Xeyal Azerbeyli

I was blocked by user "Alex Shih" on October 7, 2017. I texted Alex Shih many times. But I did not get a positive answer. Years ago when I started using Wikipedia, my cousins also opened an account, we were using the same IP address. I didn't even know what their names were. Then I found out. As a result of their irresponsible behavior (these users "Ayla Mirzezadeh" and "Mr.Memmedov"), my most Wikipedia account was blocked indefinitely. I wrote a message to Alex Shih how many times to unblock my account. But I could not explain my problem. Now, yesterday I created a page on wikipedia, the page I created has also been deleted. I no longer know who to ask for help and how to get unblocked. Please help.

I was also prevented for this reason. "Your editing for advertising or promotional purposes has been blocked indefinitely." I suspect my cousins. I know I never did any commercials.

Invitation for Functionary consultation 2021

Greetings SWMT member,

I'm letting you know in advance about a meeting I'd like to invite you to regarding the Universal Code of Conduct and the community's ownership of its future enforcement. I'm still in the process of putting together the details, but I wanted to share the date with you: 10 July, 2021. I do not have a time on this date yet, but I will let you soon. We have created a meta page with basic information. Please take a look at the meta page and sign up your name under the appropriate section.

Thank you for your time.--BAnand (WMF) 03:21, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

AFs

Thanks for the email. AF/169 is more focused on the multilingual spambots, especially where the language of the spam is not the language of the wiki. AF/96 is more focused on that grooming and hot deal exuberance language. I try to minimise the overlap of filters as it lessens the logs verbiage, similarly we try to only disallow where necessary. It is somewhat reasonable to flag abuse in abuselogs and still have it as a successful edit as the cleanup will be swift, as long as it is not a consistent pattern.

Can I note that the edit to which you pointed was hand-crafted, not a spambot. Those you will find that the can just make variations to the edits until they get through. Notice all those nowiki'd urls. I sometimes think about a filter that counts the nowikis in an edit. though that could be expensive.

Remembering that we are not just focusing on WPs. WSes may reproduce works with some of that text; wikinews may be writing a story that covers the topic; and wiktionary may have definitions that encapsulate. So the path of AF growth has to be incremental and gentle. Similarly we know that spambot mostly operate in English which is not the language of the vast bulk of the wikis not covered by global AF, so in those cases we can go a bit harder with filters that wouldn't work at enWP. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Wikis!

Thanks for the email and the interest.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:32, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

Hello, since the section got archived, would you mind replying here? ~~~~

Sorry for the delay in replying. The usernames got caught in the filter that detects the Highway/bmx vandal (and catches a lot of such usernames, although I cannot guarantee that they belong to the same user off course). The users listed in that request were generated during some sort of a waive of account creations from the vandal. Regarding Trumpetgi, this vandal has some obsession with Trump. You could indeed argue that the username could be interpreted in multiple ways (depending whether you read Trump or Trumpet + the rest). Hope this provides a sufficient answer to you? I'll off course be happy to reply to any additional questions you'd have. Daniuu (talk) 10:34, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. Yes, this filter is very broad and catches a lot of false positives in my experience (one of the accounts was actually even by a different German LTA). Thanks for the explanation on "Trumpetgi"; though "AnastasiaNies" confused me the most (and the "Angel Gomez" one, apart from the all-caps spelling, did not look suspicious to me as a non-Spanish speaker, but I did not mention it for that reason). ~~~~

Yeah, I noticed that there were quite some vandals in there (the German LTA as a significant example), as well as false positives. Daniuu (talk) 18:46, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

Congrats!

You are now a global sysop. ~~~~

Your role and deletions on Amharic wikipedia

No Amharic speaking contributor ever identified those articles as spam or complained about them in any way. They are prominent reporters etc. in Ethiopia who are perhaps unimportant to the non-Amharic user who complained about them here on Meta behind everyone's back. Claiming for oneself some sort of inherent right to dominate people who speak a different language, and making decisions about what may be said in a language you don't know, is the very essence of the old Colonialist mentality that thank God the majority of the civilized world abandoned long ago! 1922 hits (talk) 18:14, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for voicing your concerns regarding my actions on the Amharic Wikipedia. Regarding your remark on the choice of the subject: this is not a matter that we as global sysops judge on. It is up to the community to decide upon the subjects they determine to be relevant (we could as global sysops eventually handle the technical aspect of the deletion if there would be no local admins on a given project, but that is another matter). The actions were solely undertaken due to the form of the articles (which included references to social media etc.). I don't get the reference to colonialism to be fair (but apparently, this kind of weird accusations etc. resulted in the actions against your account). Daniuu (talk) 10:39, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
