Requests and proposals Requests for adminship on Meta Archives
Shortcut:
WM:RFA
This page hosts requests for administrator access on the Meta-Wiki; for requesting administrator access on any other wiki, please see the index of request and proposal pages, where a steward can do the job if required. Bureaucrat, checkuser, oversight and bot requests are also made here. Before making a request here, please see the administrator policy.

Most requests should be listed here for at least seven days; bureaucrats should only close after the minimum time foreseen in the relevant policy. Discussions are not closed early. Adminship will be granted by a support ratio of at least 75%. If a request hasn't been addressed by a bureaucrat after a lengthy period of time, please leave a note at Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat. Requests may be extended, or put on hold by bureaucrats, pending decision or finding of consensus.

Requests for temporary adminship and bot requests may be less formal and often go for a shorter duration if consensus becomes clear after only a few days of discussion.

All editors with an account on Meta, at least one active account on any Wikimedia project, and a link between the two, may participate in any request and give their opinion of the candidate. However, more active Meta editors' opinions may be given additional weight in controversial cases.

See below for information on prerequisites on submitting a request, and how to add a nomination.

Information

Note that this page is for access on Meta only. See the permission request to stewards page for adminship/deadminship requests on other projects.

Regular adminship

  1. Before requesting admin access, please check the policy for requesting adminship.
  2. Use the box below, insert your username:

  1. Place a request on this page, by transcluding the subpage, for example {{Meta:Requests for adminship/Username}}. Please put the newest request on the top. Bear in mind that even if you do meet the criteria above this does not mean that the community will automatically approve a request.
  2. Please note, past administrators who have given up their rights must meet all criteria at the time of the new request. There is no separate process for reinstating past administrators.

Please note: Ill-considered nominations for adminship can be draining and deflating to both the community and the candidate. Any successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate sufficient experience within the Wikimedia community, in addition to a familiarity with Meta-Wiki. If a candidate is not already a local administrator or holder of advanced permissions on a Wikimedia content project, he or she is less likely to pass a request for adminship here at Meta-Wiki.

Bureaucratship

Add your request below under the bureaucratship section. Please note:

  • Only active administrators can become bureaucrats, and only after at least 6 months of regular adminship.
  • User is endorsed by two current bureaucrats after he/she nominates themselves here.

If you fail any of these requirements, you will not be assigned the bureaucrat flag. For more information see Meta bureaucrat page.

Other access

For these types of access, create a subpage just as you would for regular adminship and add it to the appropriate section of this page.

  • Limited adminship: If you need sysop access for a particular reason (such as ability to edit protected pages), you may request limited adminship on Meta. If granted, the user understands that they will only be allowed to use the tools for the tasks they were approved, and not doing so will be grounds for immediate removal. Temporary sysop access will normally be valid for one month unless requested and granted otherwise.

  • CheckUser: please read the CheckUser policy and add your request below under the checkuser section, in the same way as an admin request.

  • Oversight: please read the Oversight policy and add your request below under the oversight section, in the same way as an admin request.

For these types of access, just ask on Meta request for help from a sysop or bureaucrat page:

WMF Office Staff and Contractors

  • If you are an WMF Official or Contractor and need rights on Meta-Wiki to perform your duties the process is different. Please have a look at the WMF staff userrights policy on Office wiki[restricted access] and follow the procedure described there. If in doubt, please contact Trust and Safety; or send an email to ca wikimedia org.(source)

Requests for regular adminship

Hi, all. I'd like to apply for Meta-wiki adminship. I was a former Meta wiki admin. See:Meta:Administrators/Removal/October 2021 I was so busy that I didn't have time to edit on Meta-wiki because of the Coronavirus outbreak. But, I can make time to volunteer activity here from now on. Unfortunately, there is no native Japanese Steward left to deal with LTAs from JAWP. I currently have admin rights on JAWP(BC, CU, OS and Interface administrator) and have GS flag since 2016. So, I think I can make use of my skills here.--Infinite0694 (Talk) 16:00, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

