Editnotice on FDC proposals

Hi,

Per the discussion on Grants:APG/FDC_portal/Comments#Editnotice we would like to add an editnotice to the 2013-2014 round2 FDC proposal pages, that would be effective on the proposal pages (example) as well as all their subpages (example).

The editnotice we drafted lives for the moment at User:Jean-Frédéric/Editnotice.

I am not a lot familiar with the way editnotices work − it is my understanding that so-called “group notices” may be used to affect all the subpages of a given page. Is that appropriate here? Or shall we implement the editnotice for every single proposal and subpage?

Thanks, Jean-Fred (talk) 15:54, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

@Jean-Frédéric:   Done Let me know if anything needs to be fixed. --Glaisher [talk] 16:36, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
@Glaisher: Thanks! This looks good ; except that (I realise my request was not very clear on that regard) we would like this editnotice active for all proposals: first, second, third. Could you do that as well? I guess there is no other way than to create three more group notices?
Jean-Fred (talk) 23:22, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
@Jean-Frédéric: Also   Done now. --Glaisher [talk] 11:38, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
Thanks Glaisher. Perfect :). Jean-Fred (talk) 18:05, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

MassMessage about making templates compatible with MediaViewer / structured data

Hi,

I'd like to send out a MassMessage to notify editors involved in template maintenance about what markup image information and licence templates need to be compatible with tools which rely on structured data parsed from these templates. Media Viewer, which is one of these tools, is currently being released on various wikis.

The address list is at User:Tgr (WMF)/MediaViewer template spamlist (it contains Wikiproject:Templates and its interwikis), the message itself is at User:Tgr (WMF)/MediaViewer template message.

Thanks! --Tgr (WMF) (talk) 03:56, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

I will do this. PiRSquared17 (talk) 03:58, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
@Tgr (WMF): what should the subject be? PiRSquared17 (talk) 03:59, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
The bold line on User:Tgr (WMF)/MediaViewer template message. --Tgr (WMF) (talk) 04:04, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
  Done PiRSquared17 (talk) 04:09, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
Oh silly me, I missed the done. It would have been better with these targets: [1]. :) --Nemo 06:42, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
Eh, I thought messages are redirected to the talk page automatically. (Although in hindsight it wouldn't really make sense.) I'll clean up. --Tgr (WMF) (talk) 17:55, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
Done. (PiRSquared17 already did most of it; thanks! Sorry for the trouble.) --Tgr (WMF) (talk) 18:16, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
No problem, I should have been a bit more careful. ;) PiRSquared17 (talk) 23:36, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

@Rundl132: I have added those. Could you check whether they are correct? Can be set to published when you confirm. --Glaisher [talk] 08:46, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

MediaWiki:Sidebar/ar

Hi. Please sync the Arabic subpage with the English original. --Meno25 (talk) 19:34, 11 May 2014 (UTC)

Done diff --Glaisher [talk] 05:13, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
Why not just delete it? PiRSquared17 (talk) 15:24, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
That would be another possible option. Now to step 2: Please create the following pages with the following content (without the quotes). This ensures that the sidebar is fully localized for users who use Arabic (ar) as interface language:
Thank you. --Meno25 (talk) 18:11, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Translation vandalism?

I don't think these edits are constructive. Perhaps someone can help restoring those? I'm not good with the translation tool... Trijnsteltalk 14:51, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure this was the best treatment, but I restored the English text (the erased parts had not been translated) and added the code !!FUZZY!! to notify future translators at Privacy policy/cy and Privacy policy/he. whym (talk) 15:07, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
Was it I who suggested that translations should really be restricted to autoconfirmed users? The fact that banner texts seem to be out of reach for unregistered users is a good thing. Now the same should be applied to all translations. --Pxos (talk) 16:30, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Moderators

Can Wikipedia offer moderator positions which include patroller, autopatroller, rollbacker functions as well as delete and block articles Some of members of my Wiki did not want to be administrators because of overload responsibilities but they are quite happy to be moderators to help community as much as they can. Alphama (talk) 12:57, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

It's possible to create user groups with less permissions than nlwiki "moderators" have but that would require local community consensus beforehand. Anyway, this discussion probably doesn't belong here as it isn't metawiki-related. Vogone (talk) 13:24, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

Request for CentralNotice banner

Hi all! I would some help to create a CentralNotice banner for the edit-a-thon contest planned by Wikimedia Venezuela, the banner should be based on the design of Wikiviajes.

