Help us understand Toxicity on English WikipediaEdit

Hi! You're receiving this message because you signed up as a participant to the m:Research:Detox project. We have just launched a Wikilabels campaign to collect more information on Toxicity in Wikipedia. If you'd like to help, please rate a few comments via the Discussion quality WikiLabels campaign (Warning: comments may contain distressing content).

Thanks for your participation during the Inspire Campaign focused on outreach to outside knowledge networks from February 2017. I'm interested in hearing your experience during the campaign, so if you're able, I invite you to complete this brief survey to describe how you contributed to the campaign and how you felt about participating. I want to improve how campaigns are run, so let me know if there's something that could be done better for next time.

Please feel free to let me know on my talk page if you have any questions about the campaign or the survey. Thanks! I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 18:34, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

Wikimedian in Residence BoF at Wikimania 2017Edit

My name is David Alves (User:Horadrim~usurped), and I'm an Wikipedian in Residence at RIDC NeuroMat (User:Horadrim). I've reach your contact through the Wikimedian in residence page in Outreach. As you may know, Wikimania 2017 is coming! I am here because, as a fellow WiR, I believe this would be a great opportunity for us to share experiences, discuss difficulties and exchange solutions, creating a community among us capable of supporting in other projects that would benefit from residents. In that sense, I have submitted a proposal of a Birds of a Feather activity to Wikimania that you can check out here. I hope to count with your support in this project and would like to invite you to join us if you participate in Wikimania. In case of any doubts, please feel free to contact me, either in my talk pages or by e-mail at david.alves

Thank you very much! ‎Horadrim~usurped (talk) 00:33, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

Wikipedia Welcomes Medical StudentsEdit

I have created Wikipedia Welcomes Medical Students as a part of the Wikipedia Welcomes X program. I invite your suggestions on both the programs. I also invite you to develop sample guidance material as well as the prototype so that they could be made use of if and when they can be made use of at such events. DiptanshuTalk 10:18, 5 August 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, I added a link and some talk page discussion. Blue Rasberry (talk) 16:53, 7 August 2017 (UTC)

WiR at the University of PittsburghEdit

Dear Friend, I am in the process of drafting a grant proposal to WMF to fund the position of Wikmedian in Residence at the University of Pittsburgh. I am looking for advisers for myself related to this position. My goals as a WiR will be to recruit and train medical content contributors and train them on how to edit. I will be contacting the Medical School and Nursing Schools while I am in this position. I will also be looking for translators since the population of international students at Pitt is quite large. I would like to bring you in to speak to medical students, staff, instructors and researchers to explain the benefits of including editing assignments in their curriculum since you are a physician and probably will have a better reception. Please contact me for more information. Best Regards, Barbara (WVS) (talk) 18:08, 11 August 2017 (UTC)

Barbara (WVS) Of course! I am not a physician but otherwise, yes, I have had these conversations before and could help you in the way you are requesting. I will email you. Blue Rasberry (talk) 20:00, 11 August 2017 (UTC)

Thank youEdit

Thank you for your participation in reviewing the Project Grant for the position Wikipedian in Residence at the University of Pittsburgh. I am not posting this thank you simply because you endorsed the project but I believe that community feedback has made this Project better. Please feel free to give additional feedback regarding this grant on the talk page if you would like.

The Best of Regards, Barbara (WVS) (talk) 22:57, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi. You may have already been informed, or picked it up through the notifications, but I thought it would be polite to inform you that your closure of Requests for comment/Interlinking of accounts involved with paid editing to decrease impersonation has been reverted, as it was believed that it closure should be by an admin. I don't have much of an opinion either way, but I felt that you should be informed of the change. - 02:34, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

Predictions of Wikipedia's endEdit

Hi Bluerasberry/Archive 4, I hope you remember me from en-wiki? I have been following w:Predictions of Wikipedia's end which you started there for quite some time and have even tried importing it to Simple English Wkipedia, so far without success.

Since I am unable to edit it myself, I just wanted to tell you that one thing I am trying to change in that article is referring to wiki-admins as moderators (the sources do not use this terminology). Just a heads-up: I hope this is not construed by the powers-wielders around here as editing by proxy, and that if someone decides to change the article on en-wiki in this respect they will not get into trouble? Ottawahitech (talk) 15:02, 28 December 2017 (UTC) Please ping me

@Ottawahitech: Yes, I remember you. Check your signature - it has an open "small" tag. Although I do not know your circumstances I know that you have a ban there, including for editing by proxy.
I executed the import to simple:Predictions of Wikipedia's end. I hope that helps.
Someone else is debating the admins versus mods issue. I do not feel strongly either way. I do not think there are clear definitions anywhere for either term or their distinction, and I also think that different organizations use the terms in different ways. I am unable to enter any debate about this.
This is probably the limit of how I can engage with you. I sympathize with banned users who have a history of good contributions but I do not have capacity to collaborate with banned users or look into their cases. I hope you understand. With Wiki NYC I am collaborating with the group Online SOS Network to help users report harassment, which may include your situation. This group cannot promise relief to individuals, but if you experienced harassment and want to share anything for the sake of data and research which might contribute to change after 3+ years then I can invite you to briefly make any reports you like there. Thanks for your attention to the article I started. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:25, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Thank You!Edit

Hi Lane,

As always, thank you so much for your support. I was elected for a position on the Wikipedia Library Steering Committee, and I have accepted the position. I hope that I can make an impact on the committee and move Wikipedia Library forward.

