Problem: TemplateData is an important tool for making editing easier for newcomers. However, because it doesn't allow wikilinks and other formatting in the template description and parameter descriptions, its usefulness is limited in VisualEditor. It also makes it insufficient to suffice for template documentation pages, meaning that many have to have a largely redundant "parameters" section in addition to their TemplateData section. en:Template:Format TemplateData, a crude workaround, has numerous flaws.
Proposed solution: Build functionality into TemplateData to enable wikilinks and other basic formatting.
Support – this would make it possible to use TemplateData as the only parameter documentation for most templates which has obvious maintainability advantages. GKFX (talk) 22:46, 29 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Support Wikilinks and wikitexts can't function in TemplateData is the obvious problem when editing templates, we want to provide information. Thingofme (talk) 14:58, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Support Oh, yes, it's really strange this basic feature doesn't exist yet: there are many, many cases where you can't include all relevant information about a parameter: the best solution is to be able to add a wikilink to the relevant section of the documentation.
