Hello, Interstellarity. Welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum if you need help with something (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). Also worthwhile acquainting yourself with the functions of global user pages. Happy editing!

Hi. I didn't see the content of this page in the history. Did you copy it from somewhere else? -- Tegel (Talk) 16:03, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

And the archives you are creating too. Is it copied from somewhere?--Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:04, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Tegel: Yes, I copied it from enwiki because I am creating a global talk page for all wikis. Interstellarity (talk) 16:05, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Feel free to create a global talk page, but avoid copying talk page content cross-wiki. That talk page content is not relevant for this wiki. And then the fact that there might be issues with the CC-license that is not fulfilled. -- Tegel (Talk) 16:07, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Just to add on, please adhere to the Scope of the project. The January / Feb archives do you still need it here? Thanks much.--Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:08, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Camouflaged Mirage: What I plan on doing is to create a global talk page for all Wikimedia projects and delete my local talk page so that I have one unified talk page. I am currently transferring my archives from enwiki to this project. I also contribute to simplewiki and I don't want to have separate talk pages for both projects so that's why I'm creating a global talk page. Thank you for your patience. Interstellarity (talk) 16:12, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
I know you are editing simple, welcome here. There is only a global user page, there isn't a global talk page. Talk pages are project specific, meta has it's own talkpage so as simple for a user. You can, however, guide users here to the talk pages for other projects by a soft redirect / vice-versa provided the topic is in scope here. Hope you have a nice time here.--Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:17, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Camouflaged Mirage: Thank you for the info. I shall file a request for deletion for the archives I created. Interstellarity (talk) 16:30, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Do you need help with that, a tag {{delete|author request}} will help.--Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:31, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Camouflaged Mirage: I have put in a request to delete this page and the archives. Thank you so much for your help and for your kindness. Interstellarity (talk) 16:33, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

But this page should not be deleted. this is your talk page on Meta where we have been discussing with you. -- Tegel (Talk) 16:35, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

I agree with Tegel. This can remain but I have no objections to deletion if you need and Tegel agrees too. Glad to help out a fellow simple wiki editor. --Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:37, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Tegel and Camouflaged Mirage: Sorry about that. I try my best to do the right thing here and I didn't know that this talk page cannot be deleted. Interstellarity (talk) 16:39, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
It's okay, we all screw up here before. Feel free to ask me if you need help on my talkpage. --Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:46, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Notifying other editors about discussions

edit

{{help me}} I would like to notify other editors about a discussion at Talk:List_of_articles_every_Wikipedia_should_have#Some_proposals. This page doesn't have many active watchers so I am trying to figure out how to notify other editors about the discussion. Also, is there a help desk on this wiki where I can ask questions, I can't seem to find one. Interstellarity (talk) 17:28, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

For meta related will be Meta:Babel, translation Meta talk:Babylon, general Wikimedia Forum. Hope this helps. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 17:30, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

List of articles every Wikipedia should have

edit

You have made masive changes to the m:List of articles every Wikipedia should have in recent weeks. Could you point me to the location where those changes were proposed, discussed, and where clear concensus was established to have them made, please? --Dcirovic (talk) 20:39, 9 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Dcirovic: Could you explain what changes they are? If you meant List of articles every Wikipedia should have/Expanded, I made these changes boldly. The reason why I did this is because that talk page is not watched as much as the 1000 list so I thought it made sense to do the changes. Interstellarity (talk) 22:08, 9 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
The List of articles every Wikipedia should have/Expanded list is currently used on ~300 Wikipedia’s projects. The majority of those language projects do not have sufficient number of active users. Your mostly unnecessary changes are having detrimental effect on many projects, since this very long list is being turned into even longer one (a moving target). --Dcirovic (talk) 04:23, 12 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please stop making changes to the List of articles every Wikipedia should have just before the monthly ranking (i. e. List of Wikipedias by sample of articles) update. The consensus is that we do these things shortly after the update so the various communities can review them and make sure the new articles are on par. — Yerpo Eh? 17:22, 4 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Yerpo,
I understand your reasoning. It seems like there is consensus to remove the countries Singapore, New Zealand, and Vatican City. In my second edit, I was making swaps to make sure the article count remains the same. There seems to be support for removing the articles that are listed at Talk:List_of_articles_every_Wikipedia_should_have#Creating_a_better_list. However, there is opposition to the additions. There doesn't seem to be a set process in place like there is for en:WP:Vital articles. I was thinking that because this list is less active than that particular list, there's more leeway in being bold. There is nothing on the page that says articles should not be added and removed without a consensus. I hope you'll understand. Interstellarity (talk) 21:53, 4 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Please, notify the changes before doing them. There are ot of projecs trying to work on this list and, if you change them without further notice, the lists get more divergent and can't be followed. -Theklan (talk) 07:30, 6 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Theklan: If I want to make changes to the list and record the changes in the template, would my changes get reverted? Yerpo reverted two of my edits to the page and I feel that I haven't done enough to make the list better. Could you provide advice on how to manage the situation? Interstellarity (talk) 18:51, 6 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Interstellarity: I wouldn't make any change without consensus. Once consensus is made, there is a template marking which changes have been done. Lot of wikimedians across many projects are working in this list of 1.000 articles, and if we change the goalpost constantly, the list becomes a highly dynamic topic that can't be nor achieved nor followed. Every time you make a change, I need to change also this list here. If I don't know which were the changes, the local list and the global list get more and more divergent, because there's no way to know what has changed. I disagree about non discussed changes, but I protest about not notifying those. -Theklan (talk) 18:06, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Note that I reverted your changes because in both instances you made them just before the ranking was updated. If you made them now (for example), I wouldn't have this objection - but make sure that you keep the total number at 1000 and record the swaps in the recent changes template. More generally, though, proposals for changes should be argumented and discussed individually, it's difficult to establish consensus for such a big list of proposals. From what I see, there's no clear consensus for any of the proposals in Talk:List of articles every Wikipedia should have#Creating a better list. — Yerpo Eh? 10:13, 14 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

List of articles every Wikipedia should have

edit

Good morning, for your information, I undid all the changes we did in the list. A vote is necessary to accept any change. We can find the rules about such a vote at the beginning of Talk:List of articles every Wikipedia should have. Best regards, --Toku (talk) 08:28, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I will take that into consideration. Interstellarity (talk) 17:03, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

List of articles every Wikipedia should have/Extended

edit

Hi. As we talked in Talk:List of articles every Wikipedia should have/Expanded/Geography#Alaska out?, you can't change any article on the 10K list without consensus. I've reverted the Alaska change and the Al Gore / John C. Calhoun swap.

I've read this page and many other users had adviced you before, so, please, stop doing that. Thanks -- Cataleirxs (talk) 08:18, 17 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Cataleirxs: I will make any major changes to the list without prior consensus per discussions above. From now on, I will get a consensus on the talk page before any changes. I try to improve my edits on Wikipedia so that I move towards positive change. It's not always easy, but that's my vision. I hope you will understand my commitment.
