Hello, Martin Urbanec (WMF). Welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum if you need help with something (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). Also worthwhile acquainting yourself with the functions of global user pages. Happy editing!

Hello new not-stranger. You don't look like the standard ntsamr, and you should now be away from the effects of that abuse filter anyway.  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:34, 13 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thank you. However, it doesn't work yet, looks filter looks for confirmed rather than autopatrol. Anyway, found a way to work aroud the filter :-). --Martin Urbanec (WMF) (talk) 15:14, 14 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I have no idea what an HD logo is, but li.wikinews should use the version which says "Wikinuujs" :) --OosWesThoesBes (talk) 13:45, 8 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi, a HD logo is a logo used on displays with higher density, such as Retina. I see that liwikinews currently uses the generic "Wikinews" logo. Let's change it then :). --Martin Urbanec (WMF) (talk) 15:49, 8 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! :) --OosWesThoesBes (talk) 14:50, 11 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

MassMessage timestamp edit

Hi, I'm reaching out to you because you've used Special:MassMessage here in the last couple of months. In phab:T270435 there's a discussion about how to be able to use MassMessage when using the new "Page to be sent as a message" function, which would require an easier way of adding a timestamp. My suggestion is to add it automatically, since MassMassages are going out to discussion pages of different kinds, and should be timestamped. If you have a workflow where you don't want your message to be timestamped, please let me now on my talk page or in the Phabricator ticket. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 14:18, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Mentor change edit

Hello @Martin Urbanec (WMF).I'm AxisAce09, editing the Turkish Wikipedia. I want to change my mentor on Turkish Wikipedia. AxisAce09 (talk) 10:18, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @AxisAce09, thanks for leaving a message for me! Unfortunately, it is not yet possible for you to change your mentor. Mentors can, however, decide to claim any mentee (see manual). If you know who would be best for you as your mentor (see list of mentors), you can leave them a message (similar to how you messaged me) and ask them to claim you. Have a nice day, Martin Urbanec (WMF) (talk) 16:24, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Survey, banner request, other things to do edit

Hello @Martin Urbanec (WMF)

Sorry to bother you, but I wanted to know if I have to do anything more regarding the banner request for our survey of the wikipedians? like an RFC, or the discussion in the page is enough? (I've contacted you and DerHexer as you are the two persons indicated in the central notice page)

thanks, Jullienn (talk) 07:44, 28 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

I hope that I will find enough time on Monday to read through your 10 emails, 5 pings and 10 onwiki messages. It's almost impossible for me as a volunteer, to keep track of all your communications. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 08:00, 28 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello @DerHexer
Well, this is yet another message, but to say to you both guys I'am sorry. I know it is hard to cope with all the demands, especially from people, like me, who do not know exactly how it works and thus produce extra sollicitations/noise.
Sorry again, hope you can find the time to tell me what I have to do to go forward.
Have a good day! Jullienn (talk) 07:48, 2 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Mass mentor change edit

Hi Martin, Yesterday, you reassigned several thousand (!) mentees on the German Wikipedia. Several of them created their account 2021, my own account is from 2009 (and never had a mentor). You included banned users, at least one active admin, I also spotted a flagged bot. Something must have gone wrong ;-) If this is already discussed elsewhere, can you direct me there (curiosity)? Erastophanes (talk) 08:48, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Erastophanes
I'm responding as I have the answer. :)
This reassignment process was announced in Tech/News/2023/45. It is a one-time adjustment of the mentor-mentees relationship (assuming that you are aware of mentorship features, if not, let me know).
Blocked mentors were not supposed to be part of the reassignment, we are investigating the case. I'm curious of the flagged bot: which account is it? Experienced users, like you, can opt-out mentorship by visiting special:Homepage.
Trizek_(WMF) (talk) 09:38, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
It seems to be a bot without flag, but active since January 2022: ElBe Bot. Best regards, Brettchenweber (talk) 13:48, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you @Brettchenweber. I asked as flagged bots are excluded from the reassignment. An unflagged bot will be considered as a regular user, I'm afraid. Trizek_(WMF) (talk) 14:46, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Well, the bot has been editing since January 2022, so it isn't a bot-newbie and I'm quite sure, that it never had a mentor before. :-) And at least one our sysops was now considered as a mentee and I don't think, that this was intended. Something went wrong… Brettchenweber (talk) 18:57, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Well, we do have now some Users who consider this a bug, rather than a feature - Adtonko (talk) 18:59, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Brettchenweber but the technical point here is the missing “Bot”-flag TenWhile6 (talk | SWMT) 19:30, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
The bot flag is not "missing". I applied for one and got denied, so I moved on and only did things not requiring a bot flag. --ElBe 1 | 2 | WP 19:38, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the confusion, I missed that the bot had no bot flag.
The other thing: I'm well aware of the mentor project. My settings does not have the option set that would request a mentor. Erastophanes (talk) 05:22, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
@ElBe I know about the Denial, that’s what I meant. He is Acting like a bot, but without bot flag. TenWhile6 (talk | SWMT) 07:41, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
