2019 Community Conversations

How can we best evolve as a movement? What opportunities can we make the most of - or even create ourselves? What changes do YOU want to see in our movement structure?

The nine Working Groups have prepared scoping documents that contain core questions on topics related to the structures of our movement. Between now and the end of June, each member of Wikimedia community has the chance to answer these questions, and to share their opinion around the scoping documents.

The answers will frame issues, challenges, and opportunities that the Working Groups will examine going forward. They will help to gain a deeper understanding of our movement, identify exciting possibilities, and develop recommendations for change. This will strengthen our focus before we deep dive into the most crucial structural reform issues. Draft recommendations will be delivered at Wikimania 2019.

	Host a Strategy Salon Strategy Salons are an opportunity for recognized Wikimedia affiliates to host in-person gatherings to discuss movement strategy. The goal of these events is to allow affiliate leaders to bring together a broad mix of affiliate members who live within their local area to have deeper conversations about one or two strategy themes that are of interest to them. Our hope is that these events not only allow for meaningful and creative discussions about our future, but to also offer affiliates opportunities to strengthen relationships and deepen engagement with their members. We have strong interest and a high number of approved applicants - 44 total grants, 12 of which are for youth-specific events. Read more from Strategy Salons.
