Deleted content from Wikipedia Arabic

Hi

I created a page about a famous female poet in Wiki Arabic but a user deleted the page and another one deleted another page that redirects to it with the reason "insufficient information" or something. I tried contacting administrators (oversighters) of that side of Wikipedia to return it but could not

http://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D9%85%D9%86%D9%8A%D8%B1%D8%A9_%D8%A8%D9%86%D8%AA_%D8%B9%D8%A8%D8%AF_%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D8%B2%D9%8A%D8%B2_%D8%A8%D9%86_%D9%85%D8%B3%D8%A7%D8%B9%D8%AF_%D8%A2%D9%84_%D8%B3%D8%B9%D9%88%D8%AF

This is the page after I tried creating it again with very little content.... Can you please help?

This is the public profile of the person I was trying to cover: http://www.geni.com/people/Princess-Munira-bint-Abdul-Aziz-Al-Saud/6000000011164398554 — The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.96.226.14 (talk)

Hello! The page has only been deleted and not oversighted. You can contact the admins of the arabic Wikipedia here. Since I don't understand the language in question, I can hardly help you. Best, -Barras talk 14:58, 2 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

CVN channel

Poke: /Archive 4#Creating a CVN channel. Fearstreetsaga (talk) 14:04, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Oh yes, forgot about that one. You need to set up a feed channel and then we can create you a channel in the cvn-namespace and offer you a bot that filters the changes and stuff. You just need to ask in #countervandalism for Krinkle, Seahorse or furry, they are the main bot ops and have the know-how to set up a bot for you. Channels are created quickly as needed. -Barras talk 14:13, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

#cvn-wb-en

Hi, the CVN bot that monitors en.wikibooks, wbbot, has been offline for months. I asked on IRC some time back and was told that the operator of the bot was no longer active (or the server was now offline for good). Rather than get someone else to host wbbot, I wondered if it would make more sense to get one of the #cvn-sw channel bots to monitor Wikibooks instead? I used to be the only person in the #cvn-wb-en channel anyway and most of the monitoring is done by the global sysops and rollbackers who are presumably using the sw channel anyway... If I should ask someone else or discuss this somewhere else, please tell me! Thanks QU TalkQu 14:13, 17 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, the bot stuff goes preferable to Krinkle as he's the one who can set up new bots and has the know-how. Seahorse or Furry in #countervandalism might also be able to help you with hosting a replacement. The old server where wbbot and others run is causing problems for ages now. -Barras talk 15:49, 17 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I remember now it was Seahorse who I was talking to on IRC about it. I'll wander over and ask them. QU TalkQu 15:55, 17 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

hello how to get voice on cnv-sw on irc? tnx

--M4r51n (talk) 09:55, 24 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
The easiest way to get voice is to ask in the channel itself. Usually a local op is around for that. -Barras talk 12:16, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Stewardship

An image that is partially in focus, but mostly out of focus in varying degrees.

Please notice that I asked three questions of each candidate at Stewards/Elections 2013/Questions

  1. Do you look forward to being an active catalyst for consensus-building, especially in small wiki contexts?
  2. Do you see your role as a passive bystander with a few tools?
  3. Are you able to make balanced guesses about why, when and how "it is better not to reach than to go too far"?

As you know, you are identified as a steward at simple:Wikipedia:Administrators#List of Administrators. In this context, it is timely and meaningful to pose the same questions. --Ansei (talk) 19:04, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

You want me to answer you those questions? -Barras talk 21:07, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, please. These questions are forward looking and open-ended. Is it not appropriate and useful to ask such questions from time to time? Is it not reasonable to ask experienced stewards the same kinds of questions which are presented to steward candidates? --Ansei (talk) 23:50, 8 February 2013 (UTC) Reply
Perhaps the best response is what I have written here. --Ansei (talk) 06:32, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
@ Barras -- Yes. If you please, I do hope for an answer to these questions. They are an opening, a start, a first step. If it matters to you, my thinking is explained in more detail here. One of your colleagues wondered if this is not just a rhetorical exercise. It is not. --Ansei (talk)

