#WPWPCampaign2021: Learning and evaluation

Many thanks for participating in the WPWP campaign.

We are glad about the level of participation, this year and we are excited to inform you that over 900 volunteers around the world added photos to more than 250,000 articles in 298 languages Wikipedia. This year, we surpassed the 2020 edition's milestone by over 170%.

We are in the process of evaluating the WPWP campaign this year and we need your help. We'd love to get your feedback. Your feedback will allow us to better meet your expectations for the campaign in the next editions.

[Small wiki toolkits] Fourth Bots workshop at Wikimedia Hackathon 2022 (May 20-22nd)

Hello, The fourth workshop on the topic of "Running popular bots on wikis" is coming up - several sessions will be run as part of it at the upcoming Wikimedia Hackathon 2022 (May 20-22nd). This workshop will introduce participants to a few popular bots in the Wikimedia ecosystem, how to set them up on the wikis, and tackle problems concerning the setup. Hello, The fifth workshop on the topic of "Hosting bots and scripts on Toolforge" is coming up - it will take place on Thursday, June 30th at 16:00 UTC. You can find more details on the workshop and a link to join here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Small_wiki_toolkits/Workshops#How_to_host_a_bot_on_Toolforge. This workshop will introduce participants to Toolforge, how to create a developer account, access it via ssh, create and run bots and scripts, etc. You can add your discussion ideas in the etherpad doc linked from the workshops page. View it! Tool View it! Tool update Sept. 2022 Thank you for signing up for View it! updates! As a reminder, you can view details about how to install the View it! user script or use the Toolforge tool on our meta page. Please use the talk page there to contact the team! August happenings We held two community conversations, one in person at Wikimania 2022/Pittsburgh and one virtual during a Wikimedians in Residence Exchange Network meeting. During both meetings we discussed final design of View it!, and results refinement and querying. Check the August updates for notes from both meetings. View it! is working across all Wikimedia projects, and we are currently working on multi-lingual functionality. Coming in September Currently plan to focus development on multilingialism, on-wiki/editor features for the user script, and extending the search functions on Toolforge. We are continuing to respond to user feedback and finalizing design. Action to take Install Beta script and see how it can used to add new images to articles. All editors are invited to share the tool with their local wiki communities, or incorporate it into relevant local templates, such as infoboxes. If you do so, please let us know about it, so we can ensure backwards compatibility for that use case as we continue development! Feel free to leave comments on our Discussion page

Hello! The eighth workshop on the topic of "How to interact with Wikidata via Pywikibot" is coming up - it will take place on Friday, October 7th at 16:00 UTC. This workshop will summarize how to access and save information to Wikidata, including through page generators and queries*, using Pywikibot. As a reminder, you can view details about how to install the View it! user script or use the Toolforge tool on our meta page. Please use the talk page there to contact the team! October Update September/October Happenings View it! is now multilingual! We are currently working on tool localization. Please consider helping us! View it! now has advanced search option on Toolforge, simply toggle on to enable searching with a different property constraint, free text, specific resolution, and quality assessment. Advanced search allows for searching by Commons Categories which have an associated P373. Commons Category search will also show sub-categories for more specific results. Coming Soon We are releasing a new version of View it! that will implement some of the Toolforge functionality into the on-Wiki experience. We are thinking about ways for View it! results to show up on page as an image grid, gallery or other form, without leaving the page. Please let us know what your idea/preference is. Integrating editor features such as the ability to add an image from View it! or remove a faulty statement. Action to take Share your thoughts with us about the interface! What would you like the final product to look like? Should it be on-wiki? Preference on location of the button/link? We are open to ideas - please share them with us. View it! has been expanded and will have an official launch demo session Jan. 12th

Goat View it! results View it! Tool update Jan. 2023 Big news, View it! users! Over the last two months, View it! has been expanded to two versions. Our new full version shows images within the wiki content page, and the "View" tab displays a gallery of images without leaving the site you are on, as you can see at right. We have rebranded the original version, which utilizes the "View" tab to link to our Toolforge search results, to "Lite". We invite you to switch to full version and try it out! Major changes: The full version includes an image carousel on each content page (at the top, under the article navigation buttons) which can be expanded for pagination. You may notice the "View" button has moved to between the "Read" and "Edit" buttons - the View button is in the same place for both versions and we felt this was a better placement for editors. In full version, clicking the "View" tab will take you to a full-screen gallery. Action to take Follow the installation instructions and try out the full version! Personal Invitation to the Open Innovation Café of Wikimedia Deutschland

Hello @RukayatAjeigbe:

This year we are setting out on a journey to build a new format for the Wikimedia Movement, a safe space that will foster innovation and allow members of our community to experiment with and build new ideas for Free Knowledge. This is why we would like to extend a personal invitation to you to join our Open Innovation Café where we want to tell you all about what we are planning and how we would love you to be involved!

We are reaching out to people, affiliate representatives and Wikimedia community members who specifically indicated in some capacity that they are either working on or interested in innovation in the Wikimedia Movement and/or recommendation no. 9 “Innovate in Free Knowledge” of the Movement Strategy 2030. We will be a diverse, international group. The Café will be done in English and will be hosted by us. There is no preparation required, simply drop in as you are.

Dear @RukayatAjeigbe:, We saw that you were not able to make it to our Open Innovation Café, but we have set up a page on Meta-Wiki documenting our Re-Imagining UNLOCK journey. So be sure to have a look at what we are planning and join any future discussions! In short: We are setting up a new innovation format for the WIkimedia Movement, but we cannot do this on our own!

How can you get involved? We have created a quick 4-question survey (anonymous) that will help us in better understanding the needs and challenges of our Movement in innovating in Free Knowledge.
