Hello, JTZegers. Welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum if you need help with something (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). Also worthwhile acquainting yourself with the functions of global user pages. Happy editing!

@Billinghurst:Thank you. I understand you want me to stay on topic, but that's kinda hard if I'm blocked on Wikipedia.--JTZegers (talk) 00:06, 18 May 2021 (UTC) @Billinghurst:Ok, he said that I need six months before I can get back on Wikipedia, which is fair because he thinks I need more time off. —JTZegers (talk) 13:48, 18 May 2021 (UTC) @Billinghurst: Well, my blocking admin agreed with you. He appreciates my enthusiasm, but he thought that I showed no appreciation for what it takes mentally to be a Wikipedian, so he thought I needed six months too.JTZegers (talk) 13:54, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Go apologise, be humble, take a break edit

You may know me as the man who got blocked from editing on Wikipedia because of a controversy surrounding my past actions. The reason why I was blocked was because I screwed up an AFD discussion and a dispute resolution, and then I was reblocked for ACCIDENTALLY breaching an agreement to not go on other Wikipedia user talkpages. An admin told me that I wasn't cut out to be a Wikipedian, and that I needed several years, but here's the thing: He's wrong. I am, and no one will unblock me until six months have passed. It's just that things got too out of control. As stated earlier, I'm desperately trying to get unblocked, since that block was highly unfair and and shouldn't have been placed on restrictions, and was wondering if rehab would be a choice instead. This would be called the "JTZegers rule".

It would go like this: A template would show up on the user talk page saying "You have been sent to rehab due to disruptive editing. Until an administrator takes you through the rehab process, you have been blocked to avoid further harm." It would then send the user to a rehab request system. If it is denied, then it would say "You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for disruptive editing because no administrator has the ability to rehabilitate you." If it is, then the rehab process begins! If they break any rules during rehab, then they will also be blocked for "violating the Wikipedia policy during rehabilitation". Good idea?

Now that we are off main show.

  1. Go to the meta talk page of the enWP administrator who blocked you. Apologise for your (accidental) behaviour. Be humble. Tell them that you are taking a couple of weeks off to think about things, and would they mind if you come back in a couple of weeks to discuss what is required for them to modify that infinite block.
  2. Stop being inflammatory about your block. Yes, it is harsh, however, you screwed up. You did, no one helped, you did it all on your own. Own your mistakes. Learn from your mistakes. Don't dig the hole deeper. Stop digging.
  3. Don't repeatedly go off-topic on a page, that is not going to win you friends or allies, and when you are told it is off-topic and you do it again, that is not listening.
  4. Smart young kids are great, and they bring enthusiasm and energy. They don't bring wisdom, and they don't have all the skills. We typically don't know your age, and we may treat you as someone who should have wisdom and the other skills. Learn to breathe. Learn to take a break. The age old information will still be there tomorrow, the day after, next week, next month. Learn to be strategic. Learn when to walk away.
  5. It is only everyone's encyclopaedia, not yours, not mine; you will win some discussions, you will lose some discussions, you will draw discussions against the community consensus. That is all okay. Learn to live with the fact that the community consensus is where we go.

 — billinghurst sDrewth 00:20, 18 May 2021 (UTC) @Billinghurst:Thank you. I actually read that entire thing, that's a first for me.--JTZegers (talk) 00:44, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

It would have been wise to follow my advice. You bombed on the humility. Sometimes too smart is dumb—we are back to wisdom vs. intelligence again. Good luck in six months.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:01, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Billinghurst:Yea, the blocking admin appreciates my enthusiasm and your advice, he just thought being impatient was the other part of the problem. I'll try again in six months.--JTZegers (talk) 15:07, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

If you need an uncontroversial place, come to Wikisource edit

If you are still wishing to do editing in a less fast-paced, less controversial space, then you can come over to English Wikisource and help proofread old works. It isn't for everyone, but hey. There is always a wide range of work being done, and always a couple of projects on the go, so you may find something of interest.  — billinghurst sDrewth 14:10, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Billinghurst: Thanks. I'll check out WikiVoyage too.--JTZegers (talk) 15:20, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Billinghurst: Update: I found out that WikiVoyage is also anti-stickler. I'll just be there during my six-month block hiatus.--JTZegers (talk) 17:01, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
