Talk:Training modules/dashboard/slides
@JSutherland (WMF): One of the constraints of the system is that every slide must have unique id, and to help with that the convention I use is to have each module use a block of 100 ids. I also started the on-wiki slides numbering from 10000 so that they will not collide with hard-coded slides. Looks like you're following that pattern with the 10200 series for the online harassment slides. Let's use this page to document which modules go with which ids. If you run past 100 slides for the module, you can claim a second hundred block. I moved the 'Editing Wikipedia' module to the 10300 series, since I just have 3 slides for that up so far. So if you get past 10299, you can continue from 10401 and mark it at the start of the slide links.--Ragesock (talk) 22:57, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks, Ragesock! Yeah, I guessed that was how you were doing it. I'm fairly sure we won't need more than 99 slides for the harassment module but I'll be sure to skip up to 400 if we do. (You might also want to use something like 10900... for those ones? I don't know if that would be easier.) Joe Sutherland (WMF) (talk) 23:17, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
Slide markup constraints
editSome of these can be fixed, with varying degrees of work. @Kbrown (WMF) and JSutherland (WMF): If you find other things not working well, please jot them down here.--Ragesock (talk) 16:26, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
- What doesn't work currently
- Internal wikilinks. Workaround: use external links instead.
References and footnotes. We'll need to figure out a standard format for these, possibly by using another template like {{Training module quiz}} and {{Training module image}}.- @JSutherland (WMF): It looks like I can get the markdown parser to understand footnotes, so normal ref tags should work. Hoping to get that deployed today.--Ragesock (talk) 15:57, 25 February 2017 (UTC)
- These work now.--Ragesock (talk) 16:29, 25 February 2017 (UTC)
- What won't work
- Indendented bullets (:*). Sub-bullets work, but indented bullets without a parent bullet do not. This is because markdown has no way to express that bit of mediawiki syntax.

Need to mark for translation
edit@Kaganer:@Sage Ross (WMF):@Whatamidoing (WMF): Hi everyone, we keep going with the translations to Basque related to training modules/slides. Essentials and Basics in the Editing section are done. Could you please mark for translation some more subsections in order to use them in the Basque Education Program. Thanks in advance --Iñaki LL (talk) 19:26, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Iñaki LL: See Evaluating Articles (Slide ids: 109XX) . --Kaganer (talk) 14:08, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Kaganer: Thank you! That section will be done by a fellow translator, could you also mark the following subsections? --Iñaki LL (talk) 14:20, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- Iñaki LL, I'm marking up the medical section now, but you might want to talk to the translators about adapting that. The "WP:MEDRS" described there is specific to the English Wikipedia, and only a few Wikipedias have any specific rules about biomedical content. For example, although the German Wikipedia has an extensive guideline on the subject, I don't think it rejects sources older than five years.
- User:Bluerasberry, is this sort of cross-cultural issue something that interests you? Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 19:22, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- Check Training modules/dashboard/slides/11307-move-out-from-the-sandbox: Not all wikis have "Sandbox" links in the user bar, and some users will find those links in the upper left rather than the upper right (based on the user language chosen by the individual editor, in Special:Preferences). Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 19:33, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- Similarly, the Basque Wikipedia doesn't have the gadget that Training modules/dashboard/slides/11404-using-cite-gadget describes. Very few wikis do. But it does have the citoid service enabled, as does enwiki, so Training modules/dashboard/slides/11405-add-citation-using-visualeditor is wrong. User:Theklan or User:Ragesoss, do you want to look into updating that page? I think you might want File:VisualEditor Citoid Inspector-en.png for the image. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 19:45, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Whatamidoing (WMF): On medical and enwp WP:MEDRS, no, we have not got that, responsibility lies totally on the reader, a disclaimer at the top of the article makes it very clear. I would have to consider either strictly adapting the whole enwp medical series, or omitting it altogether.
- @Kaganer: Thank you! That section will be done by a fellow translator, could you also mark the following subsections? --Iñaki LL (talk) 14:20, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- By contrast, we do have a citing gadget like the one described in Training modules/dashboard/slides/11405-add-citation-using-visualeditor, so the explanation retains full validity. The Citoid Inspector is localized since last year, see here --Iñaki LL (talk) 22:46, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- Yes: your wiki has citoid enabled, but the slide is still showing the old, non-citoid one. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:00, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

- @Whatamidoing (WMF): Please add language box in each slide (see diff)) --Kaganer (talk) 13:19, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for the note. Any editor can do that. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 17:59, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

- Hello, I helped a bit to create the original English medical guides. I might like to help update them in the future but do not have capacity to participate in a project at this time. I appreciate anyone else's attention here. The guides are beginner level and should not have changed much. Blue Rasberry (talk) 17:17, 21 December 2017 (UTC)

Translation transferred to slides
edit@Kaganer:@Sage Ross (WMF):@Whatamidoing (WMF): Hi! The translation to Basque of Editing module slides is near completion. Still I cannot work out how to visualize (apart from 103xx and 108xx, completed some time ago) the translations done so far in their own slide, like this here. Can you put the translations into the slide format so that I can see what they look like? (They typically have links at the top in the language menu bar, English and Basque so far, etc.) --Iñaki LL (talk) 16:45, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Iñaki LL: Just update your subpage User:Iñaki LL/Slides-eu (or create another one). --Kaganer (talk) 20:41, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Kaganer: O, I don't know if I missed something, but the slides (with the two language option) are not showing, I mean sth like this. --Iñaki LL (talk) 21:20, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
- The thing is I have managed without it so far, but pushing the the reload button does not make any difference (only a "Done!" message), in case you meant that by 'update'. --Iñaki LL (talk) 06:35, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Iñaki LL: Nope ;) "Reload" is command for transferring actual version into dashboard. "Update" in my reply means, that you may edit your subpage as wikitext ("edit source") and may add new slides or set of slides. Or you may create similar subpage by these same way. --Kaganer (talk) 12:57, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

Update translation (en-ja)
edit@Whatamidoing (WMF), hi, on translating "slides/12107-partner-role-and-goals", I have updated some paragraphs in ja. When and how will it propagate on the designated page? The previous version of en-ja translation was not bad, though better unify terminology IMHO. Cheers, -- Omotecho (talk) 03:35, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
- I don't remember how all the pieces fit together here. We should probably ask Sage (Wiki Ed), who set up the page originally. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 04:05, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- Omotecho: You can trigger an update of the Dashboard's translations by going to the index page for the training module — in this case, here — and clicking 'Reload from source'. I've done so for this one. After that, any updated translations should be ready for that module, here in this case.--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:50, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Sage (Wiki Ed), thank you so much for your practical support. Geee, so the "Success!" window is a great hand clap for our work, nice. ((: I will finish a few more pages this weekend. Cheers, -- Omotecho (talk) 15:15, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