Sincerely, Rachel Wexelbaum RachelWex (talk) 20:14, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

New community space for IdeaLab on ConnectEdit

Hi folks. If you're receiving this message, you've contributed to IdeaLab or an Inspire Campaign this year. Thanks for participating to develop ideas and review ones from other Wikimedians.

We are preparing some changes to IdeaLab and Inspire Campaigns. One of these changes is a new community space on Connect, where Wikimedians can find each other based on common activities or skills, and ask questions about the space. You are invited to join this community space for IdeaLab, especially if you would ever consider needing to find contributors with certain skills (like design or project management) or would like to offer your skills to others in our movement. To join, please proceed to Connect/IdeaLab and click on the "Add yourself" button on the right. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) 19:53, 21 June 2018 (UTC)

Can we talk about editathon organizer tools?Edit

Hi Bluerasberry/Archive 4, I’m a product manager at the Wikimiedia Foundation. My team's next assignment is to design and build a tool for people who organize editathons. (Here's the project page, which I’ve just inherited from another PM).  Since this project was started by your Wishlist proposal, I assume both that you are an editathon organizer and that you are well informed about the project’s progress to date.

I’m reaching out to event organizers to learn more about their process and needs and to discuss what currently works for them and doesn’t. If that sounds interesting to you, I’d I’d like to set up a time when we might chat via video conference (Google Hangouts).

If you’d like to meet, please send me a contact email where I can reach you and I’ll be in touch. You can reach me here: jmatazzoni[at]

I’m looking forward to meeting you! —JMatazzoni (WMF) (talk) 00:09, 13 July 2018 (UTC)

@JMatazzoni (WMF): I am at Wikimania. Are you here? If so let's meet at the conference. Otherwise can we meet in early August? Yes I am very interested and yes I have organized hundreds of editathons. Blue Rasberry (talk) 16:28, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

Do you have an idea about how to measure the health of your community? Do you want to review ideas that others have submitted? Through August 10th, we are inviting ideas on how to capture the well-being of Wikimedia communities, in terms of matters like conflict resolution, effective content creation, and being able to contribute in a collaborative environment. Ideas can be focused on either quantitative techniques, such as gathering raw data, or qualitative techniques, like surveying contributors. If you are submitting an idea, guidance is available for how to move your idea into implementation, such as through a grant or starting a Phabricator task to engage with developers.

If you're interested, consider joining the Inspire Campaign. I JethroBT (WMF) 17:13, 13 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi Bluerasberry, are you still involved with SecurePoll? In that case, could you please take a look at the question about using this tool on other projects, see Talk:SecurePoll. The last week a terrible voting occurred on NL Wikipedia about a sysop. Thanks and kind regards, Ellywa (talk) 12:53, 28 August 2018 (UTC)

I replied, please see that talk page. Blue Rasberry (talk) 13:12, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
This was quick, thanks :-). Ellywa (talk) 13:37, 28 August 2018 (UTC)

BMJ account redistribution (The Wikipedia Library)Edit

Hi - according to our records you received a free account for BMJ through The Wikipedia Library. Because we’ve used up all of our allocated accounts, and it’s been some time since they were distributed, we want to redistribute any accounts that aren’t being used to users on our waitlist.

If you’re still using, or plan to use, your BMJ access, no problem! Simply head over to the Library Card platform, log in, and request a renewal of your account. You should be able to do this from your user page, or the BMJ signup page. If you can’t find the renewal button, or have any other issues or questions about this, please feel free to leave a message on my talk page. We’ll begin redistributing inactive accounts in a few weeks; if you request renewal after then we should still be able to reactivate your account if we have spots remaining. Thanks, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 12:16, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for the WLL meetup notesEdit

Hi Bluerasberry, I just wanted to thank you for your documentation of the WLL Wikimania meetup. Cheers, Psychoslave (talk) 13:35, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

Community Health Metrics Kit consultationEdit

The Community Health Metrics Kit is a new project to measure more aspects of our communities. If you are interested in metrics, statistics, and measurement of editing and contributing, please join us to discuss how and what the new project should measure! Please share this with anyone else you think may be interested in this work.

This message is also available in other languages. Joe Sutherland (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 22:06, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

The Community Wishlist SurveyEdit

You get this message because you’ve previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey. I just wanted to let you know that this year’s survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until 11 November: Community Wishlist Survey 2019.

You can vote from November 16 to November 30. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won’t send out a separate reminder to you about that. /Johan (WMF) 11:24, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018Edit

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.

Kind regards
On behalf of Wikipedia and Education UG, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 11:44, 10 November 2018 (UTC)

Tools and retentionEdit

I answered your question about retention at Community Wishlist Survey 2019/Bots and gadgets/Globalize some of Twinkle's functionality. Thank you for asking. There is a proposal I think excellent for fixing this problem at Community Wishlist Survey 2019/Citations/Dealing with unsourced additions - "citation needed" button.
