Request for CentralNotice banner

Hello. The Wikimedians of Colombia user group needs your kind help with a CentralNotice banner for colombian users.

The information is the following:

  • link: http://wikimediacolombia.org/vacaciones/
  • dates: from today (or the closest possible date) until January 31th, 2016
  • logged-in and anonymous users
  • only in CO (Colombia). Only in Spanish projects + Commons.
  • text1: ¡Participa en Wikivacaciones 2015!
  • text2: Gana premios saliendo de vacaciones por Colombia y ayudando al conocimiento libre.
  • image: File:Wikivacaciones.png

Thanks in advance for the help! --Racso ¿¿¿??? 01:48, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

--Racso ¿¿¿??? 14:52, 4 December 2015 (UTC)
Listo. Matiia (talk) 15:01, 4 December 2015 (UTC)
Gracias por todo, @Matiia:. --Racso ¿¿¿??? 00:08, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
No hay problema. :) Matiia (talk) 00:38, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Add a new section for translation

Hi, I need to add a new section here with the sentence "payment slip". I am modifying the banner for Swiss fundraising and I suppose to don't have the admin rights to modify this page. --Ilario (talk) 23:27, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

Have you tried to add it from Special:CentralNoticeBanners/edit/B15 WMCH Millions? Matiia (talk) 00:38, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Request for Wikipedia Library Mass Message Announcing New Access Signups

Hi,

We'd like to globally announce new Wikipedia Library access signups, per our usual process of informing every community they are eligible for new publisher access. (I'd use my personal account's mass message rights but WMF wisely prohibits that for 'official business'.)

Can someone help please?

-Thank you!! Ocaasi (WMF) (talk) 01:01, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

Apparently   Done by Matiia. As a   Comment I would suggest that such messages are first put somewhere and translators asked to translate them, and only then they should be distributed (in wiki's language if then avaliliable) unless something is absolutely urgent (that even several hours could not be spared). --Base (talk) 01:26, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

Request for an anonnotice on frwiki

Hi,

Since June 2015, with the support of Wikimedia France we are a little group of experimented contributors creating a Mooc on frwiki. It aims to teach how to contribute to wikipedia and presents the backside of the community. All the work is available here if you want to take a look. We are currently recording the courses' videos, but the enrolment will start soon, the 14th of December and will stay open until the beginning of the course, mid-February.

We have already ask for the french community agreement on our Bistro, no one oppose. We would like to know if it will be possible to add an annonnotice some days during this period, to invite visitors to join those lessons? For example:

Thanks in advance for the help! — 0x010C ~talk~ 13:59, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

Please note that, in our template, there is not the definitive link; we will know it monday in the evening. Regards, Jules78120 (talk) 14:10, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
The agreement mentioned is fr:Wikipédia:Le Bistro#Le_WikiMOOC.2C_c.27est_pour_bient.C3.B4t_.21? --Base (talk) 21:38, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
@Base: yes! There were only two answers, but no one oppose. (For the context: we previously talked to the community about the project and lot of Wikipedians follow us on Twitter, so community is globally aware of the project) Jules78120 (talk) 21:48, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
I have created a draft campaign for the time being. Someone with better CSS than mine needs to improve the banner because now it sucks. --Base (talk) 23:11, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
Thanks a lot, @Base:. Does anybody have CSS knowledge to center the text vertically and improve the .cn-closeButton (with background-color:#6599c9;) please? Best regards, Jules78120 (talk) 23:23, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
The URL to use in the banner is this one: https://www.france-universite-numerique-mooc.fr/courses/WMFr/86001/session01/about. It will be accessible monday around 12:00 UTC. Jules78120 (talk) 15:06, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
URLs to third party websites are not allowed unless there is a notice informing the user about it. --Glaisher (talk) 17:21, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Also why can't the local Anonnotice be used? --Glaisher (talk) 17:22, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
@Glaisher: Thank you for your answers. What is exactly "a notice informing the user about it"?
And for local Anonnotice: we just have no technical skills in our group about sitenotices, and there is no help page about fr:MediaWiki:Anonnotice on frwiki. Can you explain us in a few words what the difference is with CentralNotice? Is it easier to use the local anonnotice, please? Jules78120 (talk) 18:47, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Anonnotice is actually much easier for wikimedians to set, since is uses wikimarkup, not raw css/js/html as CentralNotice does (so for instance you can just transclude that template there). Here's basic info on site and anon notices: mw:Manual:Interface/Sitenotice. The disadvantage is that if there's also a cental notice set both banners will be shown (which considering the height of this year's fundraising banners may well end up being about 100% of height on small screens), while if it is done by central notice, central notices rotate. As to the notice about the link I believe something like "(third party's site)" or similar words clearly indicating that the link goes beyond Wikimedia sites should do. --Base (talk) 19:30, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
@Base: Thank you very much for your help. Two last questions (sorry): if I read correctly Special:CentralNotice, there are at least two banners on fr.wiki during the same period: one in Canada, and a second one in Switzerland? So maybe it's better to use CentralNotice in our case, to avoid two banners on a same screen for Canadians and Swiss?
If we use CentralNotice, something like that is ok? (but very unsightly :/)
Jules78120 (talk) 20:00, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Speaking of Switzerland, it looks that Popo le Chien doesn't want the banner in there. It complicates the situation. --Base (talk) 14:14, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
No worries Base, it's just that we are wrapping up the last days of our fundraising. I've put the MOOC annoucement back on in CH/LI. Popo le Chien (talk) 17:38, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
Popo le Chien It looks that that is not important now any more as the requesters decided to use local anonnotice, but thank you for your action, I appreciate that. --Base (talk) 18:17, 13 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi , excuse me, i have modified a little the banner (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projet:Aide_et_accueil/WikiMOOC/CentralNotice_2). Is it ok like that ? the term "site tiers" i don't like. please, give a feedback, is it ok or not? what we have to do? Vatadoshu (talk) 21:41, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

