and numerous other foreign admins help us a lot! Cheers! Orgio89 (talk) 03:48, 11 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Spam in Interlingue-Wikipedia

Hello! Can you please remove this page from the Interlingue-Wikipedia: https://ie.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emilija89mor Its obviously spam. If possible please block the IP-address, too. Thank you very much! Valodnieks (talk) 11:44, 13 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Lombard wiki redirect

Hi! The website of the City oh Portobuffolè, not Portobuffolé. So, if You see other modifications, don't have problem to rollback. --Sciking (talk) 17:07, 18 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Using copy and paste to move an article to a new name is against Wikipedias license. The reason is that the history of the page is not moved. You need to use the special move-tool. -- Tegel (Talk) 17:08, 18 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
I know (in fact, I have rollbacked the edit of the IP), but i wanted to clarify the situation. For the Italian istitution, the IP use a uncorrect name. Hi --Sciking (talk) 17:14, 18 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
I have no objection to the correct name, only that the move is done correct. -- Tegel (Talk) 17:15, 18 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Loredana Bertè

Hello, I've seen that you were editing on Ukrainian WP for the correction of Bertè's name. Thank you for that, I have serious problems with Cyrillic letters. But do you know how/when the corrections are gonna be reviewed? The same problem shows at Russian WP. Regards, XanonymusX (talk) 20:55, 18 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