┌─────────────────────────────────┘
With respect, you can see for yourself whether Barras has met those points. He has been a steward for a few years now, so his past work speaks for itself. If you have any doubts about his ability, then state why on the vote page; otherwise, ask something more specific to your concerns. PeterSymonds (talk) 21:11, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

PeterSymonds -- Questions are not a complaint. Your leap of logic not justified by the specific words of my diff. Your lurker's diff only makes sense if you construe something beyond the words themselves. --Ansei (talk) 00:04, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
You make very little sense, but okay. PeterSymonds (talk) 20:25, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
@ PeterSymonds -- Perhaps it will help to consider responses which these questions have generated thus far:
As I acknowledged and thanked each one, I explained (a) "Your responses help me discover who you are" and (b) "Your answers help us to make better guesses about how you will think and act in the future".

The answers reveal a range of thoughtful ideas about how to make a constructive contribution to the work we do together. On second thought, can you see my questions in a different light? --Ansei (talk) 14:24, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

At the risk of being impolite, that question shall remain unanswered. PeterSymonds (talk) 22:11, 17 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Acehnese Wikipedia

Hi, I have a question. Acehnese language has 2 varieties of Latin alphabet. How can we use both of them in Wikipedia? Thanks. -- Si Gam (talk) 04:08, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello. What exactly do you mean? Two different sets of letters actually or just two different typographies as maybe in the English language (British English vs. American English for example)? -Barras talk 09:38, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I mean two different sets of letters. There are 2 varieties. First is Acheh-Sumatra National Liberation Front (ASNLF) orthography and second is Unsyiah orthography. For example, ASNLF uses letter /tj/, /dj/ and /j/ while Unsyiah uses letter /c/, /j/ and /y/. Also there are other differences such as in writing affixes etc. -- Si Gam (talk) 12:55, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Well, if there are two different kinds of letters, it might be better to have two different Wikipedias. I just imagine it like Latin letters and for example Cyrillic letters. Would look odd two see both of them in the same article. However, the LangCom might be better qualified to help you. -Barras talk 13:03, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
OK Barras. Thank you very much. -- Si Gam (talk) 17:38, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Fundraising translation feedback

Hey Barras, I have a bit of a request to ask from you. We pulled down our banners nearly a fortnight ago for what was a highly successful international fundraiser and brought the curtain down on last years fundraiser. This week however we will be changing payment processors and during the testing of the new system it would be useful to use the time productively on on testing banner text.

To help us out with this I wonder if you would be willing to help us improve our geman text using This Link

Simply follow the simple instructions on that page and if you have any questions feel free to contact me on my talk page.

We are going to run the test on tuesday so if you dont see this message till 24 hours after it was sent you can ignore me :) Many Thanks though.

Problem login on Chinese Wiki

Hi, first of all I don't know if this question belongs here (I have searched for a good deal of time but I have found nothing) so I apologize in advance.

Some time ago (3+ years) I created an account (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usuario:Jarna3) but I wanted to change the name, as I had very few edits, the best option was to create a new account (this one).

Everything went smoothly in every wiki (automatic login) but when I went to the chinese wiki (http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:%E9%A6%96%E9%A1%B5) I appeared as unlogged and trying to log gives me this message: "Login error <The user name "Jarn333333" has been banned from creation. It matches the following blacklist entry: .*(.)\1{5}.* <newaccountonly>>"

I don't know why the name is banned and taking into account that I have had no problems login into other wikipedias I find it really strange.

