For Template:Main Page/Sisterprojects/Code you noted the still missing free logo. The generic logo actually is free, I imported it for a quick test here two weeks ago. It's only a PNG, but until you find a real solution it might be better than the old bugzilla logo. –Be..anyone (talk) 01:27, 1 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

i18n bug reports

edit

Please don't discourage our helpful translators who go the extra mile and report i18n bugs. It's ok for triaging to be performed by people other than the translator, as it has always been. Of course it's fine to let them know a certain functionality of the issue tracker is available, as long as you don't make them feel obligated. Thanks, Nemo 21:16, 24 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Nemo bis: Thanks. Hmm... If a request to "Please use XYZ. Thanks!" can be seen as 'discouraging' and creating obligation, I wonder how to rephrase. Any recommendations? --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 06:24, 25 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Multi-factor auth on Phabricator

edit

Hi, can you remove my multi-factor auth on Phabricator please? I lost my access to my device which has the secret to generate the code, but I can still access Phabricator with my account using my iPad. I can't remove the multi-factor auth on my own, since as I said above, I no longer have the secret which generates the code. Please also remove multi-factor auth on phab-01, phab-02, and phab-03. Embed external Babel blocks

edit

Hello, as it was told me yesterday on ##wikimedia-techconnect, thaks to @Platonides: meta uses a extension based Babel. In the dewiki we use a template based Babel. The meta-babel has inbound MediaWiki:Babel-template, which adds a prefix (Template_$1) for all Babel blocks used with the Babel extension. I wanted now to embed external Babel blocks from the german wikipedia for example a statement against Nazis (:de:User:Torana/Vorlage:NazisRaus). Babel adds the prefix and tries now "Template:User :de:User:Torana/Vorlage:NazisRaus" is there a way (argument or something else) to bypass the prefix? If not, do you know another way how I can realize what I've set my mind on? Thank you --Keks by 14:10, 4 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Der Keks: Hi, sorry, I don't know enough about Babel and templates. Maybe you could ask on https://discourse-mediawiki.wmflabs.org/ ? --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 15:52, 4 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Have

edit

you noticed that I have removed the word fucking after 9 minutes of my first edit, on my own and about 4 hours before you jumped in ? Or is this is an effort to sanitize the history logs? And, I additionally hope that you don't have any plans to settle in UK, because it appears that not only you do have a good grasp over the naturalized use of English nor have you got any minimal idea about linguistic relativism, given that you seem to think the sole usage of fucking is as strong language? Eh!

Also, it is common courtesy across Wikimedia projects that people who are involved in a dispute don't call the shots. But, then phab's an other-worldly venue. And, since you have pointed me to my previous warning, I point you to the same ticket wherein Tony had appropriately described you as a tone-deaf volunteer.

Also, in-case you feel that you are not immune from errors, make sure that people whose accounts are disabled have a way of challenging it.Right now, there is actually nothing that says why my account was disabled, except a banner that occupies a central area of my screen, as soon as I log into phab.(I had to access Phab through a logged-out-mode to evaluate the happenstances.)

