bot template @svwiki
Why do you insist on removing the "site" parameter from the bot template? At svwiki we use it to distinguish between local bot (driven by the user normally active at sv.wikipedia) from the bots operated by users normally working from other sites, in your case meta. --MagnusA (talk) 17:45, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
- I am sorry and will add the parameter. Today I globally created my bot user page on all languages in the project and have simply user {{bot}}, little things like this are to be dealt with now! :) ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 17:47, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

- See Steward_requests/Bot_status#Global_bot_status_for_User:Addbot, also per d:Wikidata:Wikidata_migration many projects still need their own approval. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 20:48, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Please stop for a moment
I blocked you on huwiki for the period of one hour. Though your edits are absolutely useful you are flooding or recent changes page which makes it useless for our editors. You are going to get a bot right within a short time. I will let you know when you can continue. Thanks for your understanding. Csigabi (talk) 14:43, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
- Please see here where the bot was running for a trial. only 28 edits were performed. It would also be great if you could pop onto User:Addbot/Wikidata_Summary and provide a translated edit summary for hu! ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 14:45, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
Hallo. I suggest you use the following translation: "Bot: Migrating X interwiki links, now provided by Wikidata on d:qxxxxx" = Bot: X interwiki link migrálva a Wikidata d:qxxxxx adatába. I will unblock you now, so that you can continue with the rest of your 32 trial edits. Csigabi (talk) 15:02, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks! I have added the edit summary to the bot and will continue the trial (roughly the same number of edits again). After this the bot will not edit until it has the bot flag! ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 15:04, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
- Trial is now complete so you shouldn't see any further edits until the bot is approved. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 15:10, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
Thank you, I really apologize for the temporary block, I thought it had been a runaway bot flooding our recent changes page. In the meantime I left a message on our Bureaucrats' noticeboard, that your bot rights should be granted as soon as possible. We really need your contribution. Cheers. Csigabi (talk) 15:13, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

