editHi! Some users and stewards were wondering on IRC about your recent global account locks. While we of course see no problems on them, could you please add a reason in the "Other/additional reason" field for the next ones? :) Best regards. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 23:38, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
- Hi, I think you mislocked User:Jon Harald Søby (
who I alreayd unlockededitconflict: Snowolf was faster): that's his personal account, not his in office account. --Vituzzu (talk) 00:06, 14 November 2012 (UTC)- Yep, that account is his personal one, as shown by his community elected rights on multiple wikis. Please exercise caution when using these advanced and powerful tools. Snowolf How can I help? 00:08, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
- Cleaning up user rights/permissions for a large number of former contractors/employees; assumed work account bc it was found on internal, but apparently it isn't actually a WMF internal wiki. thx for the revert - dc
- Honestly is find quite hard to mislock a 140.000 edits and I'm not so sure about other locks you made, at least two accounts don't seem to be in office (or at least in office-only) ones, who did make the list? --Vituzzu (talk) 00:31, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Daisy, I've just looked through all the locks you made, and noticed a couple of issues. mw:User:NeilK has recently updated his user page to say that he will still probably contribute as a volunteer and made some edits in September. User:Amuszalski was renamed to User:Aaron (WMF) - this account also needs to be locked. To anyone reading this: What is the policy on removing user rights (both global and local) from a locked ex-staff account? Thehelpfulone 01:02, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, this was very confusing. It's true I had my account "upgraded" into WMF-ness when I worked there, but I thought I had had my privileges sufficiently downgraded. I have been making edits every now and then (as recently as a few days ago) & follow some WMF technical projects, with some intent of contributing, although admittedly I am not very active. I inquired on IRC and Nemo_bis pointed me here, and Vituzzu kindly unblocked me. NeilK (talk) 22:16, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
- Philippe will be discussing this/official protocol surrounding this with other related members of the staff soon. These blocks were to be made on Meta per his instruction, and as a couple of you are discovering there might be some scattered instances where a staff username has now been converted to a personal username/account (I'm not sure at this point whether we are deciding to allow this or not) or a personal username/account was used on a WMF wiki, was construed as an office account and perhaps should not have been blocked. These should be resolved after the meetings and Philippe mentioned it is generally not a big deal because the one-offs can be reverted, as snowolf has already done for jon soby. if you have random knowledge of specific usernames that should/should not be blocked, feel free to let me know here and I can add it to my notes to Philippe. -dc
- The issue is not really the reversibility of such actions. It's true, we can revert them, but in most cases, they might just slip by. JHS is a long time contributor we're all familiar with, which is why we noticed that one, and then Vito went back to check the others, but had you simply done the others, they might have just slipped by. I can only say that, as I told Philippe months and months ago, what needs to be done is to have a standardized naming and account procedure for staff, with the results of it logged here on Meta in a list of staff-only accounts. This also brings up the outstanding issue of the enormous amount of rights bundled in the global group 'Staff', which are incredibly powerful and incredibly complicated. They should really be unbundled and granted on a need and knowledge basis, as this example shows. Jhs is a very experienced user and if we hadn't noticed he'd have poked us, but not everybody knows that when they get a message saying either "Your password is wrong" or "Enable your cookies" when they try to log in (I can never remember which it is) that their account has been locked, a good chunk of contributors do not know what a lock is, let alone how it works and how to contact the stewards to revert it. (as a side note, please familiarize yourself with w:Wikipedia:Tips/How to sign comments). Snowolf How can I help? 10:46, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Sorry man
editApparently you emailed me, but I don't seem to have gotten it. If it helps, my address is my user name at the google email client. (Cleverly worded to avoid bots picking up addresses?) All the best. Timothyjosephwood (talk) 00:12, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

Willingness to help
editFuture changes
The Wikimedia Foundation Android app team are working on making it easier to edit on mobile phones. You can read more about these plans. If you have an Android phone and speak at least two languages you can help testing in English. Tell Dchen (WMF) you want to be part of the testing by writing on her talk page or email her.
I am willing to be on the part of testing. I too face a lot of problem(a list has not yet been made) while editing in my android phone, as do others... I am fluent in English and Bengali as native language, along with Dutch as lower intermediate level.
I would be happy to test nest new features and help in the mean while.

Account creator
editHello Daisy. I hope that this message finds you well. I see that you were granted account creator permissions in 2016 for some email campaign you were running as part of a research project. Do you still require them? If not, we can have them removed and re-granted back when you need them (courtesy ping to JSutherland (WMF) due to James granting those in the first place). Best regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 10:36, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi User:MarcoAurelio, I don't currently need them. Fine to remove/re-grant if needed in the future. Thanks! Dchen (WMF) (talk) 15:25, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
