IRC cloak

Hi. I see that you applied for a wikipedia/ cloak. However, we cannot give you a cloak without a registered nickname. So, you'd have to register your nick, pennstation, and send a memo to wmfgc, confirming that you indeed want a cloak. It appears to have been a slight oversight. I'll try to change it to wikimedia/ soon. As for penn-station, this part has to stay, because it has to match your username. And since spaces aren't allowed in the cloaks, we have to put dashes instead. --FiliP ██ 07:56, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Main Page

Hi, I am working on an ambitious restructuring of greatly outdated main pages of meta in all languages which were unfortunately reverted. The person has been away ever since so I do not know if he has any specific objections. On a seperate note, I noticed you preferred www over en. Is there any reason for this? I do not care either way but for example the french main page links to relevant French wikis at the moment. -- とある白い猫 ^chi? 21:18, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Yes, I edited the Main Page just because some links were broken. I put www since this site was meta, but en seems to be better because the initial (default) screen is set to English and users are able to change language using selector. Although the links with www now bring users to en pages by default as you added "/wiki" [1], en in the links might be easier for users to understand, I think.

Anyway, the Japanese main page メインページ is much more outdated. I would like to update it, if I have a chance... --Penn Station 05:35, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

The global message has already been sent (in English to wikis that didn't translate it), so translating Requests_for_comment/Activity_levels_of_advanced_administrative_rights_holders/Global_message/ja won't actually change the message already sent. English/Japanese translations

Dear Penn Station, I am contacting you to introduce myself. My name is Jessica Robell and I have recently joined the Wikimedia Foundation as a part of the fundraising team. My work will be focused to a large extent around translations. I am very interested in finding engaged Wikipedians, such as yourself, who would be interested in contributing with their time to translate shorter text from English to Japanese. A warm thank you for your contributions you have made so far! We will continue using the translation extension for this purpose. We have for example recently posted a 'Thank you letter' from the Wikimedia Foundation's ED Sue Gardner using the translation extension. Translate some names for hundreds software projects including MediaWiki

Hello, I'm writing you because you subscribed to a Language support team. As you know, Wikimedia projects exist in almost 300 languages; supporting them all is a big effort so we partner with other organisations. One small but visible thing we miss is that many interwiki links in sidebar (among others) don't offer a translation of the language name when hovered. We're now able to translate 100 more language names in your language.

If you're interested, I can create you an account to submit translations on the CLDR web tool (within June 14): please send an email to ask one and I'll follow up with instructions. URGENT: Please sign new Wikimedia confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information now

This is a reminder to acknowledge and sign the new Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information. As you know, your volunteer role in Wikimedia projects gives you access to secure and sensitive information.

The new version includes one major change.

• There is a change regarding the way personal data may be released. Accordingly, functionaries must notify the Wikimedia Foundation at check-disclosurewikimedia.org before releasing data, in order to obtain a written approval for doing so. The Foundation will respond within 10 days. However, for emergencies, such as cases involving threats of violence, functionaries may release the personal data without such explicit permission, but they should notify the Foundation immediately following the disclosure. If they choose not to disclose the data, the request for disclosure should be forwarded to the Foundation's emergency email address (emergencywikimedia.org).

There are also some wording changes that were made to more closely align the language with evolving industry norms, best practices and laws. The most notable of these has been the change of the term "nonpublic information" to "nonpublic personal data". None of these changes are intended to make fundamental changes to the scope or practice of the policy but we know they could appear as such, hence wanted to flag them.

The aforementioned changes require users that have already signed the previous version of the policy to sign the new version as well.

We therefore ask that you to sign the updated version. Signing the agreement is tracked on Phabricator's Legalpad. An online guide is available to help you with signing the agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign. If you have already received this message and signed the updated agreement, you need not sign it again. Once is sufficient. Note: please bear in mind that if you still haven’t signed the updated version of the Confidentiality Agreement by February 13, 2019 your rights will be removed.
