AKoval (WMF)
Hi. :)
editPlease pardon my English.
I love learning languages and have studied a number of them, but am only fluent in English.
Translation assistance is welcomed and appreciated. I'd be afraid of what I might say if I used Google translate!
I can always find good translators to help me, so please write to me even if you don't know English well.
Wiki Takes
editI have a short notice that I am involved in Wednesday 23rd, as a consequence, I will be editing the IEG page re Rural Community Engagement on that day or the following day.
I like to think of it in terms of a friend who has just came brack from the states talking about driving from SF to the LA airport...
an opportunity has presented it ]self to further the project which requires me to drive 400km tomorrow (probably 500 +)
His description of the Monterey area has me absolutlely stoked, but my beat will be Wheatbelt Western Australia...
I do hope that does not inconvenience my application or any others, the event is sufficiently significant as to have precedence over computer time.
I do hope you might alert any others about this, it would be appreciated, Thank you sats (talk) 12:45, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the update, sats.
- I can't speak for the committee, or the potential impact to your proposal.
- But I will let Siko (WMF) know why.
- --Anna (WMF) 12:52, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
Thats fine, thank you sats (talk) 13:25, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
Hello! Please familiarise yourself with WM:CSD#M2 before using your administrator powers. This redirect was not orphan, hence it's still needed. Thanks, Nemo 22:57, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Nemo, thanks for approaching me with your concern! Since I didn’t intentionally delete anything on meta, I'm not 100% sure what you mean, but I'm wondering if maybe you're talking about the old hackathon license?
- Since the license was revised (it’s no longer a hackathon license, but a glam license now), I moved the page to change the url so people wouldn't be confused.
- I understand that when I move a normal page, there's an option to suppress a redirect, however, when I move a translatable page, I see no such option in the interface. Did I miss something? If so, could you please point out to me where such an option is? Since you're much more experience with page moves than I am, I'd appreciate the guidance. :)
Peeragogy Project & WikiMedia
editHi! I wanted to start by thakning you for all of your support of our IEG application last year!!! We have been thinking about ways to connect with the WikiMedia community. One thought was trying to draw attention to the WikiBooks version of the Handbook. What do you think? Do you have any ideas for other approaches and/or for drawing attention to our efforts? Thx! --Charles Jeffrey Danoff (talk) 21:12, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, Charles. :) Apologies for the late reply; I've been traveling. Connecting with the community is always a balancing act of connecting with the people who may have an interest in the message without exhausting the patience of those who don't. What I generally do is think about who would find what I have to say most useful. For example, your book is about peer learning, so it might interest outreach groups at Outreach wiki and maybe specific projects, like Wikiversity, where peer learning is the focus (as you know) as well as sub-projects like en:Wikipedia:WikiProject Education. If I were you, I'd consider the goal of the book and the goals of groups like these to determine if it might be useful to them. If you think it is, a short note telling them why probably won't be bothersome. That said, my sense is that it's wise to be very focused with outreach like this to avoid irritating people who aren't interested. Good luck with it! I hope you find a way to get the book to people who can make good use of it. :) Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 12:37, 23 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for the sage advice Anna!!! --Charles Jeffrey Danoff (talk) 05:36, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

How can I revert your full deletions?
