Meet the local teamEdit
The Manila Wikimania 2016 bid is currently being organized by a four-man core bid team composed of Wikipedians based in Metro Manila, bringing in experience organizing large events and executing projects forwarding Wikimedia's advocacy in the Philippines. All four members of the bid team are also affiliated in some way with Wikimedia Philippines, the Philippine local chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation, and are actively seeking the chapter's support for moving with the bid.
The members of the bid team are:
The bid team meets quite regularly; to see what we've been up to, see our Minutes of the Meetings.
Josh Lim is a recent graduate of the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City, having graduated with a BA in Political Science and a minor in Chinese Studies. He is a long time Wikipedian, having been an editor since April 2005, and served in various capacities in Wikimedia Philippines from its conception in 2006, to its founding in 2010 and up to the present day, where he is currently a regular trustee. He served as project lead for Wikipedia Takes Manila in 2011, and assisted in organizing the 2013 Philippine Wikimedia Conference. In addition, he has also conducted research activities on the social relations of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects, and has presented on the Filipino Wikimedia community and on Wikipedia culture at conferences both in the Philippines and abroad, including presenting at Wikimania 2010, 2011 and 2013.
Joel Aldor is a cultural heritage practitioner, writer, historian, IT professional and project manager, with 9 years combined experience in IT security, control and compliance, quality assurance, project management, configuration management, production support and customer service for SMEs and global enterprises. His current focus is on mobile payment gateways and services. He also led the project head of the Philippine Cultural Heritage Mapping Project, the biggest undertaking of Wikimedia Philippines in 2014.
He is also a government grantee under the National Commission for Culture and the Arts 2014 Competitive Grants Program, being awarded a grant to implement a comprehensive digital documentation project on the largest heritage painted artworks in the Philippines. For his monumental work in heritage conservation, he was awarded the first Dr. Reynaldo Lesaca Achievement Award in 2014 by Mensa Philippines.
Zach Hontiveros Pagkalinawan is a literary enthusiast, political idealist, animal lover, and creative thinker who graduated from Kalayaan College in early 2014 with a BA in Literature and is a founding member of it's literary organization, Kalayaan Literary Circle; having served as its first Secretary (by appointment), its second Vice President (by promotion), and its second President (by designation). He currently functions as a project coordinator for the Philippine Cultural Heritage Mapping Project and has been making edits to Wikipedia (with a particular interest in politics and Japanese musicians) since 2009.
Paolo Barazon is a software developer/engineer specializing in Python, and was formerly working in the customer service industry. He is among the incorporators and original trustees of Wikimedia Philippines. He was its first secretary and, with Josh, was one of WMPH's first delegates to the Wikimedia Chapters Conference in Berlin, in 2010. He made his first edit on the English Wikipedia in October 2005 and has contributed to the other Wikimedia projects. He was elected as Chairman for the years 2013-2014, and currently serves as WMPH's Vice President. He also attended the first Wikipedia Meet-up in Manila in May 2007.
Outside his professional work and outside WMPH, he is a church musician and keyboardist. He has served as writer and editor in his school and community newsletters, and was also involved in theatrical productions in his community as an musical scorer, stage manager and actor. He also served as a researcher for his hometown and parish's local histories, which culminated in the publication of the book "N.S.P. San Francisco de Asis" (2008, Parish of St. Francis of Assisi Commission on Church and Cultural Heritage, Meycauayan City, Bulacan) authored by Ronaldo N. Dionisio.

We intend to open the call for volunteers as soon as possible after securing the bid, so stay tuned!
In addition, we will also welcome volunteers to help us spread the word online, so let us know (either by email or on our respective talk pages) if you'd like to volunteer when signing above.
Letters of supportEdit
The core bid team has managed to obtain the support of the following organizations:
Letter of support from the Tourism Promotions Board
Letter of support from Python Philippines
Letter of support from Mensa Philippines
In addition to the letters above, the bid team has also managed to secure letters of support from the following organizations, although as the letters mention Wikimedia Philippines (which has yet to offer its support to the bid), these letters will not be uploaded until such time that chapter support has been secured. However, the team will graciously send copies of those letters upon request.