And, as ICPH said, you have successfully managed to do some idle-power-posturing and lock out someone who was doing some actual work to add new features to the NPP-suite.Nicely done.Winged Blades of Godric (talk) 09:48, 23 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Winged Blades of Godric: I reverted your latest edit of your own comment above to your second version, as that is the version I wrote my reply for. Feel free to add additional comments as separate comments as it is impossible to properly reply to a text which is a moving target. Thanks.
You've been asked several times to change your tone. I leave it to your judgment whether your edits of your own language are "an effort to sanitize the history logs". See previous comments linked from https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T124396#4686857. Regarding "challenging", that should likely be discussed on the discussion page of the Phabricator Etiquette (and I agree it is a problem that there is no defined way to challenge). If you want to point me to some "same ticket", feel free to provide links. You (and anyone else) are free to request Phabricator features (such as introducing a field why an account was [temporarily] disabled) in upstream Phabricator. I am happy to hear that you have been helpful and did some actual work in other venues; that does not justify being confrontational and using aggressive language in Phabricator after having been repeatedly asked to stop that in Phabricator. And my plans where to settle are rather irrelevant here, I'd say. :) --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 10:42, 23 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
If you have been any active on the side of the community and know the standard practices, you would know that a-prior to a reply that has been published to any post, the post can be altered to one's own wishes.
As to whether my own edits are an effort to sanitize the history-logs, the sole reason I did sanitize it was because I knew very well that someone would throw a fit (Oh gosh! How you dare he say the word fuck?! We only know that it's the choicest of expletives! BLOCK!!!!!) and hence, choose to edit that out.It seems that you are so interested in stifling dissent by any means, that you are now reading the history logs to evaluate such flimsy issues.
You agree about the lack of any definite challenge procedure. You, in your way-out, mention likely which I take as a circular way of saying that :--Even, I am not certain.I pulled the block and my duty's over.
As to my work w.r.t to NPP, see my en.wiki contribs over the past two days or so.Also, see ICPH's comment at the very thread where you choose to block me and something which you've ignored.
As I said at the ticket, I don't have any idea about your first language but your reply to me over this ticket or to Kudpung, at the one where you disabled my phab access, easily qualifies as a patronizing one.
And, please avoid writing boiler plate candy-messages, which together with the non-sincere Thanks a lot! at the end smacks of an apathy and unprofessional-ism. It's not McDonalds.
Why don't you just write something more personalized and sympathetic along the lines of:--Hi, XYZ, our developers are limited in number and are working on a vast range of issues, across a multitude of projects, which all are quite necessary and vital. We appreciate the urgency of this issue and would like to invest some efforts, as optimally as possible.I cannot share any opinions as to whether this is an easy task, since that will need some detailed introspection but I hope that it turns out to be so;-) In the meantime, if you think you can provide the necessary patches, you are most welcome and bla, bla, bla...........Thank you.
If you read my lines carefully, nowhere I have said anything concrete but at-least that's more sympathetic to our minds and ears.Obviously, it will be good for some of you to do choose to pay heed to some of the the tasks, because otherwise it won't take long for the community to call out your messages as bluff.
And, finally, my message was not any confrontational. The community expects that things which are vociferously sought by the community, outside of the SantaClaus wish-list will be heeded to by the developers in a timely manner.
If you feel that such a sentiment is wrong and that you have no responsibilities to partake in requests outside of the Wishlist, outside of own wishes and whims, make it grand and audible enough.
And, I probably understand the notions of confrontational-ity and aggressiveness, better than you, as someone who has spent years communicating with numerous newbies, writing articles and all other front-line stuff.
FWIW, you, developers are not five year old children, to be mollycoddled.
So, kindly incorporate the broader theme of this conversation into your future activities and reverse your frivolous block of my account.Winged Blades of Godric (talk) 11:22, 23 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Winged Blades of Godric: The reason why your account was disabled is style of communication, not topic of communication. Hence bringing up Community Wishlist here misses the point. Not sure either which (unmentioned) group you'd like to make me part of by using "some of you" generalizations. If one of my messages "easily qualifies as a patronizing one", you are free to bring this up to the Code of Conduct committee. Thanks! --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 12:17, 23 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
I was not seeking to make you part of anything.Just a generalized note, as to your style of communication, that there is a need for personalized sympathetic messages and that some of you might bother a bit as to tending to the non-wishlist tasks.
At any case, there seems to be some communication gap (which I guess, generates from a language-barrier).We very surely disagree as to the tone of my message, esp. that I had edited a part. word out.
And, the locus of the discussion ought be somewhat based on the theme of non-wishlist-request because if you go across phabricator tickets, sans the issue of Wikidata, this is the sole recurring issue which has generated maximum tension between the community and developers. So, a clear-cut statement from your side, as to what are your (It's a generic you, for the devs; not you, in specific) responsibilities (if any), as to the implementation of these off-wish-list requests, would be welcome.
And, are you willing to reverse your block? Winged Blades of Godric (talk) 12:24, 23 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Winged Blades of Godric: If you are "not seeking to make me part of anything", then who is the "you" in your "some of you" in the next sentence again? What made you not write "some of us" instead of "some of you"? Plus you continue to talk about some community wishlist stuff which misses the point, but I've said that before. Was there something unclear with the previous requests to change tone and stick to the Etiquette? --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 14:44, 24 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
As to those developers who are paid by WMF to partake in these development-stuff.Not everybody is a volunteer.
We are talking at cross-purposes and it's evidently clear that you are not willing to enable my account. And, I will let it rest.
FWIW, what's an implicit user-group? One example can be seen over here, as to the patroller group.Winged Blades of Godric (talk) 15:38, 24 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Winged Blades of Godric: Not everybody is a volunteer. That does not mean everybody else is a developer who is paid by WMF either (in case that was your implicit assumption about me - it sounded like that to me). Throwing in random incorrect assumptions ("some of you", "evidently clear") make conversations destructive, in addition to unproductive tone that has been pointed out before. My remaining question is: Was there something unclear with the previous requests to change tone and stick to the Etiquette? --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 16:45, 24 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
If you understand the issue and are going to keep a civil tone in Phabricator, I'm fine enabling the user account. That issue is unrelated to potential "language barriers". However, previous warnings don't seem to have helped so I'd like to know first why it would help this time. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 15:25, 25 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
I've had some interesting discussions with Whatamidoing over my t/p and taking clues from that, pledge to keep a civil tone, to the best of my efforts. Please enable my phab account, given that I need to sign the new confidentiality agreements to retain my access to OTRS and AccountCreators-team.Winged Blades of Godric (talk) 07:29, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Winged Blades of Godric: Thanks for coming back to this thread. (I'd like to clarify again though that I don't have a problem with words like "fucking" per se. I also swear sometimes; I guess we can all be passionate people. It really depends what (or rather: who) is criticized in comments and which tone is chosen.) I have re-enabled your Phabricator account. Cheers! --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 09:07, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
That edit stayed for a few seconds, at maximum and you need to stop being a bully. Also, why the hell was I blocked, this time? Winged Blades of Godric (talk) 19:45, 26 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
For the records, after "@AKlapper: You need not bother yourself about stuff that stood for seconds, before I self-reverted. I suggest you spend your time in writing code that might improve these comical situations rather than bullying others." in https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T219316#5059717 I have disabled your Phabricator account again. It's saddening that the pledge to mw:Bug management/Phabricator etiquette keep a civil tone in Phabricator did not work out. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 19:50, 26 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
You are not the arbiter to decide what is a civil tone and what not, for something that is directed at you. Ever heard of conflict-of-interest stuff? Your accusations that I was uncivil for something that was a heat-of-the moment reply and was self-reverted seconds later is bullying and equally uncivil. You may want to read this for broadening your myopic perspectives on the issue. Winged Blades of Godric (talk) 19:57, 26 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
It's also pretty amazing that among the several tickets that I've participated in, (after your last unblock), none seemed to find me any remotely uncivil or made any complaint about my behavior and it has got to be again you. Winged Blades of Godric (talk) 20:01, 26 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
It was explained in https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Winged_Blades_of_Godric#Hey that Phabricator is not English Wikipedia so I do not plan to read that link. You pledged to have a civil tone. You were well aware of that. You know that the pledge did not exclude "heat-of-the-moment replies". Things were clear. I don't see anything left to discuss here. Cheers, --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 20:04, 26 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