editYou have forced deletion without eepingany history of the past work. How can I bring back a version of the pages deleted in the training pages ? This is lots of hours lost without discussing. You should have least have renamed the page somewhere else to be able to read the history and look how to solve the issues you wanted to solve so agressively. This is really not fair play from you, Things were veing solved, but you coulnd'nt wait or ask for help or discuss about what could be done. I think you have acted solely against all forms of cooperations. I did not want to break things, consider what I was doing was trying to help (everybody is busy and often can't do everything alone, we can be bold on Wikimedia, but not at the price of not only reverting the work, but also administratively delete everything including histories as if nothing had been done: my edits were not spamming, and even if a few things may get proken, we can cooperate to find solutions). Thanks for at least restoring a readable version of what you deleted (you may restore it, rename it, then delete the redirect created after the rename, so that I can see where you have restored the deleted items and so we can advance on solving solutions). For now, your action has not shown anything about which issues you were trying to solve (they had already been solved for the most complex part, if you had asked me instead of deleting everything). -- verdy_p (talk) 20:14, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- Dear Verdy P, I'm very sorry. That was my mistake. I deleted those pages in error. I was told to remove the pages from translation, and I misunderstood what I was being asked to do. I've restored the pages now -- you'll find them, all of them, along with their histories, at their original titles. Again, I do apologize -- certainly, it was not my intention to destroy your work. And, you're right, we should have discussed it first. It was complicated and I regret not communicating with you before we began about what we were trying to do. It would have been far better to have given advance notice so as not to confuse or frustrate anyone. I really didn't mean to do that and I'm sorry if I upset you. If you have any suggestions for other ways we might solve this problem, or notice any other issues going forward, I hope you'll let me know. I really do appreciate all you do for the projects and thank you for your work preparing the trainings for translation. Yours sincerely, Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 22:08, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- Hey Anna. See my followup comment in that thread on verdy_p's talk page. (I mislinked your username on the try, so I'm just pinging you manually.)--Sage Ross (WMF) (talk) 23:12, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
Trademark policy archives
editHi Anna, why was Talk:Trademark policy/Archives deleted? The discussion page desperately needs archiving. I was going to help, but then I saw the deleted page and figured I had better check with you. John Vandenberg (talk) 08:40, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
- Hi John, thanks for your question. The short answer for why Talk:Trademark policy/Archives was deleted is because Yana said so. :) The long answer is because the legal team felt that it was important at the time that Board be able to access the talk in one location, so the content was merged back. But now the Board has approved the policy, and Yana says it's ok to archive the talk page. :) Thank you for offering to help with this. It's really appreciated. Broken mass message that is causing formatting issues.
editHello Anna! I am hoping you can go through the mailing list for the mass message you sent out in March that introduced an unclosed table in user's talk pages. I've fixed the one that I found that let me know there was an issue, and you can see the diff of what that fix might look like in this diff. Thanks! Technical 13 (talk) 00:06, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
- Dear Technical 13, thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! I'd been told at the time that I'd done it wrong, and I made sure to update my documentation accordingly (see diff) so I'd never make that mistake again! It did not occur to me, however, that I should also go to all of the affected talk pages and correct the code there, too. So, I'm grateful to you for suggesting that and for providing an example of what that fix looked like. It has taken me some time, but I have gone through the entire mailing list, and I have closed the unclosed table on each affected talk page. So we should be problem free from now on, but if we're not, please let me know! All the best, Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 17:34, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
- No problem Anna. Sorry it's taken me a week to reply, I usually only see my notifications here on meta when I'm doing account creation stuff for enwp and my password for the acc tool got corrupted and I just reset it... Anyways, happy editing! Technical 13 (talk) 15:07, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
Hi Anna, I synced the template with the latest version from Outreach Wiki, and then switched the colours so they should work as I think you were trying to make them. The grey colour was changed from #D0D0D0 to #767676, so your edit was changing the blue colour as opposed to grey. Thehelpfulone 00:04, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
- You really are a helpful one, aren't you?! ;) Thank you *so* much! :) You made my day! :)
- While you're at it, could you please take a look at one more thing related to this?