Once again, thank you for everything. --Jarn333333 (talk) 23:18, 20 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello Bill william compton, according to our documentation you applied for a cloak in July 2012 and that one has been set. The account was BWC_. You made a second request in September this year for the account billcompton on IRC, which has also been set. So now you have two cloaked accounts on IRC (you can check that yourself by typing /ns info ACCOUNTNAME on IRC. I would suggest you to merge both accounts into one. That means drop one account (/ns help drop) and group the name to the other account (/ns help group). If you've any further questions, then just let me know. Regards, -Barras talk 16:31, 9 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

No, we don't send notifications when cloaks are applied, we only inform users when the cloak can't be set for some reasons. Due to the number of requests we have it would just be too time consuming. -Barras talk 17:56, 9 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Supposedly abusive emails

Hi. You said here that "The mail sent via the system was not abusive and so no action can be taken here". Can you also confirm that the ones which were sent to him by external email were not abusive? In the first external email I asked him "Given your extensive involvement with the articles [about IIPM and Chaudhuri], I have to be really frank and ask if you have, or have ever had, any kind of financial relationship with IIPM, or with anyone associated with them (such as Chaudhuri or an associate) who would have an interest in promoting the Institute in any way on Wikipedia". The second merely asked a couple into his motivation for the articles.

I've copied the emails onto the help page above, in any case, so you can judge whether they constituted 'harassment'. With every kind wish Peter Damian (talk) 18:49, 16 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Why isn't it mandatory? DanielTom (talk) 17:13, 19 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well, telling every socking vandal and spambot that they have been checked would probably be just too much work. There is already enough to check, and sending all of the spambots a message is pretty useless and utterly time consuming. -Barras talk 17:27, 19 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
People whose accounts are "checked" can easily be notified, even automatically, just as you were notified that you got a message from me. DanielTom (talk) 17:47, 19 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
That is still useless for many accounts. Bot-like created spam accounts surely don't care much about that. It's just unneeded waste of time, imo. However, it might better if you talk to some staff member responsible for this. -Barras talk 17:56, 19 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Could you direct me to whom I am supposed to talk to? DanielTom (talk) 18:04, 19 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
I guess Philippe would be the best person to talk to, maybe Geoff, as he's the legal council. -Barras talk 23:57, 19 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

About the Cloak

Hello Barras, I hope you are having a nice time. But I need your help badly. I have applied for a Cloak about a month ago. I followed every necessary process in there and also did many things later. But still I am not getting anywhere with the problem. I did everything you said. But still I have failed to go to anywhere from there. Can you kindly help me please with it? I will be highly obliged if you do so. Thanks a lot. Sourov0000 (talk) 13:53, 2 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello! I can't say more than what I've already said. Log in on irc using /ns id PASSWORD and then send us the memo by typing /msg MemoServ send wmfgc IRC cloak request. If you need more info/help (I really don't know what else I should tell you here...) then please read the freenode guidlines here. -Barras talk 16:20, 2 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hello and thanks again for your continuous support. I have done this on the first occasion when you have told me to do so in English Wikipedia. After doing so, a new message is shown saying that "The memo has been successfully sent to wmfgc." But what shall be my next step after that. This is the part which I am missing. :) Thanks a lot. Sourov0000 (talk) 13:41, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I guess that six memos for one cloak request are now more than enough ;-) - Nothing more needs to be done, the cloak will be set within the next batch. -Barras talk 13:43, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I am highly relieved to hear that.   Thanks again. Sourov0000 (talk) 18:47, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Checking Cloak Request

Hi Barras, I have requested for a Wikipedia cloak on 15 November but it has not been processed yet. May I double check if it was submitted properly? Thanks Darylgolden (talk) 11:28, 4 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello Darylgolden, on 15 November we only received one request which has been done already and which is obvious not from you. Did you click "submit" on the last step of the request? However, we received a memo from you on that day. I guess the request was just not correctly submitted. Please re-fill the form. Regards, -Barras talk 12:48, 4 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I have resubmitted the form. Could you confirm if it is submitted correctly now? Thanks, Darylgolden (talk) 00:49, 5 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Looks good. -Barras talk 08:29, 5 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
