Manila, home to at least 16 million people within its officially-defined metropolitan area, is not only the capital of the Philippines, but also a major center of commerce, culture, education and government in Southeast Asia. Long a crossroads between East and West, Manila is a melting pot of both Oriental and Western cultures, with Southeast Asian, Chinese, Spanish and American influences leaving their own distinct marks on the city and its people. Famous for its sunsets, Manila is known for its mix of old and new, the friendliness of its people and, most importantly, its hospitality. And we wish to extend that hospitality to all Wikimedians from all over the world by bringing Wikimania 2016 here to Manila.
We are prospectively looking at hosting Wikimania 2016 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), the country's foremost convention facility. Located at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) complex just outside of Manila in Pasay, it is accessible from all points of Metro Manila, including the city's historical, cultural and touristic centers, making it the ideal place to host Wikimania 2016.
We look forward to exploring our present, future and past at this Wikimania, and we would love for you to join us as we look back at where we were, look straight at where we are, and look forward at where we could be. As the first Wikimania in Southeast Asia, we also would like to look at how Wikimedia can be made more relevant in this part of the world. The conference plan takes all of that into account.
