New stewards are elected roughly once per year. Stewards perform technical tasks on all Wikimedia wikis based on community consensus and on the Stewards policy: changing user access, viewing user information in cases of abuse, and so on (see details).

Candidates must meet the [[Special:MyLanguage/Stewards/Elections {{{year}}}/Guidelines|criteria]] and obtain at least 30 votes in favor with an 80% support ratio. Verkiesingskomitee

Rentmeesters organiseer self die verkiesings. Die Raad van Trustees het in 2009 besluit dat hulle nie die uitslag van nuwe verkiesings sal bevestig nie. Om hierdie rede het die rentmeesters 'n verkiesingskomitee vir elke verkiesing saamgestel, bestaande uit vrywilligers vir die volgende take:

Afsluiting van die rentmeesterverkiesing;
Sertifisering van die verkiesingsuitslag, nadat die geldigheid van alle stemme in alle kandidature nagegaan is;
Aanstelling van die verkose kandidate;
Afsluiting van die rentmeestersbevestiging;
Na afloop van die rentmeestersbevestiging, bepaling van konsensus tussen die gemeenskap en rentmeesters, en daarna 'n finale besluit oor bevestiging (al dan nie) van die nuwe rentmeesters.