- I also want the highlighting in that navigation template to be in color #FBD000 to match what we're using over on Outreach wiki now (see: Outreach:Template:Education/Colors/Blue). (Yes, I know, it's not blue, it's yellow-ish. I went with expeditious instead of accurate and just never got around to changing it.) :|
- I tried to figure it out from my contribs on Outreach, but it's not working in the same way on Meta. It's really not a big deal, it's just driving me nuts. Not because the colors don't match up, but that's annoying too. Just mostly because it seems like it should be working and it's not. :\
- I really really appreciate this, Thehelpfulone! <3 Thank you again! Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 00:15, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
- You're very welcome, that was lovely to hear! I think this might have fixed it - looks like D and B were the other way around? Thehelpfulone 00:26, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
- That was a clever guess, Thehelpfulone, but unfortunately it's still a bit off. :\ If you're still willing to help me solve this mystery, I'd truly appreciate it. Please see my comments on the template talk page. And, thank you, again, for everything! <3 Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 00:34, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
- Heh, well one thing you may find out about Wikimedians is if something is broken we're quite insistent that it gets fixed! I managed to fix it with this edit by changing the link so that it would directly link to the page on Meta - is that the intended behaviour? Thehelpfulone 00:41, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
- Almost! :) It's the right size and color now, and it's a highlight, not an underline. :) But, as you've said, it's now linking to itself here on Meta, sort of circularly. I was wanting it to link back to Outreach:Education/News. Is that possible, o helpful and persistent one? ;) Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 00:46, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm, I figured out a way to do it, but it's a bit hackish in that it's hardcoded to be yellow for the 5th tab which wouldn't work if you plan to use the Navigation template on other pages on Meta. I'll leave it there for now as a temporary fix, but I'm going to poke to see if I can make it less hackish in the template so that the template could be re-used on other pages too. Thehelpfulone 00:53, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
- You're so wonderful, I'm speechless. :) We *would* really appreciate you looking into that, User:Thehelpfulone, as we may be importing more of our education portal contents from Outreach to Meta, or at least, transcluding them here. In either case, the navigation would need to work completely. Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 00:58, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

subscription improperly restored to en.wikiversity Colloquium
edit[1] restored the en.wikiversity subscription to the Wikiversity Colloquium that had been removed and replaced with a subscription for a subpage, after discussion on the Colloquium,[2] allowing users to decide if they want to receive watchlist notifications. I have removed it again. Thanks. --Abd (talk) 17:08, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, Abd. Understood. Sorry to see you go. Perhaps individual Wikiversity users will wish to subscribe on their own talk pages or receive email notifications about new issues. We'd sure love to share updates about Wikiversity in the education newsletter. If anyone wants to contribute, just have them head over to Outreach:Education/Newsletter/Newsroom; they can ping me if they have any questions. Warm regards, Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 17:20, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, you have not understood. We changed our subscription to wikiversity:Wikiversity:Newsletters/This Month in Education which you also removed when you restored the old subscription. I have just restored that. You removed it 14 July. So I've done a little cleanup on Wikiversity. Thanks. --Abd (talk) 18:03, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
- Oh, I see. Thank you, Abd, for explaining further. :) And I do appreciate you taking care of that cleanup. Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 18:30, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
Hi AKoval
editIt is very interesting to meet you. I also teach English. I have been working on W.Punjabi Wikipedia (pnb.wikipedia.org) from start. I am struggling to make new editors for Punjabi Wikipedia. Although Punjabi speakers in the world are equal to German speakers but Punjabi is not taught at schools and this is a hindrance for new readers. They can speak Punjabi but cant write Punjabi. I spent last 6 years in promoting our wikipedia and inviting new editors but having no writing experience, is a hindrance. I therefore requested for a grant to promote it more energetically. I am successful in gaining one million clicks a month for our wikipedia but still the figure is poor. Wikimedia Foundation is doing a great job by saving our language but most of all through this wikipedia I am trying to save local names of birds, plants, reptiles, fishes, costumes etc. Wikimedia Foundation is saving our cultural heritage too through its projects like wikipedia, wiktionary and wikiquote. It will be interesting to note Punjab language has the most proverbs in it usage as compare to any other language in the world and through Wikiquotes I am trying to save them from extinction. I dont think whether it has been realised at any level in Wikimedia Foundation that indirectly it is saving world cultural heritage of different languages that are under stress by other languages and cultures. Through wikipedia our language is going through modernization and trying to survive in modern age. AKoval I hope your cooperation will be beneficial for our language.--Khalid Mahmood (talk) 15:11, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiStudia
editHello, Anya!
Привіт, Аню! :-)
How are you? It's Mykola (nickispeaki) from Kyiv (Chernihiv) from Ukraine. We have some great project - WikiStudia. I want to ask you - Do exist the same projects in USA? Can you give me their program? Best regard, --Nickispeaki (talk) 21:18, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
- Привіт, Микола. I'm happy to hear from you. :) Дякую. Thank you for writing to me.
