Request for feedback on the Translation Notifications extension

Hello,

I’m Abijeet Patro. I’m a software developer in the Language team at the Foundation. I work on the Translation Notifications extension. I’m reaching out to you because you’ve previously used the extension, and we’re looking to gather feedback on how the extension can be made more reliable.

You can leave your feedback on a thread that we’ve started on the Babylon talk page.

Thanks for your time.

Regards,
Abijeet Patro (he/him)

Thank you

Thank you for this help. (Please note that as I pointed out in my request, I only asked for help for the offensive expressions used in Meta, not in other projects.) Best regards. Pompilos (talk) 13:42, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

Update suggestion to your previous title blacklisting actions (special:diff/25539880)

Thank you for your previous title blacklisting actions, but since I recently found this, it may need to add more variations. Thank you very much for your attention. MathXplore (talk) 01:49, 6 February 2024 (UTC)

COIBot

Hi! COIBot has been down on-wiki for a few months...do you know what to do to fix it? Or if there's something equivalent we can use. Vermont (🐿️🏳️‍🌈) 14:10, 13 February 2024 (UTC)

Also ping Beetstra re: what's needed to get the bot working again. Vermont (🐿️🏳️‍🌈) 14:30, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
@Vermont I recommend using https://spamcheck.toolforge.org/ (example: [1][2]) while the bot is down. Johannnes89 (talk) 14:34, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
Ooh, thanks! Vermont (🐿️🏳️‍🌈) 15:22, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
@Vermont: I have already pinged Beetstra, and others on the user talk page, and included others with access. If you can find the others through IRC then that may help. I don't have the ability to access the server at this time--my SSH is all screwed--no IRC access either and my available time is pitiful.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:19, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

Template:LL

  Moved to Template talk:Localized link

The following discussion is closed.

Good day, any idea on what to do to not link pages using {{LL}} to pages such this? --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 07:57, 8 March 2024 (UTC)

@Minorax: But it is just the use of LL? User groups (listed in the WLH) links to [[Special:MyLanguage/Stewards|stewards]], and I am guessing that is related to mw:Display title / mw:Extension:display title. Cannot say that I am renowned in that space, though wonder whether there is something possible at Help:Magic_words#DISPLAYTITLE  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:37, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
Eh, there is a <tvar name="1">{{ll|Stewards}}</tvar> in User groups so I suppose it's causing the page to link there. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 11:08, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
@Kaganer: Originally one of yours. Are you able to address this issue as it is an area where you have played way more than I. Are we missingthe use of the magic word? Thanks if you can. — billinghurst sDrewth 11:46, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
Hm. Current code was added by @ExE Boss in 2021.
I need to think. Maybe this approach may be fully revolutionary changed today. I haven't watched this side for a long time. I'm also ping @Amire80 there.
At first glance, the problem may be in the module:Template translation (called from {{TNTN}}).
But magic word in this case also obviously suggests itself. Kaganer (talk) 17:35, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
The old version would also do that, the newer version copied from MediaWiki just has a fallback for when the title is not translated in the current page language. — ExE Boss (talk) 21:00, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
@Minorax: Your answers. Can we now please take this to the relevant template talk page. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:48, 10 March 2024 (UTC)

bitcointalk.org

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Spam_blacklist/Archives/2024-03#bitcointalk.org

"it was being added by spambots."

That doesn't justify a site-wide block of the entire domain. Deal with it in a less harmful way.
When it is all wikis, not just wikipedias, and the wikis have the ability to whitelist what they wish, then, that is the least harmful way. Please tell me the less harmful way that we have available, rather than generally wave your hands around without providing realistic solutions.

"Use of local whitelists is typically the way around the use of SBL."

That shouldn't be necessary. Sites that have legitimate uses should not be on the SBL at all.
Please stop thinking of this solely in the single experience of English Wikipedia. There are some 800++ wikis, across all the sisters. We are not talking a high use site. and the unfortunate situation is when we blacklisted it, that was close to the only available tool effectively available.

"Re the error message, that is not one controlled here, that is the code in the software for globally blocked urls. If you have thoughts about how that can be improved then Phabricator is your friend there."

Where does the message text come from? It should at the very least link to an explanation and link to where the site is being blocked.
The global blacklist message comes from the Wikimedia message set, and its operations through mw:Extension:SpamBlacklist. Might be able to find it via your AllMessages. especially if you use the API results. It is a long time since I have seen it, it isn't an error message that I personally see.

"If you are asking the circumstance from 8 years ago, you please excuse me not remembering."

I don't know what you mean? — Omegatron (talk) 18:17, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
@Omegatron: Please don't expect me to remember detail specifics from a single case from that long ago.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:51, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

The text you wanted to publish was blocked by the spam filter. This is probably caused by a link to a forbidden external site. The following text is what triggered our spam filter:

Mediawiki:spamprotectiontext and Mediawiki:spamprotectionmatch
                "name": "spamprotectiontext",
                "normalizedname": "spamprotectiontext",
                "*": "The text you wanted to publish was blocked by the spam filter.\nThis is probably caused by a link to a forbidden external site."
            },

                "name": "spamprotectionmatch",
                "normalizedname": "spamprotectionmatch",
                "*": "The following text is what triggered our spam filter: $1"
            },
It doesn't seem to specifically differentiate between whether it hits a local or global SBL, it just says block. The translations will be at translatewiki, and the default English text will be in gerrit.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:55, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

If it was 8 years ago, why is it still on the blacklist? — Omegatron (talk) 10:23, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
Now you are just being argumentative. A user talk page is not the place to argue whether something should or should not be on a local or a global blacklist. I have offered you a solution to resolve your local wiki issue.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:10, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
