April 2023 ratification methodology community review
Goals
The Movement Charter needs to be ratified by the communities in order to be accepted by the Wikimedia movement. For this purpose, the Movement Charter Drafting Committee (MCDC) has prepared an early draft proposal for the ratification methodology. The draft methodology will undergo a community review from April 10 to 28, 2023. After the community review, the MCDC will analyze the feedback and share an updated version.
Community conversations
The MCDC will host 3 conversations with the communities to hear their early input on the methodology used to ratify the Wikimedia Movement Charter. Each call will last about 90 minutes and will include a 10-15 minute introduction about the purpose of the call and a light presentation of the proposed ratification methodology by an MCDC member, followed by the discussion of open questions.
The organizing team invites everyone interested in joining the calls to sign up by April 16, 2023. Your early sign-up will help us to organize the language support. Language interpretation will be provided if at least 3 (three) people expressed interest to participate in the following languages: Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian and Spanish. Please comment below if you need interpretation support and into what language.
Dates and time
The discussions will be held on Zoom. Links to the meeting will be posted here 48 hours before the meeting. The calls will not be recorded. Participation via video or audio is not required; participants may engage using text chat.

November-December 2022 consultation
You may look for a detailed summary of the feedback, the detailed feedback of which the summary was based, or the MCDC responses of the feedback. |
The community consultation to collect feedback on the draft of the first three sections of the Movement Charter is taking place between November 20 and December 18, 2022. Feedback can be shared in different ways and in the language you prefer:
- Filling out the feedback survey (anonymously and available in multiple languages);
- Sharing feedback on the talk page on Meta;
- Sharing feedback in Movement Strategy Forum:
- Preamble
- Values & Principles
- Roles & Responsibilities (statement of intent)
- Sending an email to movementcharterwikimediaorg; or
- If your local community/organization have a Movement Charter Ambassador, join the local conversations that they are organizing.
Ask Me Anything on Movement Charter sessions
With the goal of ensuring that anyone interested is well informed to fully participate in the conversations and are empowered to contribute their perspective on the Movement Charter, three Ask Me Anything about Movement Charter sessions were organized, scheduled for different time zones. These sessions took before the community consultation period.
The sessions are for anyone interested in learning about the Movement Charter: Goal, purpose, why it matters to a Wikimedian as well as communities, and what impact it has. Members of the MCDC will be present to answer any questions on the Charter you might have and receive feedback. All three sessions follow the same structure and program.

- Access links for calls will be shared 48 hours before on this page
- Engage as you like: speaking up, writing, or just listening.
- Event language is English, simultaneous interpretation available (depending on the call)
- Only the presentation of the session is recorded and shared afterwards, no recording of conversations