Finnish translation fixed
Hi, this fix made the Finnish translation a bit ungrammatical. I removed the colon, but the original text was better in my opinion (including the link to our local Wikidata instruction page instead of the overwhelming Wikidata front page). It is your bot, though. ;) --Silvonen (talk) 18:41, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Addbot on hr.wikipedia "migrating" interwiki links
I see no problem of migrating iw's which actually mean deleting iw's from articles. What I would like is that at the same time you are doing a list of articles which do not have items on wikidata. If your bot can not do it, maybe it would be better to leave task of removing iw's to some bot which can be more helpful than yours, thank you! SpeedyGonsales (talk) 18:13, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- The bot is generating a database in the background of pages where it has left interwiki links (ie. conflicts and pages not on wikidata). I just need to build a web frontend for it and you will be able to access all of the infomation :) ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 18:15, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- Please do so, don't leave it just in your DB as we will not like you in future if you will not do so. :D SpeedyGonsales (talk) 18:20, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hehe, I will maybe have it done later today, if not it will have to be monday! I may also try and build a really simple API that wikidata bots could use to see where they need to import links from. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 18:21, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Some interwikis left behind
Hello, can you please check this change? maybe it's a bug or something: the bot left some interwikis behind, and for example didn't move the "eo" and there is not its interwiki on this wikidata entry; about "fr", did not delete "Demander un article" but it is on wikidata as "Articles à créer", and didn't delete "pt" "Artigos pedidos", but that interwiki is on wikidata entry.
Greetings and sorry if this message was confusing :) --UAwiki (talk) 18:23, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- Not confusing at all! See User:Addbot#FAQ. The bot is currently only removing the links that are already on wikidata, other links and pages need to be added by other bots and by editors. The bot is building a database of these links have been left os that they can be added to wikidata! ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 18:29, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- There is an anti-abuse filter active [1] in eswiki to prevent old interwiki bots re-add deleted iw links. Your bot triggered the filter many times. [2] --Kizar (talk) 19:06, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- Looking into it, thanks for the report! ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 19:11, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
- There is an anti-abuse filter active [1] in eswiki to prevent old interwiki bots re-add deleted iw links. Your bot triggered the filter many times. [2] --Kizar (talk) 19:06, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
For a while, could your bot removes interwikis if whole interwikis are moved to wikidata? Remaining interwikis are confusing and hard to check if the linked language is not familiar. Remaining interwikis should be handled by human. -- ChongDae (talk) 01:12, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- Currently it will only remove interwiki links that are on wikidata, At the same time it is generating a database with where it has left interwiki links for all languages and soon there will be a web page where people can list articles that need human attention! ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 01:43, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
Still, many interwiki bots are running and adding interwikis. Remaining interwikis could spread by these bots. Could you schedule your work again? Removing interwiki is not urgent. -- ChongDae (talk) 01:58, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
And in many cases, remaining interwiki is deleted and/or redirected. If the link is deleted or redirected to the matching wikidata entry, could your bot removes these links, too? These remaining links are not need to check by human anymore. -- ChongDae (talk) 03:10, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- Some bots are still adding links but this should all be fixed either now or tomorrow morning, if you see any adding all of the interwiki links back after a bot has removed them it would be great if you could link me to the diff here!
- There are 22,000,000 articles to remove interwiki links from across all languages, To make life easier to find those links that are conflicting / deleted / sections etc. the plan is to remove every other interwiki link now. After this hopfully we will have a much shorter list of articles to do a second check on using the DB the bot is building and using an enhanced script trying to resolve conflicts, remove deleted links, e.t.c which uses much more processing power and time than the script currently running! ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 03:21, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
I think that Addbot could add edit summary about unremoved interwikis? If all interwikis are removed, your bot leaves "remove completed", otherwise leaves "XX links are left behind". -- ChongDae (talk) 10:25, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- Could easily be possible. I may have a look at doing it later today! ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 11:35, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Conflict due to incorrect interwikis on Simple English article
I may have made this worse. I hope you can help. Simple:Bihari language had interwikis for the Bihari people articles by mistake. I moved the page on Simple English to Bihari languages (plural), then tried to edit the interwikis on Wikidata. However, it won't take what I'm trying to do. It looks like items Q135305 and Q1277604 are duplicates. Is that enough information to explain the problem? --Auntof6 (talk) 01:39, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hi there. I think the perfect page for you to report this to is d:Wikidata:Interwiki_conflicts! It has been created especially for conflict cases and I am sure the users over there can help out! Addbot-Ar.wiki
Hi Addshore.
From last night me and Avocato start to using this bot in ar.wiki to removing interwiki links from pages that already have there links on Wikidata and create Arabic items in Wikidata when there is no interwiki links. the new code has some features more than your code.
- the code does not remove that interwiki links has conflict
- the code insert {{Interwikiconflict}} when find a conflict like this edit
- We have a report about conflicts here now
Could you pleas add this features in your bot?--عباس ☢ 14:41, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- My bot does effectively have all of these features but they are applied in a slightly different way. My bot will leave links if they conflict on wikidata, when it leaves a link it adds this to a DB so it knows where they are, I am in the process of building a web page to display these links on a per language basis so people can go around and find and fix them! This will hopefully all be done early next week! ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 15:15, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
Sounds great. good luck my friend.--عباس ☢ 16:19, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

French : User:Addbot/Wikidata Summary
Hi Addshore. Just a little french correction here. Thanks for all your work. :)

After this discussion, please use this syntax [3]. Former formulation wasn't correct at all, so you're bot has been temporary blocked. When he will be updated, Addbot can be able to be unblocked and to run again. (Sorry for my English lol) — Hawk-Eye (talk) 14:29, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

- Sorry I got logged out of my ftp session and did not realise the edit had not gone through. Also it would be great if you could use the iwrun subpage rather than blocking the bot. It should be fine to unblock the bot in around 15 more mins. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 17:24, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Not all iwiki removed
Hi, please see this edit, bot does not remove pa:ਨਾਮੀਬੀਆ. To remove it the second bot edit is needed. Multiple bot edits are not good idea, its generate excess records in page history and watch lists. Could you please reconfigure the bot to stay the page unchanged until all iwiki can be removed using singe edit? -- Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 16:25, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- As said in a section above. There are 22,000,000 articles to remove interwiki links from across all languages (around 250,000,000 links), To make life easier to find those links that are conflicting / deleted / sections etc. the plan is to remove every other interwiki link now. After this hopfully we will have a much shorter list of articles to do a second check on using the DB the bot is building and using an enhanced script trying to resolve conflicts, remove deleted links, e.t.c which uses much more processing power and time than the script currently running! ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 16:43, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

