Please semiprotect template:MediaWiki links (edittalklinkshistory), this handbook template wasn't vandalized often in the past six months. -- Omniplex (w:t) 02:59, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, I intended to replace the link to mw:MediaWiki roadmap by Configuration settings for cases when admins need to modify local settings as above. If only developers can do that it's dubious, which link is less irrelevant. -- Omniplex (w:t) 14:20, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Poke me if I'm not on the right page to ask for a username change. I'm a French user known as jd on fr.wikipedia and on www.wikimediafoundation.org (wikimedia:User:Jd). Since User:Jd has no contributions here, but does exist, I guess a change from Meanos to Jd is possible, isn't it? Thank you ^_^ jd  01:03, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm afraid it's not possible, at least it is not possible for a bureaucrat. Who could give you the password, if the receiving account has already one associated with it? --M/ 15:31, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Emmanuel Chanel is more famous than Angelix as my nick. On Wikipedia, I'm mainly on IRC and I use "Emmanuel Chanel". You see my registered email address is emmanuelchanel@gmail.com . I want to change all usernames on Wikimedia from Angelix to Emmanuel Chanel(The one of ja.wikinews has been changed. Thx, Aphaia.) --Angelix 13:35, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Block request

Need an edit deleted

Hi - I'm sorry that I'm probably posting this request in the wrong place (is there an Admin Noticeboard here?), but I recently made an edit on Meta.Wiki without logging in, and would like to have it deleted by an Admin so I can do it again without my IP showing. Can an Admin please e-mail me and I'll give the details. Thanks. --ZimZalaBim 14:03, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

If nobody has helped yet, just email me the page name and I will delete it. --Dbl2010 02:56, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, I just sent you an e-mail. --ZimZalaBim 21:20, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Wikiversity front door

Please update the locked Wikiversity front door (http://www.wikiversity.org/) per my revisions at Www.wikiversity.org_template/temp. Thanks! :-) Rogerhc 23:19, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

p.s. I am here seeking help per this instruction:

  1. to get the attention of a Meta-sysop you can put a notice on Meta:Requests for help from a sysop

(Talk:Www.wikiversity.org_template/temp)

p.p.s. I found the procedure for submitting edits to the Wikiversity front door convoluted and inefficient. Is there not a simpler way? --Rogerhc 23:19, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Template synchronized and updated. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 00:35, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

The message at the wikiversity top states "Please help design the wikiversity.org portal and Wikiversity logo on meta." It should be "Please help design the wikiversity.org template and Wikiversity logo on meta." Please make correction. Shyam (T/C) 17:20, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, but can it not be only wikiversity.org template instead of wikiversity.org portal template? Shyam (T/C) 21:48, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
We are talking about the main http://www.wikiversity.org portal, so there is no reason to remove this word. guillom 07:48, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism

Could someone please do something about User:Bonaparte? He has been vandalizing userpages (e.g. User:Khoikhoi), abusing open proxies, and he's about to violate the 3RR on Requests for permissions by deleting my comment four times. He's used the following IPs so far:

Please note that this user is banned on the English Wikipedia, and also banned from meta.

Khoikhoi 18:09, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for the notice. I banned IPs for 1 day, if this continues they should be banned longer. -- mzlla 19:13, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! Khoikhoi 20:12, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

BTW, shouldn't we check to see if they're open proxies? Khoikhoi 00:24, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Checked. It seems that they are not open proxies. -- mzlla 16:13, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Can someone please block William Mauco (talk · contribs · page moves · block user · block log)? It is highly likely that he is a sockpuppet of Fratele lui Bonaparte, il cunosti? (aka the banned troll Bonaparte on the English Wikipedia). Bonaparte has been known to stalk Mauco there, and the real William Mauco has confirmed that this is not him. Thanks, Khoikhoi 03:20, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Fixed. MaxSem 08:23, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Username change on meta-wiki

Page protection

I think now it's the time to protect the page http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Proposals_for_closing_projects/Closure_of_Moldovan_Wikipedia since Moldovan Wikipedia was already frozen. Take care not to protect the vandalized version in which the vote is not yet closed. This page suffered vandalism attacks in the last month. Thank you, and thank you all who supported the closure of Moldovan Wikipedia. It's good that now that artificial Wikipedia is frozen.--Nicolae 07:30, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Since he tried again enforcing his POV despites many warning (he was already blocked by EssJay in that reason for three days), I put two weeks blocing upon him. Just for your information. Aphaia 08:07, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Sockpuppet of User:Bonaparte