and if it pose probleme for little screen, we could remove the banner for them with a code like this:

@media screen and (max-width: 1024px)
#wikiMOOC
{display: none;}}

ok, this code don't works ... but you see the idea. (my skills in css and html are limited i can't do a code that works) Vatadoshu (talk) 11:58, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

uh? you know the date to the banner?

it begins Monday the 14th (in the evening) to Sunday the 20th of December, it is urgent!!!

why nobody respond? Vatadoshu (talk) 21:02, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

Matiia, Glaisher, PiRSquared17 can you guys take a look? --Base (talk) 14:14, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
That code is not working because you're missing the opening curly brace (after (max-width: 1024px)). I'm still of the opinion that you should use the frwiki anonnotice not CentralNotice. --Glaisher (talk) 15:02, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
Hello. We will eventually use frwiki anonnotice; a Wikipedian with skills in HTML/CSS helped us. Thank you for your help, @Base:  . Regards, Jules78120 (talk) 15:04, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
@Base and Glaisher: the banner is ready for anonnotice on frwiki, so you can delete the CentralNotice banner, which is now useless. Thanks, Jules78120 (talk) 20:26, 13 December 2015 (UTC)
thanks for your response Glaisher and Base (even if i find it a little late) Vatadoshu (talk) 19:59, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

It don't work, we have trouble with anonnotice, we have reported the bug on phabricator https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T108811. Registrations have started and we have failed to put the banner for the registrations . The WikiMOOC will start the 22 february, and we need to put the banner early january. On phabricator, they don't want to change the priority so we will not have a banner annonotice.

They say "No, there is a workaround: use CentralNotice." So we need things clear now, and quick responses. Is it possible to put our banner with centralnotice as we can't put it with annonotice?. Vatadoshu (talk) 10:46, 19 December 2015 (UTC)

What is the problem with local anonnotice? Perhaps it could be solved. As to CN, yes, but somebody must do it. I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to set it ok as I'm not very good at CSS. When do you need it, as it's already 19th, I thought you had no problems with local notice since you reported none. --Base (talk) 10:55, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
Base the banner appear at the bottom of the page and not at the top like on this image present in the comment of Jules dated of "Dec 14, 4:14 PM" in the phabricator ticket . https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T108811. So we had to remove it. We thinked it could be resolved but it can't like the priority of the ticket on phabricator is not "unbreak now", it will take time. And we have no time.(ticket : https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T108811). You can see the discussion on phabricator. For the dates user:jules78120 perhaps have more details. I just know at the beginning of January we would like the banner. Which dates exactly? (i don't have this information).
"I thought you had no problems with local notice since you reported none"->we tried to manage the problem and thinked we can solve it with a report phabricator that would be quickly resolved, it can't. And you have been a little inflexible saying "no , use annonotice". But we have no workaround, only central notice, so we come back. Vatadoshu (talk) 11:17, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
I could create a CN but the request here says that the campaign should end tomorrow (20th December) but at the task, it says it needs to start in January. What's the exact date that it should start/end? --Glaisher (talk) 15:01, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
Hi Glaisher  ,
Thanks for your answer! As we are quite close to Christmas, just a few days before will be enough, so make it end the 23th of December for example will be great, and we will in a second time plan a second campaign in the early January (hopefully with the local anonnotice).
Best regards — 0x010C ~talk~ 20:44, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
I just had a talk with Jules78120, and we finally thought that it would be inefficient to launch it now. So we wish to plan only one campaign, from the 4th to the 14th of January 2016. Thanks — 0x010C ~talk~ 21:22, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
thanks too. Vatadoshu (talk) 16:50, 20 December 2015 (UTC)

Request for MassMessage sender right

Hi

As part of my job, I sometimes need to take care of Tech/News (TN), which requires MassMessaging. I may be a backup on Visual Editor newsletter too.