- There isn't really any excess, I can tell you that this run the bot will make about 835,582 more edits. As said above somewhere else on this talk page Addbots current main goal is to eliminate millions of interwiki links that are absolutely not needed on pages any longer which using the smallest ammount of resources. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 20:16, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- Perhaps I poorly explained the problem. This is good edit (all links was removed in one edit). This is bad edit (bot make only part of whole work and another edits are required). Please make good edits only. If the bot can not remove all links from the page during one edit, then do not touch the page in this moment. Return to the page in the future. Exception is links to page sections (#) that never will be moved to WD. Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 22:31, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Addbot on mg.wikipedia
Hello, I added the Malagasy translation of the summary message of your bot so it will display Malagasy language message on Malagasy wikis. Best regards, Jagwar grrr... 08:07, 13 March 2013 (UTC)
give it a day or two (@nv)
So you have a userpage; good. I'll keep the block up until I'm done; at nv, all interwikis are to be removed, and your bot just creates double-work. thx Seb az86556 (talk) 01:19, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hi there. I seem to have posted on your talk page on nv at the same time as you posted this message. You currently have 3500 pages on nvwiki that need interwiki links removing. Of course you can do this yourself of the addbot can leave yo with just a few pages left to check links on and fix conflicts. Soon there will be a webpage to show you exactly where these links are. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 01:22, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah. We'll better do it ourselves; it's a good chance to check up on other things in the process. Also, I put the appropriate note on the list. Seb az86556 (talk) 01:24, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, please see the change I have made to nv:Choyoołʼįįhí:Addbot/iwrun this will stop the bot from trying to run even if you remove the block. When you feel you want the bot to run again please just remove the word 'false' from the page and the process will restart. It may be possible that I could make the bot only remove pages where all interwiki links would be removed on nv, would you be interested? ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 01:27, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Chat about Wikidata's affect on the bot community
Hello Addshore. I hope this finds you well. You were kind enough to answer questions for my dissertation project last year on bots and the bot community (primarily on en.wp)...thank you for that assistance. I'm now exploring the role of bots on other language versions of WP and other projects, and I'm wondering if you might have some time to chat on IRC in the next week? Particularly, I'm interested in finding out more about the affect Wikidata is having/will have on both international or interwiki bots and local bot communities on projects. At your convenience, please let me know if you might be able to field some questions and when would be good for you (or if you'd rather communicate in another way). Thank you in advance. Addbot on the french wiki
Hello, I would know how Addbot treat the case of interwiki when one english page is about two French page ?
By example : fr:Tournoi d'ouverture du championnat du Mexique de football 2010, fr:Tournoi d'ouverture du championnat du Mexique de football 2010 and en:2010–11 Mexican Primera División season.
Thanks, CONCACAF-Footballeur (talk) 06:10, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

You made a mistake, when you wrote that geranial is a Z-isomer. in the last edition of the "Citral" article everything was right. See any good book of organic chemistry, which includes the modern stereochemistry, and especially the Cahn-Ingold-Prelog system of naming.

