--Vermondo 12:14, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  2. It's also their work. Like I said above, supporters probably often fancy themselves as sometimes-editors as well, even if only IP. I think it's important that we foster that self-identity that they are "the kind of person that contributes to Wikipedia", even if all they've done in the past is correct typos. Gigs 01:02, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Same problem with the 'this page' issue, since screenshots of it above unsavory content will look very bad. Otherwise, I like. Consider changing 'this page' to 'Wikipedia'. Also, support 'our' work has a bit of the us/them issue. Not sure what the best ask would be, but maybe something different Ocaasi 11:07, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Or just "this". But I'm not sure that a general statement on the whole project will work as well as a more direct one to the actual page the reader is viewing. 1. Love the idea! Wording nitpicks: languages and countries are kinda the same thing. replace it with something else (editors? edits? readers?). Also would replace entries with articles. Renata3 01:07, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, languages and countries are very different things. For example, English is a language, spoken in countries like England, Australia, New Zealand and the USA Jebus989 20:05, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure if Renata3 meant "the same thing" as in languages and countries are the same concept; perhaps he meant they both have the same effect. 119.74.135.219 10:33, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Perhaps the number of users (readers) can be included? Hundreds of millions if I'm not wrong. Also, you might want to tread carefully with the no. of countries listed. 270 – does that include unrecognised and irredentist states? 119.74.135.219 10:33, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  3. A nice idea. It seems a little wordy, but the message somehow takes away that negative.
  4. Why $35? That might be too much for some people. Lexicografía 21:47, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    $35 is our average donation --Deniz (WMF) 22:49, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Average or median? One 100,000 $ donation and nine 10 $ produces an average of 10,009 $, whereas the median and more likely donation is only 10 $. --88.130.160.172 10:24, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    Average. --Nemo 08:09, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Like it, but I'd use a smaller amount too. User:Elitre
  6. Reasonable idea, but I don't know what the 'animation' is all about. $35 seems high, but some-odd-number is good. $23? $17? something lesser. As above - median, not mean. Chzz 00:45, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  7. I began drawing a picture of the WMF becoming PBS with this banner. :)) --Sky Harbor (talk) 07:50, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  8. Countries is definitely wrong. And I don't think that throwing a money amount into the reader's face is a good idea to improve click-rate, given previous tests. --Nemo 08:09, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Quite possible but we've found that improving click rate is by far not the most important thing. Banners that have something about donating are tending to have a higher conversion rate and more donations. The "curious" ones just have people click and not donate. Jalexander 07:36, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  9. I don't think having a suggested figure in the banner is a good idea, that is far better done on the landing page. Otherwise it's not bad. the wub "?!" 23:31, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    • While I like what you're saying, Yair rand, I worry that linking people to anything but the donation form from the banners will result in potential drop-off prior to hitting the donation pages. Philippe (WMF) 18:39, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notes: Is "We" vs "You" a message that we like? Philippe (WMF) 20:55, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe instead it could say: Wikipedia is there for you every day. Be there for Wikipedia today. Ocaasi 05:58, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I presume you mean that it would substitute the local site name? As in, "Wikibooks is there for you every day..."? Philippe (WMF) 17:19, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I figure the majority of funds will come from Wikipedia. But substitutions can be made on any ad. I think they mock-up better without 'Meta' as a placeholder. User:Ocaasi 01:20, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Only a good one if we use "wikipedia" instead of "we" Till Mletzko (WMDE) 09:42, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notes:

  1. I love this. It gives some semblance of scope, and a call to action. Philippe (WMF) 20:59, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  2. I like it too. Great feeling. I might shorten it to "1 Entry became 13 million. Donate today." Rebecca (WMF)
  3. I also like this. Perhaps a variant could be created, with the "protect" line looking forward toward apparently endless potential instead of looking toward how much has been done so far. --Yair rand 06:55, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  4. On my computer the three lines don't fit. Is that an issue for the banners? User:Ocaasi 09:18, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Noted from the test: it's difficult to explain that the number of entries is cross-project. Philippe (WMF) 21:50, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps "One entry in one language became 33 millions [entries] in 280 [languages]"? --Nemo 08:11, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  9. I hate the "Help protect what we’ve created". Beginning is very powerful while this is very blah & introduces "us" vs "you". How 'bout: "Your donation will keep it growing." Renata3 03:09, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
