Fix rev parent id for some specific revisions

  • Problem: While revisions with parent ID problems exist on any Wikimedia wiki, there is at least one page on Wikiquote that has two different problems, namely Amitabh Bachchan, that we should try fixing first before worrying about other cases. The first problem is with the edits that were deleted in April 2005, while the second one is with the interleaving edits from 2014 and 2015.
  • Who would benefit:
  • Proposed solution: Fix rev_parent_id for the following edits to the page Amitabh Bachchan on Wikiquote:
    • 20:28, 15 November 2004 by 61.1.16.159 (revision ID 1888685): rev_parent_id should be 0
    • 20:30, 15 November 2004 by 61.1.16.159 (revision ID 1888686): rev_parent_id should be 1888685
    • 22:04, 10 April 2005 by Rmhermen (revision ID 1888687): rev_parent_id should be 1888686
    • 03:48, 11 April 2005 by Jeffq (revision ID 1888688): rev_parent_id should be 1888687
    • 19:32, 19 March 2014 by Atcovi (revision ID 1698481): rev_parent_id should be 1583775
    • 01:29, 9 April 2014 by Dexbot (revision ID 1709683): rev_parent_id should be 1698482
    • 13:56, 24 July 2014 by Ningauble (revision ID 1763746): rev_parent_id should be 1709683
    • 11:12, 14 January 2015 by DanielTom (revision ID 1835944): rev_parent_id should be 1763746
  • More comments: Undeletion now preserves parent IDs as of MediaWiki 1.31.

References client in the toolbar

  • Problem: Inconvenient to look up citation templates for quotes
  • Who would benefit: Anyone who adds quotes
  • Proposed solution: Add a citation client in the toolbar like the one at Wikipedia

In fact, Citoid (the needed extension) is installed and just need to be configured. I think you just have to request an admin to edit wikiquote:MediaWiki:Citoid-template-type-map.json to map possible document types to appropriate templates. Each mapped template need its templateData to be set. I think most of the configuration for both template-type-map.json and TemplateData can just be copyed out from Wikipedia. You can find help on mw:Citoid. —Pols12 (talk) 00:23, 4 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"Add quote" button in the Visual Editor toolbar

  • Problem: Currently, the toolbar is designed for long-form prose, which makes sense for Wikipedia but not for Wikiquote, where the bulk of any page is a list of quotes.
  • Who would benefit: Editors, especially (but not only) new ones.
  • Proposed solution: Add a button to the toolbar to add a new quote to the page, similar to the current Cite button for references. It should be customizable, since each Wikiquote community has its own formatting standards (for example, ca.wikiquote has different templates for different kinds of quote).
  • More comments: A new feature to add templates within templates using the Visual Editor should be considered as part of this proposal as well. Right now, adding formatted references inside template-formatted quotes required wikitext knowledge, even using the Visual Editor.