Interwiki comment on nn.wp #3
There are two more versions of the interwiki comments on nn.wp that your current regex does not match; see this diff (both without spaces between the codes, and one with /nb
in addition). Would be nice if you could update your regex to match those two as well. --Njardarlogar (talk) 15:22, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- I have expanded the regex to include these other cases! ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 12:41, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Yout bot is now removing the categories. I wonder if the regex you implemented casts too wide? I am not familiar with PHP regex, so I cannot tell. --Njardarlogar (talk) 13:03, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- I have stopped the bot globally to investigate this. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 13:10, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for developing Addbot. Everything went smoothly until few minutes ago the edit summary made by the bot become gibberish (sample edit). Wikidata Summary with ref. to prev. edit?
Is it possible to add the user name and timestamp of the previous edit to the messages at User:Addbot/Wikidata Summary? This would help us (at de:) a lot. --TMg 22:48, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- I don't quite understand? Could you provide me with an example? ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 22:37, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
- If a user does not use the extended watchlist a bot edit "hides" the previous edit. To fix this the bot should add the user name and the time from the previous edit to the summary. This way we can still see the "hidden" edit in our watchlists. Example summary line:
- Bot: Migrating 15 interwiki links, now provided by Wikidata on d:Q123456 - Previous edit: TMg 22:48, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- It doesn't matter if the user name is linked or not. Also the date format is not very importand. Would be nice to have it localized (e.g. it's 22:48, 8. Mär. 2013 (CET) in the German Wikipedia) but any date is better than no date.
- If a user does not use the extended watchlist a bot edit "hides" the previous edit. To fix this the bot should add the user name and the time from the previous edit to the summary. This way we can still see the "hidden" edit in our watchlists. Example summary line:
- Other questions: How fast does the bot operate? (I wish it could finish within a single day, but I know this is not possible.) Are all namespaces edited or articles only? In which order are the articles edited? Is it possible to edit the articles per w:Category:Main topic classifications? For example: Start with all articles in the w:Category:Agriculture, then Arts and so on. Why? I think this will make the bot run easier to understand for most users. It could make the edits less disturbing because most user are watching articles from a single topic only/mainly. Just an idea. I'm sure it's to complicated. ;-) --TMg 16:25, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- I will try and fiddle with the summary today! The bot operates at great speed making thousands of edits across every language site. In all honesty the bot could probably complete the whole run in a matter of hours. All namespaces that can be on wikidata will be edited by the bot. The bot unfortunately will simply run in order of page ids and there is no real way to change this at the current stage. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 16:50, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- Any progress? --TMg 15:19, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
- Nope, what is the reasoning behind having such infomation? ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 23:45, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
- Several bots do this. Many users find this very helpful. The problem is: A bot edit "hides" the previous edit if you don't use the extended watchlist. This is not a problem if I have only very few bot edits in my watchlist every day. But this bot run will edit all articles. For some days my watchlist will be full of bot edits. I will not be able to see any previous edits. This can be fixed very easily by adding a short "previous edit" hint to the summary. As suggested above. I'm not sure how your bot works but I think you are able to access the required information very easily. As said this doesn't need to be complicated (no links required, no localization required, just copy & paste). --TMg 17:22, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

- Ping? Whats the problem? Localization? You don't need to do this. Simply provide two variables. $username contains the username from the previous edit (in plain text, without a link). $date contains the date from the previous edit in ISO format (e. g. 2013-03-19). Omit the time. That's all we need. Two simple plain text variables. --TMg 19:13, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry I have been away and will try to get onto this on monday! This will pretty much double the number of requests that the bot will make but if it will help I will be happy to add it! ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 17:54, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- Will it run slower because of this? Thats not what we want. We want it to run as fast as possible to get it out of our watchlists as fast as possible. This is more important than a "perfect" summary line. I'm sorry if I made this more complicated. I thought your bot haves the required information anyway. He needs to request the current page. Aren't the timestamp of the current revision and the name of the last editor included? --TMg 21:53, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
- I would have to rewrite part of the framework to allow it all to be taken from a single request, which is doable, it would probably slow the bot down but not by much. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 12:45, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Also on DE the bots page contains a line which translates roughly to "sparingly and slowly make changes to the articles to the server not to load too much. Bots for the day is a speed of about 5 edits per minute as tolerated. Outside of peak times , more if it is absolutely necessary." Does this mean a set limit of roughly 5epm or so long as the bot takes into account maxlag it may edit faster?
- I only ask as trying to decide exactly what something means through a rather roughly and badly translated text is rather difficult :) ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 12:49, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

I think in this case it will be no problem if you edit faster than 5 epm, as several users said that in the discussion about the interwiki removal. We're all happy if the links are gone as fast as possible ;) Regards --Iste (D) 12:58, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) thats just a general rule. for special cases like this it's possible to go faster. the buerocrats may decide this. --Akkakk (talk) 12:59, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- I'm also very much in favor of a faster run. I am sure a bureaucrat will allow this as soon as the bot has started with a couple of thousand good and undestructive edits on de.wikipedia. (But probably not before that). --FA2010 (talk) 09:18, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
- When using the api to get the content (which is the preferred way) you can get the user within own request. Use prop=revisions&rvprop=content|timestamp|user. The timestamp is also needed to get edit conflicts and not overwrite the previous edit on bot edit (pass back as basetimestamp= on apis action=edit). 84.182.124.232 18:04, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
- I am aware of this.. But the framework I am currently using does not get the user or last summary. As said above the easiest way to do this could be to use another function in the framework and therefore another request or I would have to rewrite this bit of the framework.
- Adding another request would dramatically increase the total requests for the task and I currently don't have free time to rewrite the part of the framework. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 18:52, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

