WiR at the University of Pittsburgh

Dear Friend, I am in the process of drafting a grant proposal to WMF to fund the position of Wikmedian in Residence at the University of Pittsburgh. I am looking for advisers for myself related to this position. My goals as a WiR will be to recruit and train medical content contributors and train them on how to edit. I will be contacting the Medical School and Nursing Schools while I am in this position. I will also be looking for translators since the population of international students at Pitt is quite large. I would like to bring you in to speak to medical students, staff, instructors and researchers to explain the benefits of including editing assignments in their curriculum since you are a physician and probably will have a better reception. Predictions of Wikipedia's end

Hi Bluerasberry/Archive 4, I hope you remember me from en-wiki? I have been following w:Predictions of Wikipedia's end which you started there for quite some time and have even tried importing it to Simple English Wkipedia, so far without success.

Since I am unable to edit it myself, I just wanted to tell you that one thing I am trying to change in that article is referring to wiki-admins as moderators (the sources do not use this terminology). Just a heads-up: I hope this is not construed by the powers-wielders around here as editing by proxy, and that if someone decides to change the article on en-wiki in this respect they will not get into trouble? @Ottawahitech: Yes, I remember you. Check your signature - it has an open "small" tag. Although I do not know your circumstances I know that you have a ban there, including for editing by proxy.

I executed the import to simple:Predictions of Wikipedia's end. I hope that helps.

Someone else is debating the admins versus mods issue. I do not feel strongly either way. I do not think there are clear definitions anywhere for either term or their distinction, and I also think that different organizations use the terms in different ways. I am unable to enter any debate about this.

This is probably the limit of how I can engage with you. I sympathize with banned users who have a history of good contributions but I do not have capacity to collaborate with banned users or look into their cases. I hope you understand. With Wiki NYC I am collaborating with the group Online SOS Network to help users report harassment, which may include your situation. This group cannot promise relief to individuals, but if you experienced harassment and want to share anything for the sake of data and research which might contribute to change after 3+ years then I can invite you to briefly make any reports you like there. Hi Bluerasberry/Archive 4, I’m a product manager at the Wikimiedia Foundation. My team's next assignment is to design and build a tool for people who organize editathons. (Here's the project page, which I’ve just inherited from another PM).  Since this project was started by your Wishlist proposal, I assume both that you are an editathon organizer and that you are well informed about the project’s progress to date.

Inspire Campaign on Measuring Community Health

Do you have an idea about how to measure the health of your community? Do you want to review ideas that others have submitted? Through August 10th, we are inviting ideas on how to capture the well-being of Wikimedia communities, in terms of matters like conflict resolution, effective content creation, and being able to contribute in a collaborative environment. Ideas can be focused on either quantitative techniques, such as gathering raw data, or qualitative techniques, like surveying contributors. If you are submitting an idea, guidance is available for how to move your idea into implementation, such as through a grant or starting a Phabricator task to engage with developers.

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018

Greetings,

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.
