Translation notification: Template:StrategyButton2016/editintro/Communities edit

Hello Romaine,

You are receiving this notification because you signed up as a translator to Dutch on Meta. The page Template:StrategyButton2016/editintro/Communities is available for translation. You can translate it here:

The priority of this page is high. The deadline for translating this page is 2016-01-18.

- This is the part of a series of community consultation pages. The WMF Community Advocacy team has put together a list at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/2016_Strategy/Translations. We're hoping to launch the consultation on January 18th. Realizing getting all translations in place before the launch of the consultation may not be possible (and that people will likely help with translations after the launch), I'd be really grateful for any assistance especially that you can give in translating the templates at that Meta page link, like this one. It'll probably be harder for casual translators to help out with those!

- Text should be stable at this point. I've just made what I hope will be the last modification to those pages!

- Thank you for all you do, and I hope you will not only assist in translation (if you are able) but also take part in the consultation. Your input will be very welcome.

- Questions or concerns? Please let me know at mdennis@wikimedia.org. Thanks! Maggie

Harassment workshop edit

Greetings! You are receiving this message because, at some point in the past, you have participated in a discussion around the topic of harassment. The Support and Safety team is holding a series of consultations gathering feedback on the best potential solutions to the problem. The next stage is a workshop where we hope to narrow the focus to individual actionable ideas and explore how to bring some of these ideas to life.

Inspire Campaign on content curation & review edit

I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:39, 29 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 edit

Hi Romaine!

At the hackathon in Jerusalem JeanFred, Multichill and Lokal_Profil did a WLM sprint for this year's competition. We've outlined a few things in phabricator task T131500, but the gist of it is that there's no capacity for technical improvements at the moment, and a move to Wikidata is currently out of the question. Not sure if you or Ilario are going to write the grant again this year, but I thought I'd let you know about the current technical situation.

There will be a presentation on this topic at Wikimania (as mentioned in the phabricator task) where we hope do raise awareness for this issue, especially with the chapters. Best, Braveheart (talk) 14:29, 25 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Braveheart, Thank you for the information! I will now have a look at it. Yes, I will be writing a grant request this year, I need this week to start communicating with the team to see who will else. I hope to work on that this week. I just returned from the Wikimedia Conference in Berlin, and their I made an inventory of which affiliates want to organise Wiki Loves Monuments this year. I think on the long term Wikidata can be interesting, but earlier this year I made an analysis of what is needed for that and I could only conclude that it is far from ready for usage.
I am concerned in general that there is from the grants team the request for a permanent team to have a sustainable future in the coming years, but I see no way to get such done. This I indicated also here: Grants talk:PEG/Wiki Loves Monuments international team/2015 coordination/Report. Romaine (talk) 00:58, 26 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that's also one of the main issues I want to talk about at Wikimania. For me, the solution would be for the chapters to provide support/people to support the planning and grant making process, since they are the ones that profit the most from this contest. There are certain chapters like NL and AT that are phasing out of WLM and new ones coming in, so having a core team of users involved would make the transition easier, while including chapters like WMDE who are far from done with WLM and won't be for the foreseeable future. WMDE would also be the most likely bet for funds to improve the technical infrastructure and the eventual move to Wikidata. We already have some developers at WMDE that are fairly knowledgable in WLM, so why not use that resource in the future?
Best, Braveheart (talk) 10:11, 26 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Request for Input - New Central Notice request process edit

Hello fellow CN admin!

Back in February I emailed the CN-admin list regarding part of my role to look into the Central Notice process and see where we could make improvements including: the campaign process; its functionality or lack thereof; and fundamentally the documentation that supports it. You can see many of the issues that I identified at CentralNotice/Process_Review. If there is anything additional that you feel has been left out then please feel free to leave any comments on the talk page.

My first task is to improve the requesting of campaigns by communities and affiliates. I am looking to set up a more formal request process, similar to those used in many projects. The aim is to: increase the transparency of Central Notice; improve the support provided to affiliates (including making such support more consistent); to provide a forum for community input into campaigns.

I have been working on a very rough strawman version of the process and I would be interested in hearing you comments about what such a process should involve and what you think it would require. Please feel free to leave such comments at the process talk page section. I would like to have a working page in place by the end of May. This would not need to be a final version. The process can be improved upon over time as we learn about how well it works.

I encourage you to:

Regards

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,

Themamaand (of schrijfmaand?) Azië edit

Hoi Romaine,

Doen Nederland en België geen van beide mee aan Wikipedia Asian Month ? Is er een reden dat ze daaraan niet (wensen) mee te doen? WCN wellicht in dezelfde maand?

Romaine (talk) 14:43, 31 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

2016 Community Wishlist Survey edit

Hi,

You’re getting this message because you participated in the 2015 Community Wishlist Survey and we want to make sure you don't miss it this year – or at least can make the conscious choice to ignore if it you want to. The 2015 survey decided what the Community Tech team should work on during 2016. It was also the focus of Wikimedia hackathons and work by other developers. You can see the status of wishes from the 2015 wishlist at 2015 Community Wishlist Survey/Results.

The 2016 Community Wishlist Survey is now open for wishes. You can create proposals until November 20. You will be able to vote on which wishes you think are best or most important between November 28 and December 12. /Johan (WMF) (talk) via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 11:17, 14 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
