Edits needed on foundation wikiEdit

For the time being it mentions: "Chinese: AR PL UMing", well, there's an ongoing discussion on zhwiki: zh:Wikipedia:互助客栈/其他#提议将简体维基百科等的_logotype_换成思源宋体 to request changing it to use Source Han Serif (思源宋体/思源宋體) (d:Q29167853), another SIL OFL licensed CJK font powered by Adobe and Google, maybe we should also alter texts of this foundationwiki page? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:31, 29 May 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Translation errorEdit

In Italian version, section "14. Esoneri da responsabilità", the phrase "crea qualsiasi garanzia non espressamente dichiara in queste Condizioni d'uso" has to be changed in "crea qualsiasi garanzia non espressamente dichiarata in queste Condizioni d'uso". Minor issues with UCoC pageEdit

At there are three minor issues.

1. When I click the "Feedback" link, I am taken to a "View Source" version of the page, not to any sort of feedback or discussion page. Please fix with a redirect or some other solution.

2. The first text in section 3.3, "Content vandalism and abuse of the projects", is not a sentence, but it should be in order to maintain parallel structure and be a grammatical continuation of the second clause in the lead of section 3.

3. The phrase "People who identify with a certain sexual orientation or gender identity using distinct names or pronouns" lacks parallel structure with the sentences around it. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:48, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Clarifications on the cookie policy (regarding anonymous edits)Edit

I think this may need to be discussed by WMF for changes to be approved, but I have a problem with this paragraph (emphasis mine):

Cookies are not required in order to read or edit the Wikimedia Sites. We use the information we receive from cookies and other locally-stored data technologies to make your experience with the Wikimedia Sites safer and better, to gain a greater understanding of user preferences and interactions with the Wikimedia Sites, and to generally improve our services. Cookies are required in order to login and for your edits to be associated to a user account; without cookies, your edits will be anonymous and unassociated with an account.

Since that non-registered edits are associated with the IP address, and certain IP address can be associated with a particular company or government (like this example), I think that it should be changed into something like this (edits are in boldtype):

Unified loginEdit

Wikimedia Foundation Governance Wiki is a "private" wiki, Help:Unified login cannot be used to log into Wikimedia Foundation Governance Wiki, and ordinary user cannot create a new account, right?

I think these should be stated in:

Otherwise there could be some confusion: "Is that because I don't have an account, or the password is wrong, that I can't log into the Governance Wiki?   • For Help:Unified login: The lead section of Help:Unified login says "[...]reserved across all Wikimedia sister projects (except some special wikis e.g. Wikitech).[...]", clearly it's not that unimportant, otherwise editor wouldn't put this sentence in the lead section there. It would be good to elaborate a little bit, listing other "special wikis" in a later section.
  • For "UserLogin" page of Wikimedia Foundation Governance Wiki and Wikimedia Foundation Governance Wiki: clearly it's important to tell wikimedia unified account users "you don't have an account and you can't register a new account here", otherwise just let many of them be super confused and try to type the password (which won't work) and reset the password (which won't work either)? Are password managers a violation of Section 5 of the Terms of Use?Edit

Initially, I had been using Google's password manager to make and store my Wikimedia password. However, once I found out that you may not disclose passwords to a third party, I stopped using it. Office actions policy linkEdit

The link for the office actions policy is currently written as an external link. It would be more consistent to have it be a cross-wiki link, like the other policies that are hosted on Meta. (It is the only 'external' link on the page.)

More precisely, Office actions policy could be replaced by Office actions policy ([ Office actions policy] => [[m:Office_actions|Office actions policy]]).

I don't have an account on the WMF Governance Wiki, so someone else who does would have to make the change.

Repeating a comment from elsewhere : is wmf: still intended to be exclusively for WMF policies, and WMF-facilitated global policies, not other movement policies?

Typo in 2022 Board PrioritiesEdit

I would like to offer to run InternetArchiveBot's dead link fixing service for the foundation governance wiki. Given how old some of the content is, there is a good possibility there are some broken links. The work would mainly consist of replacing broken URLs with equivalent archives. Wht I don't donateEdit

Hello, I use Wikipedia for a variety of tasks and generally find it to be accurate. But in today’s highly charged socio-political environment, I have noticed bias in Wikipedia topics related to the “soft sciences:” politics, sociology, economics, etc. I have found many instances where such articles are slanted, misleading, incomplete, or in some cases, downright incorrect.

This was a tough decision. I’ve donated in the past and I fully understand that Wikipedia is crowd sourced, and that you could not possibly oversee all who supply or manage content. Wikipedia’s value to the world is great, but with me it came down to weighing that value against the harm done by mass, high speed distribution of misinformation. I have decided that no information is better than bad information. I honestly can’t think of a solution to this problem other than a raising of the awareness and discrimination of the general public. Please delete the Finnish ToU translation in Foundation wikiEdit

The Finnish translation was imported from Meta in 2015 and hasn't been updated since. I don't see value in keeping another copy of the ToU translation on an "external" website (as it is a closed wiki), where volunteers can't maintain it. It might make sense for the bigger languages suchs as German and French, but Finnish is such a small language and it's quite random to have a translation of it there. If it's not possible to link to the Meta translation from the Foundation wiki, I think it's better to not have any translation there. kyykaarme (talk) 17:15, 25 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
