Notice of review of adminshipEdit

Hello Mxn. In accordance with Meta:Administrators/Removal and because you have made fewer than ten logged administrator actions over the past six months, your adminship is under review at Meta:Administrators/Removal/April 2015. If you would like to retain your adminship, please sign there before April 08, 2015. Kind regards, Matanya (talk) 13:57, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Disputed and signed.
Do notice your last logged admin action was on 6 December 2014 (see : Special:Log/Mxn) so the listing are correct and matanya was right, thank you.--AldNonymousBicara? 14:29, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
@Aldnonymous: The logs are one thing, but the second criterion is actually "ten actions requiring admin privileges", and editing any project portal requires admin privileges for the obvious security reasons. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 15:41, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
Oh! My bad, truly sorry for that, seems need to made sure that policy explicitly states that edit on protected namespaces/pages be counted as admin action, long time ago we count such edit as logged action nowadays the tools don't count it anymore. Again, my apology for that one.--AldNonymousBicara? 15:45, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
@Aldnonymous: No worries, I should've been clearer in the first place. The community did reach consensus back in 2008 about this point, but it was never added to the tools, probably because tracking edits to protected pages was too complex at the time. I don't know if that's gotten easier, but if so I'm sure it would streamline the AAR process. In any case, having to sign is a minor inconvenience for this work, and it's only been required a couple times in the past. I just wanted to make sure folks were on the same page; it's admittedly an edge case. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 15:41, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

diffEdit

The double equals was deliberate, and changing it to a === breaks the script. Could you please change it back? (This reintroduced bug was reported by Sukyoung Ryu of KAIST on wikitech-l.) --Yair rand (talk) 12:21, 12 May 2015 (UTC)

See Talk:Project portals.

accidental usernameEdit

Hey Minh,

My username got auto-filled and I filled in my username incorrectly. I'd like to use my real name (seung joo kim) as my username). If there is a way to help me out with this I will be very grateful.

Thank you,

Seung Joo Kim

portal updatesEdit

Hey Mxn, since you're the keeper of the portals, just wanted to ping you about Talk:Www.wikipedia.org template#Deprecation of bits server. Should be a trivial change, but just wanted to let you know. Kaldari (talk) 22:07, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi there too. Can you please have a look at Category:Meta protected edit requests? Some portals needs update. Best regards and happy summer. —MarcoAurelio 10:37, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Hello from Thai WikipediansEdit

Hi Mxn, Happy new year 2016! Could you please have a look at the following links:

  1. Talk:Www.wikipedia.org_template#Update_the_Thai_Wikipedia_to_100k-article_section - We've made it yesterday!
  2. Grants:IdeaLab/Wikimedians in Thailand 2016 Initiative, Wikipedia 15/Events/Bangkok - A revision to user contribution count and other mechanism in MediaWiki may help attract more volunteers. Please give us comments/suggestions/criticisms on the proposal. I applied for a scholarship to attend Hackathon but not to Wikimania. If I get a grant to go there, I will definitely work on some of the plan.

wikimedia/portals on GerritEdit

Hello. I got +2 rights on wikimedia/portals at Gerrit when the repo was created there in order to replace the update process from Meta to Gerrit. I've been uploading some patches to there, recently, but once merged the submodule operations/mediawiki-config/portals needs to be updated as well. This is a bit confusing for me, and I guess so for most of all users with +2 rights on that repo. I'd appreciate if you could let me/us know if we are authorized to CR+2 any patches we upload to wikimedia/portals repo, and if you will later ask for sync. the submodule; etc; because as things stand now, I have no idea on what I have to do to have those portals updated. I opened a thread at Talk:Project portals#Mess regarding this. Thanks in advance for your kind assistance. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio 10:51, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

Global renamerEdit

Hi. AFAICS, you've performed no global rename so far, I just wanted to let you know that if you don't rename any user in 9 days, your global rename rights will be removed per policy. Matiia (talk) 14:41, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Wikisource HTML portalEdit

Hi. I wonder if we could reactivate Www.wikisource.org_template. Notwithstanding that this is handled now via gerrit, the text generated by the portals help me upload updated patches to gerrit. Thus having this portal pages working is very useful for me. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio 14:08, 16 July 2016 (UTC)

Module:Project portal/viewsEdit

Hello. Could you please update Module:Project portal/views when you've got some time? I've tried that with gulp, but unfortunately it doesn't work for me. Thanks in advance for your help. —MarcoAurelio 00:46, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

@MarcoAurelio:   Done Make sure to run npm install before running gulp update-stats. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 12:16, 19 December 2016 (UTC)
@Mxn: I did, but required me an old version of Python and a whole lot of other stuff and I gave up. Thanks. —MarcoAurelio 12:18, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi again. Please have a look at:

Can't update them due to Lua module error. I guess the /wikis module needs updating.

