"improving low-contrast reading"
editHiya! I'm a contributor translating into Norwegian Bokmål, and I'm curious about a term used in this News edition: "improving low-contrast reading". While I'm familiar with the individual words, I'm uncertain what this phrase means, exactly. I tried searching for "low-contrast reading" online—to very few results. Could someone clarify it for me? - Hi @EdoAug! I believe that just means situations where the screen that someone is using doesn't have good contrast. (Either because it's misconfigured, or just old, or the situation it is used in). For example, I have one ancient monitor that provides barely half of the contrast/brightness of my main monitor, so when I use it I can barely see some pale yellows versus white. (e.g. in the old Diff colors, the yellow background was really hard to see). This is similar to the problems that occur when someone is trying to read in direct-sunlight (e.g. second-from-last example here). I hope that helps! [And I'll ask someone from the related team to confirm, in case I'm missing an aspect!] Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 22:43, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Quiddity (WMF): Thanks for your response! So it's essentially just increasing the contrast between certain elements? EdoAug (talk) 22:54, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- I believe that would be accurate way to translate it, yes. [I've asked someone to check my explanation, but it's late on a Friday even here on the west coast of Canada, so they may not reply until next week!] Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 23:35, 28 June 2024 (UTC)

- I think Quiddity (WMF) means to actually create the survey (and fix the link) tomorrow, just before publication, giving time for translators to translate it by then. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 16:10, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
- Exactly :) I can replace the links without invalidating the translations, and that gives a bit more time for translators. Hypothetically the deadline for the survey's text was end of Friday, but I'm working on it today so I will get anything new. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 18:52, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
- Quiddity (WMF), any chance to get uk translation of the survey into its live version? I'm late with it, so I expect not, but asking anyway 😇 Ата (talk) 16:40, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
