Welcome to Meta!

Hello, Jordissim77. Welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). Happy editing!

Hello

Are you the same person as User:Jordissim? PiRSquared17 (talk) 23:54, 6 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Yes indeed - the system wouldn't let me log in under Jordissim saying it didn't exist, yet it wouldn't let me create a user going by that name since apparently it was already taken. The more I try the less I understand... By the way, just before I read your text I wrote one of my own. In a nutshell: how can I be of assistance? Thanks again, --Jordissim77 (talk) 00:28, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
My fields of expertise (if any) are probably some physics I haven't forgotten yet, ICT-related healthcare development, trans-disciplinary international cooperation, and architecture. To be honest, "Jack of all trades, master of none" probably fits me better. My job description states "senior research project manager", which is a vague way to say I'm neither skilled enough for base science nor cynical enough for upper decision-making. However, maybe some of the experience I've gathered over the years could be useful here. I sincerely hope so. Regards,

Hello (Hola) Jordissim. You should be able to log in as "Jordissim" by visiting Special:UserLogin. The password for "Jordissim" should be the same as on Wikipedia, because of single user login. Really. If it's not the same, then there is a technical problem that needs to be addressed quickly. Are you going to ask for global IP block exempt soon (or for global unblock)? See SRIPBE. Just so you know, I don't have the technical ability to unblock you or give you global ip block exemption, as I'm not a steward (I am however a global sysop, which is somewhat related, but not really). There's really no reason to wait. Of course, you'll be able to edit all Wikimedia projects in a few days. May I suggest you edit articles related to your interests on Wikipedia? I assume you know that Wikipedia is available in many languages, including Spanish and Catalan. Did you know that the Catalan Wikipedia was the second language version (after English) to have articles? In the mean time, you may contribute to translations on Meta in Spanish/Catalan. Of course, you do not need to do any of these things. PiRSquared17 (talk) 01:10, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot, I'll do as suggested - though I strongly suspect the problem lies in my computer. I'm aware of the rules, and I'll try and eliminate the double identity ASAP. I'm about to list the languages according to the Babylon examples. I anticipate two problems: 1) a general one, namely Catalan articles being systematically vandalised (been there, suffered that); and 2) my being used to a certain style set by the European Commission for all papers, our dear officialese which is definitely too stiff and pretentious (you've read so far - I rest my case). It's far more apparent in English and French than in Catalan or Spanish. However, I'll do my best.
Aside from translating, I'm very interested in taking part in the shaping process of Wikipedia. I've got some experience in onthology (information theory, not philosophy). I've seen quite a few entries that, in my opinion, were classified from the start under a wrong category, and have thus become more and more biased as editions were made to the point of either unintelligibility or downright incoherence (take a look at "Omniscience" - even the Talk Page is mostly preposterous - including a very stupid reply of my own).
I'll try to stick to the rules as much as possible and, with your permission, perhaps I'll ask you a couple of questions should a doubt arise - all advice is welcome. Nice talking to you, see you around!

Hi. There is no rule against having multiple accounts, but there is a rule against abusing multiple accounts, which you obviously aren't doing. ;) An example of abuse is voting (or "!voting"/not-voting - (see also)) using multiple names. If you have any other questions about Wikimedia, or any specific Wikimedia project (e.g. Wikipedia), feel free to ask me. Cheers, PiRSquared17 (talk) 02:15, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