- WikiStudia seems cупер! :)
- I have added a link to it here on Ukraine's Education Program page on Outreach wiki, the home of the education portal.
- I have also started a new section here where you can add a brief description of the program and its progress.
- It would be wonderful if you would share some stories from WikiStudia in the monthly Education newsletter, This Month In Education. First, add a draft article to the newsroom. Then, our communications intern, Samir Elsharbaty (WMF), will help you prepare it for publication.
- If I understand correctly the nature of WikiStudia (because I am using Google Translate), there are surely similar projects in the US. You can read about that program here: Outreach:Education/Countries/United States. WikiStudia also may share similarities with Serbia's Education Program. You can read about that program here: Education/Countries/Serbia. I hope this helps.
- Усе найкраще, Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 17:39, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Mykola. I will be happy to cover the updates of your project on the education newsletter. Let's continue the conversation on the email? I will send you an email message soon! Thank you! --Selsharbaty (WMF) (talk) 14:43, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks, Samir. I appreciate very much you supporting Nickispeaki to share recent news from Ukraine's education program in the newsletter. And, Myloka, my best to you again. :) Anna Koval (WMF) (talk) 02:51, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

Request for input on Wikipedia video project
editHello, I have completed an outline of the material that may be covered in the modules on this page.
Please note that not everyone will view every section. For example, some people may want to view only the modules that apply to Wikipedia, and others may be interested in the modules that apply to Commons.
Also, different language Wikipedias sometimes work differently. I am referring to English Wikipedia in the outline. One of the goals of the video series is to make the videos in a way that is easy to translate to other languages. One possible option is that for references to English Wikipedia which have no similarities on a Wikipedia of a different language, the portion of the video that is unnecessary can be removed from the translated version of the video. Also, members of different language communities may produce additional materials which they may add to the videos for their language, or the community members may replace portions of the English-language video with different information that is more applicable to Wikipedia in a different language.
I would appreciate your comments on the grant talk page, preferably by 11 January. Thank you! --Pine✉ 09:20, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

Update regarding Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons tutorial videos
editHello,
I regret to inform you that the series of motivational and educational videos project, which had been planned introduce Wikipedia and some of its sister projects to new contributors, is being discontinued.
There are multiple factors that have led to this decision. The initial budget and time estimates were far too small for a project of this scale and complexity. Also, my simultaneous involvement in Cascadia Wikimedians User Group was problematic due to the shortage of human resources for the user group, which resulted in my spending far more time trying to help the user group than I had planned, so my time and attention were diverted from this video project to assisting the user group.
You can find more information in the final report for the grant.
I regret that this project did not fulfill the hopes that many of us had for it, and I hope that in the future someone with the necessary resources will choose to resume work on it or a similar project. If you are interested in working on this or a similar project then please contact the WMF grants team.
On a personal note, I am retiring from the Wikimedia community. Perhaps I will return someday.
Regards,
--Pine✉ 23:20, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in Universal Code of Conduct survey - WikiWomen's User Group
edit(You are receiving this message as you signed your interest to participate as part of the WikiWomen's User Group)
Hello, my name is Mervat Salman, a UCoC Facilitator, Trust and Safety team.
As you know, the WMF Board of Trustees ratified the Universal Code of Conduct early in February. That's the beginning; the policy itself cannot be used if the enforcement pathways are not defined. The implementation and enforcement of the UCoC requires the continuous cooperation to define clear definitions of enforcement pathways and processes. This needs to be done in a way that does not contradict with the internal bylaws and codes of conduct currently in place, but rather to support them and complement their deficiencies, if any.
In this phase of the process, we would like to invite you to share your ideas, thoughts and concerns about the UCoC implementation, reporting and enforcement pathways using this survey:
Notice: This survey will be conducted via a third-party service, which may subject it to additional terms. For more information on privacy and data-handling, see the survey privacy statement <https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/UCoC_Affiliates_Survey_Privacy_Statement>.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact msalman-ctr@wikimedia.org.
Best regards,
