Project Goal edit

Choose one or more of the following goals. You can add or delete goals as needed.

  1. Introduce Wiki Loves Africa project to existing and new contributors of wiki commons, and share all about Wiki Loves Africa and its purpose.
  2. Recruit loyal contributors (professional photographers and non professional)to wikipedia and its sister projects.
  3. Engage existing contributors and encourage them to continue contributing even when the contest is over.

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community?

Wiki Loves Africa 2021 in Botswana will focus on photo shooting activities under the theme health and wellness. Pictures uploaded on Commons will be used to illustrate and improve articles related to Botswana and Africa under health and wellness on wikipedia and its sister project. A series of 3 edit a thorns.

2. How will you let people know about the contest?

They will be contacted on the Wiki Loves Africa Botswana Facebook page and the Wikimedia Botswana User-group page. Then use of banners to advertise the contest to local Wikipedia readers, and promote it on Facebook page.

3. How will you judge the contest and award prizes?

We will have a panel of 3 judges who will set criteria for best images and use these as a basis to select the best images for local awards.


4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

The event would be in person for 3 days and virtual activities to the end of the year. Participant who are not able to bring along their laptops during our 3 day physical meetups would share with their colleague under covid-19 strict guideline, we will also provide participant with data scholarships to the end of the year.

5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

Participant would be engaged after the training through our social media channel, so that if they are having any challenges we would be able to support them.

6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more:

For photo contests:

  1. Number of participants 25
  2. Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons 350+
  3. Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects 25+
  4. 4 months after the event, 50 of uploaded photos are categorized as valued, quality or featured.
