Your admin status edit

Hello. I'm a steward. A new policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc.) was adopted by community consensus recently. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.

You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for 2 years) on yiwiktionary, where you are an administrator. Since yiwiktionary does not have its own administrators' rights review process, the global one applies.

If you want to keep your rights, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights, and demonstrate a continued requirement to maintain these rights.

We stewards will evaluate the responses. If there is no response at all after approximately one month, we will proceed to remove your administrative rights. In cases of doubt, we will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. If you have any questions, please contact us on m:Stewards' noticeboard.

File:Gekaufte Artikel Nein Danke.svg restored, needs to be reinstated a few tens of thousand times on de-WP edit

After File:Gekaufte Artikel Nein Danke.svg was prematurely deleted, delinker bot removed it from thousands of signatures an de-WP. Now that I restored the file - after Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Smiling Sun was closed as Kept, delinker bot needs to reinstate all those signatures. Can you do that? --h-stt !? 15:02, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

I don't think so, and when there was mistaken mass-deleting (and delinking), some users had to revert the delink globally. — revi 15:17, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Take a look at your en-wiki talk page edit

Please have a look at your en-wiki talk page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:CommonsDelinker). I turned it into a real talk page since your message doesn't provide clear direction as to what en-wiki users should do (especially with so many new users encountering this bot). You might notice the one month gap between me removing your talk page message and posting about it here, since that was the delay before I returned and figured out that this must be the talk page for the bot. Please ping me if replying. Oiyarbepsy (talk) 20:52, 20 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Proposal of deletion with replacement edit

Hi, I know this bot for many years and I think that his job is fantastic. But I think that there is a problem: when the bot remove the file from an article it don't restores the previous file that the article had. In wikis with a small number of contributors that is a problem because we are loosing lots of images! I wanted to propose that the place to delete a file include an optional parameter to add the name of a image to substitute the deleted file to another similar, when possible. Sorry if it's yet implemented, I don't know all the features of the bot. Bye, --Elisardojm (talk) 02:19, 1 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

We saw the same problem on Simple English Wikipedia with this change. The name of the file being replaced was also a partial file name for several other files. Perhaps the search string should include the colon that comes before the file name. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:47, 29 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

"Delinking" deleted files is undesireable, IMO edit

I don't see the point of removing the references to a deleted file. I think it would be better to simply leave the dead link in the article, thus making it obvious that some other image might be substituted. By "delinking" you're also removing the caption, which may contain valuable information for the reader, even if there's temporarily no image. EEng (talk) 16:49, 11 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

If anyone ever gets around to responding to this, please ping me at en:User talk:EEng. EEng (talk) 19:43, 13 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
It seems your opinion is a minority one; general consensus appears to be "remove ugly red links". FWIW, I am only operating the delinker bot, it has been running a long time before I rewrote it. --Magnus Manske (talk) 09:52, 15 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Delinker deleting/renaming parts of page names in Commons. edit

Many pages in Commons like c:Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Nutella sweet, São Paulo city, Brazil.jpg contains a "File:" part. So when a file is deleted/renamed, CommonsDelinker delete/rename that part too, thinking it is a reference of the affected file. It makes a lot of problems in Commons and difficult to find as these are archived old pages. This is the waste case where this edit transcludes the entire c:Commons:Featured picture candidates to a log page. I hope this bot can be re-programmed to avoid editing if "File:" is part of a "Commons:" namespace. Confidentiality agreement reminder.... again edit

I am an OTRS volunteer. On September of 2015 I signed the appropriate confidentiality agreement to retain my OTRS access. Today I was sent a message by this bot stating, "You are receiving this email because you have been identified as an OTRS volunteer and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy. If you do not sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015, you will lose your OTRS access." I was shocked— there is a NEW confidentiality agreement? What the hell? I already signed one of those! Is this now a yearly thing?? But no. My signature was on file. I was all set. The reminder (the URGENT reminder) to sign the agreement was completely unnecessary.