  • link: //es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiproyecto:Venezuela/Traducir
  • from June 10th to 25th, 2014.
  • logged-in and anonymous users.
  • only in Venezuela, only in Spanish projects.
  • text1: ¡Participa en la I jornada de traducción de artículos al inglés y wayuunaiki!
  • text2: ¡Ayúdanos en artículos sobre Venezuela con relevancia histórica, política, geográfica, social y cultural!
  • Logo: File:Wikimedia_Venezuela_logo.svg

Many thanks in advance, --Oscar (t) · @ 23:25, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Sysop Needed to Deal with M7 and Nemo bis

M7 has been extremely condescending after he accused another user inappropriately of being racist. Instead of keeping discussion to his talk page, he has spread his abuse on multiple pages. I removed it from my user page because it does not belong there, but he decided to violate talk page guidelines by reinserting it. Nemo bis removed an earlier report of M7's abusive behavior without reason. Both need to be dealt with. Ottava Rima (talk) 14:18, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

Another admin review of your clearly requested intervention from indeed a problematic user is appropriate. Please note that this user tried to remove interesting material from his own talk page. --M/ (talk) 14:20, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
You randomly responded on my user page instead of your own and separated out the conversation. That isn't normal behavior. It is normal to remove content from one's own page, and it has always been seen as inappropriate to try and stop someone from doing that. Your behavior has been extremely condescending and abusive, and you blocked a user claiming he made a "racist" statement when he obviously did not. Ottava Rima (talk) 14:32, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Closed The circumstance of this has been discussed with Nemo Bis in IRC. M7 mentioned behaviour in the block — and made no accusation of racism — to a user who should have known better. The matter can be reviewed by an independent admin, probably in consultation with M7, if the blocked user requests an unblock. I am sure that M7 had reasons for his editing in that manner, and will note your preference for wiki editing convention. Otherwise I do not see the need for any sysop to deal with either user, nor that there is any means to deal with them. If either is at Wikimania, I will see that they sit down for a beer and a conversation.  — billinghurst sDrewth 15:01, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Ok for me. And I will be at Wikimania in London, hoping that psychology classes mentioned on IRC by Ottava Rima have ended and he will be relaxing with a beer or some british tea, since I prefer the latter! --M/ (talk) 15:12, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Although this is closed, there's more discussion on User_talk:M7#Block_of_DanielTom and on User talk:DanielTom (where Ottava has requested an unblock/block settings change, apparently on his behalf). PiRSquared17 (talk) 19:26, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Why can't Ottava Rima remove whatever he likes from his personal pages? Elfix 19:34, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
On some wikis this is explicitly allowed, while on others it is forbidden. As far as I know, Meta has no policy forbidding this, so it should be allowed (by default). Removal of content from a user's talk page is usually an indication that the user has read it; I disagree with this reversion; as far as I know, it has never been standard practice or policy on Meta to disallow blanking of own talkpage sections. I would also urge M7 to read this section of the official administrators policy here. PiRSquared17 (talk) 13:15, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
I am aware of the policy that you linked, but I felt that an urgent block was needed since it is not the first time that user wrote personal (or collective) attacks, that are certainly unneeded and have the only effect to discourage people from contributing. A further analysis of this user contributions, that you might already read on my talk page, made me steadier in my decision. For what is concerning the reversion, it seemed me strange that Ottava asked for a third party intervention while removing the conversation. --M/ (talk) 13:32, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Request for CentralNotice banner (Argentina)

Hi all! I would some help to create a CentralNotice banner for the meeting with local wikipedians planned by Wikimedia Argentina in Ciudad de Mendoza, next June 5th. The banner should be based on the design available here and here.

We want to try, as soon as possible, only one campaign:

    • link: //es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Encuentros/I_Encuentro_de_Wikipedistas_de_Mendoza
    • from May 30th to June 8th, 2014.
    • logged-in and anonymous users.
    • only in Argentina, all projects, all languages.
    • text1: Si editás Wikipedia y vivís en Mendoza, ¡vení al 1º Encuentro!
    • text2: Te esperamos el jueves 5 de junio en Ciudad de Mendoza.

I would like the same image File:Wikimedia_Argentina_logo.svg please. I have already added it to CentralNotice/Calendar.

Thanks a lot, and sorry for the short notice. We only confirmed the event today! Warm regards, María Cruz (WMAR) (talk) 15:45, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

@María Cruz (WMAR): If you could check the banner before I enable it, that would be great. If you don't reply within 30 minutes I'll create the campaign and enable it. PiRSquared17 (talk) 15:56, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
Done, but can you explain why you need it to run until June 8 if the event is on June 5? PiRSquared17 (talk) 16:45, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
Hi PiRSquared17, thank you very much for activating the banner! It is really helpful. The reason we leave it for longer period is because our team will be in the city longer. We are suggesting a meeting day, but we want them to reach out (in person or via email or WP message) at any time beyond the meeting. Thanks again for the super quick response. All the best, María Cruz (WMAR) (talk) 17:15, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
PS, sorry, I don't understand if this is live or not. I can't see it on my browser yet. Thanks! María Cruz (WMAR) (talk) 17:49, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
It should be live. PiRSquared17 (talk) 18:07, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