In the meantime one or two other bots are doing this job in the German Wikipedia. Of course they do not add any information about the last edit in the summary line. What this means: Now it's pointless to make your bot better than the other bots. Skip this. Start your bot with the current summary line. Or don't start it if this would create conflicts with the other bots. Again, I'm very sorry because I made this so complicated and slowed things down. --TMg 20:24, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

AddBot interwiki migration mistakes
I found a mistake where AddBot migrated some links on the disambiguation page bs:Grad (čvor) on bs-wiki (d:Q1541208). "Grad" means "City" and I really don't understand how this got messed up. It is now linked to the en-wiki page "Grade", which is obviously something else. Can you please correct this and also check whether this mistake was made on some other articles. If you think there is a problem that you cannot solve directly, please let me know. You can contact me on my bs-wiki talk page. Thanks in advance. -- Edinwiki (talk) 14:43, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

- Not an issue with the bot but rather an issue with the person that moved the links in the first place. It is very likely that this error has existed within the interwiki links for years and it is only now that the move to wikidata is happening that they have been spotted. This has probably happened with other articles but the bot has too many edits to even consider checking each one, these previous errors with links will just have to be slowly weeded out. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 15:34, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- You are completely right. The error indeed already existed. You are doing a good job with migrating these links. Addbot suggestion
Hi there. I understand that, when migrating langlinks, Addbot will leave a link from xx
to yy
on the xx
-wiki if the relevant item over at d: does not contain the yy
link. However, would it be possible for Addbot to check for langlinks which are de facto already on d:, but just that they might be stored at xx
with the name of a namespace in a different language to yy
's, but in a way that is harmless; i.e. that takes you to the right place anyway should you click on them/type them into the search bar? An example of what I am talking about is [14], where Addbot left a link from cv: to kbd:Template:Lang-ro, presumably owing to d:Q8124898's not containing any links called "kbd:Template:Lang-ro
". However, if you notice, d:Q8124898 contains instead the link kbd:Шаблон:Lang-ro – a link, moreover, that you will see is equivalent to the one stored over at cv: if you type "kbd:Template:Lang-ro" into the cv: search bar. Therefore, I suggest that you update Addbot to treat such link pairs as kbd:Template:Lang-ro and kbd:Шаблон:Lang-ro as equivalent, and, therefore, to remove more of them where they are de facto already stored on d:. It Is Me Here t / c 21:26, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
- Make sense! This was never considered when initially creating the bot. I am looking for a source for all translated namespaces now to add to the bot which can then check for example for both 'Template:' and 'Шаблон:' etc. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 00:15, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Migration
[15] After a truly enormous and great decrease of ca. 400.000 entries in a few days, now the decrease for de.wikipedia seems to be much slower. Is your first run through all articles over, and these are remainders? (That would be awful, since there are still some 600,000 articles in the list). Or does this list not take into consideration all those links removed by the other two bots active on de.wikipedia? I am just trying to understand what the numbers tell us. Can we do anything in de.wikipedia to help you do the rest? --AndreasPraefcke (talk) 12:06, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
- I am checking up on it now and will let you know :) ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 13:16, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
- Well after looking at the code I have made a few tweaks that might make it run a bit fast but you may not notice much difference. Addbot will not know if another bot has visited a dewiki page until it loads the page itself, therefor the number left on de is probably less than the value showing on the page as this is a count of the page addbot has checked, the number will keep adjusting as addbot discovers more pages with the links already removed. Interwiki remains
Hello. Your script (bots.wmflabs.org/~addshore/addbot/index.php) is very nice. Do you allow me to make "feature requests"? It will be nice to have the following options:
- query option for a limit (number of rows shown at once) (directly, e.g.
&limit=200
) - Sorting by namespace and name (maybe separate columns for namespac and name ?), Links or Last Checked (
&sortby=article
) - Quries for only one namespace (e.g.
&namespace=0
- I will try to add these features in the next week! :) ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 12:09, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi Addshore! Can you tell me whether your code for migrating these interwiki links is publicly available somewhere? I'm namely interested in migrating these links from at least the bs.wikipedia, and in the future possibly from some more bs.wiki projects.
