Huan-gîng!

Do you want to run a content campaign or contest in the Wikimedia community? This is the right place to start!

What is a campaign?

This portal focuses on activities in the Wikimedia ecosystem. We are operating under the following definitions.

  • Campaigns summon contributors and focus them on a topic or means of contribution for a window of time.
  • Contests or challenges are a type of campaign, typically more focused on established Wikimedians, primarily focused on quality content, and usually with a reward.
  • Content drive a type of local campaign focused on filling a gap or finishing a backlog, and usually only on one wiki.
Why are campaigns important?
Presentation at Wikimania 2019 discussing Campaigns and Contests

Content campaigns, contests and drives in the Wikimedia movement are some of the most important strategies for growing both off-wiki communities, bringing new content contributors to Wikimedia projects and incentivizing existing communities to participate more. These activities often facilitate diverse and new content, and strengthen the skills, capacities and commitment of existing editors and organizers.

Campaigns are wide ranging in topics and scope. Some of the most notable include: CEE Spring, Wikipedia Asian Month, Art and Feminism, Wiki Loves Monuments, 1lib1ref and others have a very consistent track record in supporting the growth of local Wikimedia communities.