You can vote from November 16 to November 30. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won’t send out a separate reminder to you about that. /Johan (WMF) 11:24, 30 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Removing FlaggedRevs in Indonesian Wikipedia

edit

@AKlapper (WMF): Hi, I'm Akmaie Ajam. I am an established user in both English and Indonesian Wikipedia with about 1,900 and 450 edits, respectively. I contribute to articles about Indonesia and fix typos in the English Wikipedia and add information and fix mistakes in the Indonesian Wikipedia. I have quoted you in Phabricator, but you did not respond. Therefore, I'm posting here. There is a consensus to remove FlaggedRevs in the Indonesian Wikipedia. I think it's important (High priority for the Indonesian Wikipedia) to remove FlaggedRevs, because of various reasons here: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T172838. I do not know how to fix it, as I am new to Phabricator, and do not plan on learning to do so. So, could you please call an user to remove FlaggedRevs in the Indonesian Wikipedia and replace them with the system in the English Wikipedia. Sorry if this topic distracts you. Thank you for reading. ᐱᔌᕬᐱɭᕮ ᐱᒍᐱᕬ (Talk) 09:38, 12 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Akmaie Ajam: Hi, I did see your mention in Phabricator but I don't know why you pinged me specifically in that Phabricator task. If you have any questions about that task, please feel free to ask in that task. Anyone is free to decide which task they would like to work on; see also mw:Bug management/Development prioritization. Thanks! --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 11:31, 12 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@AKlapper (WMF): I think this deserves a priority increase to Medium because it's crucial for the Indonesian Wikipedia to replace FlaggedRevs, becayse there is so many unchecked revisions out there that are waiting for approval because of the FlaggedRevs system. Also, like I have mentioned before, there is a consensus: https://id.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Permohonan_pendapat/Penerapan_perubahan_tertunda_dan_pengguna_terkonfirmasi_lanjutan. Allowing administrators to delete sitewide CSS/JS/JSON