TN has been sent by Quiddity (WMF) for this week, but I request the right to MassMessage for the next time.

Thanks, Trizek (WMF) (talk) 18:40, 21 December 2015 (UTC)

Undelete page

I'm not sure why Grants:APG/FDC recommendations/2014-2015 round 2/Certification was deleted by @FuzzyBot:, but please could it be undeleted? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 21:58, 21 December 2015 (UTC)

Done, hopefully the bot doesn't delete it again. (Can someone please make the translate extension less disruptive?) Ajraddatz (talk) 22:00, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
Thank you, @Ajraddatz:! Mike Peel (talk) 22:02, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
The bot doesn't delete pages on its own (if it does, then that's wrong). It only deletes if an administrator requests it. [1] --Glaisher (talk) 04:26, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
It wasn't even a translation page though, so the bot had no business going near it. It is also entirely possible for the bot to delete pages that an admin didn't want it to - it's done that with me a few times. OK I actually read the log and that makes more sense, though still not sure why the bot deleted it. All the history was moved over so honestly I don't understand why the deletion was requested, @MarcoAurelio:? Ajraddatz (talk) 04:29, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
@Ajraddatz and MarcoAurelio: The page at Grants:APG/FDC recommendations/2014-2015 round 2 had been copy-paste moved, so I requested it be speedy deleted so that the original version could be moved there (which it now has, hence why you see the full history there now). I guess the bot thought that the /Certification subpage was a translation page, not a different page all together, which is why it got deleted. All sorted now. Thanks! Mike Peel (talk) 10:47, 22 December 2015 (UTC)

Taking advice from User:MarcoAurelio, I request temporary flood flag for my current edits (related to the mass creation of categories and clearing list of wanted categories), so as not to flood the RecentChanges. It is expected at least 5,000 new categories... ;) --Kaganer (talk) 13:00, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

I don't think simply assigning flood flag hides the edits from RC. You need to set the bot parameter while saving and if you're doing edits through the normal WikiEditor, it probably won't be set. I might be wrong though. If so, there is no point in assigning this flag. Can you confirm that you're using the normal editor? Regards, --Glaisher (talk) 10:23, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
What you said it's true. Assigned Glaisher the flag, checked RC, it is not working. —MarcoAurelio 12:51, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
Yes, I using the normal editor. --Kaganer (talk) 13:09, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
Special:APISandbox is an easy-to-use alternative to the standard editing interface (where bot=1 may be set). --Vogone (talk) 13:15, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
The normal editor sets bot=1 every time, if you got a botflag. (At least at dewiki, should be here too) Greetings, --Luke081515 14:59, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
Please read what has been written above before commenting. Thanks, Vogone (talk) 18:02, 25 December 2015 (UTC)

Do we block users with provoking usernames? If yes, here is the one. Thanks. --Ochilov (talk) 19:43, 25 December 2015 (UTC)

@MZMcBride: do you still need this test account? Matiia (talk) 19:47, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
There is obviously no need to block it, regardless of whether he does. --MF-W 03:20, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
Hi. I'm certainly not using this account. Looking at my edits from January 2011 (such as this one), User:Meta-Wiki is a silly płace appears to be a throwaway user account that was created to test non-ASCII support using TUSC in conjunction with Toolserver/watcher.
The username isn't really provocative and I don't see a reason to block the account. That said, I had forgotten about creating the account and almost certainly don't remember its password, so I don't care if it gets blocked. --MZMcBride (talk) 07:05, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
Not done - no bad faith account and inactive, but with responsible user identified. Indeed Meta is sometimes a silly place, but we love it, isn't it :-) —MarcoAurelio 17:10, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
MarcoAurelio, sure, we love Meta :) --Ochilov (talk) 06:17, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

Meta:Sandbox translation issues

Hi. In spite of not having checked the "delete all subpages", when performing an history purge on the sandbox, FuzzyBot deleted everything else (subpages, translation units, etc.). I've restored them all, but I think not everything has been correctly done. As such, I wonder if you could review and repair if necessary. Thanks. —MarcoAurelio 12:51, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

If FuzzyBot did delete everything without the checkbox being selected, (also see section above) it should probably be reported. --Glaisher (talk) 13:07, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
Prior to report, I'd like to run few more tests. I'm sure I did not checked the checkbox though. I'm now much worried about the ruining of the translations though :-( —MarcoAurelio 17:09, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