Thanks. —MarcoAurelio 17:40, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Still displaying at Category:Meta_protected_edit_requests because something is missing at Module:Project portal that I'm not sure how to fix it. Regards, —MarcoAurelio 12:08, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'Module:Protection banner/config' not found.Edit

At Module:Project portal. Thanks. —MarcoAurelio 11:31, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

@MarcoAurelio: The error means w:Module:Protection banner/config needs to be brought over to this wiki too. I don't have time right now to go through it and remove all the irrelevant protection banners (BLP etc.); do you think you could take a look? Note that this error should only affect the display of the module documentation, not Module:Project portal itself. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 11:25, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

Module:Project portal/wikisEdit

Hi. Hope that you're well. If you could please take a look at Module:Project portal/wikis and update it as appropriate it'd be fantastic. I'm sometimes prevented to update the project portals due to missing strings there and I'm not sure how to fix them properly. Thanks in advance. Regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 13:10, 7 August 2017 (UTC)

@MarcoAurelio: It's a bit difficult to keep this module in sync with the portals project in Git, because there the data is split among l10n-overrides.json and an individual JSON file for each language. Instead, I used this diff to backfill the most essential information. Please feel free to add details as needed. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 07:43, 12 August 2017 (UTC)

Feedback requestEdit

Greetings,

The team that made ORES is working on a new tool called JADE. The new tool is for humans to review the work of ORES, to provide human feedback and oversight. The team would like to hear about how your experience using ORES has been on your wiki, and what you might expect from a tool like the one proposed. If you are interested, you can comment on this page on mediawiki.org.

The team is also interested in sharing updates with you as JADE is developed. Short messages will be sent to this talk page every month or two, linking to a page with further information. Is this something you would like to sign up for? Simply reply to me here if so and I will put your name on the list.

Happy editing to you. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 19:21, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

JSTOR account redistribution (The Wikipedia Library)Edit

Hi - according to our records you received a free account for JSTOR through The Wikipedia Library. Because we’ve used up all of our allocated accounts, and it’s been some time since they were distributed, we want to redistribute any accounts that aren’t being used to users on our waitlist.

If you’re still using, or plan to use, your JSTOR access, no problem! Simply head over to the Library Card platform, log in, and request a renewal of your account. You should be able to do this from your user page, or the JSTOR signup page. If you can’t find the renewal button, or have any other issues or questions about this, please feel free to leave a message on my talk page. We’ll begin redistributing inactive accounts in September; if you request renewal after then we will only be able to reactivate your account if we have spots remaining. Thanks, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:32, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

Vandalism?Edit

Hi there, I noticed what appears to be vandalism coming from this ip at Viwikibooks but am hesitant to block as I'm not 100% sure. It appears to be similar behavior as to what got them several blocks recently, however. Thanks! Praxidicae (talk) 15:24, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

@Praxidicae: This is a tricky case, not in bad faith but also not great behavior. They always insist on reinstating a link to their LinkedIn page, taking credit for authoring the books, yet they won't create an account. However, mostly it's benign formatting changes. I can ask them to create an account to move their LinkedIn profile link to their user page, and also ask them to explain deletions and readditions in edit summaries. Other than that, is there anything in particular that caught your eye? (It's a lot of edits.) – Minh Nguyễn 💬 01:20, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

Movement Strategy

  • Sam (PonyToast) and Maria (Rimmel.Edits) have signed up to serve as our Organized Groups Strategy Liaisons; through December, Strategy Liaisons will act as a conduit for ideas, questions, and updates between the Movement Strategy and organized groups such as our own. Thank you to both members for taking this on!
  • The Wikimedia Summit 2019 just came to a conclusion. Maria Rimmel (Rimmel.Edits) served as our representative this year, following her work at the Ohio State University and WikiConference North America. This year's event had a heavy focus on the Movement Strategy Process and its Working Groups. Maria will be providing updates and outcomes of the conference on the user group talkpage soon - keep an eye out!

Upcoming and Ongoing Events

  • This May is the election for two Affiliate-Selected Board Seats for the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. The Ohio Wikimedians User Group will be eligible to cast one vote. Be on the lookout for updates on how we will decide our vote.
  • Two edit-a-thons are being hosted for Ohio State Department of Spanish and Portuguese students this month. One edit-a-thon is focusing on improving Wikipedia's coverage of female and under-representated language scientists, and the other on Latinx studies.

Recent Events

  • WikiConference North America 2018 (Oct 18-21) at the Ohio State University was a great success! Over 200 attendees (including those representing over 15 Wikimedia affiliates and 25 academic institutions) attended the 70+ sessions we had. A big thanks goes to all the event's organizers, volunteers (including those from Ohio Wikimedians), sponsors, and session hosts. View the full report (work in progress) for more details and outcomes. You can also check out the photos on the Commons.

"By doing an event like this, we can show people that you can edit; your contributions are valid; your contributions are valued. Beyond valued: necessary," Dalesio said.
  • Alden Library at Ohio University also independently hosted an Art+Feminism edit-a-thon on March 22. Check out the event page for more details. Outcomes included editing 27 articles, including the creation of a new one.
"We will be encouraging participants to use our collections to create and strengthen articles, and Library volunteers will be available help them do this effectively. In doing so, we hope to encourage participants to move beyond the role of information consumer, and to consider how they can enrich the information landscape—and maybe leave the internet a better place than they found it," Jennings stated.