I requested a checkuser of User:Nicolae as a possible sockpuppet of Bonaparte; the check was performed by steward MaxSem, and the results forwarded for comparison against existing records of Bonaparte on en.wiki. The technical evidence confirms that Nicolae is a sockpuppet of Bonaparte. As I have blocked this user previously, and am involved in the checkuser investigation, I would appreciate it if another admin could handle the necessary indef block. Thanks, Essjay (TalkConnect) 22:40, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Due to his unanthorized closure attempt at the vote page, I put three month blocking on him just days ago. Just for your information. I don't know Bonaparte closely, so it would be better anyone knowledgeable handles this case. --Aphaia 16:46, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
Well sure I can block him, but I myself participated in the investigation. Is there any conflict of interest? BTW, there are two users, Diur (talk · contribs · page moves · block user · block log) and Daos (talk · contribs · page moves · block user · block log) that behave the same way and can be qualified as "disruptive socks". I believe they need no checking before blocks. MaxSem 17:05, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
Hm. Diur made three reverts on a same page within 24 hours and all his edits were those reverts. We can consider this account "only disruptive". And Daos is simply rude. I agree we need no further investigations on those accounts, and am going to put indefinite blocking on those two, since it would be apparent Nicolae was back with those accounts to escape his blocking. Aphaia 22:46, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
Bonaparte is a known vandal; why is the block not indefinite on all his accounts? I would make Nicolae's block indefinite, too. Dmcdevit 01:43, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your information. When I (or we, including Essjay) blocked him their identification was unknown. I have no opposition to indefinite blocking, only felt I am already involved and not the right staff to sentence him it. Aphaia 14:41, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
Note: 14:19, 24 December 2006, Jon Harald Søby (Talk | contribs | block) blocked Nicolae (contribs) (infinite, account creation blocked) (unblock) (sockpuppet of Bonaparte)
Bonaparte isn't been blocked yet though. Aphaia 10:38, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
This account is already blocked, please list other sockpuppets here and I'll block. --M/ 10:45, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
Next sock, Mălai mare (talk · contribs · page moves · block user · block log) - blocked indef by me. It's getting boring... MaxSem 21:04, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Banned user on enwiki disrupting Meta

Sysop intervention needed regarding the IP address 208.54.95.129. Here's the story: On the enwiki Bureaucrats' noticeboard, an account posted this thread. Originally, I responded to it, asking that the subject be taken to the Administrators' noticeboard. There was a follow up to my post by the exact IP address I'm reporting here [5]. We were then informed that the rant was being posted by a banned user [6], and it was removed. At about the same time, the IP address posted on the talk page of the page on the Stewards [7], "calling attention" to the same subject and even mentioning the discussion on the enwiki Bureaucrats' noticeboard. I posted to the talk page to make it known that it was a banned user on enwiki that was posting, but now the same IP has continued to rant on the talk page, ignoring my post [8]. So we need a sysop to put an end to this, which would seem to be aimed at disrupting Meta in the same fashion it was attempting to disrupt the English-language Wikipedia.
I should also mention that on enwiki the disruption has been taken to the level where a sockpuppet account (ATmobileEditor) was setup apparently with the purpose to continue spamming the Bcrat noticeboard, which has already been reverted once [9]. Redux 22:31, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia toolserver copy

I've been leaving plaintive notes on the CatScan talk page, the Tools talk page, you name it. I could really use CatScan if the toolserver copy of the English Wikipedia were fixed. Any idea when/if this might happen? In the meantime, is there any other tool that can do searches like CatScan? Thanks. Her Pegship 20:33, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

This isn't something an admistrator or bureaucrat can help you with. For questions related to the server, see the #wikimedia-toolserver on Freenode (IRC). // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 02:04, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

PAGESINNS

Please reenable magic word PAGESINNS, it's used on WM:HELP. The local setting is probably $wgAllowSlowParserFunctions = true; -- Omniplex (w:t) 00:46, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Only a developer can do that; try asking in #wikimedia-tech or filing a bug request. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 05:21, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
I just disabled PAGESINNS by default because it was too slow, and you think if you ask nicely I might immediately re-enable it again? It needs to be rewritten so that it doesn't require a full scan of the page table on every page view. -- Tim Starling 03:17, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
We're on Meta here, it has only 12,528,888 pages, and loads of obscure namespaces. -- Omniplex (w:t) 21:58, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Check user action across domains

Needed check for s:cs:User:Kiki and s:cs:User:Zacheus who vandalised cs.wikisource today. We guess they are sockpuppets of the arbitred and blocked account w:cs:Wikipedista:Vít Zvánovec. He created some sockpuppets on the cs.wiki in last days and vandlised there; his sockpuppets were checked positively by w:cs:User:Wikimol (checkuser). By the way, I assume, the it is the same m:User:Zacheus and w:en:User:Zacheus who tried to change blocked pages of w:en:User:Vít Zvánovec and m:Requests for comments/Cswiki issues 2 in last days several times. The user announced juristical steps against one of mine admin. We are quite sure there will be other attacks next time. Thanks much for help. -jkb- 17:39, 24 September 2006 (UTC) (also: s:cs:User:-jkb- - sysop bureaucrat).

You may want to try your request at theRequest_for_CheckUser_information page. This page is for help from Meta admins--Cspurrier 21:01, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

reverting

Hi,

NCSU has imported wiki software but will not give even faculty sysop rights. They do contend that we can revert unwanted changes and then point at the meta help page here. I am pretty sure reverting requires sysop privs (which I have for af.wiki and af.wiktionary) but the help page does not say so. Could you clarify the help page?

Jcwf 21:56, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

To revert with out admin rights, click on "history" and click on the time and date of the earlier version, then click edit, then click save. Rollback (one click reverts) does require admin rights--Cspurrier 20:59, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Special page

I do not know where should I put these kinds of requests, so I am puuting here --- I think we need a special page for knowing that how many users have a particular page in their watchlist. If an article has not been included in anyone of the user's watchlist, somebody can have more concern about those articles to avoid vandalism. Please put your suggestions. Shyam (T/C) 07:16, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Such a page already exists but is available to sysops only (to avoid vandalism on those pages): Special:Unwatchedpages. guillom 07:48, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for letting me know. I was not aware of this page. Shyam (T/C) 13:32, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Can someone please tell Nicolae (talk · contribs · page moves · block user · block log) that non-admins cannot close discussions like this? Please see the edit history of the page. Thanks. Khoikhoi 02:06, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

I am afraid meta admin has no such right to close project related discussion ... perhaps spcom people are more appropriate to decide that? --Aphaia 02:21, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
