Special:Maintenance reports

Hope I am at the right place: Is it possible to exclude following namespaces from maintenance reports?

• User
• Translations
• Talk all namespaces

additional the section Translation requests, because there are very old pages (2005-2010) with many problems inside, which can only be solved with <nowiki>.

Reason: It is senseless repairing wrong templates (Wanted Templates) or broken links / redirects (see Special Pages) in these sections, because they apply to insignificant content. Especial translation namespace has tons of entries in language subpages, which doesn't exist in English source page. If these pages are listed you have to add a translate tag with the old entry number in source, mark it for translation, correct the wrong language entry, remove the temporary entry from source and mark it additional for translation. Maybe a sysop could delete these pages (i.e. Translations:Grants:Evaluation/Glossary/7/en), because using template TNTN generates a pseudo template with the tvar (i.e. {{Template:$tmplLink}}. If it is possible to set filters for the above named sections, maintenance work would be much more effective. (sorry for this short story) --Plagiat (talk) 05:08, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

OTRS in all projects

I read that OTRS is part of the Wikimedia Foundation. Are all OTRS projects, like Wikipedia OTRS and Commons OTRS, different from each other? --George Ho (talk) 20:58, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

Questions from a prospective OTRS volunteer

Hi there. I was interested by the advertisement at en:Wikipedia talk:Teahouse#OTRS recruitment (I saw a similar one a couple of months ago, but at the time thought I would not fit), and I have some questions that I could not answer myself by reading the pages.

1. I am OK with signing the confidentiality agreement. I am at least 16 years of age. I confirmed my email address. However I am not OK with providing the WMF with my full (real) name, date of birth, etc. - all other information that would come with a copy of my ID. Is that required?
2. Have I a shot? I have a fairly low edit count on the content pages of en-WP, though I spent a lot of time at AfD, help desk/teahouse and other newbie-facing pages, so I guess I fit the profile. However, I have no idea how much is enough. If requests at OTRS/Volunteering were accepted and declined as is the case on most en-WP permission pages, I could check the page history and have an idea of the water temperature, but here I cannot see that.

I want to know why the religion of any given individual who is the subject of a Wiki biography has been removed from the sidebar of the Wiki biography of that individual.

Hello Lenx BC. As stated on IRC, your request needs to be approved by an OTRS admin that will guide you through the process. However, you do not have enough wiki-experience - in my opinion - to be granted access. An OTRS volunteer and I piss off a photographer who donates his photos but got a flaw in the donation process.

Hi all,

I want to share an incident that I have no idea how I can do better. Taiwania Justo was doing his volunteer work of reviewing the photos that may have unclear and incorrect licensing process, he found a Taiwanese uploader who has provided 6 high quality photos of the indigenous people in Taiwan but he used the copyright template in the photo's metadata wrongly. Taiwania Justo then decide to go with the ordinary process when discover this, which is propose deletion to the uploader (See this link). But then there is no responses regarding the issue from the uploader.

Taiwania Justo then asked for help if anyone can contact the uploader in our Facebook group (See this link), then luckily we found the uploader's Facebook account. Since I guess the uploader may not have the habits to read his talk page, so I invite him and Taiwan Justo in one Facebook string to explain to him what processes he is lacking so he can complete those process and donate the photos properly. However, we get a rather negative chat response to told us he feel it's very rude to doubt himself is not the author who took the photos and he already express his will to donate these photos in CC0, and then he got impatient in the following discussion.

I feel frustrated in this kind of scenario. I want to help with the uploader to provide enough evidence so his donation on commons can fit into the general process. In the mean time, I also want to make him understand the bureaucratic process is not targeting him but a general measures.

Does anyone face the similar situation? How can you make the photographer not feeling irritated and also follow the copyright waiver?

I have another case about this problem. One years ago, a physics education society which consist of physic teachers persuaded some members to donate their teaching video to Wikimedia Commons. Though we help them all passed OTRS, some teachers were disturbed when they were asked to do something to prove that they are authors of these videos really. They might feel that they are not trusted by Wikimedian, I guess.--Reke (talk) 03:43, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

My advice to institutions is very simple, do not use OTRS. The right copyright release can be given on their own websites, or they can consider using an official Flickrstream which is linked from their home website or even just tweeted about in their official twitter account. This way, anyone can verify images uploaded to Commons without relying on secret records on a database which has no guarantees to be maintained by the WMF. Real smart cookies will even ensure that copies of their relevant institution pages are archived at archive.org for future reference, this avoids seeing things deleted a few years after upload, when it turns out that later website managers moved their pages about, or even deleted them.

As for the individual photographer, the same applies, consider releasing work on Flickr first. --Fæ (talk) 14:36, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

That will be a good idea if the authors publish the files on their own website. But the point is that they don't feel good when we told them to do something to prove they own their files, whether it's OTRS or changing license.--Reke (talk) 20:18, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