Typically I won't have much issues with this, and I trust you. I know COVID is an issue everywhere, we had a bad outbreak here too. There are some areas I am not that comfortable with, that is (1) the removal isn't due to self requested removal, it's a forced removal by inactivity. In between the removal and this re-request, there isn't much activity either. (2) Even if we count the actions you taken here, most are blocking of accounts that have no edits here using a weird red-link reason sockpuppet and they aren't that regular. For one I blocked more ISECHIKA socks during the period and many others do so too. I am seeing not a negative for supporting the access but I don't see too much of a plus of supporting the access either. I will be more supportive of immediate restoration of admin rights if it's someone who give up the rights voluntarily and then wanting it back, that's perfectly fine and should be supported as rights are not hats. This case is different as it's a mandatory removal due to inactivity. THere are some discussions started by me on Babel on changing the inactivity clause which I welcome participation but for now let's respect it. And after the removal they immediately wanted the access back without any demonstrated activity. Hence, I am quite torn with this with COVID being a valid extenuating reason but then this request seems a little premature to me based on what I had said.   Neutral. Requests for limited adminship

Romaine

Not ending before 1 December 2021 22:12 (UTC)

I am requesting temporarily admin rights for Meta. WMF has decided to move the full contents of Outreach Wiki to Meta, including the newsletters for GLAM and Education and other pages. Already some pages have been re-created by WMF on Meta without using the import function, while that should have been used to ensure the full history is preserved. To properly import those pages with full history, I request temporarily admin rights on Meta to import and merge the history of pages. WMF has scheduled that the migration is completed by the end of December 2021, so I expect to be ready with fixing the issues within a 3 months time period. Romaine (talk) 22:17, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

  •   Support trusted user, valid use case --Ameisenigel (talk) 10:08, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
  •   Support The use-case described in the request is fine with me. However, I think it should be expanded to not include only history merges, but also importing (see my SRP comment for details). (Un)deletions (related to the task) will also likely be useful. In another words, the approved use-case should IMO let Romaine to use adminship in any way that's directly relevant to the migration. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 12:29, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
  •   Support valid use case. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 13:26, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
  •   Support has a need for LA. SHB2000 (talk | contribs) 07:44, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Just grant full sysopship, I think they as a CNA should justify the trust already. I am just lazy to cross reply at Babel or Outreach but am a little puzzled here. Are only the newsletters coming here or the entire outreach wiki, if it's the latter I think meta sysops we can be overstretched with the load here. I think outreach also suffers for spam here and there and outreach can handle due to the additional rights holders there as well as it's a GSwiki, meta isn't and I don't think all the outreach sysops if RFA here might pass. We need more LAs then to manage. I will   Support a LA based on outreach based content here indefinitely, as opposed as the 1 month convention for LA typically. The grant will be subject to yearly signing on Oct confirmation runs, like the other indef LAs we granted. @Romaine: Are you okay for this or rather would you just run for full adminship, either I will glad to support. I think for further merges into meta for other projects, it will be better if advanced notice could be given, this seems very rushed. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 09:07, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
    • Hi Camouflaged Mirage, What I understood from WMF is that all the content from Outreach is migrated to Meta, and then Outreach Wiki is going to be closed. As I am now admin on Outreach, I am fine to move the admin rights to Meta. I am not someone who is constantly patrolling the changes, but at average I am about every week on Meta and can have a quick look if things can be done. I do not know how high the activity standards are on Meta to make me qualify, but temporarily or full time I do not mind. As I have time this week, and a busy period is coming later his month, I hope I can start this week with the work I requested temporarily admin rights for. I suspect for the full admin rights a separate procedure is needed, so I think it is better for now to complete the procedure for temporarily admin rights. Romaine (talk) 21:41, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
Just to clarify here from the WMF side, we have not decided to move the full contents of Outreach wiki to Meta. Just the existing pages for the GLAM and Education newsletter (announcements 1, 2) Romaine's assistance is needed (and more than welcome!) to help with this endeavor. If there is a miscommunications somewhere, please point me to it and I'll clarify. Chris Koerner (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 22:25, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
@Romaine Noted. I should be clearer, sorry. The LA system here is 1 month by default. I support the grant to be longer like say indefinite (subject to yearly signing that you want to keep the LA tools). If you think 3 months is sufficient, I am happy to support also. This is just that you understand the possibilities of duration of grant. For crats, I am okay for the use case to include anything related to Outreach which can include the blocking of vandals related to that page. So I think this isn't too much different from what a full sysop can do so I suggested just granting the full sysopship as an option. Thanks also @CKoerner (WMF) for your helpful inputs. Indeed it will be better for not the entire Outreach to be moved here, as the admin load will be higher than what it is now. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 09:13, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