Couldn't this bot only send such reminders to volunteers who actually still need to sign the agreement? And anyway, how many of those are left since 2015 who have not signed it? (considering that their accounts would have been closed more than a year ago for NOT having signed it). Am I going to be sent this same reminder NEXT year as well, and wonder if my signature has been lost somehow or my account is in jeopardy when in fact nothing at all is wrong and the reminder is redundant? Is anyone going to read this message I am writing or am I writing it for a "bot" who has good intentions but no idea what I am saying? Am I calling into the wind? Who do I have to talk to in order to get this changed? I don't think the bot will offer up that kind of info. I don't know id anyone will... KDS4444 (talk) 00:20, 2 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Ryszard Jurkowski edit

Good afternoon CommonsDelinker, What kind of permission do you want us to send for the File:Zory2.jpg and the File:ECO Town Urban Design Project.jpg? I represent here on Wiki the architectural firm AiR Jurkowscy Architekci and I upload the images on their request. Mr. Piotr Sikora is employed by Air Jurkowscy Architekci and he isn't the only photographer that this company employs - most large architectural firms employ professionals to document their work. Ryszard Jurkowski, who is the senior partner in this firm, doesn't have to ask his employees for permission to use the photographs he and his company are in ownership of. Some photos we uploaded in the past had been deleted, even thought they were accompanied by the template message that they were awaiting the approval of the OTRS team. On 14th Dec 2018 another senior partner in this firm, Anna Jurkowska, sent an email with the subject 'Copyrights of work depicted and media' from the company address anna@air-jurkowscy.pl, and in return received the automated message with the ticket no.[Ticket#2018121410006939]. But because she didn't receive any reply from any member of the OTRS team, about 2 months later she sent another email - and, almost 6 months on and she is still awaiting the response. So what more do you need from us to prove that we are the sole owners of the copyrights for these photos? You worry that people might violate the copyrights, but has it ever crossed your mind that you might be in the wrong by depriving people of the right to use their own media on Wiki? --Pysiatko (talk) 12:58, 31 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi there Peter Flass. Unfortunately CommonsDelinker is not a human, so you'll have to contact the administrator that deleted the files (I'll point you to c:User talk:Jcb).
As for the reason behind the deletions, I'll give a quick guess as to why the files were deleted (though as a disclaimer, I am not an OTRS volunteer). You do appear to have gotten permission to upload the photos, however it appears that you hadn't emailed the OTRS team. Generally, photo permissions should go through them (they can be likened to designated volunteers) as their role is to verify whether permission is credible. Thus, I suggest you leave a note on the OTRS noticeboard or email the OTRS team to proceed any further. Should you have further questions about OTRS, there's a handy guide detailing the system. Best regards, and let me know if you have any questions. Hiàn (talk) 22:17, 30 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect removal of image in Assamese Wikipedia edit

@Magnus Manske: when CommonsDelinker removes image from Assamese Wikipedia or Wikisource, if the prefix is written in local language (such as চিত্ৰ: instead of File: or Image:), it fails to remove it correctly (see this revision). Could you please fix this? --SlowPhoton (talk) 05:48, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@SlowPhoton: It was (probably) me, but it was supposed to be fixed afterwards. In a nutshell: there is no maintainer for the bot as of now, so I am the one trying to fix the problems which caused the bot to be stuck for months. In due course I have fixed about a dozen small problems and one of those was the replacement matching. The problem you noted may be related to this, I'll look into the batch where it happened; the problem is that it was too long ago and the bot has no logic to prevent overwriting changes inbetween. I try to create some kind of fixing run if possible, and until then I manually revert it (but it's a broken image anyway). If there are more problems please ping me here, or elsewhere. (I wrote the updates there.) Thanks! -- grin 10:44, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@SlowPhoton: Now this is something truly fascinating (analogous with the word "trouble"). I suppose this needs some extensive cultural/literary/typographical background about Assamese writing system and its relations with the Unicode standard. What you write up there are not letters according to php (or, to be honest, it's not php to blame this time but libpcre, the matching library) and thus are not replaced as such. The problem seems to be with multiple characters: চি (due to the combining mark ি ) is not a letter according to php, and that breaks replacing; choosing a random text (বাবৰী মছজিদ) shows multiple "non-letters": ৰী and জি. Obviously I cannot fix php (or libpcre), so I have to figure out a way to avoid trusting Unicode character classification; I am not sure yet how, but I'll look into it. (Strictly there is no other proper solution: this has to be fixed…) Until then I blacklist Assamese Wikipedia in the bot. --grin 13:02, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Grin: That's interesting. I don't have any idea how PHP works. But in Assamese script we consider চি to be a glyph which consists of character চ and vowel diacritic ি . So the work চিত্ৰ consists of চ + ি + ত + ্ + ৰ . Many Indian scripts follow the same structure. In fact, Assamese and Bengali language both use the same Unicode block. So, I assume if it's an issue in Assamese Wiki, it will be an issue in Bengali Wikis as well. --SlowPhoton (talk) 14:46, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@SlowPhoton: It worked in my tests, let's watch what happens. If you see any more errors please ping back. --grin 19:37, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Grin: Thank you. I will keep an eye and will let you know. --SlowPhoton (talk) 03:42, 12 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Grin, Is something changed recently? After your fix, bot used to remove file correctly. But recently i'm seeing this problem coming back. E.g. bn:special:diff/5730672, bn:special:diff/5730139. আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 01:21, 28 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes, there were considerable changes. I will check your link. grin 16:51, 1 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
I have completely reorganised the matching logic, and have created (finally) a rough testing framework to catch problems. I hope this problem has been fixed and I also hope I haven't introduced new ones. Thank you for the notification! grin 22:06, 2 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

