Typo in 2022 Board Priorities

In foundation:2022 Board Priorities, "Implement a continuous improvement / education program for trustees Implement a trustee performance review process" is written on the same line but ostensibly "Implement a trustee..." is a separate thought and should have a paragraph break. czar 06:45, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Edits needed on foundation wiki

Hi. At https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Maps_Terms_of_Use#How_to_guides_and_more_information, the first 3 external links lead to pages that were moved and then deleted. The content was merged to mw:Help:Extension:Kartographer, which is already linked, so the only thing that is needed is removing the dead links. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 07:10, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

Also the 'Maps/Wikimedia Maps/2015-2017/Tile server implementation' link is to a page that doesn't exist --DannyS712 (talk) 07:33, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
@DannyS712: Thank you - I will ping the folks responsible for that content and ask for an update. Thanks! --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 17:08, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
@GVarnum-WMF: any update? --DannyS712 (talk) 19:37, 10 August 2019 (UTC)
@GVarnum-WMF Note that this is still not fixed. ~~~~

This has now been fixed. Thank you, @DannyS712 for the initial ping. Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 02:35, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

For the time being it mentions: "Chinese: AR PL UMing", well, there's an ongoing discussion on zhwiki: zh:Wikipedia:互助客栈/其他#提议将简体维基百科等的_logotype_换成思源宋体 to request changing it to use Source Han Serif (思源宋体/思源宋體) (d:Q29167853), another SIL OFL licensed CJK font powered by Adobe and Google, maybe we should also alter texts of this foundationwiki page? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:31, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

@Liuxinyu970226: Has there been resolution on the request to change? If they do change it officially, we can update it, but if it's still being discussed, probably best to wait. --Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 17:59, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
@GVarnum-WMF: FWIW, changing font of zh-hant counterpart has been approved by their community, but not yet for zh-hans. And for other sinophone users based Wikipedias, they're still discussing. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 12:56, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
@GVarnum-WMF: FYI: the change of zh-hans font is also approved but not configured on the cluster now. --Hamish 05:10, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
@GVarnum-WMF: ^^, are there any reason not to update so? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 04:52, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
@Liuxinyu970226 - updating logos is not a part of this wiki's scope. So the request should be managed on Phabricator as it requires a technical/code update. More information: Requesting wiki configuration changes Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 01:29, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

Anonymity of donors over $50,000

There is no upper bound to this category of donation. Would very large donations be completely altruistic or like political party donations have ties to soliciting policy direction? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Soundhill (talk) 11:27, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Minor issues with UCoC page

At https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Universal_Code_of_Conduct there are three minor issues.

1. When I click the "Feedback" link, I am taken to a "View Source" version of the page, not to any sort of feedback or discussion page. Please fix with a redirect or some other solution.

2. The first text in section 3.3, "Content vandalism and abuse of the projects", is not a sentence, but it should be in order to maintain parallel structure and be a grammatical continuation of the second clause in the lead of section 3.

3. The phrase "People who identify with a certain sexual orientation or gender identity using distinct names or pronouns" lacks parallel structure with the sentences around it. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:48, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

1. I believe this has been fixed in recent updates to MediaWiki and this wiki's configuration.
2 & 3. Are items for Talk:Universal Code of Conduct/Revised enforcement guidelines.
Thank you, @Jonesey95. Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 02:43, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

Clarifications on the cookie policy (regarding anonymous edits)

I think this may need to be discussed by WMF for changes to be approved, but I have a problem with this paragraph (emphasis mine):

Cookies are not required in order to read or edit the Wikimedia Sites. We use the information we receive from cookies and other locally-stored data technologies to make your experience with the Wikimedia Sites safer and better, to gain a greater understanding of user preferences and interactions with the Wikimedia Sites, and to generally improve our services. Cookies are required in order to login and for your edits to be associated to a user account; without cookies, your edits will be anonymous and unassociated with an account.