edit

Hello AKlapper,

On Chinese Wikipedia, interface administrators are not required to be an administrator. And we find that you need both user groups to delete a CSS/JS/JSON page in MediaWiki namespace. That's weird. Is it possible if we allow administrators to delete such pages? Allowing interface administrators to delete them is also a choice.

Here is the related discussion. Lt2818 (talk) 15:10, 7 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Lt2818: Hi, see phab:T201394, phab:T258383, phab:T256427. In general, please bring up technical questions in support places like Tech (because asking individuals does not scale). Thanks a lot! :) --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 15:43, 7 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Notification about a grant request

Hi.

As someone who commented about my grant request (including the talk page) last year requesting funding to create the GlobalWatchlist extension, I thought you might want to know that I have requested another grant to continue development. You can see the new request at Grants:Project/DannyS712/Continued work on GlobalWatchlist extension - if you support this, I hope you'll consider endorsing the request.

My apologies if you were already aware of the new grant request (I sent a similar message to the subscribers of User:DannyS712/Global watchlist/Updates - sorry for any duplicates).

Wikidata Project work board

Hi there! Lydia Pintscher sent me your way.

We are a group of Wikidata music editors looking to set up a shared todo-list, and while shopping around for a suitable app I was told that we could just use a Phabricator work board.

@Ilovemydoodle: Because you added the user profile description NOTICE: I have previously contributed here under the user "[[https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/p/Ilovemydoodle2|Ilovemydoodle2]]", I have changed to this account and I will not use my old account. to phab:p/Ilovemydoodle. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 20:57, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
But why did you disable my main account? – Ilovemydoodle (talk) 20:59, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Ilovemydoodle: I did not. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 21:05, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Then who did? All it says is 'PhabBanBot'. – Ilovemydoodle (talk) 21:16, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

I cannot view that page. – Ilovemydoodle (talk) 21:38, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ilovemydoodle's Phabricator account was automatically disabled because the Wikitech account it was linked to was blocked (for disruptive editing on Wikitech). * Pppery * it has begun 04:32, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Pppery: What disruptive edits?? I only made like three edits there. – Ilovemydoodle (talk) 05:00, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Just having a look at wikitech:Special:Contributions/Ilovemydoodle2, It might be the fact the you were editing pages and then immediately reverting the edits, which causes email alerts to people that watch those pages, or extra work those that monitor the Recent Changes stream for that wiki. You should just be happy it didn't immediately happen when you vandalised the main page. P858snake (talk) 05:45, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@P858snake and Pppery: The (broken) English was extremely hard to understand, so I tried to fix it. The reason I reverted the edits was because I realized that my original attempt was likely wrong. – Ilovemydoodle (talk) 18:54, 28 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Ilovemydoodle I wouldn't call that broken English, Simple English certainly. If your not sure of the context of the content on a wiki or the policies on a wiki, It may be best to reframe from editing a wiki until you have a bit time to study the content, to prevent potential further blocks for disruptive or CIR style blocks. P858snake (talk) 21:21, 29 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@P858snake: How is this not broken? Also, I do need the account unblocked to use phabricator. – Ilovemydoodle (talk) 21:25, 29 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Ilovemydoodle: Please use the preview when editing wiki pages. I again received more than one email notification for a single comment added in this thread; that's unneededly noisy. Thanks. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 07:05, 30 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I continue this on a different page. Also, I usually do use preview. – Ilovemydoodle (talk) 08:12, 30 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Need help for a report

edit

Hi. I created task T329440 back in February, but it seems that no one saw the task. Can you please check if I am doing something wrong? Thanks. Jeeputer (talk) 08:26, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Jeeputer: Hi, nothing wrong. See also mw:Bug management/Development prioritization. Thanks, --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 08:28, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
