Simple Wikiquote Sitenotice

moved from Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat --MF-W 14:55, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[]

The Simple English Wikiquote has been locked to prevent editing by ordinary users, but there is no site-wide notice (or, indeed, any notice anywhere on the wiki, AFAICT) that informs visitors of that fact. Could a cross-wiki admin please provide such a notice (in "Simple English", of course) over there? - dcljr (talk) 02:27, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[]

I am afraid, Meta sysops can't edit there. You might want to move this request to 'Stewards' noticeboard', as I think Stewards should be the ones able to do the job. If the wiki is closed, sitenotice should be informing that.—Teles «Talk to me ˱@ L C S˲» 03:04, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[]
Actually, there is a sitenotice: q:simple:MediaWiki:Sitenotice but it's not showing. I tried to update the sitenotice id, but nothing happens. Trijnsteltalk 12:39, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[]
I've removed the content of the common.js/css page, to see if maybe something there prevents the display of the sitenotice. I also made a minor change to see the sitenotice to see if that makes it appear - both unsuccesful. --MF-W 14:53, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[]

Fixed it with a workaround: I've created MediaWiki:Sitenotice/en. I don't really know why I had to do this and I don't really think it's worth investigating, but in case somebody wants to open a bug: Go ahead - Hoo man (talk) 12:30, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[]

Thanks to everyone who looked into this. - dcljr (talk) 00:13, 2 July 2013 (UTC)[]

Wrong language pages on gagwiki

Can someone please review my recent mass-deletion, and whether any more action is needed? Thank you. PiRSquared17 (talk) 17:01, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[]

For reference, gag:Kullanıcı_dartışma:PiRSquared17 PiRSquared17 (talk) 17:02, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[]
Well, Gagauz is a Turkic language, and Turkic languages are all quite similar. Also Ethnologue especially notes a similarity between Gagauz and Turkish. So we probably can't know if the deletion requestor is right or not. I have however put some pages through Google Translate and there was nothing weird in the results, which might indicate that it is really completely Turkish. Maybe ask on trwiki if you want to be extra-sure. --MF-W 17:06, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[]
Hm, maybe I should have waited for a native Turkish speaker. :/ Well, since deletions are reversible, I can just do that if needed. Any idea where to ask tr-N users exactly (in English)? PiRSquared17 (talk) 17:08, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[]
This looks like "Village pump (miscellaneous)": tr:Vikipedi:Köy çeşmesi (ilginize). --MF-W 17:11, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[]
The IP replied on my talk page on gagwiki as I was writing a message on trwiki. I'm guessing these deletions are correct, but I just want to be on the safe side. PiRSquared17 (talk) 17:16, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[]
And the IP has tagged a few more for deletion. PiRSquared17 (talk) 17:26, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[]

@MF-Warburg: Confirmed. Do you want to delete the other pages the IP tagged? PiRSquared17 (talk) 18:20, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[]

The awful ping shit does not work here yet, but I stalk this page and your talk page :P
I'm also lazy, so I have no objections if you delete these pages.. --MF-W 19:32, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[]
I saw your trwiki question and I can say that your sample turkish text is definitely turkish.--Ilgaz ER (talk) 07:42, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[]

Admin activity review

I would love some comments on the talk page of that page on whether it appropriately reflects what was decided in the RFC; and on whether Admin activity review/2013 describes a reasonable way to move forward. I'm thinking that some policy details might be refined later on, after we have run the first activity review, according to the experiences there about practicability etc. --MF-W 03:23, 7 July 2013 (UTC)[]

It all seems fine to me, and thank you for taking the time to get thru that :) Snowolf How can I help? 05:43, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[]
I would like to notify stewards that noWP has procedures concerning removal of both passive administrators and non-fitting such. (Re-elections every 2 yrs, and possibility of demanding a de-sysop-voting in between). I support the thought from the stewards-group, but I think we in Norway have gotten a little ahead of you there. (I am not certain of the Norwegian nynorsk-version though.) --Bjørn som tegner (talk) 09:45, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[]
Thank you, we will keep this in mind. However for this round, we have not found inactive sysops on anyway :) --MF-W 14:39, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[]

Hebrew reader please

Hi. At SRP#Tomerbot@he.wikiquote there are links to policy which are in Hebrew. Can one steward who reads/speaks "he" please take care of this?. Regards. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 13:11, 13 July 2013 (UTC)[]

(It was done). --MF-W 14:39, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[]

Spam at lt.wikt

lt:wikt: receives user page spam almost everyday. See lt:wikt:Special:RecentChanges. Could someone set up an abuse filter to counter this? --Glaisher [talk] 10:31, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[]

Vogone tried and it worked for a while, but there was another attack. Various people are keeping an eye on it now QuiteUnusual (talk) 13:50, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[]

The midsummer spammers

Hello. The following IPs have spammed on the English Wikiquote:

The common thing is that all of them talk about midsummer. What action(s) should be taken in this case? LlamaAl (talk) 01:57, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[]

One more: xwiki-contribsxwiki-date (alt)STIP infoWHOISrobtexgblockglistabuselogipchecker, in the same range that LlamaAl (talk) 02:05, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[]
Another: xwiki-contribsxwiki-date (alt)STIP infoWHOISrobtexgblockglistabuselogipchecker. LlamaAl (talk) 02:18, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[]
The last two have also been spamming crosswiki (fj.wikt / fr.wy) and were "recently reported forum spam sources" from China, so I globally blocked them for 3 months. For the others, I could see no traces of cw spam, but it might be advisable to put them on the blacklist in cvn-sw. --MF-W 16:26, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[]
It's not only en.q. The same botnet have been spamming globally. It seems to have stopped for now though :-). I haven't seen this type of spam today (for me). And I added midsummer to the bes list. --Glaisher [talk] 16:28, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[]

It has been not concluded for one month. Could anyone make a decision? --ReviDiscussSUL Info 10:09, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[]

I am having trouble understanding why Lousyi was locked. Can anyone explain what articles were being created? Were any attempts to contact the user made, or was it just a lock with no notice? PiRSquared17 (talk) 03:25, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[]

Well, it happened in 2010, and I have no knowledge about it, however apparently he was locked by Kylu with the reason "Non-responsive, creation of contentless articles" from which I guess someone tried to talk to the user (who otherwise couldn't be non-responsive). The edits shows a lot of no-content stubs (e.g. on fjwiki, over 2000 edits but only a dozen remain undeleted: Lots of articles according to the scheme (Created page with ''''{{PAGENAME}}''' mai Turaga ni Thailand Category:Thailand')). --MF-W 15:40, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[]