Since that non-registered edits are associated with the IP address, and certain IP address can be associated with a particular company or government (like this example), I think that it should be changed into something like this (edits are in boldtype):

Cookies are not required in order to read or edit the Wikimedia Sites. We use the information we receive from cookies and other locally-stored data technologies to make your experience with the Wikimedia Sites safer and better, to gain a greater understanding of user preferences and interactions with the Wikimedia Sites, and to generally improve our services. Cookies are required in order to login and for your edits to be associated to a user account; without cookies, your edits will be unassociated with an account. Instead, it will be associated with the IP address of your computer. In most cases this will only identify roughly the country or city where you made the edit, however in some cases (like inside a company) this may specifically identify the place where you made the edit.

Unified login

Wikimedia Foundation Governance Wiki is a "private" wiki, Help:Unified login cannot be used to log into Wikimedia Foundation Governance Wiki, and ordinary user cannot create a new account, right?

I think these should be stated in:

Otherwise there could be some confusion: "Is that because I don't have an account, or the password is wrong, that I can't log into the Governance Wiki? " "How to create an account on Governance Wiki?" "Why is my unified login account not working, is that due to some technical problems?" etc. Tomchen1989 (talk) 08:25, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

I'm not sure. There are dozens of other private wikis, do we need to list them all on the help page? ~~~~

I'm saying this because I wanted to add a new translation for the foundation:Terms of Use (I'm one of the translators of the previous version), but got very confused about the Governance Wiki's login, where to translate the Terms of Use, etc. See Talk:Terms of use#Confusions. Unified login is now available on Wikimedia Foundation Governance Wiki. Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 04:35, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

Are password managers a violation of Section 5 of the Terms of Use?

Initially, I had been using Google's password manager to make and store my Wikimedia password. However, once I found out that you may not disclose passwords to a third party, I stopped using it. For this reason, I had forgotten the password to my former account (which had no email attached to it) and later created this account. Caehlla2357 (talk) 17:30, 16 July 2021 (UTC)

Update link on licensing policy

Can someone update the link at foundation:Resolution:Licensing policy from http://freedomdefined.org/Definition (which is currently 1.1) to https://freedomdefined.org/Definition/1.0 as the text specifically refers to the 1.0 definition? — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 22:45, 8 August 2021 (UTC)

This has been updated. Thank you! Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 04:36, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

Office actions policy link

The link for the office actions policy is currently written as an external link. It would be more consistent to have it be a cross-wiki link, like the other policies that are hosted on Meta. (It is the only 'external' link on the page.)

More precisely, Office actions policy could be replaced by Office actions policy ([https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Office_actions Office actions policy] => [[m:Office_actions|Office actions policy]]).

I don't have an account on the WMF Governance Wiki, so someone else who does would have to make the change.

Thanks, BentSm (talk) 01:44, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

I just realized that I failed to specify which page needed the edit: foundation:Policies BentSm (talk) 03:33, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

'Governance' –> 'WMF Governance'

Repeating a comment from elsewhere : is wmf: still intended to be exclusively for WMF policies, and WMF-facilitated global policies, not other movement policies?

If so, please leave the first word in 'WMF Governance wiki' so there's no confusion 😊 –SJ talk  23:29, 28 December 2021 (UTC)

@Sj: Just to close the loop on this - are there some specific places we should update to "Wikimedia Foundation Governance Wiki"? Thank you! Gregory Varnum (Wikimedia Foundation) [he/him] (talk) 04:41, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for looping. I just changed a few on this page, it looks clear to me. –SJ talk  18:09, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

InternetArchiveBot

I would like to offer to run InternetArchiveBot's dead link fixing service for the foundation governance wiki. Given how old some of the content is, there is a good possibility there are some broken links. The work would mainly consist of replacing broken URLs with equivalent archives. Harej (talk) 14:45, 16 October 2022 (UTC)

Thank you, @Harej, for the offer! Would it be possible to limit the scope? There are some lingering archived material (which is increasingly marked as such) and outdated translations (which we are working to resolve in other ways) where this would be less valuable.