The_Last_Suit_poster.jpg edit

Hello, please your help explaining why the film poster The_Last_Suit_poster.jpg was deleted. All the other film posters published in Wikipedia have the same situation as this file, how come they are not deleted too ?. Thank you.Makers267 (talk) 20:22, 19 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

I assume you came here because a bot I run has removed the image inclusion link. The image was deleted on Wikimedia Commons. I had nothing to do with that deletion, my bot just cleans up the broken image inclusions. --Magnus Manske (talk) 08:46, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Template:Delta Plan edit

Hello

On en:wiki, this bot made a mistake regarding Template:Delta Plan

"Replacing Arch_dam_12x12_se.svg with File:Arch_dam_12x12_sw.svg (by CommonsDelinker because: Duplicate: Exact or scaled-down duplicate: c::File:Arch dam 12x12 sw.svg)" This is not true, there are several types of orientations ! --Io Herodotus (talk) 06:35, 19 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

de:Cieszyn: persisting file name mutilation edit

Hallo, while replacing, an error occurred here with a mutilation of the file name. It's similar structured as the given examples from May 2021 in the de:wp-bot-discussion there and there. Thanks for fixing it. --Wi-luc-ky (talk) 15:43, 31 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Replacement with invalid syntax edit

In Passenger vehicles in the United States you have replaced an image by an invalid syntax [[019 Toyota Camry LE.jpg|thumb. Please check the actions of your bot! --GünniX (talk) 15:33, 10 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Cosmetic changes to Talk:Astronomical symbols and other talk pages edit

Please do not make cosmetic changes to talk pages as you did to w:Talk:Astronomical symbols. w:Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines#Editing others' comments gives reasons reasons it may be allowed to edit another person's talk page comment if you have their permission. Your change does not fit any of these reasons, and even if it did, I very much doubt you have the user's permission. Jc3s5h (talk) 09:43, 1 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Looking closer, I see that it was a matter of the file being renamed. Jc3s5h (talk) 11:01, 1 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Michael Caruso musician photo edit

I disagree with the removal of this profile photo. It has been there for many years and was within your guidelines uploaded by its photographer Luanie Kologi. Paulhus15 (talk) 15:06, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

This is a robot, it does not delete images, only removes already deleted images. Please go to the original page of the image, read the removal summary, read the deletion page is there's any and act accordingly. I cannot help you in deletions. grin 22:08, 2 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Michael Caruso musician profile photo edit

you are wrong! fyi, Mr Caruso is personal friends with the photographer who took the picture (Luanie Kologi - Fragments login owner) and I approached her to get a login and upload for him. It was picked at another time to go on his single of "Shoo Rah". Nothing to do with the photo itself. This is HER OWN WORK....no license info needed. Before you just remove something the facts should be checked out. this should have NEVER been deleted. Please fix this Paulhus15 (talk) 17:06, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

The robot cannot help you, it doesn't delete images. grin 22:09, 2 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
